good film, no matter what they say...
posted on 21 Jul 2009I'm sorry but this movie is not as bad as most people are making it out to be. It has an excellent cast, and it's a nice little story. The story isn't a very uncommon story, though, still good. Jessica Simpson is actually an OK actress and many of her goofy scenes actually put a smile on my face. Also, as mentioned, it was a great cast. Luke Wilson, Andy Dick, Rachel Liegh Cook, Larry Miller... jeez I could keep going. But don't read what all the people here are saying. If you look around IMDb you'll see that it's usually the same people over and over who are constantly dissing movies.Watch and judge for yourself!!!!!!!
so bad it's good
posted on 23 Jun 2009This is a truly awful movie, but wonderful at the same time. It's like Tokyo Drift ... although not quite as stupid as that masterpiece. Blonde Ambition is not a mean, ugly film like Showgirls, which they have tried to rebrand as a cult classic. Rather, it is a piece of bubblegum ... and a monument of sugary stupidity rarely achieved in cinema ... therefore bubblegum you can savor long after the flavor is gone. Watching Jessica Simpson mug like an idiot, trying to do slapstick, possibly the worst I've ever seen, is a joy beyond words. Andy Dick is a dick. I guess Luke Wilson has some talent, but this script is so bad it's kind of fun to watch the what-the-****-am-i-doing-in-this-t*rd looks fall across his face as he tries to deliver the awful lines. Highly recommended.
Unnecessarily disappointing
posted on 26 Apr 2009This movie had all the elements to be a smart, sparkling comedy, but for some reason it took the dumbass route. Perhaps it didn't really know who its audience was: but it's hardly a man's movie given the cast and plot, yet is too slapstick and dumb-blonde to appeal fully to women. If you have seen Legally Blonde and its sequel, then this is like the bewilderingly awful sequel. Great actors such as Luke Wilson should expect better material. Jessica Simpson could also have managed so much more. Rachael Leigh Cook and Penelope Anne Miller languish in supporting roles that are silly rather than amusing. Many things in this movie were paint-by-numbers, the various uber-cliché montages, the last minute "misunderstanding", even the kids' party chaos. This just suggests lazy scriptwriting. It should be possible to find this movie enjoyable if you don't take it seriously, but it's such a glaring could-do-better than you'll likely feel frustrated and increasingly disappointed as the scenes roll past.
..... is worth a watch :)
posted on 08 Apr 2009I actually quite liked this movie, fair enough some of the acting was stretched......however i can really say that i enjoyed it, Jessica Simpson was nice to watch and played the character well... it was a typical chick flick...girl's boyfriend is scumbag, girl meets new boy, old boy comes back, dilemma, then its all fixed :P with a bit of fun in the end....i must say the strippers were very much loved, as were the singing priests :Pif nothing else, just give it a watch, its worth it...
Promotion for Aquafresh
posted on 13 Mar 2009I knew this movie wasn't going to be amazing, but I thought I would give it a chance. I am a fan of Luke Wilson so I thought it had potential. Unfortunately, a lot of the movie's dialog was very fake sounding and cheesy. I think that Aquafresh gave some money towards the production of the film because they were seriously dropping some hints throughout. There is a shot where the Aquafresh sign sticks out at you that you can't help but notice it. Maybe they should have focused on writing and acting more than how many times can we drop Aquafresh products in the movie without people getting annoyed. The movie had its moments, but I'm glad I didn't spend $9.50 to see it in the theater.
A great brain off comedy
posted on 01 Mar 2009This film is about a small town girl going to New York to surprise her fiancé, only to find that her fiancé is dumping her. She stays in New York and finds big success.I am surprised by the negativity around most of the comments. It's true that "Blonde Ambition" is not Oscar material, but you should already know that before watching it.Jessica Simpson's character is cute and likable. The plot is actually not bad. It is funny and light hearted. I really enjoyed watching Katie and Ben being together. Unlike other romantic comedies, office politics get a big part of the film. And have I mentioned that Freddy is really hilarious? "Blonde Ambition" made me smile and I felt happy after watching it. I think it is a great brain off romantic comedy. The only complaint I have is the constant un-subtle product advertising, which gets annoying and out of place at times.
