This Film is Watchable thanks to Gibson and Hawn.
posted on 16 Aug 2009A Hot-Shot Corporate Lawyer (Oscar-Winner:Goldie Hawn) meets a Mysterious Man (Mel Gibson), which She hasn`t seen Him in Years but One of them was Involve something in the Past and Now Two Hit-Men (David Carradine and Bill Duke) are After Them.
Directed by John Badham (Short Circuit, The Hard Way, Steakout) made a Entertaining Comic Thriller with Delightful Comic Performances by Hawn and Gibson. Lame at Times, but This is a Formulaic Action-Comedy (Which it was a Box Office Hit), those are Fans of the Leads. Panavision. Grade:B.

posted on 06 Apr 2009The movie itself is a little weird because you get this girl who is still obsessed with an old lover and stares at his photos and than poof he is back in her life, he tries to make it look like he is someone else but she comes back later to find two men trying to kill him. She helps him not knowing where he went or why he didn't come back to find her... but eventually it all makes sense... a movie about love and betrayl.
Good standard dumb action movie!!
posted on 30 Nov 2008This is a middle of the road but enjoyable action comedy. John Badham a veteran of the action genre handles proceedings with flair and paces the movie well. The film hardly lulls despite a someone choppy ending set in a zoo. The film is routine but gets by with the likable leads, Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn. Gibson was making a name for himself as an action man by this time having already done 3 Mad Max films and 2 Lethal Weapon movies. Gibson's everyman likability and at the same time tough guy physique worked well in these movies, despite wasting his acting ability, with the exception of a great role in Lethal Weapon. At the same time as Gibson evading death by the pursuing dirty lawmen, David Carradine and Bill Duke, Goldie Hawn seems to be in her very own light-hearted Goldie movie about the posh bird who learns there is more to life than money and essentially she is still acting from her previous movie, Overboard. Despite this Hawn is likable and has good chemistry with Gibson. The trademark showing of her ass is once again here and Hawn parades her derrière in her movies even more than Jean-Claude Van Damme. The film also features the gorgeous and future queen of soft core, erotic, B-movies Joan Severance. The film has some good action scenes and plenty of on screen carnage and thanks to Badhams brisk direction it engages. The story maybe wafer thin but the film moves by so quickly it is difficult not to enjoy. The chemistry between the two leads more than make up for the clichéd by the numbers performances of the bad guys Carradine and Duke. Carradine is so far from his great performance in Kill Bill 2 that you have to wonder why it takes so much inspiration to coax a performance from the man whose wooden demeanour has led to him being a B-movie staple for nearly 20 years.Overall this is enjoyable stuff and typical of the sort of harmless and moronic fun action movies of the 80's. ***
Star power is about all this comedy-actioner has in terms of consistency
posted on 29 Oct 2008Dir. John Badham. Stars: Mel Gibson, Goldie Hawn,
David Carradine, Bill Duke, Joan Severence and
Stephen Tobolowsky. The best 15 mintues of this
well made but highly unlikely film are 7.5 minutes
in the beginning when Duke picks up Carradine at
the prison he is being let out of in upstate New
York and the 7.5 minute final fight scene between
Carradine and Mel at the end. Duke and Tobolowsky
get killed way before the end and ditzy, spoiled
rich j.a.p. Hawn whines her way through this
movie to the point of distraction. Us guys who
like actioners could hardly wait for the Mel v.
Dave fight at the end, though because of Carra-
dine's age it isn't as good as Carradine v. Nor-
ris in the end of Lone Wolf McQuade! Still it's
sort of worth the wait. Good movie despite flaws.
Won't you want the father of your sons becomes meat for tiger, do you?
posted on 15 Aug 2008"Bird on a wire" gathers two emblematic actors, the always alluring and sympathetic golden beauty, Mrs. Goldie Hawn, with this human hurricane, the always restless Mel Gibson.
