How to waste 12 million dollars.
posted on 18 Aug 2009I look around in the video store still in shock how Steven Seagal with his track record of Bad action movies can still have 3 movies hit the shelves in less than a Year.Attack force being the 3rd no less promised the first-time entrance into the Sci Fi Genre for our ever widening Seagal.Visions of bad movie entertainment flashed before my gullible eyes.Sadly this is not the case one bit with no entertainment and a movie as bad as they come.Seagal rebounded a tiny bit with the Trashy-but enjoyable Shadow Man last time we saw him. However Attack force has to be his absolute worst movie ever!Don't argue for out for a Kill,Ticker,or even Black Dawn folks. This is the bottom of the Septic tank here.Anyone who says this is Steven Seagal's return to form should be forced to write a 100 page essay on the word Taste. Seagal is yet another agent/I'm a supreme bad-ass yet again named Lawson wants revenge for the killing of his Team that leads him to a nefarious plot to distribute a really bad drug to the unsuspecting public. Not to mention the dealers are not from around here. The whole Production from Directing to the acting is poor. Was this movie shot in the Dark? Its gotta be the most poorly lighted movie since Howling 2.The action is terrible and very badly done. The Producers have also unwisely decided to do what the fans hate the most:throw in stunt double after stunt double and horribly dubbed Steven Seagal.Who seems to show little enthusiasm here. Can ya blame him? While it has been said that Attack Force was not the movie Stevie signed on for(originally Harvester)and surely has to be better than Attack force. The post-production tampering has not made it more coherent and made Seagal look worse.I feel bad for Directer Michael Keusch and writer Joe Halpin as they are gonna be judged forever for the ill-advised production re-shoots.So Now This leaves Seagal in the impossible position to come up with something to atone for this mess. But after seeing how bad Attack Force has turned out do we really want him to make another movie?
Worst movie ever...voice sounds like he has cancer!
posted on 11 Aug 2009This was the worst Seagal movie ever made...It was confusing, dark, stupid plot and they made his voice sound like the Marlboro man with cancer. I used to love his movies but if this is the stuff he is now making he is all washed up. He fights like a old man in the movie too...DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY...Too Bad...he used to be great!
Beyond Oscar
posted on 16 Jul 2009I am truly awed by this monumental piece of work. It smacks of something Shakespeare or Ed Woods would have given breath to. I will probably buy multiple copies of this movie and give them to my Democrat friends at Christmas. Please buy this movie and offer to pay the cashier twice the labeled price. You can't go wrong.
The worst Steven Segal movie ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!
posted on 09 Jul 2009Did Ed Wood direct this movie. This is the the Worst Steven Segal movie ever made. That's saying a lot because he's made some bad direct to video movies. Some were pretty descent, but this one is the worst of the DTV movies. His voice switches between some British guy and his actual voice. The action scenes are also pretty bad. You can tell that in some of the action scenes that he's using his stunt double. One fight scence was poorly setup. Look closely at the pillar to see what I'm talking about. I also didn't know that stairs had pullies instead of rails. The plot is'nt any better either. Half of it does,nt make sense. Steven Segal's men get killed and there's something about a superhuman CTX drug,That's funded and covered up by some coveret military people. Who ever takes this drug apparently can leap and act like a vampire. the drug also gets in the water supply. That part of the story never gets resolve. There is nothing good to say about this poor excuse for a movie, even for DTV standards. Does Steven Segal care about making quality movies anymore. I still have hope that he will. I highly reccomed that you don't rent this movie and especially don't buy this!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoa - worst SG movie yet
posted on 01 Jul 2009I had a feeling that after "Submerged", this one wouldn't be any better... I was right. He must be looking for champagne money, and not care about the final product... his voice gets repeatedly dubbed over by a stranger that sounds nothing like him; the editing is - well - just a grade above amateurish. It's nothing more than a B or C-grade movie with just enough money to hire a couple talented cameramen and an "OK" sound designer.Like the previous poster said, the problems seem to appear in post-production (...voice dubbing, etc.) Too bad, cause the plot's actually OK for a SG flick.I'll never rent another SG flick, unless he emails me asking for forgiveness.Too bad - I miss Kelly LeBrock...--jimbo
A poorly done movie, not worthy of Seagal
posted on 20 Jun 2009I've been a longtime fan of Seagal's movies, but I was greatly disappointed by this film. First, there were clearly sections where Steven Seagal's voice was done by a different actor who sounds nothing like him. (Clearly done when the film was cut together after the main filming) It was surprising that they could not take the time to get Seagal to do the vocal tracks for those sections. There were also very few action sequences that demonstrated Seagal's skills with martial arts. In many ways, this film was more of a slasher flick than an action film. Little action, but lots of bloody corpses lying about. I enjoyed Black Dawn far more, and feel it was a much better made film.
