AWESOME

I'll tell you what sold me on this movie! THere is one scene in the movie where the police are chasing the BBband and they get away but all those police that are after them, just keeping piling up one after the other. I laughed until i almost cried and wet my pants. I don't know if that was an official thing, but it was THE BIGGEST CAR CRASH EVER FILMED! JOHN LANDIS

Can't Compare to the First.

William Goldman has said something along the lines that movie sequels are usually written by literary... I like Dan Aykroyd a lot. John Landis has a lot of talent as a director. And I enjoyed almost all of the original BLUES BROTHERS. However, I'm sad to say that this long delayed and awaited sequel is a poor companion to the original; Akyroyd and Landis have prostituted their talents for almost nothing. It has nothing to do with the absence of the late John Belushi either (John Goodman does a decent job as a replacement). It has everything to do with the poorly written script. The original film had a few outrageous scenes (the chase at the end is far-fetched, but remains as the best chase scene of all time), but they were tightly knitted together. Not so in BLUES BROTHERS 2000. It is as though Aykroyd and Landis just rehashed stuff from the first movie to make this film seem Blues Brothersish. It just doesn't work. Outside of Goodman and Aykroyd, the only thing that saves this film from being a total flop is the music. Therefore, you're better off listening to the soundtrack than watching the movie. You won't miss out on anything that way and are saved watching a lot of garbage.

Not the best... but still good

Alright, I've been reading reviews about this movie and people obviously don't like it. Fine, that's OK with me. My own father who loves the Blues Brothers couldn't even sit through it! I on the other hand watched the whole thing... then watched it again... and again... and again. OK, so the storyline is a little repeated, and the whole battle of the bands with the magic is a tad lame, but behind all that is some good music, and some laughs. And come on... the kid is cute! And John Goodman shows some awesome talent, and Dan Aykroyd... well, who can not love him?So I'm just saying that some people may enjoy this flick, and others may not... I certainly did.

Quite possibly the worst movie ever made.

There are so many things wrong with this film, one cannot be sure quite where to begin. The lack of plot? The lack of enthusiasm from the actors? (Ackroyd looks as if he thinks he's in another movie) The terrible musical sequences? Don't even bother renting this dud.

Not a good idea....

The original "Blues Brothers" film was an epic comedy. There is something very special about it, as many other reviewers here have expressed. For me, "The Blues Brothers" is to comedy what "Star Wars" is to sci-fi/adventure. No other film is quite like it, and the key characters have become pop culture icons.

I think that the reason for making this film was to try and revive the long-time declining careers of Dan Aykroyd and John Landis. It is very unfortunate they didn't reconsider. "Blues Brothers 2000" tries to maintain a happy-go-lucky feel, but three very important people are missing.

As has been said over and over again, John Belushi was fifty percent of the Blues Brothers and therefore ends up sorely missed. Probably the best scene in the movie is the opening, with the stark rendition of "John the Revelator" playing while Elwood is released from prison. Elwood waits at the side of the road, unaware that his brother has passed away. It is a shockingly melancholy and very moving way to begin the film. Even more shocking is how hard Aykroyd and Landis strain to make the viewers forget this sadness throughout the remainder of the film.

Other key participants missing from this film are the late John Candy and Cab Calloway. Candy provided a lot of laughs in the first film and Calloway provided a lot of heart (he was, after all, a father figure to Jake and Elwood).

I have seen some reviews say it is unfair to compare this film with the original. Well, I don't see how one can NOT compare it-- so much of "Blues Brothers 2000" merely rehashes classic scenes from the first film-- to much poorer effect. Aretha does "Respect" in place of "Think", the band again incites the anger of a racist organization, a significant 'revelation' occurs at a gospel church, etc, etc. If "2000" had attempted to be it's own film without relying so heavily on the earlier one, maybe it would've had a chance to stand on its own.

In place of Belushi we have THREE new frontmen-- John Goodman, Joe Morton, and the young kid (I don't remember the actor's name). All give it their all (and Joe Morton is actually a pretty good singer), but it's really a lost cause.

Well, disapointing... :o(

When I first heard about this brand new Blues Brothers film I thought :"Whow ! If it's as good as the first one... It'll be great !!!".

Then, I saw it... What a disapointment !

Bad things :

1) The story is as thin as cigarette paper and stupid... 2) there is no 'magic' atmosphere as there was in the first one... 3) John Goodman is not as good as John Belushi and by far !!! 4) Even the fabulous Aretha Franklin is... less fabulous...

