Cody Banks (Frankie Muniz) is a shy common teenager, living with his mother, father and little brother in a suburban house. But he is also a very efficient undercover CIA agent. He is assigned by CIA director (Keith David), with the support of his instructor Ronica Miles (Angie Harmon), to date Natalie Connors (Hilary Duff) in order to be invited to her birthday party and get close and spy Natalie's father, Dr. Connors (Martin Donovan). Dr. Connors is a brilliant scientist, who has developed some sort of micro-robots with the intention of controlling oil leakage from tankers. However, the investors of the experiment intend to use the device as a powerful weapon.

Great!
posted on 08 Aug 2009I was pleasantly surprised. I expected something like "Spy Kids" but it wasn't. I found it very entertaining, and I really appreciate the fact that they made a pretty serious movie. I also like the concept of a teen CIA agent. Good action. Frankie Muniz was perfect for the part. Thank you.
He's not James Bond, but at least he's not "James Bond Jr."
posted on 27 Jul 2009Attention: Contains the odd spoiler. End transmission.Considering that one of the eight (!) executive producers for "Agent Cody Banks" is none other than Madonna, this could have been a lot worse - but considering the talent involved, this could also have been a lot better. The trailer for "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" played before this, and that felt less like a TV movie than this one does, and not only because of the presence of Frankie "Malcolm in the Middle" Muniz, Hilary "Lizzie" Duff, Ian "Lovejoy" McShane, Angie "Baywatch Nights"... oh all right, "Law & Order" Harmon, and executive producer Jason "George Costanza" Alexander - the movie itself has a television-ish premise (teenage boy recruited into the CIA for a secret mission - step forward "Scarecrow and Mrs. King," "Bruno the Kid," "Alias" etc). Unfortunately the overriding influence apparently comes from Cynthia Stevenson (not a favourite of mine after the incredibly unfunny "Oh Baby"), judging from how the movie isn't too successful at being funny.Plus it can't really make up its mind whether it wants to be serious or comic, leading to some distressing shifts throughout, surprising considering Harald Zwart managed it so much better with "One Night at McCool's" - our adolescent hero's handler Angie dresses to please the guys throughout (she's introduced with Nelly's "Hot in Herre" twice) and hands down a round of towel-snapping to teen boys in a locker room at one point. It's also worth noting that the idea of intelligence agencies basically training spies in their youth has some creepy implications not really explored or even acknowledged here, as opposed to "Alias" and the ending of the invisible girl episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." You wonder what audience the movie's aimed at... teenage boys, probably, with its emphasis on action and the awkwardness of young guys around females (actually one of the movie's stronger points) and its deemphasis on romance (her female-skewing show notwithstanding, not all of the Hilary's fans are female, if you see what I mean - as our hero's father and brother put it, "That was a girl!" "A hot girl!").SPOILER TIME... SPOILER TIME...The movie also has some scenes which really are a bit too violent for what's supposedly a kids' movie - villains meet horrible deaths in animated movies all the time, but seeing Hilary Duff stuff a nanobot-filled ice cube into the mouth of the villain (McShane) and doom him to being eaten alive from the inside is, let's face it, pretty sadistic (this is, in fact, the most cold-blooded act that we see in the entire movie); and it adds to the movie's fairly unpleasant undertones.END OF SPOILER... END OF SPOILER...Add to this some of the absolute worst special effects in a big Hollywood movie I've had the misfortune to see (the work of visual effects supervisor Raymond McIntyre Jr and the team at Pixel Magic make "Daredevil" seem like "Terminator 2: Judgment Day"), and you have... a movie that's still a fairly diverting time-passer, thanks to its leads and a pretty good pace, plus some actually amusing moments and none of the self-satisfaction that made "XXX" and "Austin Powers in Goldmember" so unbearable. The script could have been better (note the five credited writers), and it still feels an awful lot like a pilot for a series or a TV movie, but if the alternative is Richard Greico in "If Looks Could Kill," I'll take this one. Bonus points for not overdoing the cash-in songs in lieu of John Powell's music."Agent Cody Banks" is watchable but forgettable; ultimately any episode of "Kim Possible" kicks this movie's butt. Though to be fair, it's still better than that misguided cartoon "James Bond Jr."...