To think that this guy used to be one of my heroes!
posted on 18 Jun 2009Like many of the other reviewers here, I've been a fan of Steven Seagal's since Above the Law came out in the late 80's. I've enjoyed most of his American made films right up to Half Past Dead and Exit Wounds. When Seagal severed his relationship with long-time production partner, Jules Nasso, and then Warner Brothers ended its relationship with our martial arts hero, the quality of Seagal's movies went downhill rather quickly as did his salary. He dropped from making sixteen million a movie to a little over two million a picture. In other words, to keep up his high standards of living, he now has to do four-to-five movies a year just to equal what he used to make on one Warner Brothers' picture. Part of this is due to the increase in age (he's now 55) and weight (at least eighty-to-a-hundred pounds overweight for his height of 6' 4") and his inability to do the fighting scenes that made him famous almost twenty years ago. Add all of the above to bad directing, terrible scripts, and poor photography, and you have an actor who's barely hanging on to his career. I have to also say that Seagal isn't the only actor who's had to resort to making films almost entirely in Europe. Wesley Snipes has found himself in the same boat (though he could be avoiding the IRS) and so has Sylvester Stallone (Sly, however, is making a comeback with Rocky Balboa and a fourth "Rambo" film due out this summer). And, like many of the other people who've reviewed Attack Force, I, too, keep hoping for a really good "Seagal" film that will display his talents as they used to be in his earlier movies. Unfortunately, unlike the other reviewers, I didn't just buy Attack Force, I also purchased Today You Die at the same time. I should've read the reviews first, but I didn't, and now I'm stuck with two clunkers. Stupid me!!!
Attack Force has Steven Seagal playing Marshall Lawson, the commander of a strike-force team, somewhat like Delta Force. At the beginning of the movie, Lawson's team is almost completely wiped out at a night meeting. Then, a little later, three of his remaining soldiers are murdered in their hotel room by a psycho bitch high on a new type of drug that has turned her into a killing machine with abnormal strength and reflexes, not to mention a strange pupil dilation that causes her eyes to look like those of a werewolf. Now, as it turns out, this new drug is being developed by the United States to create a superior fighting soldier. Because of Lawson's involvement due to the death of his men, certain members of the government decide to have him eliminated so that the cat isn't let out of the bag, but it's now too late. More people have been infected with the drug than first realized and the government has to put them down before a mass epidemic of murder starts taking place in the French countryside. Lawson is the only man who can do it, so he's chosen to lead a new strike force. I think this kind of sums up the plot. I'm not entirely sure because I was somewhat confused throughout the movie. I didn't always know who the good guys were and who the bad guys were. Example: Was the French detective a good or bad guy? I don't know. I suspect that this was a plot device designed to keep the viewer on his toes so that he wouldn't fall asleep due to movie-induced boredom. .
