This sucks!

posted on 30 Aug 2009

I downloaded this movie knowing that it would suck, and guess what? It did. Was I laughing? No! This was dookie! First of all, there's a male cow with an udder. WTF? It's crazy I know! The surfer pizza delivery boy is as retarded as can be! He's that alien from Fairly Oddparents, and he sucks so hard! "Blah blah blah omg i found a arm wtf" I was hoping that that character would get hit by a bus. And the farmer is a moronic turd! I bet Glenn Beck's smarter than this guy. WTF we got animals walkin' around and stuff, and the retarded farmer don't even notice. What a ballsack. Seriously. So, anyway, do not buy this $hit! Do not waste your money, please!

Hey Lady - Get Over it!

To the lady who wrote the first review, get over it! This is a movie, one with talking animals, and you are worried about the udderly silliest things. So what? Did you want to see the big male organs on the male cows? I think that is why there is an udder on all the cows, to avoid this uncomfortable situation. Or maybe it was just something silly to do, at any rate if you had to have a heart to heart with your kids about male and female animals, I am sorry for them. They need parents who can relax a bit.The film is OK. My two boys liked it and I did too. It is not a classic, but a good film. Overall a barnyard remake of Lion King with a lot of the same plot elements. Kevin James character is great and there is a lot of good humor for much of the film.

Good for Kids and their Parents.

So many people bash this movie for everything from the "male cows with utters" to the fighting scene with Ben and the Coyotes. Give it a rest people. The utter thing is a joke, meant for laughs and not anatomical correctness. Most of your children probably didn't notice unless you pointed it out.And the violence in the movie is just as violent -if not less- then the video games kids play today. If you want some good laughs, then check this film out. The party scenes are great. The jokes are clean enough for children, yet funny enough for adults.

Cute, predictable, vapid, and a lot of fun...

Anyone seeking logic in a cartoon feature need not see this film; it's silly, pointless, and generally very enjoyable. It's genuinely funny in spots, and surprised me in others. Yeah, it's a story that's been done a billion times, but the value is in the details. Keep an eye out for the fishing sequence - reminded me of when I was a kid. There were a large number of obvious sight gags that still worked, jokes you expected that never materialized, and inexplicable nuggets of oddness galore. I recommend this movie for anyone with younger grade-school age kids, because my nieces loved it. Lots of visual silliness, easily digested morality (without getting either overtly religious or didactic), and music. Then, there's Wild Mike...

Fun time - not supposed to be documentary accurate!

OK, first of all, I love how many other reviewers here cannot get past the fact that the male characters are cows with udders, but they readily accept the fact that they talk, walk upright, grasp with their hooves, and so on. It's a STORY, not an educational film. I explained to my kids (5, 7, 9) that real cows are female and have udders, and real bulls are male and do not have udders. No mental problems or confusion - they get it.It was entertaining, with great voice talent, a good lesson, and a nice new variation on modern computer animation. There are some things that are cartoonish (shapes of animals and things), and other things that are amazingly realistic (sky/clouds, hair/fur, fire). It was an intriguing mix, in my opinion. All three of my children and my 12 year-old nephew loved the movie. There was humor on their level, jokes that adults could relate to, and a somewhat predictable but satisfying storyline.I consider movies "worth seeing in the theater" OR "wait and watch at home." They have to have something special to pay $60 for the family to see, without the ability to pause, no guarantee of good seats, noisy neighbors, etc etc. I have a soft spot for animated features, and I think the special factor of going to the theater makes it worth taking the kids to this one.

Don't knock this movie before seeing it...

I have to admit, I wasn't impressed with the commercials at first, I thought it was going to be another kids movie that would put me to sleep half way through. I was totally wrong. I took my 8 yr. old daughter and we laughed ourselves silly it was so funny! OK, the daddy cow dying in the beginning is sad enough to silence the entire audience, and it did bring a tear to my eye, but they didn't dwell on it and I thought his passing was acknowledged well in the movie. After you get through the sad part, and the scary looking coyotes that attack, the rest is hilarious! In my opinion, I think the attacking coyotes is a little much for under 4. But overall, I thought it was one of the best kids movies I've seen in awhile and I can't wait to buy the DVD. I think it's a movie you could watch a few times and see something different each time, there's just so much going on around the scenes. A must see, for the whole family!