Not the greatest secret agent movie, but it has potential...
posted on 13 Jul 2009Well this wasn't the greatest secret agent movie ever told, but the potential for it to be above average is definately there. I went into this movie expecting it to suck right up there with one of those crazy lampoon type spoofs of a movie, not to mention something that was just for kids. I was totally wrong. Me being a 27 year old adult found it to be quite humorous and quite exciting in most parts. Frankie Muniz, in my opinion was cast perfectly for the role. Of course I tend to be a bit bias when it comes to good ol' Frankie( I love him in Malcolm). He definately shines in all of his performances and will blossom into one of the great actors of the upcoming generation. As far as this movie goes, its all about having fun, and that's exactly what Frankie accomplished with this pic... hail Cody(...Frankie)
CouLd Be BeTTeR but It´s StiLL FuN
posted on 21 Mar 2009Agent Cody Banks has an interesting premise even if at first I was a little cautious about it. But we must look at it from the right point of view, meaning like a kid would. Who never wished to be to be a secret agent, fighting the bad guys, saving the world and getting the girl? Even today I think about it Using all the elements in the James Bond franchise, such as the cool cars, the crazy gadgets we all love and the villain with a horrible scar ACB puts on the screen the dreams of kids all over. Frankie Muniz is perfect for the role. He represents the normal, everyday kid. He represents all of us. Angie Harmon is also great as his tough, icy partner. The amazingly beautiful Hilary Duff however suffers from a huge lack of screen time. Her acting could also be better and we can clearly notice the girl has a huge ego. With her looks she can go far no doubt about it. But she has to be a little humble and be ready to learn. I'm not sure that is the case. With full knowledge of the power of her physical side she appears not the least interested and I would say even bored throughout the movie. Keith David, one of my favorite actors, has his usual over the top hilarious act. Arnold Vosloo is unfortunately wasted but he does what he can and well he was great. Just what was it with his clothes? Oh well The story is simple and without a touch of reality to it, just like it was supposed to be. The humor however could be more efficient. Some jokes, maybe too many, fall flat. The action could also have been improved. It's not even close to spectacular. The opening scene is very attractive but then all we get is some explosions and one or two karate fights. There's also some violence, but nothing too extreme. ACB has some flaws. Its slow to build, some scenes fail miserably and sometimes its just too stupid. But since im not in its target audience not anymore, I would recommend it because I still enjoyed it very much. It has a light, childish atmosphere that works very well and provides an innocent fun. He´s Banks Cody Banks.
Cute, and good family fun!
posted on 01 Mar 2009This was a very entertaining film for anyone of any age. It had cool action, and good special effects. Frankie Muniz was good as Cody and Hilary Duff was excellent at playing Natalie connors.(in the movie, codys assignment is to get close to natalie connors because of her dad). Perfect Film to take the whole family to. This was also pretty funny. Very good action/family/comedy.Really cool! 8.5/10Rating PG contains the action/fighting scenes, 3 mild swears and a little bit of sensual material here & there. Overall, ok for almost every age.
James Bond JR.
posted on 23 Feb 2009Agent Cody Banks is an action filled movie with great casts, scenes and of course a great plot. The beginning starts with Cody on his way to school with great shots of Seattle. Then a 3 years old kid takes over his mother's car after left alone in the car, goes backwards down a crowded Seattle street so Cody is on the go, chasing the boy down the hill, then, of course, a railroad crossing begins to lower. Cody catches up with the car and up on top of it as the camera shows a British Columbia freight train barreling out the tunnel. Cody pulls the emergency brake of the car and the stops feet from the crossing, where the train is passing. All throughout the movie actions are happening from the beginning to the end where a great battle ensues after Cody sneaks into the ERIS base in the beautiful North Cascade Mountains. Think of this movie as a cross between James Bond & Spy Kids, it's kind of in the middle so pre-teens & teens will enjoy it. Frankie Muniz and Hillary Duff did an excellent job acting. If your kids enjoy watching Lizzie McGuire and Malcolm in the Middle, then they and you won't be disappointed in this movie. I can't give the plot away or why Cody Banks needs to get close to Hillary in the movie but you'll figure it out and if you see the movie you'll enjoy it.