I'm now trying to think of something good to say about the movie, but nothing comes to mind except that the women in the film looked beautiful and deadly. Steven Seagal likes to surround himself with beautiful women in his movies, and I don't blame him. After all, he was one of the producers on this film. I wonder if he pulled another "Jenny McCarthy" with them and made each potential female star take off her blouse so that he could check out her talent as an actress. Oh, here's the big standout about the movie. Mr. Seagal's voice was dubbed over dozens of times during the film. Like one of the other critics, I originally thought something was wrong with my DVD and checked the "Language" section on the menu. Nothing wrong there. The only thing I can think of is that after the movie was completed, the director discovered that Seagal's voice didn't come through in every scene and so it had to be dubbed in certain places. Also, because the drug-induced villains moved so fast and looked so strange, I thought at first that maybe Attack Force was a horror movie. I mean a French undercover cop would be faced with a killer-crazed woman with weird eyes. He'd turn around to run away and then she'd be standing in that direction, waiting for him. I don't know of any drug that can make a person move with the speed of light. Not only could these people move fast, but they also had super human strength. They could knock a person through three walls instead of just one. That's one hard punch. Even Bruce Lee couldn't do that! I guess the victims had super human strength, too, because they'd get right back up and try to defend themselves against these killing machines. If I got knocked through three walls, I'd still be lying there unconscious, or else I'd play like I was unconscious so I wouldn't get killed. The movie was filmed almost entirely at night, which made the action extremely hard to follow. Maybe that was for the best. Steven Seagal does very little fighting in the movie till the very end and then it's against a beautiful babe in leather shorts. I wish I could make a living doing that! By the way, at the end when the new strike force goes after these voracious killers, each member is picked off one by one just like in the usual "teen-murder" flicks. Rather than sticking close together, the strike force makes the mistake of letting each other out of sight for a few moments, thereby enabling the enemy to kill them. The only one who acts with any common sense is Seagal's sidekick, Na-boo, who stays glued to him like a new wife, while keeping a sharp eye out for anyone trying to sneak up behind them. That was kind of funny to watch. I guess this is the best that we can now expect from Steven Seagal. He'll be sixty in a few years and doing wine commercials like the late Orson Wells. I certainly don't anticipate his future movies getting any better. I feel like everyone else in that I should've rented this film, instead of buying the damn thing. Of course, I bought two clunkers, instead of one, so I've really learned my lesson this time around. I'm now marking Steven Seagal (7th Degree Black Belt in Aikido, guitar player, director, producer, writer, former Tibetan monk in a previous lifetime, former husband of Kelly Le Brock, former C.I.A. operative, and who knows what else) off of my to-buy list. Tomo aregato, Sensei Seagal.
wow Steven has sunk to a new low even lower than Submerged
posted on 07 Jun 2009Okay like most Steven Seagal fans I know I not going expect a masterpiece every time he makes a film but I do expect the film to at least have some sorter budget. The main problem with the copy I watched was the terrible over dubbing I know that in some films this has to be done and I accept that but when they overdub with a totally different actors voice and keep doing this thru out the film it does take the magic of overdubbing away. Also the sets seem to be built with no care as in one scene the sliding glass top in a top secret lab has a massive crack going thru it. I was truly disappointed with this film and only hope Stevens next project will be more finished off before sending the film out for buying/renting. The story of this film had me wondering if I was watching a sci-fi film or not some parts seemed alien like but they never fully explained what was going on I found it very confusing.
Simply stunned!
posted on 07 Jun 2009I've seen a lot of Seagal movies, and while most aren't great, or even good, this steamy pile lowered the bar for bad movies. The plot: not sure really. Something about a drug that makes you all crazy and strong or something. Who are the good guys and bad guys? Hard to tell. Most of the movie is cut scenes going back and forth between people in darkly lit rooms complaining about how good Seagals character "Mashall" is.Acting: Blows.Voice Dubbing ,,,,,, What was with the horrible voice overdubbing?! Could they of found anyone who sounded any less like Seagal? May as well had Cheech or Chong doing the voice overs, might of at least been entertaining then. This movie is boring, and completely stupid. Avoid it at all costs!!!!
I miss the old Seagal
posted on 01 Jun 2009I'm so confused. I've been a huge Seagal fan for 25 years. I've seen all of his films, and many of those dozens of times. I can only describe this film as "bizarre." Steven Seagal shares screenplay writing and producing credits on this film, but I have a really tough time believing he would choose to dub over his own voice for so many of his lines, with a thin, whiny imposter's voice no less. What I also don't get is, if they had to dub SOME of his lines, why does his own voice appear on the rest of them? I expect Seagal to age like the rest of us. But the Seagal in this movie barely exudes a fraction of the same swagger, confidence, bravado, charm, and sex-appeal he so easily showed us in ALL of his previous movies. What I found myself missing most of all was his cocky, self-assured attitude and his bad-ass sneer that so easily shifts into that adorable grin. Where is that in-your-face attitude and charm that made him such a huge star??? I hope that this film is not an indication of what Seagal has left to offer us - if so, his lifelong fans will have to concede that the Seagal we all knew and loved is gone.
Steven Segal should be ASHAMED
posted on 30 May 2009I am a big Steven Segal fan. I also know that most of his movies can be bad in some way, but the action is always good, the story lines are simple and you can count on Steven Segal using his own voice.Steven Segal should be ashamed of this movie. The story line does not make sense, bad voice overs, the action sequences don't come together and you will never know what is going on.There are some voice overs for Steve Segal that are not even his own voice.I have lost total respect for Steven Segal after trying to watch this movie. This movie is bad, bad, bad, and bad. Don't even bother to rent it.