A delightful sexy-comedy-thriller where Gibson reencounters with his beloved sweetheart, after he has been sheltered by the F.B.I. into the well known witness relocation program. With a new identity, the strings of destiny will make he faces against the bad guys he sent to prison and at the same time she accidentally finds him.
So, this expected relationship will be spiced with the accustomed doses of hair raising chase sequences and that surrealistic stage at the end of the film.
Entertained but easy to forget. A bubble gum movie.
A great "Man's Movie"
posted on 23 Jan 2008I love this movie but my wife hates it!This one combined great actors, comedy, action, bad guys, good guys, women, strong women, lions, tigers, (no bears), drama, explosions, gunfire, helicopters, deception, impossible situations and narrow escapes. Now I ask you. What else are you looking for? Education and information? The ballet it is not, although there is some action high on buildings. If you are male or like male type movies, you can't go wrong!Goldie is delicious as always, Mel Gibson is, well, Mel Gibson! This movie is a action thriller comedy that moves from start to finish!
Not as funny as it should've been
posted on 21 Dec 2007A weak action comedy that should've scored. Maybe it was Goldie Hawn inappropriately costarring with Mel Gibson that ultimately sunk it. Gibson portrays a former mob criminal who gets booted out from his position with the Witness Protection Program so he and his former girlfriend (Hawn) find themselves being pursued by his old employers. It could've been another "Lethal Weapon" like film but it didn't end up that way.
Bird On A Wire Review
posted on 07 Nov 2007I think that Bird on A Wire was a brilliant movie because the Writers and Producers brought 2 wonderful actors together to make the stunning movie it is. With the comedy of Goldie Honking the BMW Horn and driving crazy to the suspense of the story of her old boyfriend Rick(Mel Gibson) who was supposed to have gotten killed years and years before.
This movie is one of my family's favorites and they have rented it and watched it more than 8 times! I think that Bird on A Wire is very good Classic and even though it was made in 1990 it is still a huge hit for the young and old.
In fact if you can I would say first before buying it you should rent it at your local movie renting store and watching it before buying it so you can see just how funny, suspenseful and Story-packed this movie is.
I rate this movie FIVE STARS because of this great combination to make this movie the most undescribable and fun movie in years that I have seen as a 'Classic'.
birdsh$t on a wire...
posted on 07 Oct 2007I was into this movie when it came out in 1990-- perhaps because I was still glowing from "Lethal Weapon 2" thinking this was almost a follow-up. Parts of it are laughable, but this is another one of those movies that just can't seem to make up their mind on what kind of genre they are (these kind of films come out every 10 years--i.e.: "We're No Angels", "Nurse Betty"), therefore, the film just isn't as enjoyable, seeming contrived as if it were written by a committee. This was on cable last week when I was flipping through the channels when I watched about five minutes. I turned it off more or so because of how fricken ANNOYING Goldie Hawn was! I'm glad she's in hiding/hibernation now, because she puts up the same, annoying shtick in every movie! Her daughter isn't even that annoying. But suffice to say, this was a pretty entertaining but extremely implausible and lame-o, forgettable movie. You can see Mel Gibson got a great check from this since he was a pretty bankable action star in his prime in those days.If I write any more about this, my teeth will start hurting...See it on cable so you can turn the channel at any moment. It'll make the movie a whole lot better! 3/10

posted on 26 Aug 2007Thumbing through the reviews for John Badham's Bird on a Wire helped remind me of the particulars of why I hated this stupid, stupid movie in general. I remember going on a date to see BOAW, my girlfriend liking it, and me cringing a grin at the end.The things you'll do to get some.If brainless fluff (Goldie Hawn), ass jokes, and Mel Gibson acting sissified are your benchmarks for fine entertainment, I would strongly suggest you see this thing. Also, if it will help the evening along (if you get my drift). But, if anything with Badham's name on it raises your suspicions about the quality of a movie (and it should, because John Badham's picture is beside the entry "Hack Directors" in the big dictionary of film making), please avoid it.
