You've got seven wishes. Choose carefully.
Meet the Devil. She's giving Elliott seven wishes. But not a chance in Hell.
Elliot Richards, a socially incompetent technical advisor working at a call-center, has had a crush on Alison Gardner for nearly four years. One evening, which already started particularly bad for Elliot, she ditches him. Elliot wishes for her to be in his life with all his heart - and is heard. An incredibly beautiful young lady addresses Elliot, and after introducing herself as the Devil, Lucifer, the Princess of Darkness, she offers him a deal: Seven wishes for him, his Soul for her. Quickly, Elliot is convinced and accepts. But every wish he gets fulfilled has massive disadvantages as well, and soon Elliot wants to get out of the contract. The only thing that matters to him now is being able to take his chances by himself.

Marketed comedy remake
posted on 01 Jul 2009One thing this movie has going for it is the fact that Brendan Fraser is actually quite funny. He really pulls off doing all those characters, which gives the movie a more fresh feel. Each time he is a different person, whereas in the original he was the same guy and only thought himself as somehow different. But other than that, this is just a poor remake of a great classic marketed for more laughs to make more money. Not really worth seeing except for Brendan Fraser. The original is still worth seeing though.
Has It's Moments!
posted on 25 Jun 2009(WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS) Both Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley give very good
performances in this movie about a man who gets 7 wishes from the Devil, but Fraser truly steals the show about a guy who thinks he's finally gotten his lucky break. His character, Elliot, truly tugs at my heart strings in the first part of the film, before he meets the Devil. This movie delivers only a few laughs, however, (a big one is when Elliot wishes to be President of the United States), and I would recommend it only if you are a Brendan Fraser fan. I would give it about 5/10.
This doesn't really work for me
posted on 11 Jun 2009Bedazzled is a strange film. It's based on an office nerd who suddenly has a couple of wishes to play with after being granted that power by the devil. The nerd is played by Brendan Fraser who delivers quite a good performance early on but as the wishes progress, the performances decline. Hurley plays the devil and is now where near as good as she wants can be. We see her in a string of tight outfits which seems to be the main attraction of this film for some people and as the film progresses, her voice and acting just becomes unbelievably annoying and poor. The film reaches its climax and the content just couldn't get any more cheesy. The script is predictable and all though the wish element is fun at first, you can see its just one long, pointless joke nearer the end as he becomes president of America and just the speed at which the later wishes are dealt with adds to the utter farce and stupidity of it all.I suggest you avoid this one.
I wish that everyone would see this movie!
posted on 28 May 2009I loved this movie, for many reasons! Elizabeth Hurley being the obvious reason, she is so sexy, and she just lights up the screen. She is one heck of an actress! Also I'm not a Brenden Frazier fan...at all, but he is perfect in this movie, he is so funny and plays the 7 different roles so well. It's done to perfection. This is a really fun movie, go see it and get ready to see an enjoyable film. I rate it 9 of 10!
Funny
posted on 16 May 2009I have seen the 1967 original before seeing this one and have to admit that I enjoyed this "loosely based" remake. Brendan Fraser was alright as Elliot (for some reason, he seems to play naive characters, whether it's a jungle man or a Mountie, as in some of the comedies he has starred in.) However, Elizabeth Hurley steals every scene as the "evil one." Although PG-13, the humor seems to be kinda raunchy and this ain't something parents want their little children to see by themselves. I would like to suggest of renting the original instead of this.
Wretched remake of a 60's comedy classic.
posted on 14 Apr 2009Why the likes of Ivan Reitman would want to capitalize on the success of a brilliantly done comedy from the sixties, written by Dudley Moore and Peter Cook and directed by Stanley Donen, defies description. Needless to say, his relatively unrelated version, featuring Brendan Fraser (in Dudley Do-Right mode) and Liz Hurley (in British bimbette fashion), reeks of adolescent humor and corny predictability. How low can you go?
Oh, that midsection!
posted on 12 Apr 2009'Bedazzled' is one of those little movies that starts off very well and ends pretty admirably too. Unfortunately it is the middle of the picture that ultimately makes the film fail. Not too badly, however. Still a 6 out of 10. Brendan Fraser sells his soul for what he thinks is happiness in the form of 7 wishes to the devil (Elizabeth Hurley). The film has some very juvenile humour in Brendan Fraser's portrayal of a star basketball player and sensitive sunset watching flake. The stereotypes of pro athletes and gays are pretty lame and the one wish he has where he is the president of the United States had the potential of being the best skit in the whole film but fell apart because it lasted about 1 minute. Too many uneven moments but a good turn overall by Fraser as the main character while Hurley, being one of the best looking women in the world, is pretty one dimensional as Satan.
