I enjoyed this film very much even though I read a bad report first which almost put me off going to see it

Enjoyable movie in the Ealing tradition
posted on 31 Jul 2009I wasn't expecting much and was heartened to see that I got a classic Brit comedy - full of subtle humor (and gross humor) and completely, joyfully unbelievable. Except it has that edge of possibility to it... Sort of Ealing Comedy in the Lavender Hill Mob style - goodies and baddies and Gran with biscuits at the right time. the acting was OK, the characters not so much believable as acceptable parodies of real life people and the story line memorable. There are a few weak moments - but aren't there in all movies - such as the reporter on their trail. My favorite role was Harry Dean Stanton as the original cameraman - he plays it with his usual mix of deadpan and malice...
Great job Boys !!!
posted on 23 Jul 2009Saw the Alien Autopsy charity premiere in Newcastle last night and I must admit it is great, The story revolves round the two main characters Ray (Dec) and Gary (Ant) and basically it's the story of how they obtained actual footage of an alien autopsy performed by the American military in 1947 (Roswell-ring any bells!!) and how the film was damaged and had to be re made to stop Ray being dissected by a psychotic gangster. It's a story that all of us 30+ people should remember from 10 yrs ago, and now after over 10 yrs the story is being told in a very entertaining way. It's not what I expected from Ant and Dec, I thought it might be an extended takeaway/jungle exploit but it is a good movie with a strong believable storyline and strong characters in Ant and Dec. Go and see it to make your own decision but don't miss out. If you like to be entertained you will love this. The movie does leave you with one question though, Is the truth out there!!!
It's a classic British Movie by any standard
posted on 21 Jul 2009I cannot understand why this film has been knocked. Why is it that the trendy Brits love to bash their stars when they get to a certain level. Alien Autopsy is a well crafted good quality movie. It is an independent effort and if it came out of any other European country it would be regarded as a worthy representative film of that country. So Alien Autopsy doesn't have glossy American Special Effects but so what? The story is well told. the acting is good and by the way isn't it about a group of Brits who took on the world and won? My hat comes off to the Ant and Dec team for finding a good story and having the guts to do it.
True Story
posted on 13 Jul 2009I went to see this movie yesterday not knowing it was based on a true story. I think it made it much better not knowing as i really didn't take it seriously. I thought Ant&Dec did a good job, especially Ant because his part was so different from his usual comedy act. I thought the story was interesting and really wacky. I enjoyed Jimmy Carr's appearance, though it was short. I always love anything with Omid Djalili in it, hes so funny! This film is almost dark humored. If u are squeamish i suggest that u do not go to this movie!!!! Maybe if u don't like ANt&Dec you shouldn't watch it either... I really enjoyed it and i highly recommend this movie to anyone who just wants to watch a movie and have a bit of a laugh!
Well...
posted on 17 Jun 2009I looked for the bad comments.. and there are almost only from UK. So.. I don't understand why they have to make this movie have such a low rating. It's one of your own movies guys! And I like English comedy a lot... because this two guys are from a show or I don't know what else... it doesn't mean that this movie it's not entertaining. It really is... and I would like to find many more movies like this one. but what should i do? look for movies that they have a 4.6 score? There are so many really bad American comedies with much better ratings. I really wonder if those guys, that gived this ratings, like them more. sorry for my pathetic English...and comment. With respect, Alex
Total crap
posted on 11 Jun 2009OK I've seen some stinkers in my time but this one takes the biscuit. The plot: A guy sees an alien being cut open , he cant show to anyone else so he remakes it, he make loads of money and receives the fixed one back at the end.Yes thats it!!! The jokes are appalling, the acting is excruciating and the setting is stupid. It was also awaste of talent.Ant and Dec are very good entertainers but somehow they managed to turn something that sounds OK ,into a complete and utter joke.I don't recommend this to anyone. Only watch this if you love sleeping or like being bored
Credible, entertaining and fun
posted on 11 Feb 2009I went to the premiere last night and wasn't sure what to expect - my initial thoughts were that Ant and Dec would fizzle out in a medium to which they don't fit. I was pleasantly surprised, however.Overall, Alien Autopsy is a very funny, whimsical film. The script is patchy in places - subplots get twisted and don't really tie together satisfactorily in the end - but this is made up by the pleasure (and it really is a genuine pleasure) to see Ant and Dec putting in strong performances in the lead roles. This is the sort of film that the critics would be sharpening their knives for. I think those knives can be put back in the drawer.Make no mistake: this isn't your traditional British comedy. The cameos fit perfectly into the plot and everyone has a purpose. There are no big faces included for the sake of it. Somehow, it works. This is an enjoyable film and good family entertainment. It won't win any awards, but it's harmless, clean fun - and very good harmless clean fun at that.
