One word.....Trey Parker and Matt Stone

posted on 19 Aug 2009

Although, this movie only grossed 7 million [very disappointing] it is very, very, very funny. Matt and Trey definately have talent and it shows onscreen. (i.e. see orgazmo) I'm sure 98.9% of Americans disagree with that statement, but everything about BASEketball is hiliarious due to the fact that it made me laugh like no other film I had ever watched. Everyone who hasnt seen it should at least just give it a chance and not just blow it off cause they only know Trey Parker and Matt Stone as those goofy creators of South Park.

This movie came out at about the same time as "There's Something About Mary" and didn't do well at the box office but for my money, it nearly matches that film for sheer, shameless belly laughs. Trey Parker and Matt Stone (the creators of "South Park") are a unique and very funny duo....they're not great actors, but they're not asked to be. One gets the sense that they are basically playing themselves and their repartee and comic timing are right on the money. Combine that with a supporting cast of many familiar faces and a script that takes pot-shots at our nation's obsession with and the vast commercialization of sports and you have the makings of a comedy classic. Yes, it's tasteless and juvenile....but go with the spirit of it and you'll be very entertained. I give it 3 *** stars out of 4.

This movie is one of my favorites for many reasons including the ability of Trey Parker and Matt Stone to tackle any subject and present it in such a juvenile way that you can't help but laugh and say "it's true." It's only made better by the cameos in this movie made by big name stars like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Reggie Jackson, Bob Costas, Al Michaels, the list goes on and on. There is absolutely no down time in this movie. The is no scene that is strictly serious. Every scene has humor in it and it's just a decision of whether or not you appreciate the sense of humor from the creators of South Park. If you are in to foul language and the mockery of inspirational sports films this movie is for you.

This is a terrific story of two friends and their struggle as they go from losers to athletes on the national level within a few years. This movie made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me not hate Ernest Borgnine as much. This may not be Trey & Matt's best movie, but it definately is a heart-warming and compelling tragic story or whatever.

Expecting stupid, got funny

A funnier movie than I would have guessed in a thousand years. Don't much care for SouthPark, but must admit, loved the Airplane! movies. Parker and Stone are a hilarious pair and a good match for Zucker's humour. One of the best parts is Al Michaels and Bob Costas as, of course, the commentators for professional baseketball games. Michaels delivers his lines like he has lived them (scary thought!). Well worth the time and money.

One of the Funniest Movies I've Seen

Trey Parker & Matt Stone did a great job of showing us just how ridiculous the sports industry has become. Seeing that the sports announcers could laugh at themselves was a good touch. For those of us who love South Park, this was a great look into the minds of these two funny men. I would recommend this movie to any one with a sense of humor.

One of the funniest movies ever!!!

This is one of the most quoteable movies I have ever seen. It's one of those movies you see with some friends and 5 years later you are still ripping off lines from. It is over the top and kinda immature but it is hillarious. You just have to sit back and not think too much. The dvd doesn't really have any worthy special features, but if you are a big Trey & Matt fan, or a South Park fan give it a whirl. You just might like it.

TOTALLY TOTALLY AWFUL!!!

I saw this when it came out, watched it once--but not all the way through and then got rid of it. It was SO very tacky. It was very, very low budget. Poor acting. Ignorant.

These guys need to stay behind the scenes and do South Park. Their over-the-edge humor and voices are more histerical than their acting.

Stay away from this film. (gag) And watch South Park instead.

Serious mistake of a great man!

This movie is like the worst comedy I have ever seen. All jokes here are really stupid, not original - used lots of times in other not very good films. I think this work could be appreciated by me like... hmm... ten years ago, at age of 12 - I used to like flat jokes around that time. The main disappointment in BASEketball is watching great man like Trey Parker: creator of the really fantastic, full of good jokes, show "South Park", also writer/director/leading actor of funny "Orgazmo". What did move this talented person to take part in a piece of garbage? He was already famous at that time, and I am REALLY sure he was and is not fond of the script. I think this could be a good scenario for the X-files - "Abduction of Trey Parker".

Witty and comical in ways no one has ever attempted!!!

Trey Parker and Matt Stone push the limits of normal comedy beyond obsurdity and back then beyond where they were before. With great cameo appearances by that guy from "Unsolved Mysteries" and major stars in minor roles like Jenny McCarthy. This movies outrageous plot and fantasy with the creative genius of director David Zuckerman, will have you laughing almost all the way through. You will have to see it two, three, maybe four times to catch all of the wit and hilarity that this movie has to offer.