Liked it...
posted on 15 Feb 2009I didn't watch this movie with any preconceived notions about how good or bad critics said it was. I certainly didn't watch it to judge the acting talents of Ms. Simpson. I enjoyed Employee of the Month and Dukes of Hazzard. I even enjoyed Wilson's last 'dud' movie, Idiocracy. And, I must say, for ninety minutes this movie too did entertain me.I like Larry Miller. I like Luke Wilson. I can't really say that I'm a fan of Jessica Simpson as an actress but I have liked movies she has been in. There are plenty of critics who say that 'pretty' women in movies cannot act, but let's face it, they aren't put into movies because they can act. They are put in them because they are 'pretty'.The story was good and the comedy worked for the most part. There were a couple of parts I didn't like; but overall the movie was very good. I recommend the movie.A lot of people who say they only watched the first ten minutes or so cannot be considered credible critics. It surprises me a little that for as bad as this movie was rated by so many; so many people did actually watch the movie. As Larry Miller stated in Necessary Roughness, 'eternal vigilance is the price of integrity.'
So bad it's good... then goes back to being bad.
posted on 11 Feb 2009Who wrote this? Some guy named John Cohen. I guess this was the first screenplay he's ever worked on. Someone should've told him you're supposed to write dialog that sounds like something someone actually might say.And who directed this? Scott Marshal? Son of Gerry Marshall. My the nut has fallen far from the tree. Someone might have wanted to let him know that you can, in fact, shoot a scene in a cab in New York, and it will look real, and you won't have to fake it with a blue screen for no reason. Might have also wanted to let him know he should stay away from Jessica Simpson, but hopefully he's learned that lesson now.And Jessica Simpson... naturally she can't act. Hell, she makes Jessica Alba look like Audry Hepburn, and yet she's starring in this movie. OH wait, it was produced by her father. Okay, that's why she got the part. That's really the only reason I can think of.So should I be surprised it's bad? No. Should I be amazed at how bad it is? I think a lot of people would if they saw as much of it as I did. I mean you expect a movie starring Jessica Simpson to be bad, but this... it's not just bad, it's the complete opposite of a classic film. Think of a great Woody Allen movie, this film is as bad as that film is good. It's the Anti-Annie Hall.I am so glad I didn't pay to see it, I stopped watching ten minutes in cus I couldn't go on. No doubt I would've walked out of the theater sooner. In fact I wonder how many of the 6 people who saw it per theater actually stayed and watched the whole thing. The film starts out laughably bad, and then goes to the point of being so bad it becomes a kind of Chinese water torture. And then, around when the first act is ending, you realize it'll only get worse, and that's when you either need to leave, or kill yourself. In conclusion, this film goes under the category of being so bad it should be used in place of water boarding at Guantanamo Bay. Although some prefer the water boarding.
Blonde Ambition is not a bad movie...
posted on 11 Feb 2009Calling Blonde Ambition an awful movie, is beyond the actual content of the film. The movie was quite enjoyable and good. Mrs. Simpson's performance was not perfect but neither is most of Hollywood's A-list Actresses. She did a good job, considering it was her first time as the lead. I also note, that her chemistry with co-star Luke Wilson was very high. But as good as the movie was on my views, don't expect Oscar winning material from this. The movie had an exceptional plot without any plot holes. (DON'T READ ON IF YOU DON'T WANT TO...SPOILERS) The story started with Simpson saying good-bye to her high school sweet heart(Drew Fuller) at a bus stop. Fuller is going to New York City to pursue his dream of being a model. Simpson is struck with sadness. It is later revealed that Simpson is engaged to Fuller. Realising the sadness of her grand-daughter, Simpson's grandfather (Leslie Nelson) gives her a plane ticket to see her lover on Valentine's Day. As soon as she get's there she finds out he's cheating on her. She cries to her cousin (Rachel Leigh Cook), who encourages her to stay in New York and find a job. Simpson then goes through small adventures as she lands a job at a big company. There she meets a handsome man (Luke Wilson) who seems to fall in love with her. The story then goes on to Simpson trying to keep her job as the Vice President (Penelope Ann Miller) of the company and her assistant (Andy Dick) try to confuse and use Simpson to get the President (Larry Miller) of the company fired. All in all the film was very good and enjoyable. Since the movie will not come out in theaters, the film would be a very good rental and an excellent buy.8 out of 10 stars.
