A complete waste of time, budget and poor acting
posted on 31 Aug 2009First of all... The producers know nothing about Bogota and Colombia in general. They show Bogota as a poor tropical crap (as usual by many US producers/directors) and I'm tired of this. Bogota is a beautiful 10 million people city located at 2,700 meters over the sea level, so it's a cold weather city/metropoli and not that tiny hotter than hell town shown in the movie.
Very bad acting and stupid argument and dialogs.
Don't get me wrong... I was born in Canada but I live in Colombia and I liked the past movies of the series, but this one is a big garbage and I will not waste my hard earned money on this. You'll not see accurately what Colombia really is and what happens here in this nice country so I recommend not to waste money on this nastiness.
Behind the line of the worse movies!!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009It is a really bad movie its scenery, actors, scheme, fantasy...every thing.
I personally know Colombia. There are very nice people so developed cities with technological architectures. Bogota is a huge city with about (8'000.000) eight millions of population without presence of the guerrilla, in this movie Bogota appears like small insecure town. This movie was filmed in Puerto Rico, never in Colombia. I don't know how the director of this movie put Colombia against to United States when actually is the first ally of U.S.A government in South America; furthermore, the ARMY of Colombia and U.S.A interchange soldiers each other.
I think that this movie should be more respectful with Colombia because for some people who never have visited that nice country, could get a bad idea with this terrible movie.
Factual errors: Toward the beginning of the film, the lieutenant before walking into the commanders office was saluted by a sailor. Per regulation, neither sailors nor Marines salute indoors while uncovered (not wearing their uniform cover (hat)). At the beginning of the film, Kevin Derricks was identified as a Chief Petty Officer. At the end he is wearing a Petty Officer Second Class uniform. People speak Spanish with a Puerto Rican accent not Colombian, when the movie supposedly is inspired.
I hadn't seen the first two films in the Behind Enemy Lines series and really had no desire to. Besides;I couldn't watch this movie in my computer so it is made in a bad format.
Explosions, Gunfire, And Mr. Kennedy......Kennedy!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I'll be honest right from the start in that I haven't seen the previous two Behind Enemy Lines movies & that I was really only interested in this movie because it was a WWE Film which all of them I've enjoyed to a certain degree so if you want to compare this movie to the previous two, I'm not the review to read.
Anyways, the best way I can summerize this movie is the same way you can summerize all of WWE's films in that this is a movie that would be more recieved if it was made back in the 80 & 90's. See No Evil was the slasher flick, The Marine was the action movie with car chases & fights & an overload of explosions, The Condemned was the action movie with heavy fight scenes...and this one is the military movie with gunfights & explosions that make a good fun action movie, nothing more or less. Unlike the previous WWE films where their wrestlers are the leading men, Mr. Kennedy takes the role here of the supporting actor as he's the right hand man to Joe Manganiello with his character is very similar to his wrestling personality in that he's always there for a quick one-liner comment or punchline in any situation. The plot line here with the SEALS going on a mission that leds to them being setup to look like murderers, being put in the middle of a war with a corrupt forces, and being abandonded by their own government in the process is more diverse than the previous one-dimentional plots that we've seen from WWE Films. Overall, I would say the movie came off like a 2009 90 min. episode of the old TV show "The A-Team."
DVD extras include two sets of commentary including one featuring Mr. Kennedy, 4 behind the scenes features, a bloopers gag reel, and a feature on both Mr. Kennedy & Joe Manganiello complete with amature footage of them in childhood plays they acted in. In the end, this is a good throwback movie with a fast pace & plenty of action with guns & explosions to keep you entertained which is good enough for a straight-to-DVD release but the one big factor that I thought hurt the film was that with the exception of Keith David, I thought Mr. Kennedy was the better actor throughout the film but with his lines being very limited & playing the secondary role, nobody could top his diverse performance here which I thought hurt the movie but I still recommend overall at the least but for those who usually enjoy the type of movies WWE Films puts out then it's worth a purchase.
