VERY lame attempt to cash in on Amer. Psyco 1

posted on 18 Aug 2009

"American Psycho 2" just came on HBO, so I am currently writing this as I watch it. The only question I have about the movie thus far is if I can even stand to watch it til it's inevitably horrid conclusion. So far I've subtracted 2 points from my rating for the opening sequence, an amazingly bad tie-in to the original "American Psycho." Might as well go ahead and subtract another 2 points for the terrible acting displayed thus far. And let's just go and subtract another 2 points for the absurd plot. I enjoyed the original "American Psycho"; shame they've destroyed any chance of a quality sequel. The way they attempt to link this movie to the first one should be a crime.**SPOILERS**The movie itself is about a college student with aspirations for working at some special division of the FBI. An almost guaranteed way of getting into the program is by becoming a Professor's teacher's aide. The problem is that this is a much-coveted position and the competition is fierce. She figures the best way to land the position is by killing off all her competitors. Uhhh, right.Mila Kunis (from tv's "That 70's Show") stars as the murderous college student. She does a truly excellent job of showcasing the fact that she has NO acting skills whatsoever. Her voiceover narrative is sub-par and rather grating. This may be the most unconvincing portrayal any actor has given in a role since Freddie Prinze Jr. played a fighter pilot in "Wing Commander." She should be a role model for pretty girls though. No woman has gone as far as she has on looks alone since Pamela Anderson made her meteoric rise to the middle. And Mila didn't even have to take her clothes off for Playboy.......yet.William Shatner is the Professor of Criminal Profiling or whatever. He gives a...Shatneresque performance for the film. I happen to think Shatner is a talented actor whose career has been hindered by playing iconic roles in a couple of television shows, not that he or his accountant have been complaining. In recent years he has been reduced to playing caricatures of himself (the Priceline.com commercials, "Showtime"). Here, he does as fine a job as ever doing just that. In fact, he is the only watchable person in the movie. At least he's still working. The rest of the cast is disposable, much like their murder-victim characters. An hour and 10 minutes into the movie I'm prepared to give this a 2/10. If you get a chance to check this out for free, and there's absolutely *nothing* else on television, you may want to give it looksie. If nothing else you may get a kick out of seeing Mila Kunis in her jogging outfit and low-cut dress.

Killer Cute!

I continue to be surprised at how poorly this film has been received. I absolutely LOVE IT! I was a big fan of the first one, and was very nervous when I heard there were plans for a sequel. It just didn't make any sense. But once I saw it I was very pleased with it... the key is to ignore the link they try to establish between the first film and this film... it's obvioulsy NOT POSSIBLE to anyone who saw and understood the first one. So just ignore it... it seems to me that someone had a great movie idea but was only able to pitch it as a sequel to something else, so they called it American Psycho II and tweaked the exposition. Taken as a movie on it's own, and NOT as a sequel, it is absolutely adorable. William Shatner still has it! (And based on most of the other performances, I'd say "it" is catching.) The movie does not take itself seriously, even for a second, and that is the key... that's what makes it great instead of stupid. It KNOWS it's ridiculous, and it is HAPPY that way. But to work, the viewers also have to not take it (or themselves) seriously... so relax and enjoy!

Dreadful insult in name to the original American Psycho.

This pretends to be a sequel to the superb American Psycho. It isn't. it's an insult. It simply exploits a spurious association and in so doing drags down the earlier work.Right from the very start to the very last second we are hammered with the leaden narration of the lead character, nothing is left for us to see. It might as well be a "talking book for the visually impaired". Maybe the director is visually impaired: how else does he fail to see the absurdity of the illustration on the cover of a book about a murder being a photo taken a few minutes after the incident for which there were only three witnesses without a photographer among them? The plot makes no sense. Sure, the stolen identity idea works, just about, but even that falls apart when we consider that college records usually include photos of the students. What is worse is that the narrator tells us she kept quiet about seeing a murder to avoid years of therapy, then goes to a therapist anyway, doesn't actually tell him anything, but invests great effort in inspiring fear in him, a character who had no relevance whatever to the protagonists plans. Except that, coincidentally, he happens to be the professors friend. Which suggests that this entire chunk of the plot is simply a cack-handed way of tacking-on an external viewpoint to the professors death. How incompetent a method of storytelling is that?In a work where it is used to serious effect we might tolerate the gross and extreme violence that begin with the very first frame ( a severed head ). But in this context, a ridiculous piece of chirpy teen-twaddle, that explicit violence becomes offensive. Speaking of teen-twaddle, the music is unremittingly awful throughout. Apart from the incidental score. But hang on, how come the movie's own incidental music is actually playing on the girls car radio? Remember, she actually turns it's volume up! This detail is a POS of the highest order.Tip: Morgan Freeman, stick to "acting", I mean, smoking cigars and looking soulful!