Oh Dear
posted on 03 Feb 2009Ant and Dec are huge in the UK, they really are superb entertainers, but when they are entertaining, they are being themselves, and the audiences loves it. They are the best comedy due to present TV programmes in the past decade. So, they've conquered the TV and music industry (the less said about that the better) and they've decided to move onto the movie world. They should have stayed where they were. They just can't pull it off as actors. All the way through the film, you are sat thinking "It's Ant and Dec, it's Ant and Dec" not the characters they are meant to be portraying. The acting is just awful, the two of them seem way to pleased with themselves, they seem to be very big headed and too sure of themselves, thinking that they are almost too good for the movie themselves. The plot of the movie isn't much better, it could have been something really good, perhaps if they cast real actors as the leads. But, still, the plot is boring an uninteresting, filled with weak back-up characters, weak acting, editing and poor direction. I feel as though Ant and Dec only took this opportunity because it was the only movie they were offered.Sorry Ant and Dec, don't make a movie ever again. I've lost respect for you after this.
The boys can still act, and act well. The comic duet brings this story to life.
posted on 08 Jan 2009I for one, really enjoyed this film. The story is well written and keeps you interested throughout. Ant and Dec make you care about these characters, no matter how annoying they might seem. Sometimes the story seems to good be to good to be true for these guys, which can sometimes make it seem unbelievable. However, it explains the story of the apparent hoax well. For anyone who remembers watching Jonathon Frakes on the Sci-fi channel those years ago, its a could trip down memory lane. The movie doesn't try to convince you that a tape like this doesn't exist, which keeps people's faith in ET still as really as it was before you enter the cinema. All sci-fi fans should check this film out. Its worth watching because of the comic acting of our beloved Ant and Dec pair. Well done guys!
It was a hoax after all
posted on 06 Jan 2009Remember that big scandal about a video showing an alien autopsy? It was proved to be a hoax, although people still believe in it. This is the story of the making of the video, including the idea that the hoax actually started from a real movie.Anyway, who cares? The movie is marginally funny, really indie, and actors like Pullman and Stanton don't really belong in it, but it's OK. It's like a brit gangster movie with little humor and pathetic gangsters. And everything revolves around a video not guns or money. Oh, and it's based on true facts :)Who wants facts anymore? Give me fantasy or give me death!
Real or fake - make up your own mind!
posted on 04 Jan 2009Very funny, I really like Ant and Dec acting abilities in this film. It is a shame that Ant's best part was on one of the deleted scenes, otherwise they work very well together. Good timing, good chemistry, good delivery! I never thought they could do a film after Byker Grove after about 12 years ago, shows that they still have the talent. I never know if they are actually acting or being themselves some of the times.Enjoyable, fun and silly, I would like to see another film with Ant and Dec, they are so good. I actually liked the extras, how everything was done and commented. I especially liked the deleted scenes. It was good to hear from the director what he had to say over the deleted scenes. Very good hindsight. Emotionally, serious and funny, covers all areas that I like in a film.
Well I liked it...
posted on 29 Dec 2008First things first, if you are determined to take this film seriously, you will be sorely disappointed when you see it. It's meant to be a light hearted spoof that leaves you wanting to know more about the original fake tape. Surprisingly, Ant and Dec make good watching and seem like credible actors (if you ever saw Byker Grove you will know what I mean about being surprised). What I liked about this film was that no-one in the cinema roared with laughter or wet themselves in utter enjoyment of the comedy. It brought a few smiles, but there weren't any knee slapping good jokes. If there had of been, critics may have written it off as a slapstick, and the expectation of the comedy would have overshadowed the other elements of the film. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to see something a little bit more intelligent than your average television-turned-Hollywood type of film. Don't expect life-changing one liners or anything, but do go and see it.
Lower your expectations...this is actually a good movie
posted on 15 Dec 2008I marked this comment as containing a spoiler, but I don't really believe it does. But I got scared by the "blacklist" threat, so I thought I'd cover my tush. This low budget British buddy flick is actually quite interesting and fun to watch. As unlikely and unbelievable as the plot is, it actually pulls you in to its world and works on several different levels. Sure, it borrows a bit from other genres, i.e, suspense, heist, con-artist, and British gangster flicks. This is a low-key comedy and even most of the gags have been done better and funnier in other films. It doesn't matter, though, because the lead actors are likable and charming and the movie doesn't try to hard.Even at the end, when you're prepared for anything to happen, and if you're in the spirit of the movie, you actually find yourself on the edge of your seat. This movie doesn't end in a big bang. Your world won't be turned upside down. You won't look at existence any deeper than you do now.But you may actually feel yourself wanting to believe. You may experience what it might be like to be tempted to believe in the impossible. By not taking itself too seriously, the movie very casually lowers your defenses and makes you root for the truth to be revealed. The only question is, Is it? Is it really?