This might be unbelievable...
posted on 09 Feb 2009This might be unbelievable, but this movie has grossed $878,138 in Russia! It's shown in almost all cinema theaters and still running! Well, I have no idea why distributors put their eye on this particular uh "movie", which had almost no screening around the world. That's some kind of enigma! Haha! Maybe it was based on the fact that another movie, "Pledge This" with Paris Hilton, which was as well released only DVD almost everywhere, had major screenings in Russia and grossed more than 1mln$. Besides, both movies had a lot of promotion, like there were the banners all over the city, TV commercials and etc. Speaking about movie, I'd say it's dull and absolutely boring. It could be better, really. Even if it has Jessica Simpson.
Not ambitious at all, very predictable, but with the nice cast, fans of light romance should enjoy it!
posted on 07 Feb 2009Katie (Jessica Simpson) lives in Oklahoma with her "Pap Paw" (Willie Nelson), who runs a general store. She is engaged to a real looker, Billy (Drew Fuller) who is leaving the plains for New York City, with the intent to become a top model. Katie is forlorn about his departure and soon makes plans to travel to Manhattan herself, for a surprise visit. However, Billy the Cad has a woman in his bedroom when Katie comes knocking. Tearfully, Katie gives him back the ring and heads to the apartment of another Oklahoma transplant, Haley (Rachael Leigh Cook). Haley is an aspiring actress and offers welcome and comfort to Katie. But, when she has an audition, she asks Katie to fill in for her at her day job as a bicycle courier. In short order, Katie not only meets a nice mail clerk, Ben (Luke Wilson) but also a nefarious company vice president, Debra (Penelope Ann Miller) and her loathsome assistant, Freddy (Andy Dick). Perceiving Katie as a "dim bulb", they soon have her placed as the secretary for the company president (Larry Miller), where they hope to manipulate her into embarrassing the prez in front of the board of directors, resulting in his ouster and Debra's elevation. Can such a scheme work and is Katie really just another dumb bunny? This is a very predictable offering to fans of light romance but it has its moments and most of the cast is really terrific. Simpson herself is rather nondescript but pleasant but not so for the other thespians. Wilson is engaging as ever, Penelope Ann Miller makes a fine screen witch, and Dick has some really funny scenes. Larry Miller, Nelson and Cook also add much to the film's enjoyment. As for Fuller, all one can say is "wow!" He is very handsome and should have a bright future ahead of him, as an actor or a model. While there is nothing spectacular about the costumes, sets, or photography, they are definitely up to par, but the formulaic script and direction alternates between humor and tediousness. In short, if you are not an admirer of the romcom genre, you would probably be well advised to skip this one altogether. But, for those who adore tales of love and laughs, this will fill a need when entertainment choices are lacking.
Not that bad at all but not fantastic either
posted on 16 Jan 2009I don't think this movie deserves all the bad press it's gotten. The "cover" for this movie DVD or movie poster really is terrible (recycling a previous press photo from a CD) but the movie really isn't.I personally think that this movie was better than some that I've seen in the past and this is definitely better than all straight to DVD movies that I've seen (disregarding the "limited" release in Texas). The name cast in this movie is very good (Luke Wilson, Rachel Leigh Cook, Penelope Ann Miller, Andy Dick, etc.) The story does have a bit of a plot and is entertaining enough. The first 10 Min's of this movie was pretty bad though, I must admit. Terrible acting on the part of Jessica, the "financee" and Nelson. Jessica really did look empty and "pouted" a ton in that first 10 Min's or so. But shortly after she got to NY, it got exponentially better and the movie kept getting better as it went along. For most of this movie, it was cliché (such as the difficult and quirky boss) and I felt parts of it were rip-offs of some other TV shows or movies that I've seen (kind of like an Ugly Betty situation with Dick and Miller). The part about Wilson meeting Simpson also didn't make much sense since he's supposed to be a mail-guy and then they coincidently work in the same place. Finally, a lot of the people in this movie doesn't act within reason such as the Marine Board members wanting to sign a deal right there and then without going through any details and despite the chaos. Besides these glitches, I think the movie is very watchable.