Nowhere near as good as the original.

Let me start off by saying, if it wasn't for Mila Kunis I wouldn't have even bothered. I enjoyed the film somewhat. But this doesn't come close to the original. This movie resides somewhere in sequel hell. It has aspects of Exorcist 3, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, most Friday the 13th movies, and Crow: City of Angels. What aspects am I speaking of? Well, like Exorcist 3, it wouldn't have gotten funding without the American Psycho name. Like Crow: City of Angels, it isn't really a sequel but more like a spin-off almost of the first one. Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, it takes a great classic powerful movie and almost strips it of all its power by simply being in existence although not to the great extent of the aforementioned Texas #2. And finally, like all Friday the 13th movies it follows the rule that continuity in sequels isn't necessary to start production. For those of you who didn't enjoy the first film, you obviously didn't get it. I got it. And I laughed my ass off from the first frame to the last. This film is different. I'm lured in by my lust for Mila Kunis and my hope that the American Psycho name is a good thing. The snappier parts of dialouge are well-written and well delivered. And did I mention Mila Kunis is really really hot? Other than that, this is like a cheap, watered-down B-movie version of American Psycho. It's worth checking out once. It is nowhere as near as rewatchable as the first film, but still enjoyable. But this is nowhere near the honor of best sequel ever. And for anyone who thinks the director gets more credit for shooting this movie fast...go check out the original Halloween and Evil Dead movies. Halloween was shot in 22 days and is infinitely better. And Sam Raimi does so much more with his budget than Carpenter did for Halloween. And those films were produced at a fraction of the cost of what cost to make this one.

Worst film ever.

I had high hopes for American Psycho II, after seeing the first several times and being quite a fan, I was understandably excited when I heard that a sequel was on the cards.Unfortunately, calling this film a sequel is completely ridiculous. Bateman is in the first 2 minutes, then the film turns into a teen slasher flic. It might as well have been called 'Scream, because I know what you did last wednesday : part 15' it was that bad.Under no circumstances purchase, rent or watch this film. If you want to watch an intelligent witty film, go for American Psycho. Avoid American Psycho II at ALL COSTS.

The Murder of a Great Book and Movie

posted on 13 Jul 2009

Only Hollywood could so predictably turn a dark comedy and satire of a culture of people addicted to conformity and normality into a C-grade slasher flick whose target audience seems to be the same group as the original satirized. Whoever first thought American Psycho 2 would be a good idea either never read the book nor saw the first movie, or didn't get either, and no matter which it is, they deserve to have Patrick Bateman loosed on them. Furthermore, they actually butchered (Aha! A fitting verb.) some of the elements of Patrick Bateman's story as well. Patrick Bateman wasn't killed by a little girl, he was killed in a pier fire in Lunar Park, and they seemed to miss the bit at the end of the American Psycho book/movie in which it's revealed that Bateman never really killed anyone, or it's at least left ambiguous. No, none of these elements require any attention. They just had this tie-in with American Psycho to milk the license of the popular novel/movie. The movie itself is entirely uninteresting and predictable. A terrible movie in its own right, made infinitely and unforgivably worse by the besmirching of a great story. A black mark on Mila Kunis' and William Shatner's careers. Do not see this trainwreck.

Disneys best effort so far!!

This film wasn't quite what I was expecting, but if you have kids, this is definately a must see for the family. A rip-roaring comedy, paying close homage to the Mickey Mouse Club, it has something for everyone. Hilarious!!1/10

Quite good for a sequel!

