why show the end of the movie in the preview ?

posted on 30 Aug 2009

Why would you show the end of the movie in the preview-- and though Im sure this movie has a predictable ending-- you spoiled it and now I wont want to go see it knowing that in the end she marries the guy and has all the brides maids wearing all 27 dresses--Why would you want to prevent people from wanting to see this movie ?Though Im generally a big fan of romantic comedy I hate movies that give away the ending in the preview. Is it because there wasn't enough usable material to use? If that is the case perhaps the higher ups could use higher standards in making movies. Or if that is not the case-- perhaps finding people who make these previews who have half a brain and not give away the ending ????

Slow but who wouldn't be willing to watch Heigl paint a wall.

This will not go down as one of the best romantic comedies of all time, but I think it could be a major jumping off point for Katherine Heigl and possibly Marsden. It's worth a view if you have a free night or it can easily be waited for on DVD, PPV or cable. Good date movie. Heigl has the unique ability to be both glamorous and the girl next door at the same time. She could easily be America cinemas next sweetheart in the mold of Ryan and Bullock. Whoever cast Tess didn't do a very good job of finding somebody who could pull off being "hotter" than Heigl. But then again... that's a tall order. Thanks to the writers for letting the sarcastic, cynical guy get the girl. There is hope for us after all.

Plot: Katherine Heigl (Jane) plays the people-pleaser girl who knows how to balance it all. She's got a job she loves (well she's in love with her boss anyway), a great NYC apartment, a great figure, and plenty of friends; as is evidenced by the multitude of wedding's she attends as a bridesmaid. She just can't seem to say no to those in need. And so that's how she finds herself planning a wedding for her baby sister and someone that I won't reveal here. And so on and so on and so on..................For the romantic comedy genre, this movie does exceptionally well. I've read some harsh reviews here and it leaves me wondering just what exactly those people are hoping to get out of a movie like this. This is supposed to be lighthearted, it's supposed to appeal to women (mainly), it's supposed to be dripping mush. And it does all of this. That said, I thought there were certain moments within the film that surpassed my expectations for a rom-com. The roles were played with a wit and sophistication that I don't see everyday within this genre, and so I'm left now feeling pleasantly surprised. Some of the emotions and reactions of the characters were rather unexpected and refreshing; as was a little scene at the ending. Very good "chick flick" IMO.

I LOVED this movie!!!

This movie was wonderful! It was funny, and I mean "laugh out loud" funny. And seriously, the bar scene involving the Elton John classic "Benny & the Jets" is going to go down in cinematic history. I truly feel that that this is one of those scenes that will forever pop up on a "funniest moment" poll forever. Without giving too much away, lets just say they don't get many of the lyrics right! My only 2 complaints with anything are that there were some predictable scenes that could have been made more creative and some of the filming was "jumpy" and you got that motion sickness feeling trying to follow it...Oh, and watch for the engagement party with the "Goth" theme...very funny stuff there.

Perfect Fit- Funny and Witty.

This movie was terrific. Yes, it was the typical chick flick, yet I found the script just completely entrancing. The script did set this movie apart from the others. It was witty and funny. The acting was extremely well done. Katherine Heigl is so amazing. I couldn't imagine anyone better for the role of Jane. But my favorite person was James Marsden. I absolutely fell in love him. He was so clever and his smile was to die for. I did actually fear seeing this movie, thinking that it would be completely different from all the great reviews and that it would entirely ruin my night. On the contrary, it made my night all the better. I haven't seen a movie like this in awhile. I would certainly suggest seeing it ASAP.

A pleasant surprise!

I wasn't expecting much from this movie. I went to see it with a bunch of girlfriends not really thinking it would be anymore then your usual rom-com but I was very pleasantly surprised! Right from the start I could tell it would be something more than I had thought because the opening scenes had me laughing so hard -and thats saying something, because it takes a lot to make me laugh. The script was clever and witty and although sometimes certain aspects were predictable, you were always very engaged in the story and the characters. The acting was solid the entire film, I was already a huge fan of Katherine Heigl but after watching this and 'Enchanted' I am now also in love with James Marsden! The atmosphere in the cinema when i saw this movie was great, you could tell everyone was enjoying themselves. I enjoyed myself so much in fact, that I am going to watch the movie again tomorrow with my sister!