What a turkey!
posted on 15 Dec 2008I bought this DVD on an impulse as, generally speaking, I find Ant and Dec very amusing and great entertainers. I have to say, though, that I found the film disappointing in the extreme, totally unfunny and a complete waste of time. This view was shared by my 26-year-old daughter (who has a great sense of humour) who was watching it with me. She, at least, managed to stay awake and see it through to the end - I dozed off in the last ten minutes through sheer boredom but, according to my daughter, I didn't miss anything. I've seen some pretty appalling films in my time and I'm afraid 'Alien Autopsy' has to be right up there with the worst of them.
An enjoyable, gentle British comedy with an interesting story. And Ant and Dec's acting skills are very impressive.
posted on 09 Dec 2008This film has received unfair reviews. Regardless of whether you like Ant and Dec, it is very enjoyable. It's a good story that holds your interest until the very end and forces you to draw your own conclusions as to how true Santilli and Shoefield's 'true story' actually is. However, if you're looking for an hilarious comedy then give it a miss. It's only got a few gentle laughs, but if you want to spend a worthwhile hour and a half being entertained I'd highly recommend it. Ant and Dec's fans will love it. You quickly forget that it's them and believe in their characters and they have great chemistry on screen, as always. Dec particularly shines, relishing the 'wheeler-dealer' portrayal of Ray Santilli. And an excellent supporting cast help to make this one of the best British films I've seen in ages. Certainly doesn't deserve to be in the bottom 100 on IMDb!
Fun! Very entertaining
posted on 03 Dec 2008I don't understand the low score. Worth watching, well done.Based on true events. Believable.slightly embellished. But seems like they stayed true to what actually occurred in '95.I love IMDb, but I don't trust it's star score.Who knows who clicks the rating button? I like.what I like, they're right to them I'm right to me.Acting= very good script= very good cinematography= very good.P.S. watch the credits all the way through. see the real guys.jim.
Surprisingly good!
posted on 27 Nov 2008Ant and Dec have moved well past their Byker Grove days in this weird but wonderful movie. The way the story is told is really good - as a documentary/flashback! It really makes you think about the possibilities of what happened at Roswell and maybe there is something out there. Sorry, going all alien on you - but thats what the film makes you think. The sub-plot of the gangsters adds interest to the main story and, as you may or may not know, it is based on a true story - whether the whole thing is true or not, I can't remember! But who cares? Ant and Dec both deliver good characters and proves to the world that they can still act - long after PJ and Duncan! Surprise appearances from other comedians is a good laugh too. I could go on and on about this film but I don't want to spoil it too much. Just go and see it - it's a film that cannot be judged by just reading about it as different people think different things on this film. A must for Ant and Dec fans at least!!
It is OK with mild humour, like an OK curry really!
posted on 17 Nov 2008Ant and Dec are here hoorah its going to be great! Well thats what I thought and all was good. There was the normal problem at the cinema with the screen flickering while me and tom waited for the film to begin and then it did! After watching it I thought it was fairly good, some fairly funny jokes in it which made the obsessive Ant and Dec fans giggle like excited monkeys. This giggling after a while was slightly annoying as some parts where not that funny. The film its self is fairly well done. Throughout the film you switch back from 1995 to present day and this keeps you watching. Downers are that the same joke over and over again doesn't really make a film. Also I never seemed to pick up on the protagonists names because they where played by Ant and Dec and so will remain as Ant and Dec for...well forever! Also the story isn't the most amazing thing since spaghetti junction so that lost it brownie points.

Fascinating
posted on 28 Aug 2009What can I say? Alien Autopsy is an all round brilliant film with a great story line and cast. The humorous Ant & Dec take on the lead roles of the film starring as Ray Santilli and Gary Shoefield. In my opinion it wasn't the cast or humour that really made this film and believe me the cast was great and film is very funny but what really made it for me was the story. It was terrific and fascinating watching something that really happened in my life time.Ray Santilli(ANT) stumbles upon some rare footage filmed in 1947 at Roswell but requires $30,000 to purchase it so he takes a loan from a local gangster with a passion or crop circles. However, when he takes the film out of the tin it eats itself, not wanted to displease the deadly gangster they decide to remake the autopsy. They successfully fool the gangster and go on to fool the world and become rich in doing so.This film is a must watch, especially at the end when a tremendous and amazing twist takes place. A twist that only today has come to light, was there really an original tape? Watch it.