Pleasantly surprised
posted on 10 Apr 2009I did not know if i should have bought this dvd, i like the story behind it but was not taken by Brendan Fraser in the Mummy and i feel that my cat can act better than Liz Hurley. To my surprise i enjoyed this film there are many funny moments the best when the workmates are involved. The basketball scenes were very funny, Fraser showed he is a capable actor and Hurley did not have to talk, just keep dressing up in the many 'turn on costumes' ( she still can't act). I reccomend buying this film just to cheer you up for a couple of hours and drool over Liz Hurley.
Sex and Strangers
posted on 08 Apr 2009A solid bet in humor is to take a character and shift him into another body. Its better if its more than one. The story here is just an excuse to do that with a talented comic actor. If you just focus on that, considering this a collection of comic skits, its partially tolerable. The odd thing is how tepid the humor gets when it veers toward matters sexual. Its all about sex, that sort of perfect movie love that's centered in sex. There's a small penis joke, but otherwise, the studio rating engineers oddly steer clear of all the stuff that could have been really funny with this body and identity shifting.Their substitute? Hurley. Doesn't cut it.Ted's Evaluation -- 1 of 3: You can find something better to do with this part of your life.
Pretty OK
posted on 25 Mar 2009This is a typical Brendan Fraser comedy in which he portrays a loser (in an acceptable way), that somehow tries to get a nicer life. Then in his life comes the Devil (Liz Hurley) who grants him 7 wishes in return for his soul. That is basically all you have to know. Then there are some jokes (funny ones and those that fall flat). Everything is average here, except Miss Hurley and not because she only wears short skirts, bikini's or other sorts of revealing clothes. She just has this charming devilish look in her eyes and that English accent. Oh man. Not only appealing as hell (get the wordplay?) but convincingly devilish.6.5 out of 10 (1.5 points for Miss Hurley)
Refreshingly funny and original.
posted on 17 Mar 2009I had heard good things about this film so i had to see for myself if it really was good ,because i had my doubts because Liz Hurley is not the best actress in the world. I'm pleased to say i really enjoyed this film. The story is quite original and lead to some really funny scenes that were superbly acted by Brendan Fraser and Liz Hurley(who looked good enough to eat,YES PLEASE!). What was also refreshing about this was that considering the subject matter it never got to sentimental and more importantly never chucked religious bull down our throats. Fraser is becoming a top Hollywood player and after watching this you can see why. 7 out of 10.
Funniest This Year
posted on 15 Mar 2009Okay, I saw this movie at a free screening ... it didn't hurt that it was free, and it didn't hurt that Elizabeth Hurley looked as good as she does. I thought this was, far and away, the funniest movie I have seen so far this year. I know that there aren't a whole lot of funny movies out this year. And I know that, if you think like me, you'll agree that most of the movies out this year were about as good to watch as wet tar.The director also was the director on Ghostbusters, and there's a lot of the same kind of humor, as far as supernatural stuff. The audience I saw it with just about died. If you like funny movies, this is about as funny as it gets.
Bedazzled..I don't think so
posted on 03 Feb 2009I didn't think this movie would be funny from the previews, and I was right. It's the kind of comedy kids enjoy not adults. It has no really good funny jokes in it. It's stupid funny, not funny funny. You'd be better off watching a rerun of the TV show Will and Grace or of Friends. While watching this movie, my mind began to wonder because it was rather boring. The thing I found most interesting was looking at the women's make-up and what shades they used. Quite frankly Allison (Fraser's crush) looks to old for him anyways.
* * out of 4.
posted on 28 Jan 2009Flat remake of the 1967 film of the same name features a fetching Elizabeth Hurley as the Devil who grants seven wishes to Brendan Fraser so that he can win the woman of his dreams (Frances O' Connor), but each of his wishes keep ending up going wrong. Fraser and Hurley squeeze what little humor they can out of the dull script and the direction is unoriginal and lets the film drag. Despite a medium sized budget, this film looks rather cheap at times.Rated PG-13; Adult Themes, Profanity.
Sold out At Blockbuster and thank God for that...
posted on 06 Jan 2009The critics of this film are overwrought. It ain't that bad. And in the post millenia crush of a steady stream of theworst most unwatchable garbage Hollywood has ever put out (EVER!), any pleasnat film is a real find. Rent this oneand your family will enjoy their Blockbuster evening.
Compare this to that disjointed Family Man and you'll see the difference.Yes, Bedazzled was done before and arguably better. But this is a more modern film, where the English original will send much of your family flying to the refrigerator. It meets the big four criteria for a rental:
1. It's entertaining
2. It's modern enough to be called fresh, even if a remake.
3. It's well cast and this film certainly is.
4. It doesn't suck.Point four cannot be exaggerated or underestimated anymore. We've reached the American-Pie, Deuce Bigolo, Saving Silverman, generation where film after film sucks the big one, andsometimes finds an audience lame enough to praise it. Scary stuff. Treasure the light entertaining film like Bedazzled and keep your family happy when you have to stay home. You'll notice one zillion un-rented copies sitting on the
Blockbuster shelves for the truly-sucky movies. Ever see the Blair Witch section? You'll never have trouble renting anything with the word Blair in it!!!!!!!!! The word gets out on the good and the Okay, and they can be hard to find. Find a copy of this one and enjoy.
