TAGLINES PLOT SUMMARY

Catwoman is the story of shy, sensitive artist Patience Philips (Halle Berry), a woman who can't seem to stop apologizing for her own existence. She works as a graphic designer for Hedare Beauty, a mammoth cosmetics company on the verge of releasing a revolutionary anti-aging product. When Patience inadvertently happens upon a dark secret her employer is hiding, she finds herself in the middle of a corporate conspiracy. What happens next changes Patience forever. In a mystical twist of fate, she is transformed into a woman with the strength, speed, agility and ultra-keen senses of a cat. With her newfound prowess and feline intuition, Patience becomes Catwoman, a sleek and stealthy creature balancing on the thin line between good and bad. Like any wildcat, she's dangerous, elusive and untamed. Her adventures are complicated by a burgeoning relationship with Tom Lone (Benjamin Bratt), a cop who has fallen for Patience but cannot shake his fascination with the mysterious Catwoman, who appears to be responsible for a string of crime sprees plaguing the city.

Soiled my pants.

This movie is soooooooo good. Wow, almost on the level on Kangaroo Jack, but not quite as good. Anyways, like I did during Kangaroo Jack, I soiled my pants. Just, I don't like how Catwoman has a nemisis that isn't an animal, she should be fighting Dogman. Kangaroo's are racist animals, so they couldn't use that. I know this film will break all the box office records set by the Passion this year, and it should because the Passion was also racist. Anyways, mad props to Hallie Berry, but I would've liked to have seen some white chocolate in that custome. I like the white women. Uggh I like it like that, slow motion fo me. The mask was incredible, it reminded me of Shredder from Ninja Turtles. I think that the performance is on par with Busta Rhymes performance in the critically acclaimed Holloween Ressurection. I bet Catwoman cooks some mean Nachos.

movie is A.O.K.

previous people have said the movie was bad but you have to be a fan of cat women through the years to get it ...... the movie was great for it's ability to explain some things .... not to mention Halley Berry is the bomb. it's worth it to watch her. she has the walk down and can carry off the attitude..... Sharon Stone is classy and beautiful.... as for the comments through out the movie like "Cat got you tongue?" that stuff is funny and well placed. I won't say it's the best movie in the world but for people who like comic book movies and themes it's a must see. the story telling was good if you followed the story through comic books. I was particularly impressed that they finally took the time to explain how people became cat women and why

I just viewed my birthday present last evening and in a word, this was loads of fun!!!!! Halle is as luscious as ever.First of all, this is basic comic book fare. Therefore those of you expecting a Masterpiece Theatre production should get a grip.Of course the plot may not have been overwhelming. But neither was it in Superman, Spider Man, Hellboy, Hulk, or Spider Man II for that matter. And why would Halle attach herself to a project such as this? There are infinitely more important intangibles here at work. How many young girls of color ever get to have such a beautiful, award-winning actress, of color, personify the empowerment of women? I submit that Catwoman is a wonderful exercise in showing how pivotal one's blossoming can be - the movie also addresses the dilemma of accepting responsibility for one's own actions as well an interesting foray into choosing good over evil (or vice-versa).Of course I have seen movies with better plots, tighter screenplays, more intricate direction, more elaborate sets, blah, blah, blah. One thing is certain: NONE of them have Halle Berry slinking up and down the street as Catwoman, the LAST Dominatrix, so sexy and fetching and just plain WORKIN' NERVES!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it just doesn't get much better than THAT!!!!! The movie was fun. Did it need (or purport to be) more than that? I daresay any of the other recent comic book adaptations provided much more either and yet critics were infinitely kinder. No matter. The nature of the beast.Halle and company made a fun, entertaining movie that teaches basic life lessons in a familiar milieu. Additionally, a priceless special feature of the DVD was the "Face of Catwoman", a featurette chronicling Catwoman's many incarnations narrated by none other than Eartha Kitt!!!!!!!

Nowhere near as bad as I thought.. actually, pretty good!