AMERICAN PSYCHO 2: ALL AMERICAN GIRL is a pretty good sequel to 2000's AMERICAN PSYCHO even though it has absolutely nothing to do with the first one. This one isn't nearly as graphic as the first AMERICAN PSYCHO was, yet it still is just as powerful and fascinating. Mila Kunis [from THAT 70S SHOW] is extraordinary in her first lead role. This is a movie that sadly never got a theatrical release, but I have a feeling it will gain somewhat of a cult following in the years to come.

Although I've never seen the original American Psycho. I checked this out cause this type movie looked interesting just by looking at the movie cover. I read the back and checked it out anyway. I watched it and Mila Kunis I think did a great job. She made the movie funny in a dark way. Some of the killing scenes are which you mostly see in movies, but Mila Kunis I thought gave a good performance. She set off a sexy vibe in a funny way, but I enjoyed it and in the meantime I heard the original movie is better so I'll have to check that out!

What is this?

From the first 5 minutes of the movie, I came to the conclusion that it would have made a good USA Original Movie, you know those ones that are on Saturdays at 2 in the afternoon. It however, was a terrible sequel to American Psycho. You have to take in mind that American Psycho was not meant to be a franchise, it was just supposed to be the one movie, one brilliant and darkly comedic movie. Lions Gate saw the chance to milk more money of the cult fan base that adored the original AP. This movie completely ruined the end of the first one, there were so many questions you were left to go over following Bateman's admission. AP2 basically says "Bateman was real, he killed people, and eventually was killed by a 12 year old girl." So my suggestion is tear off American Psycho from the title and call it All American Girl. Mila Kunis could have drawn a decent interest in her own original idea horror movie.

Just had to review this one.........

I can honestly say that I'm easy to please with movies - I'll sit through a mediocre film and at least watch it to the end.I'll also praise and mention at least once a week movies that I love, such as fight club, the matrix, amelie and other very good movies (my opinion of course)This movie however I can honestly say was so bad I couldn't sit through it, the acting is nothing short of atrocious, the lines are terrible, the realism pathetic and the fact it "stole" the name from the original is actually insulting! The original was a fairly good movie, but this is HONESTLY a 2/10 movie - the ONLY saving merits is the fairly attractive girl who stars in it and....... i think that's about it.SERIOUSLY do yourself a favour and see something else - quite possibly one of the worst movies I've ever seen (hell I even sat through 2 fast 2 furious and THAT blows this away!)Infact it's SO damn bad they could almost MST3K it!UGH!

Booooo. Boo boo boo booooo. While watching this film I was actually hoping Mila Kunis would hope out of the screen and kill me to spare me from this crap. There were a few things that saved the film: 1) Mila Kunis is hot. 2) It actually kind of looks like Bateman at the beginning. 3) It's fun to repeat Shatner's lines in a Cpt. Kirk-esque voice. That's about it though. This movie is an insult to Bret Easton Ellis and anyone involved with the REAL American Psycho movie. It seems that they made a typical teen slasher flick and then said "Ooh ooh! Let's call it 'American Psycho 2' and make a few references to the original movie. Save you money, time, and dignity and don't subject yourself to this rubbish. Boooo!

Worst Movie-Mistake ever

posted on 02 Apr 2009

The movie itself wasn't too bad. I mainly wanted to watch if for Mila.
The main thing is that this film had the worst movie mistake ever. I'm not talking some guys tie is one color in a shot then another color in the next shot. I'm not even talking about someone's hair being wet then suddenly dry. About a third of the way into the movie a guy is murdered and then about half way through the movie he's suddenly alive again sitting in the background (not his usual seat) like nothing happened. What's wrong did they run out of extras? :-)

Not Too Bad

I had seen this in the Video Store with "10/10"-IMDB written on it so i thought i would hire it out. But before i saw it i came to this site to find out that it wasnt 10/10, but more like 4.3/10. Now, with that aside, this movie was MADE FOR TV! But i have to say that the movie was funny in some places and also it was clever in making you think twice on who the killer was. If you want to watch a gorry horror film then hire something else :) If you want to have a good time watching something alittle different then try this movie out. I felt if the title wasnt American Psycho 2 the the movie might of been a little better. People will think its just like the first movie, but its not. SO sit back and enjoy!