An unfairly maligned classic

I have never, ever laughed so hard in a movie theater as when I went to see this movie, and my friends that I went with were laughing just as hard. Come to think of it, everyone I've known who's seen this film has enjoyed it, although I'll admit that most of those with whom I associate share my somewhat warped sense of humor. Anyway, on to the movie. BASEketball works so well for a simple reason: beneath all the sight gags, sex jokes, pop-culture references, and celebrity cameos (all of which are funny), it is a surprisingly perceptive look at sports in American society. From the opening montage, it is clear that BASEketball is premised upon the commercialization (and some would say corruption) of American sports, setting the stage for its redemption by the starry-eyed fans played by Parker and Stone. This examination of the place sports occupies in the hearts and minds of Americans is what allows BASEketball to transcend the limits of the usual sophomoric comedy fare. If you're a sports fan, and not above laughing at some admittedly juvenile humor, you will have no trouble enjoying this movie.

Laughter the whole way through it!

Most assuredly one of the more underappriciated comedy movies of recent times, BASEketball is hysterically funny despite it's occasional forays into more low brow humor. Not as vulgar as South Park or Orgasmo, it still holds with it the comedy genius of Trey and Matt, and the list of guest stars seems to be neverending. Even Mr. October himself, Reggie Jackson, has a cameo appearance. A good movie for a good laugh, and one of my personal favorites.

hideously funny

I really loved this movie, I don't believe I've ever seen anything and laughed so hard. I was sore for days. Don't expect a deep plot, but it's a comedy, and it made me laugh so much - 5 out of 5 stars. Don't heed the rotten reviews. Too bad 'There's Something About Mary' stole this one's thunder...

My favorite movie of all time

Now, I don't want to go on about specifics about production. That's lame. The commercial trailers had me hooked. When I finally saw this movie in the theatre (and they only kept it for 3 weeks) it was in the replay lot. I missed it in the main ones; but I did see it to my delight on the big screen (my friend and I were the only ones in the theatre that laughed when they kissed near the end and we're totally hetro)After that, I couldn't wait until it came out on vid so I could buy it. I waited far too long...When I finally was able to buy the VHS copy, I was extatic (sic).I still watch that same copy with people who have never seen it before and laugh every time they do. It's the only movie where I've kept count of how many times I've seen it. I'm not sorry to say I'm at 41. Call me pathetic if you want, but F*** you too!

Well...

Well...what can I say? Sure, I hate South Park. I never liked Trey Parker and Matt Stone. I hated the legions of fans that supported South Park. Well, the hatred for South Park hasn't changed, but I have found a new love for Trey and Matt. These guys are absolutely hysterical, especially Trey Parker, who had my sides splitting by the time he was listening to the song in the car. BASEketball is a great movie, and surprisingly hilarious. I figured it would be stupid. I was wrong. There was just something about the gags, characters, references and cameos that made me hoot for joy. Trey Parker, I think you rock, and I hope to see you in more films. You remind me of me, before the weight of the world crushed my spirits. SQUEAK!

HILARIOUS!!!

I saw this movie b/c I had nothing to do actually, at first I didn't want to see it b/c I thought it was stupid, but anyways, I started to see it and I totally loved it!!! It was so hilarious, the whole idea of the movie is original, and although the performances are not the best in the world, the actors are great in each role they play, especially Trey Parker. Of course sometimes the movie is kinda cheesy, but it's much, pretty much all the time. The dialogs are funny, and most of all the situations where the main characters get involved.
Anyways if you want to laugh a lot, and if you are not the type of person who gets offended by everything (language most of all, oh and some scenes....) then you must see this movie!!!

Humor Only a Prepubescent Boy Could Love...

posted on 18 Jan 2009

Okay, so I'm not a prepubescent boy. I'm a nearly thirty-year-old woman who was made to watch this ridiculous film quite against her will... And, damn it if I nearly peed my pants with laughter!

However, I do not recommend this to anyone who dislikes bathroom humor on principle. Though each joke is well-executed, each corny, melodramatic quip delivered with deliberately dewy-eyed sincerity, it is unapologetically juvenile, raunchy, and pretends to have no amount of redeeming value. But even its lack of values came as a surprise to me, for I can't help but give it more credit than it seems to give itself for having very strong underlying themes of maintaining integrity (believe it or not), and of course, friendship.

Bottom line - if you're looking for good clean fun, this is not for you; but if you're feeling a little off-color, goofy and in the mood for a guilty pleasure, this is a film that, at the least, will make you laugh in spite of yourself.

Funny In a Stupid Way

posted on 17 Jan 2009

God help you if you're expecting any kind of high-brow humor when renting BASEketball. A lot of it is fun and goofy, but a lot of it is also dumb and lame. At times, the humor is *too* stupid, and just plain annoying. Every one of the scenes without Matt and Trey suck, and you have to wonder how funny any of it would have been, if they had chosen not to participate at all.Thankfully, there are still a lot of funny parts in this dumb comedy. The drinking of the liposuctioned fat, the ridiculous music, the roadkill special, and "Squeak" were all great. I think there was enough funny stuff in this movie to recommend it, but consider yourself warned: parts of it are still pretty stupid (as if you would expect anything else?).

The funniest comedy in years!!!!!!