Quite good things :

1) J. Evan Bonifant (Buster, a little boy) is quite good and brings some fresh air to this film... 2) the end of the film (I won't tell you !) is really nut ! 3) some GREATS musical moments (a fabulous concert near the end with a lot of famous singers and musicians !!! Surprise !) 4) the biggest car stunt ever ! 5) a making off is included in the DVD and is quite good (20 or 30 minutes !!! Can't remember exactly...)

So I give only 2 stars to this film... In fact, it worth only because of some great musical moments...

Buy it only if you are a GREAT fan of the Blues Brothers...

It all about the music, stupid

The people who have written here to complain about this show's plot obviously don't understand what the Blue's Brothers movies are about. They are in good company though. When the second Blue's Brothers came out the Spice Girl's movie was also in theaters. I was amazed to see how many reviewers panned the Blue's Brothers and gave half-decent reviews to the Spice Girl's dreadful exercise in film making. The Blue's Brothers is all about the Blues and I feel sad for those reviewers who can't appreciate the quality of the music and musicians showcased in this excellent and entertaining movie. There are so many goose-bump inspiring vocal and instrumental performances by some of North America's most legendary musicians. The dancing is good too. The car crash is fun. There are some great lines. I think there is a serious side to this movie though and it is summed up neatly in Elwood's inspirational speech when he reminds his rebellious band members what society will be left with if real musicians give up making music. I think that if you read a review by someone complaining about the plot you should quit reading right away because that person, who probably never ventures beyond the top 10 in his musical tastes, obviously missed the whole point of this movie.

Not A Good Sequel

Blues Brothers 2000 is a sad sequel to a wonderful film. If your a fan of the first, see this movie only for the music. I was disapointed in the quality of the script. Unlike the original, which had a tight script, Blue Brothers 2000's scripte lags and is weak. In my opinion they should have left out the kid, Buster, and Mighty Mac, and had Elwood, along w/ the band, try to get Cab to join up. The crashes where great and so was the way Elwood parked. I thought the ending, however, was too abrupt.

A good movie

This was a pretty good movie. Even though the first one is better, I enjoyed watching this movie. Dan Aykroyd is released from prison 18 years later. He just stands there waiting for Jake to pick him up. When he finds out Jake died, he doesn't know what to do. What I really liked about this film was its violence. I consider this movie to have mild violence. What movies I think have awsome violence are: Saving Private Ryan (1998), Black Hawk Down (2001), and Its A Wonderful Life (1946). Even though the first one is better, you should see this one. It has great music and monster trucks.

Highly Entertaining

I love this movie and have it at home. Many times I enjoy watching the last half hour, which is the musical highlight. As CC said in his comment on this board, a who's who of blues stars. A real delight. Also, the most entertaining closing credits ever. Don't turn off the movie when the credits are on - a real treat awaits after that. One probably has to be a true blues fan to enjoy this movie in comparison to the original. With Belushi gone, Landis and Aykroyd wisely go top heavy on the great music. The Louisiana Gater Boys - you can't beat 'em!If you love the blues you should get a copy of this. It's fun to pull out every so often. It's a great documentation of some true legends of music.

I stopped the movie halfway thru when 'the band' is butchering 'Ghost Riders in the Sky', some cheap special effects of skeletal horses with ghost riders appear above the stage, and Aykroid activates and summons the blues mobile with a remote control device aka batmobile(the blues mobile can also drive underwater). The only good thing about this movie is it does have a lot of the original cast, but that does not save this film from having horrible acting, dialogue (compare the two Aretha Franklin scenes from both movies as an example), storyline (get the band together and raise money-wow-what an original idea!) and even singing. The choice of songs are moronic at times: the call-in dating service and the 'lookin for a fox' at the strip club come to mind. Truly, this is a bad movie.

well, I like it!

It's not often a sequel turns out to be as good as the original. But I'm gonna say a blasphemous thing: I prefer this sequel to the original. Yeah, I know, Belushi's gone. Goodman can't take his place, but he gets high marks for trying. The little kid, irritating at first, begins to grow on ya. Back again are the stupid thugs ya love to hate -- the same old morons from the KKK and neo-Nazi militia, and a creepy new bunch, the Russkiy Mafiya. In a rehash of the original, the entire Illinois police department is again in hot pursuit of our heroes. This time around they're all enroute to the Louisiana Bayou for a Creole voodoo-Queen's annual "Battle of the Blues". It's great to watch the Blues Brothers revisit some of the clubs and folks they scammed in the original. Of course, the best thing about the 2000 version is the reunion of all the wonderful musicians (Well, most, that is; the years, unfortunately, have taken their toll, and only the music is immortal...) But it's awesome to see the original cast, and the blues sound even better this time around! I'm sorry to see so many viewers were disappointed by the film. It's pure fun!

well not bad for a sequel

Not Bad for a sequel 4 stars only cause i liked the music and
musicians to my personal taste .