a great date movie
posted on 12 Jan 2009we thought this movie was very good. it was exactly what it was supposed to be, a feel good, romantic comedy. this movie had a lot of funny jokes in it. a lot better than the near porno crap that goes for comedy these days. this movie is highly underrated. and i don't understand why. a lot of funny characters. got to love anything with willie nelson in it. (who was by the way awesome at riverbend) me and my wife highly recommend this as a couples movie. if your going to watch this expecting the acting and story of ben hur or titanic , your probably not going to get it. but its a fun watch with your wife or girlfriend over takeout. i think the movie was cast well, they were nice to look at for the length of the movie. and its not a cheap production like you see in a lot of non theater released movies. i think couples or girls that just got broke up with will really enjoy this flick.
A delightful romantic comedy!
posted on 02 Jan 2009The story goes something like this: A small-town girl, Katie (Jessica Simpson), decides to visit her boyfriend in the big city. When she arrives she discovers he isn't quite as faithful as he should be. Katie then ends up venturing into the adventure that is New York. Filling in as bike messenger comedic and charming mishaps ensues. She falls into a hole in the ground and thus meets charismatic good-guy Ben (Luke Wilson). It's not love at first sight, at least for her, but destiny and Ben, won't give up quite that easy. Being "just" a small-town girl AND blonde a couple of evil executives at a building firm decides she's the perfect scapegoat for their cunning plan. Misunderstandings with hilarious and sad consequences follow. However, this is one blonde who won't take it lying down!People being judgmental of this film will soon enough be proved wrong. The jokes are confident and fitting, and the story well developed. The relationship between Katie and Ben feels so natural that it puts anything Godard has created to shame. The multi-talented Jessica Simpson once again surprises with a strong role only she could pull off. Simpson really is the Marilyn Monroe of our day (there's even one scene honoring her!). She balances perfectly between vulnerable and whimsy. Katie really does show us that you can't judge a book by its cover! Luke Wilson is as charming as ever. Even if he was covered in manure that man would be as appealing as anyone. His light touch, puppy dog eyes and laid back manner makes it difficult to resist. Andy Dick plays the role he was born to play, one of the two diabolical executives. He really cannot be underestimated. The strength of the performance lies in his restraint. It's remarkable, because most actors would just run away with it and play it for cheap laughs. Not this guy! In conclusion, director Scott Marshall has crafted an intelligent and frequently hilarious comedy that is destined to become a classic alongside masterpieces of cinema like Epic Movie and Norbit. Kudos to everyone involved in this, especially Jessica Simpson. Her sincere smile and whole-hearted laughter would make even the toughest man break out in a big grin. You may be tough, but you're not THAT tough! Warmly recommended to everyone who wants to be swept off their feet and see a romantic comedy that for once, feels honest. Thank you for this film! Oh, and the soundtrack rocks! Now if you still haven't gotten it. I'm being sarcastic. 1/10
One big commercial
posted on 25 Dec 2008Watching this I mainly noticed the ad placements. DHL, Aquawhite Strips, Rockstar and more. It's one product placement after another. It's quite obvious how this movie got its funding. Jessica Simpson's "acting" is laughable. Any Dick shouldn't ever get work because he plays the same lame character. The "story" is just a backdrop for this very long commercial. I can't believe this movie was even considered for theatrical release. The longer you watch this movie the more you're embarrassed for everyone involved. The only minor saving grace is Larry Miller and Rachael Lee Cook, who gets almost no screen time as Jessica's cousin. I'm embarrassed I watched the whole thing. I would recommend avoiding this one.
Not so bad...
posted on 21 Dec 2008Okay, I heard a lot from this movie being bad, being not well written, unsuccessful in limited release, Jessica Simpson in it, blah, blah, blah...I've seen it, was a breeze compared to other movies which tried to be 'good' when I came in, and those ones deceived me all the way. Not this one ! Let's give credit to Jessica Simpson here: she does her best, not the best actress in the world, but at least she is in a situation where she does not want to be the usual 'ditzy blonde', but make her place in a tough world...The supporting cast is OK (reason I watched is that Rachael Leigh Cook had a supporting role, a good performance, but too overshadowed...). Just watch an aging Penny Marshall making a reference to Milwaukee (if you remember her days as Laverne DiFazio in Laverne and Shirley...), it's worth to hear. To watch if you like Jessica Simpson mostly, she is almost in every scene...At least, this movie can't be that bad...