Truth, Justice and Some Huge Explosions
posted on 31 Aug 2009This is the second sequel of the outstanding 2001 film, Behind Enemy Lines (Gene Hackman, Owen Wilson), that has gone direct-to-DVD route. Co-produced by WWE studios, it stars pro wrestler Ken "Mr. Kennedy" Anderson as a Navy SEAL who leads a small number of his brethren in a hostage rescue mission in Columbia and battle corrupt special forces of that nation.
It is a 1980s-styled combat thriller, with Anderson a larger-than-life hero, with his decisions being made against incredible odds, but with the focus that good will ultimately triumph over evil. There are enough explosions to keep the pretty formalistic plot moving forward at a rapid pace, which should appeal to fans of this genre who are not pro wrestling fans.
Where the large-screen WWE productions featuring wrestling stars like Steve Austin, John Cena and Kane proved to be box office failures, they did have surprisingly solid DVD sales. These movies are obviously targeted for a cross-over appeal to wrestling fans, but this direct-to-DVD approach may be the way to reach a wider audience much more quickly.
Good entertaining action army flick
posted on 31 Aug 2009I'm not a fan of the WWE by any means and to be honest im not even sure which character in the movie was played by this wrestling guy. But after watching the whole movie, i was certainly pleased and dont regret spending the half hour watching bullets fly, stuff explode, and the story unfold. Its a pretty predictable story but a good one. If your looking for a action filled army movie with no dull moments, then this movie's for you.
Pretty good for fans of action movies or fans of Mr. Kennedy
posted on 31 Aug 2009[...]received an early review copy of 'Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia' this past weekend. Here is our exclusive review:
'Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia' is the third installment of 'Behind Enemy Lines', the 2001 action film starrring Owen Wilson and Gene Hackman. Like with the sequel, 'Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil', 'Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia' is a straight to DVD feature. While none of the principal cast of the original is in this film, Keith David reprises his role from 'Behind Enemy Lines II: Axis of Evil' as MCPO Scott Boytano.
As for the movie itself, it is your standard straight to DVD action flick, with the notable exception being that it stars Mr. Kennedy and is produced by WWE. From the outset you realize that the movie is geared to the WWE audience as one the characters in the opening minutes of the movie is introduced with a caption noting that he "Loves Jesus and cleavage". Mr. Kennedy's character is introduced with a caption noting that he bench pressed a Civic when he was 15.
The movie was fairly entertaining and is one of the better WWE productions, leaps and bounds ahead of 'See No Evil', but somewhere between 'The Condemned' and 'The Marine'. At times the action can seem like it's out of 'The A-Team', but there are some cool action sequences and the movie should satisfy action movie fans. It's a throwback to military action based movies of the 80's and 90's like 'Sniper' and 'Delta Force'.
Mr. Kennedy makes his acting debut and does a pretty good job. He is credited as "Mr. Kennedy" as opposed to his real name (Ken Anderson) or even his full ring name (Ken Kennedy). While he is good in his role, he doesn't have leading man charisma like Steve Austin or John Cena, and also doesn't have that many lines despite being in most of the movie. You can probably fill up all of Kennedy's lines on 2 pages. Also, despite being featured solely in the marketing and promotion for the film, Mr. Kennedy actually comes second in the credits and is in more of a co-star role than the actual lead. The real lead in the movie is Joe Manganiello, who plays Lt. Sean Macklin and who also receives top billing. Kennedy's role is more like Jesse Ventura's in 'Predator', where he gets in some good lines but is ultimately relegated to the back seat. But it makes sense to have the marketing feature Kennedy since Manganiello won't move many DVD units.
The rest of the cast play their parts well, with veterans Channon Roe, Keith David and Tim Matheson (who also directs) filling out the star cast. If you're a fan of war movies or a fan of Mr. Kennedy, you'll probably enjoy this flick. It's never boring, and features gores of bombs and rat-a-tat machine gun action. If that's your thing, make sure to get a copy today.
Rating: ** ¾ (out of 5)
Watch the dang movie first before you start knocking it!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I haven't watched this movie either but I'm going to give it 5 stars to even it out from the first review given here! I hate it when people rate movies without seeing them first! I actually enjoyed those other movies produced by the WWE starring Kane, John Cena and Steve Austin!