Barnyard: Script should have been recycled into toilet paper.

Out of all the crap I've had to endure being a parent, by far the worst is the low-brow junk that's passed off as "children's entertainment." There are the movies that come into this house that are so bad and dreadful that I can't help but feel as if those who made the crap personally insulted my family.I only have 24 hours to my day, and my kids aren't going to be little forever, so what time I do have with them is precious. This movie feels like someone stole some of that precious time while at the same time trying to pick the scabs on my eyelids. No, really - it's that bad. Those who think that it isn't (or say so here, at least) are incredibly suspect. Those of you who have this thundering piece of garbage high marks are all on notice, I'm calling you out as studio shills. The worst part of this movie had to be by far the obvious knock-off of other people's work, much of this felt as if this was an over-seas rip-off Gary Larson's "Far Side," and I wouldn't doubt that some of his people are talking to Nickelodeon's people...Or, is it the bulls in this movie having no horns and have utters...The "male" bovines having udders was explained in the October 2006 issue of Nickelodeon's official magazine, "Nick Magazine". In the letters page, one reader asked about the anatomically-incorrect cows(bovine) and whether or not it was intentional or not, and the magazine explained that the movie's director "thought it would be funny for the male cows(bulls) to have udders".Know what? It's NOT funny. It's confusing, distracting and stupid. It's actually insulting to the audiences intelligence. Imagine George Lucas putting breast implants on Stormtroopers. There's so much about this movie to hate, whether it's a kids cartoon trying to be edgy for adults, the demonic and down-right frightening coyotes, or the plot formula stolen from other movies, or that this had a great cast with a script that should have recycled into toilet paper.

One of the best animated movies

posted on 07 Jul 2009

I thought this was one of the best animated movies I have seen yet. There is humor in it that makes it enjoyable for anyone over the age of 10. The best character I find in the movie is that of Pip the mouse. His one liners come at the perfect times. Watching Otis grow up after Ben passes is a really good lesson for anyone younger then 10.This is how I get a rating of 8 out of ten. It is a good movie for the young ones as they learn to stand up for each other. It also teaches them to stand up for what they believe in. Though it does drop down a couple of points in that there are a few scenes that kids will fight frightening. For the older crowd, it is a laugh a minute. It is a great movie to watch over and over again.

Not terrible

I read the reviews before going to see the movie and I'm sorry I did. True, this is no Disney or Pixar quality film, but it isn't the worst I've ever seen. This is plenty entertaining for a "kid crowd". The only problem I have with this film (and many other films that claim to be "great for the whole family")is that writers and producers constantly feel like they have to throw in subtle adult humor to appeal to parents. So be prepared for the crude humor. Still, my 5 year old daughter and 8 year nephew had a good time.By the way, I don't understand why people would criticize the male cows having udders. Sure, male cows (bulls) don't have udders. (SPOILER?, maybe not) But neither can they drive cars, walk upright, "boy tip", talk, open doors, order pizza .... etc. It is an animated film people!

Barnyard - Nice Story, Overall Good Experience

posted on 13 Jun 2009

My wife and I enjoyed a "matinee date" to see "Barnyard." The film, overall, did not disappoint. The voice talent was impressive - a very good collection of actors.Animation was also impressive - fun. Scripting was pretty good: funny, tender, scary. A good time was had by all in the auditorium today (we were the only adults at the movie without children).Only two negative criticisms, both specific to the drawing of animals: 1) Most of the cows are male, but they all had udders. Now, I am no farmer or livestock expert - but, I thought only female cows had udders (ergo, mammary glands).2) Flying chickens? Once again, farming is not my forte, but when did chickens acquire the ability to fly? Beyond these two oddities, my wife and I enjoyed the video trip to escape life for an hour and a half. You will also enjoy the film, if you appreciate animation and humor - oh, and you MUST have a heart! Go and Enjoy !