Mainstream romantic comedy

Although this movie is a bit typical, it's still a breezy, light hearted romp, which is all it appears to be trying to do. It's got formulaic construction familiar in romantic comedies, yet it knows it's just harmless fluff and doesn't try to be anything more.Kathryn Heigl is certainly the strength of the film, with an exuberant approach to her "hopeless romantic" always the bridesmaid character who longs for that special day of her own. The performance is playful and silly when needed, and sweetly honest in the more serious moments. The rest of the cast are all good, too; the personality collisions of various characters are usually well done. The sight gags involving the dresses are clever, and the story runs its course effectively. There are weaknesses, such as the ugly, mean spirited, and out-of-place slide show sequence. The script could have accomplished the point which is made there in some better way.Light popcorn fun. Like fast food, it probably won't stick with you for long, but it's good for some entertaining silliness. One thing I'm still wondering: how much would scuba-gear set back the wedding party members?

This film was the grandest of romantic comedies. Usually romantic comedies are not my thing because they don't have a good balance. There is either not enough comedy or not enough romance. I prefer a choice of classification and not a mix of the two, but I was pleasantly surprised with this film. It had me laughing, getting angry along with Jane, and even crying. It is cheesy and fun. It gives good insight and a great message. Katherine Heigl was adorable and James Marsden was hilarious and in Heigl's words: "Sexy". There was great casting with the other minor characters as well. The selfish, but sweet underneath sister was played by "Heartbreak Kid" kooky-girl, Malin Akerman, and the man that was pined after was played by the classic, but slightly boring, Edward Burns. He gives something to the film though. In the end, it wraps up to be a good time for all.

Katherine Heigl keeps the movie on it's toes.

I really thought this was gonna be silly and predicable, but on some levels it was predicable, but it manages to keep itself from being just a wasted romantic comedy. The rest of the cast is awesome, but it's Katherine Heigl that holds it together, with a funny and heartwarming performance as Jane, A woman who spends most of the time doing things for others, but seldomly does anything for herself. And you knowing the title 27 Dresses, she has been a bridesmaid 27 times. And Jane is secretly in love with her boss George(Edward Burns), but her insecurity has kept her from telling him. But when she gets the guts to tell him. her sister(Malin Akerman, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle(2004), The Heartbreak kid(2007) suddenly steals him away, and a week later they get engaged. To add more craziness to her life, she starts getting hounded by Kevin(James Marsden) a newspaper reporter. This movie was enjoyable to say the least.

Clunker Alert!!! Don't See It.

I can't remember seeing a more predictable crapfest in recent years. From beginning to end this one is a stinker. I'm glad I have NetFlix and didn't pay $10 to go see this one. It's not even good enough to quote from. The acting though is good. The dialog is bumpy and dumb and the "you know what's going to happen next" bent of the whole movie is offputting. I was hoping while watching this with my wife, that it wasn't just me who was hating it. Thank goodness it wasn't just my jaded ol' self--she hated it too. No awards here folks. It's crap. I wouldn't recommend it to someone I didn't like. The gal that wrote this script needs to have her advance and royalties, if any, taken back. And she needs a good bitchslapping to boot. Two thumbs down--it's all I have.

Show yourself

Show yourselfI downloaded this film because i was very curious about the title: 27 Dresses. What would happen with those 27 beautiful dresses? After seeing this film, i felt satisfied because of its amusing plot as well as its beautiful scenes. I must admit that it is really a feast for my eyes and ears. But when i sat down and thought over the theme of this film, i thought what really attracted me was not so much that it made me laugh by heart, as that it encouraged me to refuse others' requests and to show myself bravely. It goes without saying that it's really impolite to refuse your good friends' requests as well as your family's. But what if it is completely beyond your ability. Then your answer must be "no". In my opinion, we can not regard that as selfish. Remember: we are not inferior to others.

a little disappointing product from the creators of DEVIL WEARS PRADA... but still TIMEPASS..