What was it called again?
posted on 07 Dec 2008If you want a brainless 90 minutes in which you simply do not want to think then this is the kind of movie you might want to rent.Frankie Munitz, mooching off what fame he has left before he becomes a 'former child star' is the Junior James Bond, a kid in the CIA. Yes, it's stupid but it makes things happen for a while. Hilary Duff is his would-be girlfriend as he freezes up when he talks to girls (stop it, you're killing me). Her dad is some scientist working for a madman (played by some overtanned Brit) and he has to infiltrate blah blah blah...Yes it is bad, but it could be worse, it could be the sequel. A film so bad and so quickly hashed out that they forgot they already set up Arnold Vosloo as a returning baddie.
Tell it as it is
posted on 25 Nov 2008I loved the film, not just because I like all the actors in the movie, but also because it is a great comedy/action/romance film for nearly everyone. The casting for the film was brilliant - especially Hilary Duff and Frankie Muniz! They make a great pair. I hope most of the cast will sign on for the sequel. Brilliant!
Overall cute
posted on 23 Nov 2008I would say that Frankie Muniz dose an excellent job to capture the adolescents of his character with out being too forward. He expresses what most young men feel at this age by being a complete dork around girls. He also gets the James Bond for teenagers (especially the action part) down pat. He gets the girl in this movie but in an unlikely way. His character is a complete dork around girls yet he still gets the girl because she likes him for who he is. The girl, Hillary Duff also does a wonderful job as the popular but nice girlfriend-to-be. She also was a good damsel in distress. The casting was good in a way that charters made you laugh and of course made you want the good guy to win. Over all very cute, a perfect movie for teens.
I Spy
posted on 19 Nov 2008As silly comedies go, this one will be remembered for one of the worse premises in a few years. It's so inane that all the people responsible for this mess will probably be leaving town very soon, or maybe it'll become a Saturday afternoon cult film for the sub-teen age set that they will be called back to work on "Agent Cody Banks II, III, IV and V"Frankie Muniz is a very likable actor whose presence on screen is a plus, but he deserves better.Wait and borrow the DVD from your local library!
a fun movie with alot of laughs
posted on 08 Oct 2008above all this movie is fun. i like that they got frankie muniz and hillary duff who are both at the top of there game and popularity and not some 19 to 22 year old trying to play at 16 year old. they look young and thats whats great about this movie. they have young looking kid doing all this amazing stuff. and yeah the premise is chessy and typical but thats what movies are for. your suppose to go to a movie and get something that might not happen in your evreyday life. the only problem tat i kinda had with the movie was Angie Harmon. i think she was wonderful in the film but her costumes to me didnt fit the character nor a pg movie. above all franke and hillary have a great pressence and chemistry on the screen and i think there both udderly charming and great.
A good way to pass a rainy evening
posted on 08 Oct 2008I think some people get a little too rough on movies. Every movie cannot be Schindler's List, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, whatever. This movie was fine entertainment for the whole family -- essential clean of gore, foul language and anything except the mildest sexual references.Someone compared it to James Bond replica movies. I think they are close, but off. It seemed to more closely resemble the Mission Impossible, Charlie's Angels slice of the secret agent/spy pie. I would wait to see it at matinee prices or rent it when it comes out, but would hold off on the full price admission.
dear god
posted on 11 Aug 2008I don't normally review films. But maybe its the beautiful weather or something cause this is the third film I've reviewed today. And Good heavens was this silly.Ok ok.. I know this movie is for kids. I was aware of that when I bought my girlfriend and I tickets to see it. She wanted to go, and despite my fears of throwing money out the window so to speak, I agreed. And, with no suprise, I didn't enjoy myself. This film is for the young and perhaps the young at heart. I guess the one possitive thing about this film I can say is that I infact learned alot about myself after leaving the theater..
Spy Kids wana be
posted on 30 Jul 2008I didn't like this for a number of reasons. Firstly, Hilary Duff is just annoying, and even the likable Frankie Munitz becomes annoying after an hour. It's silly, not really funny, not clever, and not even that original any more so there is actually no longer any reason to watch this, other that maybe as some light-entertainment for your kids. Adults might be impressed first-time round but if you watch it twice you start to see how annoying it is. I can stand the fact that it is unbelievable, but it really is just very annoying. I didn't laugh much either. Actually I think I'd rather watch Spy Kids 2 again, and that's saying something.