Well, it ain't "Animal Farm"...

posted on 11 Jun 2009

This guilty pleasure could stand a little more pleasure and a little less guilt.Ben (Sam Elliot), a male cow (hang on, I'll get to that), has devoted everything to protecting the farm he calls home from threats outside the fence, prime among them being Dag the Coyote (David Koechner). All the animals trust him, since he has proved himself repeatedly, but the only one in line to take up the mantle from Ben is Otis (Kevin James), the very image of a party animal. This is merely one of those anarchic films of which we probably have memories that are too positive. "Animal House", "Bachelor Party", "Meatballs", "Caddyshack", the list goes on. This one just happens to be animated, and put frankly, it's no less fun. The film shines when the stunts are pulled, and while the party's on. It has the patented Steve Oedekerk look and feel, sporting the same stark colors and bouncy character design seen in "Jimmy Neutron". Everything, right down to the environments, seems to have been created for comedy. Of course, this is where the project somewhat falls in upon itself. Things rather sour when any sort of drama is attempted, damaging the execution of a capable enough script. It's hard to accept a tender moment from characters who have just engaged in hill-surfing, chicken-launching, human-taunting, or "boy tipping". The misplaced anatomy is a minor consideration compared to narrative misfire, albeit well-cast, comical misfire. Bottom line, it's not about story or heart, and you won't receive any spiritual or intellectual advancement, but that didn't stop you from watching the like of the aforementioned films. It's mindless fun, and that's all there is to be expected.

A True Laugh-Out-Loud Movie..With Some Tender Moments

posted on 05 Jun 2009

I was debating back and forth on whether or not i should see this one. So glad i did! The movie was hilarious! The whole theatre was cracking up laughing. Even after the movie was over, you heard people talking about how funny it was and going over their favorite parts. I'll definitely check it out again. I also noticed that people were repeating the funny parts DURING the movie.I really appreciated the humor in this one. It's not like the type of humor you may find in a Pixar animated film, so please don't have that kind of expectation when going to see this movie. and i have to be honest here, it was one of the funniest movies i have seen this year...It was just so nutty and FUN! So, I encourage all to try this movie out. There were also a few tender heartfelt moments that deal with death and birth, and I thought they were handled rather nicely.A very entertaining film! one of the funniest scenes was when that fat rat came on stage and started singing that Shaggy song "Mr. Boombastic"..."I'm Mr. Boombastic say me fantastic"...lol and the scene where the farmer discovers what his barnyard animals have been up to. The way the animals deal with that little problem was truly hysterical.everyone in the theatre just about died from laughing so hard...!!

Harmless fun

Barnyard is an animated movie about life on a farm. It may not be as good as many other animations but overall I think that this movie was not a great disappointment. The animation is less detailed and more comic and cartoony but is still reasonably enjoyable. It has some good old slapstick violence and some hilarious creatures in. I agree that it should not be ranked along side Finding Nemo or The Incredibles however it does have some hilariously funny moments. This movie stars Kevin James (King of Queens) and Courtney Cox (the woman we all know from "Friends"). It also has some performances from Danny Glover and Sam Elliot.Overall, if you are looking for a mind blowing animated movie jam packed full of hilarity then this movie probably isn't what you are looking for but if you are just looking for a decent laugh then this is worth your while.-7/10

I could not get into this movie at all. Bulls, boy cows for you idiots who did the animation, do not have udders. So, being distracted by the failure to understand bovine anatomy by all associated with this movie, I had to just turn it off. I found it to be just too violent for my granddaughters - we moved on to something entertaining.Udderly awful.Plot is a Lion King rip off.Voice talent is good.Animation OK.Had a hard time figuring out what some of the animals were supposed to be.