Best movie of the year!
posted on 25 May 2009When I went to rent this gem, I was joking with a friend that we should ask the girl at the counter if she thought this one was good.
To my surprise she was totally excited and said she thinks Segal is so hot, and that she is glad he lost weight for the amazing new movie.
She was obviously not a true fan because when I asked her if she saw him on the Mojo Priest Tour she had no clue.
Regardless, I popped this bad boy in and was blown away.
The cover art was a photoshop, Seagal was still pushing 300lbs, so he is still a beast.
Half the movie was over dubbed, I went back to check to see if I selected english overdub in the menu. No sir, this must be a new trend in movie making, to lose your audio tracks or rather not be able to use them, and overdub actors voices with different voices through out the movie.
The fighting as mentioned before has Seagal, slapping away at his foes, which totally turned me on. The story was amazing, a drug that mutates, people into savage killers, yet leaves them civilized at the same time.
The dirt bike scene from the beginning was my favorite, they used the dirt bike sound effects from Grand Theft Auto then a helicopter blew it up with missiles that looked a lot like black jacks exploding.
Overall, the first 15 minutes summed it up.
AWESOME. Don't rent this movie buy it, keep them making this movies please.
A Masterpiece in its own way
posted on 19 May 2009Seagal has an attentive audience of three types. 1.) Those with the proclivity of wanting to dislike whatever he does and seeing any new release of his as simply another opportunity to lambast his work with insults. 2.) Those who keep expecting him to reclaim his glory of days of his "Under Siege" period and to make films of the same caliber, and thus being perpetually dissappointed. 3.) Those who, as one reviewer aptly put it, are "extremely forgiving and undemanding" fans of Seagal, and enjoy all his films, including the DTV films, including this one. I would place myself in the latter group. I did not rent this film, I bought it, and I will continue to buy his films, and I am not dissappointed. Of course, if I am going to rate his work with a standard used for determining academy award potential, then this film would be rightfully considered a terrible film. But, that is not what he, nor the director had in mind, and in actuality, in it's own right, this is quite a good film. Yes, I will agree that the two major flaws are the voice overdubbing, and the unresolved ending. Personally, the former flaw is an irritant, and somewhat amusing, but doesn't cancel out the redeeming qualites of the film which are an excellent supporting cast, with very capable and commanding female leads, an effective musical score, interesting locations, entertaining action sequences, etc. Not to mention an interesting ambiance to the film which is sort of a combination of Alias, Underworld, and Executive Decision combined. It is a quasi-horror film, which is sort of a re-invention for Seagal. Seagal speaks in a whisper and doesn't take the time to do re-dubs, and so be it. He has gained weight, and the best of them do. He is not known for his acting, nor do I expect him to be. Despite all that, he still has a presence that is formidable, entertaining, and albiet somewhat puzzling, but still transmutes and transcends all these flaws that so many people like to desperately attack. His worst film, in my opinion is still "Today You Die", and his best, is perhaps "Into the Sun." This film, "Attack Force", is somewhere between those two. Either watch it and hate it, but my question is, why do you insist on watching it? Or, watch it and be disappointed because it is not "Above the Law". Or, watch it with a forgiving and undemanding spirit, don't compare it to a Martin Scorcese film, and perhaps admit that it was not that bad. Yes, I hope his films improve. No doubt. But if they remain just like this one, I will continue to watch them, and appreciate what he has to offer.
This film was his worst ever!
posted on 12 May 2009I am truly beginning to believe that Seagal is on a mission to see how crappy his films could become. This particular movie was a complete and utter waste of time to see.My first complaint was the cover of the DVD where they have doctored his pic and made him look slimmer and younger when in the film he looks like crap.He has his big pot belly and double chin going for him and the most miserable and bored look on his face. The whole plot was ridiculous to begin with and drawn out way too long. The whole film was leading up to the finale where Seagal and his team had to take on a bunch of people under the influence of a top secret military chemical adrenaline enhancer. There was way too much useless dialogue and not to mention the ridiculous and constant dubbing of Seagals voice even in the middle of a statement. The dubbed voice sounded like a man with a frog in his throat and was quite comical. The fight scenes in the film were horrible.Half the time when Seagal fought you could not even see what was going on.There would be tight shots of him flapping his arms at the camera and then the person flying through a wall or something. It was reminiscent of the old Kung Fu series on television. They used way too much slow motion for the fight scenes.I believe this is Seagals worst film to date and I am glad I did not purchase this film or I would have been very upset since I am a huge fan of Seagal the Aikidoist. The action star is quickly fading away and seems to be getting worse with every performance.