Just like a sequel - it sucks

This film is unfortunately a perfect example of why there should be a law against sequels. There have been some reviews that point out the "fact" that this movie needs to be appreciated as a tribute to the original, but we should not have to read interviews with cast members and directors etc before we can appreciate and enjoy a film. A bad film is a bad film. The beauty of the art form of film is that its immediate and has no need for explanation.I think the reason that there has been so much spleen vented in relation to this appalling film is that the original movie was so fantastic that to see a pale imitation/sequel/tribute was just gut wrenching to us followers of the original Blues Brothers as a cult film. Friends of mine can recite each and every word from the original and whilst yes that is sad it does perhaps explain why the lowest scoring votes for this film seem to come from the age group that was probably most affected by the original.Whilst we see some good "ad-lib" moments from Aykroyd the rest of the cast, the writers and director just miss the dead-pan reaction that Jake and Elwood gave us to the events in the first film. That was the essence of the original - Jake gets flamed and we see him smoke his cigarette, they get out of the car it falls apart but no words are spoken just a look and then they are off, the car jumps over the bridge "the cars got a lot of pickup", etc etc. The original film is a musical action comedy fantasy - something that should never have worked and I do not think has worked since - especially in this film. The great thing about this film of course is the music and that was a big part of the original with the blues brother soundtrack being a massive international seller. In this film we see the most amazing bunch of real blues and soul musos ever assembled and perhaps the film could have been saved if they had been able to play a few more sets.2 out of 10.

Excellent! A Real THRILLER!

A GRRRRRREAT MOVIE! Aykroyd was excellent, but the best cast member was actress/model Shann Johnson (Matara-the exotic dancer)! This model/actress/former Soul Train Dancer is a rising star! Superb! I hope to see her in many more movies! She is the next "J.Lo"!

John Goodman is NOT cool!

posted on 21 Dec 2008

O.K, the Blues Brothers is cool and has appeal to many generations. I thought this movie was fine. The addition of the black police chief as the lost Blues brother was excellent, even that little tyke had a few decent lines. Dan Ackroyd was fine ( but I hated his yellow tinted glasses in this movie - black baby!) - but John Goodman is NOT cool!!!! As a teenager who had heard of and seen the original Blues Brothers, I was expecting a cool movie. But as soon as I saw the poster in my theatre with John Goodman on it alongside Dan Ackroyd, I knew instinctively ( and sadly) that this movie wasn't going to be cool. Let's not beat around the bush - John Goodman is a fat man. What's so cool about seeing a middle aged fat man? NOTHING! I say without John Goodman this movie might have been a four star affair, but with John Goodman literally weighting down the entire picture I give it just two stars.

distinctly average overall

I'm a big fan of the original Blues Brothers, but the sequel does not match up.The music is good (although I think the original was better), the cameos are outstanding (especially at the end) and visually, you cant fault it.The plot however.. What have they done? It just isnt the same. It needed to be more grimy, less sleazy and contrived. More realistic car chases and no kids. One poster commented that half of the fun of the first movie was seeing two white blues guys and that having a black guy in the second film removed the joke. Perhaps not; surely the joke is that the black guy hasnt got a musical bone in his body. It's worth watching - there are gems in the film, and is good value particularly as part of the dual DVD pack.5/10.

Scores new lows in movie-making

posted on 03 Dec 2008

How bad is this movie? This sequel is flat out blasphemous, scoring a slot right next to Godfather 3 as worst and most unnecessary sequel ever. It's not just a lite 85 minute comedy thing either, it's a solid two hours of bad music and sequel jokes "You guys again?". Of course there is no John Belushi this time, instead we get John Goodman who is usually good but Belushi himself couldn't help this movie. I just feel sorry for all those people who had to sit through this in the theatres. Then again, they probably should've known better. Also, there's a little kid who joins the band. The dance numbers are terrible and it's embarrassing to watch all those big names like James Brown and Eric Clapton participating in this. How could Dan Aykroyd do this to his good friend Belushi and desecrate the good name of The Blues Brothers? Total crap. Also, this movie has a weird Men In Black vibe to it, must be those cool sunglasses.

What a great follow up to the original Blues Brothers movie!

posted on 28 Nov 2008

I have been waiting for this to happen for many years. It is definitely not a second rate sequel. This movie has done what few have and that is improve on the first. The passing of John Belushi almost made this movie impossible, however the writers did a great job in taking this script to new hights. It is definitely one to add to your video collection!

This movie stinks

I was tremendously disappointed by this movie. It stinks. What a disappointing sequel to such a brilliant movie (the original Blues Brothers). Don't waste your time.