cute, funny, altogether a feel-good movie

This movie was great! I saw it twice. Although many male critics have said the movie was too cliché and predictable, I didn't find it so. My favourite parts where: obviously when Marsden and Heigl sing Bennie and the Jets, drunken and on the table in the bar, barefoot and dancing, and when her new "datebook" rings with "Bennie and the Jets" as the ringtone. Heigl plays Jane, the perfect bridesmaid, who has never, ever said no to anyone. In love with weddings since she was 8, she cuts out all the wedding stories written by Malcomb Doyle (Marsden), her favourite writer. When her kid sister Tess falls in love with Jane's boss, with whom she is secretly in love, and she ends up planning the wedding, the mysterious writer Kevin shows up and tries desperately (in an awesome, cynical way) to secure a page in her life. I thought it was an altogether feel-good movie that was a bit predictable but wonderful all the same. Marsden created a role that wasn't Prince Charming or show host, but the aggravating, cynical, perceptive writer who showed Jane how her life could have been and how she shouldn't have settled for what she got in life. They were a perfect match for each other.A great movie that will join my DVDs when it comes out.Fav. lines: "I feel like I just found out that my favourite love song was written about a sandwich!" -Heigl "I'll pencil you in. Oh, but look! You already did EVERY Saturday FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!" -Heigl fav. line of all: "I cried like a baby at the Keller wedding." -Marsden

Why not get merry with this one?

Here are 27 reasons why you should leave the formulaic romantic-comedy flick "27 Dresses" at the altar. I know deep down inside my heart that is how I should design my film review of "27 Dresses", but I must state that I did enjoy this sappy tale even though it was not a cerebral challenge and it did include some of the same cinematic trademarks of the romantic comedy genre. Maybe my brain dressed down for the occasion or it was some guilty pleasure fetish that I wanted to unveil, but either the case I am still recommending film lovers to put on those "27 Dresses" on your DVD player. The film stars Katherine Heigl as Jane Nichols, a single New York single yuppette who is probably the female counterpart of Hugh Grant's character Charles in the romantic-comedy classic "Four Weddings and a Funeral". To dress it up in simple cliché terms, "always the groomsman, never the groom" or in Jane's case "always the bridesmaid, never the bride". Anyway, let us depart from a character study comparison of two main protagonists from two genre-related films and strictly focus on unzipping those "27 Dresses". Our female protagonist Jane is profoundly infatuated with her generous boss George played by Edward Burns; The problem for Jane is that Boy George does not really want to hurt Jane and thinks of her strictly as a devoted employee. Georgie Boy does want to keep it in the family though by falling for Jane's self-centered sister Tess played by Malin Akerman; who plays a very similar egoistic role as the one she played in "The Heartbreak Kid". Can we say Akerman is aching to get out of this typecast archetype? I almost forgot to link all these characters to Kevin; no not Bacon. It is Kevin Doyle the primary male character of "27 Dresses" who is a newspaper lifestyle journalist who is highly intrigued by Jane's "illustrious" (for lack of a better word) bridesmaid history. The supporting roles acting lifer James Marsden finally get a shot at being the main guy of a movie by playing our main guy Kevin. One does not have to read a Nostradamus handbook to predict that an incoming kooky romance is on the horizon between Jane and Kevin. Director Anne Fletcher keeps the tone of the film quite entertaining even though there is nothing revelatory about those "27 Dresses". Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna does literary lighten the film up with some comical dialogue between our main protagonists. Heigl continues her impressive "I want to be the next Julia Roberts" run with another nice showing here as she did in her previous film "Knocked Up". Burns and Akerman were a bit stale in their roles; and Marsden though commendable here does still lack that certain main guy pizazz that the Crowes, Vaughns, Pitts, Damons, and Clooneys of the world inhabit. "27 Dresses" will not get you into a marry-go-round of absolute cinematic delight but it will fit in quite nicely as a crowd pleaser in the romantic-comedy genre. I hope I dressed you up well on my viewpoints of "27 Dresses". **** Good

not as good as other date movies

posted on 23 Jun 2009

I like movies that fall into this film genre. And I think 27 Dresses is not as good as a lot of them. The chemistry between Heigl and Marsden is not that great. Kate Hudson and Reese Witherspoon pull these date movies off a lot better. The dullness of the movie starts off with the topic of the movie weddings. That's been done quite a few times. Here, Heigl plays, Jane, a serial bridesmaid, but never the bride. She has the hots for her boss, but he's interested in her sister whom just moved back home. Jane meets Kevin at a wedding, and he tries contacting her. Kevin turns out to be a columnist for the paper, and his writing topic happens to be weddings. And he is using Jane to write a story. Once the story breaks, of course, she says he was lying to her, but in the end they get back together. No real suspense. And she really humiliates her sister at a party in front of everyone and we are supposed to root for her.FINAL VERDICT: Another romantic comedy about weddings just doesn't cut it when the topic has been done numerous times. The movie just isn't very unoriginal. I suggest skip it.