Worst of the worst
posted on 30 Apr 2009I'm a Seagal fan. Love most of his work. But this one was the absolute worst movie I've seen him do. It's strange because Seagal's direct-to-video productions are sometimes really good "Into the Sun" and sometimes pretty bad, like "Today You Die", but "Attack Force" was by far the WORST OF THE WORST.First of all, in many parts of the film, his voice is DUBBED! That's right! The sound guy must have screwed up, because they dubbed someone else's voice (whose gravelly baritone is so obviously NOT Seagal's breathy smoothness). Secondly, the story was preposterous: Seagal's secret "Attack Force" is undermined by this "more" secret chemical weapon Project "Majestic" which, if the chemical is ingested, turns a person into a killing machine. But it was so outlandish, because it was like Seagal and his team were fighting Aliens with superpowers--they can even dodge bullets (in one scene). Look at how this movie is categorized: Action/Horror/Sci-Fi. That's all you need to know--it's not Seagal's best, but his WORST.I was so bored. Avoid this one.
Shame!
posted on 24 Apr 2009This was the worst film I ever saw. I have never seen anything like it. Steven Seagal had some nice, entertaining films, but "Attack Force" is NOT one of them. The story of Attack Force is very weak, actually there is no plot at all (except the good-guy kills bad guys routine). Also, the theme of the movie, CTX, a new drug, is vaguely linked with a sci-fi atmosphere (flashing eyes!) which is very disturbing and destroys all credibility. As a viewer, I did not feel the least involved with the characters since they are all very flat and dull. In addition, the film is full of flaws and goofs. Statues made of concrete move in the wind (i swear!), a chest wound suddenly switches place during a sequence and the dubbing is awful. The biggest problem of this film however is that it is very boring. Nothing happens in the movie and when something does, you ask yourself why. Some parts of the movie make no sense at all. A very strong WTF at certain points. Even the Seagal-fighting scenes (only one at the end!) are filmed poorly and uncreatively. What a shame!
Terrible...just plain terrible
posted on 22 Apr 2009Now, as much as i like Steven Seagal, it's getting increasingly harder to continue so (and i'll wager this movie converts no new fans either?) I don't know where to start?......let's see.....the movie makes little (or no) sense. Now i'm fully aware this movies central plot has been altered, but the end result is totally confusing, and doesn't require all the editing and re-dubbing that has eventually gone into it. The look of the movie is fine (for a rumoured $12m budget) and near the end, certain scenes give an impression of what could have been, but too much filler (and i do meant T O O much filler) is wasted on the first 60 mins of the movie. Seagal is his usual stoic self (although fight scenes are kept to a minimum) and it's not that any other performances are bad, just the manner of the finished (edited) product. The dubbing is truly horrendous (with Seagal sounding like Peter Falk, in some scenes) made all the more phoney, for only being partially dubbed throughout whole sentences. It's also apparent that Seagal is mouthing the actual dialogue, that is being dubbed anyhow.....which makes me ask.....why? Why are these companies not talking a stand, if Seagal isn't speaking loud enough. I think these companies are too soft with him. Sure you respect an actor, even fear him.....but when he won't even speak properly, do his fightscenes or body shots....then it's time for some tough love. Not that i reckon, his next movie could be worse, but i'll catch a screener first, and if it's no better......i won't be buying it. Which is a first for me....because i'm a huge Seagal fan.....but it's becoming a one way relationship, if Seagal thinks a few poorly dubbed scenes are ample reward for my (nearly) 20 years loyalty......he can think again.Easily Seagas worst movie3 out of 10

He can barely talk for himself now!
posted on 20 Aug 2009This movie was heavily marred by the presence of Steven Seagal. Or as I should say Steven So-dull! Like before Seagal is either too good or too stupid to re-dub his own lines, leaving someone to impersonate his voice for the shots where the sound needed to be looped. A few films before this was he has done this too, but I don't think to this extent! To be honest the film looks pretty good, the script could use some work but parts of this film looked like a real movie! Of course, all told, this film is pretty bad.It would have been much better without Seagal who has become a cartoon of himself. Don't bother. Anything over a buck for this one is too much! I honestly think this is the last time for me and a Seagal film. What's taken me so long to realize this?!