Gibson is a hunk ...
posted on 06 Aug 2007Of cr@p. This really is one of the worst written movies in history. I just gave it five stars cause Joan Severance is delightful and gorgeous and I got a thing for her ... and all she has to do is ask me for it. I can see this movie developing in a producer's bungalow on the studio lot.
Exec 1: "What if we took Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn and put them together in a action comedy?"
Exec 2: "I love it, Sammy, but our budget's just about used up for the year and those two will demand big bucks."
Exec 1: "No sweat, Josh, we'll save it on the script. Those two together are what people will want to see ... a script will just get in the way."
Exec 2: "Don't you ever get tired of being so brilliant."
Exec 1: "Sometimes."
Exec 2: "yeah, me too."
Exec 1: "Did you just insult me?"
Exec 2: "How could anyone insult someone as daft as you?"
Exec 1: "Huh? Daft means dumb."
EXec 2: "It does?"
More mass schlock from director John Badham
posted on 02 May 2007How best to describe the target audience for John Badham films ... well, probably the Bundys (as in Married with Children). Let's just say that during TV reruns of Bird on a Wire, the commercials are for nudie bars and air fresheners.
In this instalment you get to see Goldie Hawn playing her usual self: a klutzy, ditzy blonde in high heels, with the obligatory truck-stop makeup and that cavernous mouth that yaws open to yelp in surprise. Mel Gibson supplies wisecracking working class beef. The RV, Velveeta, and Readers Digest crowd should love this film, especially since the production values scream made-for-TV.
If however this is not your idea of a romantic comedy, you are not alone.
AN INTELLIGENT REVIEW OF BIRD ON A WIRE
posted on 13 Feb 2007This movie sure got bashed bewtween Malten and Shannon. Well, let's give it a thoughtful review - just for kicks. On the upside, this movie did illustrate, well, the laughable personal and professional behavior of just about everyone in the late 1980s. In fact, the illustration by itself should get a rise out of people who lived as adults through the "Crazy 80s" and others. The government and its representatives were represented in this movie as what most Americans would believe to be true to form, Gibson was a protected government informant and Hawn was his high school love, it helped the movie and Gibson that she was a rich, divorced attorney. Her character enabled Gibson to emerge victorious in a battle planned by a corrupt FBI Agent and an honorable FBI agent who became the unfortunate victim of Alzheimer's Disease. Their adventure was wild and wooley. However, on the downside, it did fall short in that there were certain scenes in which there was an unrealistic portrayal of technical procedure (like the bank scene for instance) and other scenes which did take away significantly from the movie. Basically folks, the movie was a no brainer, but it was fun and Hawn and Gibson made a pig into a chicken - rent it for fun, you won't have any regrets!
stupid acting
posted on 19 Jan 2007I really don't feel like writing reviews especially when a movie is somewhere under average. But the unbelievably stupid acting really made me do that. I never really liked Goldie Hawn but in this movie I simply found her disgusting. Those screams, her being so foolish; I can't believe she can play this kind of garbage role.Maybe is the role, maybe is the actress, I simply found this movie disgusting. OK for Mel Gibson for an early dumb role; he is nearly funny from time to time but at least he doesn't become ridiculous.I wrote all these because never in my life have I felt such a disgust towards the female character.I advise you not to watch this movie.
Mel Gibson rocks
posted on 04 Jan 2007This movie rocks--so what that it's implausible, it's fun to watch! Just watch the car chase scene towards the beginning--it's more fun than most of the recent ones, (esp. when the little yellow trolley comes out instead of the train) albeit less realistic. I wish Goldie Hawn's character was smarter though, and more independent. But Mel Gibson rocks.

This movie should make Mel and Goldie proud
posted on 22 Aug 2009This movie was very good at adding comedy and action.Mel and Goldie were very good and had great chemistry.Despite what the critics say this movie is a delight! And the soundtrack is wonderful!