This movie is going to bomb
posted on 31 Aug 2009This movie is going to bomb and the reason it's going to bomb is because of Ken Anderson. he's not the right man for the Job and all the other wwe productions bombed and I don't think Twentieth Century Fox is going to renew Vince.mcmahon's contract at all this movie is going to be a Joke.
A dangerous mission to sit through in itself
posted on 24 Aug 2009STAR RATING: ***** Saturday Night **** Friday Night *** Friday Morning ** Sunday Night * Monday Morning WWE productions has moved it's weight into this third instalment of the Behind Enemy Lines franchise, with a film that shows how far it's come from it's original source material. While the original was little more than a forgettable, clichéd action film with two big name stars to propel it along, here the series has moved into a whole new ball game. Opening with a monologue about how the notorious FARC guerrillas have waged a war of terror on Colombia for many years and how US interference has worsened the situation in the manner of a public service film, what follows is a remarkably cheap looking film that looks like it's been filmed with a cheap video camera. Wrestling sensation 'Mr.Kennedy' is touted as the big star, but he feels more like a supporting player throughout, leaving the rest of the no name cast to go through the motions, including rent-a-supporting-star Keith David who'll seem to pop up in any old dross like this. Truly not a plus point in sight. *
farther besmirches the name of the original Behind Enemy Lines
posted on 29 Jul 2009Two navy seals (Joe Manganiello & Mr. Kennedy) who, along with three others, have been sent to investigate some shady deals in Colombia have to rescue one of their own after he's captured by terrorists in an ambush, as well as avenge two other fellow seals who've died in the same raid. If that's not bad enough Colombian officials have blaming them for the killings (and the CIA isn't arguing).Yet another brain numbing, badly acted, action-oriented WWE film hoping to propel one of their wrestlers into stardom utterly fails. The action is marginally all right at best, but the script itself is lacking. The first Behind Enemy Lines was a fun, decent watch, the second was a muddled disaster, this one is much more the latter than the former. And as much as I truly want to say that I'll avoid WWE films from now on (which is understandable), I'm still going to watch 12 Rounds if only for my fondness of Director Renny Harlin. So when I think I'm out, they pull me right back in.My Grade: D- DVD Extras: Commentary by Director Tim Matheson, and actors Jom Manganiello & Mr. Kennedy; Second commentary by IGN Fans; 6 featurettes with a play all option (running 38 minutes in total); and trailers for "Babylon AD", "X-files: I want to believe", "Joy Ride 2" & "the Betrayed"
Pretty impressive for a DTV film
posted on 07 Jul 2009Wow i'm surprised no one's commented on this film yet, as it stands this is a highly compelling action film that manages to make the action scenes exciting without resorting to lots of shaky cam editing. Plus the cast gives it they're all and impress, especially Keith David. The plot twist is a little predictable side though and the film does depend on contrivance to drive the plot more then once, but undemanding viewers such as myself either won't notice or care about that too much. The film also seems a little disjointed at times as the opening has all the main characters introduced with hilarious text like in Feast, but then in the next scene in Colombia, a guy loses both his wife and child in a bombing, so the effect is pretty jarring to say the least though very effective admittedly.
I hate this movie
posted on 23 Jun 2009This is all crap, starting with navy seals in Colombia, what's that. Our government doesn't make that kind of things since like 20 years ago, and then, these guys in the middle of our jungles, against Colombian guerrilla, they would get killed in 30 minutes, without counting all the land mines placed in our jungles, by the way the war against guerrilla comes from 50 years ago. But it's not only against Farc but there are other groups like ELN or Paramilitares.and all the stupid people who thinks guerrilla is good for our country, they are wrong, I hate people saying that people like Manuel Marulanda or the mafia boss Pablo Escobar are heroes. Please don't believe Colombia is like this. all you see in us movies about Colombia is a big lie.