advert for red lipstick
posted on 17 Nov 2008This was a silly movie with a predictable storyline and dreadful acting!! Willy Nelson was as stiff as his braids. The movie just seemed like a very long advert for the bright red lipstick that Jessica Simpson wore - especially as there were so many close-ups on her face. The premise was not amusing and as I said - soooooooo predictable. Whatever money was spent on making this movie was a shameful waste. Any allusions to other old Marilyn Monroe movies did not enhance the viewing of Blonde Ambition at all. It was also so unbelievable - Jessica Simpson being able to step into an executive secretary position at the drop of a hat - that was laughable!!!
A light-hearted romantic comedy that doesn't set out to change the world...
posted on 24 Oct 2008I saw the film today (albeit online) and overall, I enjoyed it. I can see why people would assume it looks "direct-to-video" quality, but who said it was a big budgeted film? If you skip the initial notions of how much you may hate Jessica Simpson, or just how you are expecting the greatest romantic comedy ever, then you can finally take a chance to view the film for what it is: a light-hearted small film that doesn't set out to chance the world or win Oscars or cure Cancer, etc, but just one that wants to make you laugh a little every now and then.Of course there's the tag line "Small-town girl. Big-time dreams" which should nevertheless let you know beforehand that there is a simple, yet positive message this film aims to convey, but it also shows that Jessica Simpson isn't the worst actress ever. While she has yet to show some range as an actress, she sticks to what she's best known for: comedy. There's the occasional clumsy aspect to her character along with some "dumb blonde" dialogue, but underneath it all, there's the bright-eyed nature that Jessica and her character both exhibit. The whole film itself isn't too bad overall. The plot is simple, and easy to follow (and perhaps to predict), while the supporting characters (especially Rachel Leigh Cook) do their best with their roles. At times, the film's music did seem low-budget, along with the video lens quality, the journey through the film isn't too bothered by it.In the end, if you're just looking for a fun time to relax your mind for a light romantic-comedy, this is it. It's what the film set out to do, so don't try to expect more from it.I'm glad the film ended up having a theatrical release, because although it isn't as great as a mainstream film, it is above the "direct-to-video" and "made for TV" level of films released this year.
Not Horrible, Just Not Very Good
posted on 06 Oct 2008By now you should already know about this film, the Jessica Simpson "bomb" that pretty much went straight to video (limited, anemic theatrical run). Basically, Ms. Simpson's Katie travels from a small town in Oklahoma to visit her boyfriend, to surprise him, only to find him in bed with another woman. She is stranded, but has one friend (Rachel Leigh Cook, whom I wish we saw more often in film), who lets her stay. Katie ends up getting a job via two conniving co-workers (Penelope Ann Miller and the always amusing Andy Dick) who are just using Katie to get the president of the firm (Larry Miller) ousted. This is strictly a b movie, its not meant to be profound. Jessica Simpson is not a great actress by any means, but she is pretty much beautiful and never truly annoying. The film is watchable in that its not an abomination, but its throwaway fluff. In a cameo, Penny Marshall is funny (a subtle in-joke about Milwaukee made me chuckle), and there is a funny scene involving Norwegian priests (don't read too much into this). So, not horrible, but easy to skip. Your safe bet is to watch it on television if it ever does. Again, not good, but not a profound disaster.

worst movie script ever?
posted on 08 Aug 2009I saw this movie on the internet, and it was nothing but a waste of time and money. Jessica Simpson is a terrible actress and her recent music records have failed. Since divorcing, she has pretty much nothing, very little talent. And she must love showing off her dark roots. The movie is about a small town girl, Katie, moving to New York City to surprise her boyfriend. Only to find out he's cheating on her. She stays with her friend and gets a secretarial job because the vice president of the company wants the president to fail, so she can take over. Katie makes mistakes, but everything always turns out OK and she must help her boss save his job. Luke Wilson, plays Ben, the romantic interests who basically does nothing. There was nothing funny nor even amusing about this movie. It was boring with a terrible script. I know why it's going straight to DVD.FINAL VERDICT: It stars Jessica Simpson. Need I say more. A complete and total bomb.