This is SO bad...

posted on 12 Apr 2009

Enough has been said about the parallels with the Lion King, Gary Larson and the 'male cows' thing. Also the gratuitous violence, larceny and drunkenness. I'm not going there. Just take that as read. There are NO redeeming moments. There is so little of a plot, you will miss it in the poor parodies of other films. The musical numbers are not that good... no.I was SHOCKED that Sam Elliott put his name to this... Shocked. And Danny Glover. What were they thinking? As for Kevin James? Meh! He's not that great an actor anyway, this is a perfect vehicle for him. This film is instantly forgettable - you'll never get these 90 minutes back...And yes, I did sit through it to the end - otherwise I couldn't be so scathing. I fell asleep near the start and had to rewind to where I nodded off... I'll never get those 10 minutes back either...Avoid!

complaining about male udders...come on, lets get a grip folks

posted on 08 Apr 2009

so, to the folks who are confused and upset that the male cows have udders, would you prefer a couple of huge bull-things hanging down there? And on that..... and i think back to a comment by Gary Larson who did the far side.... so it's NOT OK for a male cow to have an udder, however, the fact they talk, dance, drink, party, and play golf is OK??? Let's get a grip folks, it was a great movie, plain and simple. I took my four year old son, and he loved it, and I have to say, i got a good number of laughs out of it too. I think the animation was great, the characters were super, and although yes, ill agree that the sappy scenes were a little much, it was overall a super movie. I highly recommend it, and again, male udders, I had no problem with..... and if its something you have an issue with, go watch a movie where a real cow does real cow things. I think you'll be bored out of your skull and asking for your money back. Heck even twister had a flying cow, and I'm pretty sure that was make believe too, cause I've never seen a cow fly before, not even the one who jumped over the moon. Perhaps we should stop telling that nursery rhyme too.

A good movie for five year old but for me it was a tasteless kids movie with Lion King's story and transsexual cows. Some of the worse animation i have seen. The animals were terrible and annoying. Really this is not to be seen.Steve Oedekerk can you do anything? Other then make short films about thumbs. Well you couldn't make this film right. But you did have something to do with Bruce Almighty and Ace Ventura. But that is all you have done that is good in my book.I don't understand why celebrities lend there voices to such terrible movies. I would expect it from Kevin James(i am not his biggest fan) but i wouldn't expect it from Courteney Cox(who i know from Friends). I was disappointed. The voice acting was good but the bad animation ruined it.I don't recommend it ever. A disappointment.2/10

this isn't Richard betts its his daughter but i got permission don't worry!!!!!! i thought the movie was really entertaining i especially loved pip the mouse but all the other characters were very good, some of the jokes were really funny and they don't just entertain children because my mum found herself laughing at the jokes (i don't know whether its because she has a very strange sense of humour but all the same)i think that the idea was very good because i always find myself wondering what do the animals get up to when the farmers have their backs turned and the film was the perfect answer, sure its not true well maybe it is....... but its a nice idea to have in your head. i loved the movie because it includes thing you wouldn't expect to see cows doing IE joy riding and have the big party in a barn! its not a waste of time or money so go see it!

My 5 yr old Granddaughter, my Wife, & I, enjoyed the movie

As I think that children retain quite a bit of what they see, and relate, what they see on TV/Movies, as REALITY, the "udders" on the Bulls, was the most unsettling part of the presentation. How many children NOW think that a MALE cow (bull) has udders, like a female? They should have made the Bulls with NOTHING, as with cartoon male animals, in the past.Overall, it's an enjoyable movie, and I would recommend it for children, as long as it's pointed out, to the child, that "Boy" cows are called Bulls, and do not have udders; that only the "Girl" cows have them. Our kids don't need to be more confused than they already are, about "identity".

A Rock-N-Roll Hoot of an animated film

posted on 13 Mar 2009

I enjoyed the juxtaposition of human and animal traits in this movie immensely. To me, this was just a continuation of the fun that Gary Larson shared with his "Far Side". As I remember, he took a lot of arrows for his offbeat humor then, as this movie does now. All I can say is LIGHTEN UP! Let yourself have some fun.The voice choices were superb, the animation was just right for the over-the-top nature of the story, and the poignancy of the relationships, disarming.I think that what is lacking in a lot of films these days is a Holstein bull(cow?) playing a homemade guitar, and singing Tom Petty's "I won't back down". Federico Fellini meets Clint Eastwood. As bad as I hate to say it, it WAS a film for the whole family, and that includes the pets.