Bad
posted on 30 May 2009This movies was terrible, I think is important have a complete information about the subject that they will work. No is necessary travel to Bogota (CAPITAL) of Colombia, because is many information in Internet about this city. We don't have a hot weather The lowest temperature ever recorded was −8°C (17°F) inside the city and −10°C (14°F) in the nearby towns of the savanna. The highest temperature ever recorded was 25°C (77°F). but always is 10ºc this is during all the year, secondly Bogotá is also the largest in Colombia, and its altitude (2,640m) makes it the third-highest major city in the world (no is the jungle) is a normal city with 8,089,560 of people. And the other subject about la Farc and army is terrible, how is possible that they can give a solution like that. this is really funny!!!! was really bad
the most predictable action movie ever
posted on 20 May 2009The terrible story is so obvious from a mile away and the acting is some of the worst I've eve seen. The story is basically about a group of seals (Why send seals anyway? Don't they just do water incursions?) that get into trouble and have to do various things to escape. Every action is so predictable and the acting is some of the worst I've seen. Its meant to be an action but the characters are often joking at times when no sane person would be. IE: In the middle of the gunfight they start joking with each other... Its a shame as the original behind enemy lines was somewhat enjoyable.I really want the time that i wasted watching this movie back. If i could give it 0 stars i would have.
Horrible directing, terrible plots and cheesy lines
posted on 18 May 2009I watched this movie with the first two Behind enemy lines in mind. I was so wrong! There is no good actors/actress in this movie. You can tell it was a low budget movie with terrible plot lines that don't make sense. Some of the lines were so cheesy. It just makes you laugh and think you can direct better than how this movie was made. It makes you think it was the director's first movie, even then it's horrible. He's a director for crying out loud. You have to make sense in some scenes. You have to impress the watchers via something but just about everything seemed unnaturally filmed etc... I will never watch this movie again nor would I recommend it to anyone.
Very bad movie, but, who can blame them?
posted on 10 May 2009Who can blame them?, is a failed attempt to make a mediocre action film, based on a successful franchise. Predictable, lousy visual effects and even worse performances by really mediocre actors. But that's not the worst. The worst thing is that I'm a member of the Colombian Armed Forces and that's an insult against every member of Colombian Army, Navy or Air Force; yet the introductory footage was pretty real years ago and the FARC is much worse in the real life, now Colombia is a safer place and very modern compared to the landscapes in this film.(same stupid Bogota footage in Mr. and Mrs. Smith) The military forces are strong and very successful in its war against a lot of enemies. Guerrila/jungle war is awfully worst than dessert or regular war. Isn't Vietnam enough to teach that to Hollywood? Colombia is a beautiful country entirely filled with good people.. we have our problems like every nation in the world, but is it responsible to make things appear worse than they really are? That's wrong even in a cheap mediocre film. But they don't make their homework, they don't have budget, they don't have good actors, they only had a camera and a Home-PC video editing software... Who can blame them?
Cheap, stereotypical, predictable, poor acting...Was it supposed to be a porn?
posted on 20 Apr 2009Where do I start? When the movie first started, I wondered if there were a problem with the image quality and with the way it was filmed ! This is the same quality of a cheap porn. Did they use the same camera ?Secondly, to reinforce this image of a cheap porn, the actors/actresses's acting skills are very poor and they all look like porn actor/actresses: male all bodybuilded on steroid, female all bimbo !Add to that the very poor special effect (explosion made by my little brother, no real stunts (green screen), no military expertise...) ... This movie is very disappointing ! I don't mind bad acting in a "action/navy seal movie" but this is quite bad and I expect at least credible explosion !Oh and did I mention the massive clichés...this movie is so stereotypical and predictablePlaying Ghost Squad or Rainbow 6 on your xbox is more realistic ... I put a 2 because I saw worse ..

More Entertaining than I expected
posted on 31 Aug 2009I found this movie to be decent for a made for dvd movie. I mean I have seen much worse, like Joy Ride 2 and Lost Boys 2. While the WWE's former star Mr. Kennedy is less stiff on screen than the over-rated WWE star John Cena. I think he was better here than Cena was in both of his movies despite not being the main star. Director Tim Matheson (Animal House, Fletch) handles the action fine as well. But other than that this movie isn't that different than the previous BEL films. But I was more into it than I expected to be anyway.