It certainly doesn't take 27 times to like this movie!

I've got to be honest that I came into the movie thinking that it was going to be yet another completely cheesy film; however I was pleasantly surprised that beneath the predictable ending there was a wonderful, very human story underneath it all. I liked Katherine Heigl's character and yes I can sympathize her, being that I am a girl who will do anything for her friends and family and the word, No is basically never used in my vocabulary ( depends on the situation though ). I liked James Marsden..his character was sweet, understanding, with a macho edge, haha! The bar scene was hilarious and loved the awkward scenes with the brides having to go to the bathroom with their wedding dresses and Katherine's character holding it for them. I especially loved the ending, loved how she mentioned earlier on in the movie that they'd all pay her back someday and on her wedding day she made all the brides wear all the bridesmaid dresses they made her wear! Hilarious!!!!! Very enteraining, sweet, and not boring at all. The story might be slow in the beginning but it's picks up pretty fast! Enjoyed it tremendously!

awesome--> i watched it twice in four days

every time u see a romantic comedy, u always think the same thing 'this is gonna be the same as every other romantic comedy; 2 people like each other but then get close, get into a fight n makeup' but this is different some stuff was predictable but it was for-shadowy predictable which made it 10 times better than most movies i love the acting too they were all so into character it was also hilarious i saw it twice in four days it just came out 4 days ago personally, i LOVE this movies and the actors i highly recommend this movie to everyone Katherine Heigle does a great job with the emotion like she was actually Jane. James Marsden does a fantastic job and this was his first lead role. he went from Cyclops to 'corny Collins' to a prince, to a writer who doesn't really care. he can switch off the roles perfectly and it is flawless its as if his acting is effortless as in it just comes to him. also, personally, i love Judy Greer ever since the wedding planner because the characters she plays are so funny and they say what they want to say. she plays these kinds of characters perfectly and flawlessly as well. this movie is also sweet and to the point. there are no pointless scenes that are meaningless and random. this movie is in your priority category

cut from the same cloth but a cut above many chick flicks

The amusing patterns used in My Best Friends Wedding, Wedding Crashers, Runaway Bride and many more somehow fit together in 27 Dresses to make an ensemble even more stylish and attractive than its parts. There's basically nothing we haven't seen before and the plot doesn't twist as much as it gently forms into a perfect, pleasing bow. What more can you ask of a movie like this? It was very entertaining, and delivered exactly what it advertised and more to an appreciative audience.Katherine Heigl is charming and lovable... her greatest feat: making us firmly believe she could be a single and somewhat insecure 'everygal.' Judy Grier is the perfect snarky foil and Malin Akerman is zestfully - if cluelessly - mean. I was smiling and rocking out to "Benny and the Jets" (this movie's obligatory "song," inserted at just the right spot) for days. The guys were guys.Interspersed with the occasional thriller or thought-provoking film, I'd be quite happy to watch 26 more movies cut along the same lines in years to come.

Robe in "27 Dresses"

posted on 12 May 2009

I was wondering if any one could tell me where i could find the grey robe that Katherine Heigel wore in "27 Dresses". I have looked everywhere it seems and had no luck. It looks like a knit robe but i am not sure. If anyone could help me i would greatly appreciate it. It is a present for someone and she hasn't stopped talking about it since she saw it in the movie. If you know of a site or someone who might know please inform me i am desperate to find this robe. Thank you! The movie was a good movie. I didn't realize that there were that many ugly bridesmaid dresses out there. I hopefully wont pick out something like that when i get married.

Funny, feel good movie.

This movies reviews weren't all good, actually a lot of them were not good at all, but I really enjoyed this movie, it's funny, even hilarious at some points, sweet, totally recognisable and an out-and-out feel good movie. The story isn't really anything new, but Katherine Heigl is so convincing as Jane, the original yes-girl, a people pleaser of the highest degree that she totally carries the movie. The interactions between Jane and her best friend and between Jane and Kevin, her love interest - who both don't understand why she does what she does - are hilarious. And even though you know what is going to happen all through the movie, it doesn't matter, because the things that happen in between are delivered in such a funny or heartwarming way that you end up walking out of the movie theater at the end with an upbeat feeling and a smile on you face. This movie won't win any awards and it isn't the best movie ever, but it's good entertainment nonetheless that leaves you feeling happy and for that alone it is well worth the price of the ticket.