Teen-Age James Bond flick
posted on 26 Jul 2008This was a cute movie that is entertaining for kids (over 6, possibly 7...there is one scene where a guy melts from the inside out similar to the guys melting in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" so if your child is squeamish or prone to nightmares, beware. If you know it's coming, have your child close his/her eyes) and teens. We took our 3 girls and met two of my 15 year old's friends there. We are all fans of Frankie Muniz, who is a fine actor and a a darn cute kid...hope he doesn't ruin his life like a lot of child stars do. He plays a likeable teen CIA agent who is uncomfortable around girls (to say the least) yet his first job as an agent is to get close to a lovely teenage girl (Hillary Duff). The one thing I didn't appreciate was the overly sexily dressed Angie Harmon...was it truly necessary for her to have every top unzipped to 3 inches below her bustline? It was particularly silly to see her dressed thus in the snow. I realize this was a parody of sorts, but it's aimed at kids...it would be possibly to portray a sexy woman without her top zipped down to her navel. Other than that, this was a cute movie...pretty good entertainment for the family. It was pure fantasy, and I think kids can recognize it as such.
A little affended by a couple comments
posted on 18 Jul 2008Over all I thought the movie was cute for my 2 children, but it also almost be rated PG-13.The scene with the boys in gym class having their mouthes hanging out over Angie Harmon was a bit too much,I didn't like the comments when Frankie Muniz was studdering when he couldn't talk to the girls and they said what do you belong in Special Ed.Being a former teacher and worked with Special Ed students that came across the wrong way.many of my former students didn't stutter and were smart just took longer to learn.
Silly, unbelievable; made for the 12 and under crowd
posted on 12 Jul 2008There's not much to say. We sat through it and were pretty much bored. The only people in the audience who reacted to some of the "gotcha" scenes were the little kids. Frankie Muniz did a good job considering the lame, unbelievable plot. The adults in the film were silly cartoon characters, mostly incredibly stupid. The CIA people were unbelievably stupid; the villains were ridiculously villainous. And, the CIA woman "handler" of Cody, the kid-CIA agent, was a buxom gal with an inappropriate skin tight outfit showing all of her charms. The only people I think who would like this film are the 12 and under set. There was a lot of action, leaping, skate boarding, fighting. And, of course there were explosions aplenty at the end. It would have been a lot better film if it was played straight and not cartoony.
A great teen show but should have been made for TV (SPIOLERS!)
posted on 15 May 2008Well as you may know that there are not very many good teen movies around these days but Agent Cody Banks is a exception. This movie contains in the lead roles Frankie Muniz and Hilary Duff and well they are not the greatest but you can tell they really tired to make this show good. The plot is basically about a fifteen year old boy who is a junior secert agent working for the CIA. Brillent scientist Dr. Duncon Connors has devolped the nanobots tiny little robets that can destroy any metal. The company ERIS has plans to steal them and use them to make threats to the US govermant and rule the world. The CIA gets news of it they dispatch Cody Banks to stop ERIS and protect Dr. Connors beautiful daughter Natalie. The show has some great action scenes but it should have been a Disney Channel movie they could use a good one. Overall this movie was not bad but wate for it to come out on video.
American junk
posted on 07 May 2008A definite no no ....terrible attempt at an american james bond junior. follows the usual format but just fails to entertain. could possibly keep young kids busy for a while but they may get lost as the film tries to appeal to too many age group,,,such a shame for the star of Malcolm in the middle

Entertaining but Essentially Vacant
posted on 16 Aug 2009Like any spy flick this one for kids is full of gadgets, martial arts, thrills and bad guys. It certainly is fast-paced and entertaining, and there are some funny bits. Muniz's Agent Banks character is engaging, but I found the negative aspects of the film to be too overwhelming. Knowing that most kids in North America will be seeing this film, I was offended by the constant cleavage shots of Angie Harmon's character, dressed in skin-tight skimpy clothing. Sure, she's sexy, but does my nine-year old have to be bombarded with that? I also found it a little scary that the whole spy thing happens without the parents' knowledge - like, are we condoning kids being in secret organizations engaged in dangerous activities without Mom and Dad even knowing about it? I know, I know, it's just a movie but I'm a parent and that's how it makes me feel. I'd say this movie is basically fine for older kids - 12-13 and up, but considering the violence and the sexy parts, pass on it for the youngers.