Things that make you go oooempff!

Maybe I've watched too many horror flicks or maybe I'm a possible serial killer myself :) but this movie was so darn predictable that in the end I got more scared of my fortune-telling skills than this movie. Trust me, we have all seen this before, and we've seen it better, a lot better! Especially since this movie has hardly anything to do with the original, I think this is just a cheap way to ride on the popularity of the first part and trying to get some more money out of your pocket.Better keep it there and spend it on something else!

Pointless Sequel

posted on 01 Mar 2009

It's quite obvious that the makers of this film had no idea what the original was about, nor does it seem that they actually cared. Apart from the voice-overs being no match for the eerie tone that Christian Bale had in the original, the entire movie was a complete remake of some TV movie rather than a sequel to an unquestionable cinema masterpiece. Lacking any sort of depth of character, depth of story or anything else that was present in the original, this poor movie was just a lot of empty vacuum punctuated by the perfunctory murder scenes.Strangely enough, it reminded me of another lackluster "horror" movie starring Melissa Sue Anderson of "Little House on the Prarie" fame. This movie is just as bad as that one (Happy Birthday to Me).

American Psycho 2 is offensively bad

posted on 27 Feb 2009

This film comes no where even close to earning it's title. I would even go so far as to say that this may be one of the worst films ever made. The original American Psycho was an intelligent psychological study from the perspective of a sociopath living in the yuppie culture in the 1980's. It was both eerie and haunting yet at the same time humorous. Christian Bale expertly breathed life into the character of Patrick Bateman and largely contributed to the film becoming a cult classic. The sequel has none of the the qualities that made the original so great and if it weren't for the title and a poor attempt to include Bateman in the story, you would think that it was a low rate made for TV slasher flick. It is clear that the creative team behind this film have absolutely no respect for the original or the insight into what made the original work. There really isn't a single redeemable element in this waste of celluloid. The acting was bad, the story was terrible, the direction was uninspired, and even the music was unbearable. The narrative twists pretend to be clever when they are about as far away from as possible. This is the greatest insult to the original imaginable. A huge spit into the face of the fans. Why anyone would even consider making a sequel to American Psycho is beyond me. I'm going to pretend I never saw this film as soon as I post this comment.

art pollution.

First of all, Alex Sanger and Karen Craig should be loathed and possibly incarcerated for ever writing this. In fact, everyone involved here deserves a, if not physical then atleast a verbal, lash or two.The plotline; Mila Kunis (yes, That 70's girl) plays Rachel Newman, who, thanks to the fact that the writers who obviously never quite understood the original flick, as a child witnesses the final murder of serial killer Patrick Bateman. After growing up, she attends the FBI Academy for serial killer profiling. However, it soon becomes clear that she is quite the psycho herself and starts to hack 'n' slash her classmates that seems to pose a threat to her. Very soon it's just a brainless teen slasher, and not even as a teen slasher is it worthy of your time, however little your time may be worth. Fast forward. There are not many highlights in this movie at all. If you have seen American Psycho, do not, under any circumstances watch this, the flagrant script is enough to eject this straight-to-video release. I don't think that the original screen adaption surpassed the book in quality, but for this sequel the term "art pollution" comes in handy. Heavens no.

American Psycho 2 is a great movie. I actually liked this more than the original American Psycho. This movie had many surprises. Kunis was good for the role or Rachel Newman. You should give this movie a chance and rent it. It was worth my money.... My rating: 9.5/10 American Psycho 2: All American Girl is rated R for (Violence, language)

American Psycho 2

This is the follow up to American Psycho which was a hit although, disturbing and violent a great piece of work I can't say the same about the second. Patrick Batemen is dead but not gone.(Mila Kunis) plays Rachel who survived Patrick Bateman as a young girl and now wreaks havoc against all who stand in the way of her teaching assistant position at a university. Also appearing William Shatner and Robin Dunne. The only thing this film had going for it was the sexy-lead.Pros (Mila Kunis), quirky languageCons Pointless storyline, unrealistic, Poor acting and terrible to produce this after the original.