Cute, harmless fun
posted on 29 Dec 2008I thought Bedazzled was rather charming. It was predictable, yes, but fun, nonetheless. Fraser did a fine job portraying all of the exaggerated characteristics Hurley bestowed upon him, and complete with a feel-good ending, Bedazzled was a nice way to spend an afternoon. I say well worth the price of video rental.
Better than expected
posted on 01 Dec 2008Bedazzled was a better film than I expected. Very episodic indeed, but some of these episodes (the wishes) were very entertaining and none of them were boring. Too bad that the scenes in between weren't as fun to watch.Elizabeth Hurley has about as much acting talent as she has fat on her body, and it *so* boring to watch her trying to act. Brendan Fraser though, is great playing goofy characters like this one (look at e.g. the delightful romcom Blast from the Past). In short, Bedazzled is a good film. Nothing more, nothing less. (6/10)
a cute & funny film
posted on 13 Nov 2008no, this is not the original "bedazzled" - it was never meant to be. this "bedazzled" is a sweet and funny little movie that will make you chuckle throughout and laugh out loud occassionally. brendan fraser's character is a shlub, and you know from the beginning he's always going to get screwed. he is dealing with the devil, no matter how beautiful and flirtatious elizabeth hurley is. this is a showcase of fraser's talents; he rises to the challenges of eight different characters admirably. ditto frances o'connor. both actors are given the opportunity to show their versatility. elizabeth hurley basically plays elizabeth hurley; but that's ok in this instance. her devil is naughty and full of mischief, not the essence of pure evil. yes, there are some weak points in the film, but overall it's a pretty good little film. on a personal note, my husband's favorite part was hurley as the high school teacher in a class of boys (big surprise). go see this film, don't wait for the video.
Just another comedy masterpiece from Harold Ramis
posted on 22 Oct 2008Harold Ramis is the director mastermind behind "Groundhog day" - film that will be remembered as one of the wittiest, craziest and greatest comedies of the 90's. More recently he directed splendid mafia parody "Analyze this" which included perhaps Robert De Niro's funniest performance ever. I have to say "Bedazzled" is just another excellent comedy masterpiece from him. Charming Elizabeth Hurley might just be the sexiest devil in the history of cinema. Brendan Fraser's Elliot Richards sells his soul to her in exchange for seven wishes. The joke of the film is naturally that these wishes just don't seem to come true quite the way like he wants.Regrettable fact that one of the wildest and most daring scenes of "Bedazzled" is totally missing is maybe a little minus. When Elliot uses one wish to be a famous heavy metal singer he turns into a sick, gross and perverse drug addicted maniac and of course the comic point is that in the end it's not what he really was after either. His character is so overdone ode to sex, drugs and rock n' roll it's extremely hilarious but I guess the scene was way too outrageous, shameless and obscene and unfortunately was deleted from the movie's final version but luckily it's available in the "Bedazzled" DVD as extra so I recommend you to check it out if you get a chance.I loved Brendan Fraser especially in "Airheads" and I have to say he's outstanding and (considering how talented he actually is like this film so clearly proofs) maybe even slightly underrated comedian and just simply perfect choice for the amusing roles like in this flick. In "Bedazzled" he's even surprisingly good because he plays several totally different characters like a Columbian drug lord and a really dumb basketball player. (Damn that the most sensitive guy in the world is hilarious too...) Starting from the brilliant title sequence "Bedazzled" is an ultimate nonstop-comedy feast.

Laugh out Loud Funny!
posted on 25 Jul 2009Finally, a remake that delivers. It's as good as the 1967 original. The plot revolves around a grown man named Elliot Richardson (Brendan Fraser). He's a total LOSER. He never gets girls, his officemates including Orlando Jones (from MadTV and The Replacements) avoid him as well. Then one night, he goes to a bar, and a ball hits his shoe. Enter Liz Hurley as the devil. After being skeptical, Elliot tries his hand at getting seven wishes for a soul. Each wish he gets, such as being a Colombian drug-lord--goes HORRIBLY wrong. After a few more wishes, Elliot realizes that the devil is turning his wishes sour to get his soul.Stop there. No more spoilers.First off, Liz Hurley is fantastic. Funny and attractive as well, but Fraser steals the show, giving great performances. I've never laughed out loud in a movie this year since Meet The Parents! I recommend it as a family movie. It has many jokes to keep everyone laughing. Sure, Hurley is noting compared to Peter Cook, but it's a cute movie.Rating: 8.9/10