First off, can I say I thought Spider-man 2 was dreadful.I mean, I wasn't too struck on the first, but I thought the special effects were great and Tobey Maguire acted his little socks off. But no.2? Nah, something wasn't right. So it was with great trepidation that I put that Catwoman disc in my player on a Sunday afternoon and sat down with my trashy cinema buddy and a bowl of popcorn to watch what hyped as the worst film of 2004. I mean, I hated Spider-man 2 which many regarded as a masterpiece... what hope did Catwoman hold?Lots, actually. I found myself really enjoying the movie.. a hell of a lot more than Spider-man 2.Sure Catwoman is campy and trashy. Sure it's pantomime. But it's also a comic book. People tend to forget that. The whole thing came across in a really comic book style and was much more watchable than the old web crawler. Catwoman knows it's glossy forgettable fluff and doesn't self indulge in pithy sentimentality. I got sick to death of Peter Parker's moral preaching... I didn't watch Catwoman for a lecture, I watched it to see Catwoman kicking butt. And kick butt she does. Halle Berry is perfectly cast here, as being an Oscar winner, she can actually pull of the range of emotions needed to convey Catwoman's multi faceted personality. You believe when she's meak and timid as Patience Phillips. You can totally empathise with fun she's having when first playing with her new found cat powers. And boy does she look like she can kick ass as a full fledged Catwoman. Now I gotta admit, I saw Halle's costume back at the start of 2004 and thought.. Minnie Mouse? Thought she was doing Catwoman? Well turns out that costume isn't so bad after all. They couldn't keep the Pfeifer one and with the premise that Catwoman is just an moniker that is passed down through the ages, if each Catwoman is different, why not each costume. It looked sexy, daring almost military. A real urban outfit. I forgot the ears after a while. The rest of the cast are variable in their contributions. Benjamin Bratt as Berry's love interest has the most thankless role. A by-the-numbers dumb cop (who just happens to be assigned to every incident that Catwoman is involved in) who even when Catwoman is an inch from his face, doesn't recognise the breasts that were lying on top of him the previous night! So much for police diligence! Sharon Stone is icy cool as the villainous Laurel Hedare whose relationship with her playboy husband George (Lambert Wilson) is an interesting but never fully realised story arc. Wilson's screen time is brief, but he's outshined by Stone, who plays the bitch with relish. At 40+ she still looks great and her final hand to hand fight with Catwoman proves she's in good shape.I was prepared to hate Catwoman. I kept telling myself it was awful, but then instantly correcting myself. As a superhero movie it was great - it pushed all the right buttons. As an action movie - forgettable, but enjoyable fluff. If you haven't seen it, rent the DVD, you may find your self purrleasantly surprised.

Much better than I expected it to be...

Not that this is the greatest movie ever made, far from it. However, I was expecting a complete steaming bowl of monkey poop (as mentioned by another reviewer here) and was pleasantly surprised to get a flawed but nonetheless enjoyable summer flick.Sure the movie is loaded with all sorts of implausibilities. Stuff such as: Detective Tom Lone (a "lone" cop, get it? hahahaha, uh, no) character is literally seconds away from wherever Patience/Catwoman is at all times. Sharon Stone's cop hits an alarm, and he is AT THE SCENE before Catwoman can get away. I wish I had this kind of police response in my neighborhood. Halle Berry is great to look at. In my mind this makes her Patience Phillips character implausible. This woman is HOT. Capital H. And yet no one gives her a second glance. I'm not buying it.Despite such things, it is enjoyable for the mindless fluff that it is. Hardly the "worst film of 2004". Certainly better than VAN HELSING, although I'll confess that I didn't hate that one either.I have the feeling that many of those who are savaging this movie here are doing so because they are comic book fanatics who see something vastly different than their beloved comic book characters. Change is hard to accept, I get that. So they see someone messing with the image and story in their mind and get bitter. "Why did they make her black?" they whine. "Why did they change her name?" Well, get over it folks. Life is too short.

Why was it so bad?

I have to agree with the minority of people; this movie DID NOT suck. Other than the plot was rather... weak and some dialog was corny, the special effects were very very good, Halle Berry was just HOT and the cinematography (as stated above) was less than excellent. Loved it. 4/5 to those who hated it and spat all over it, thats YOUR opinion. To us who liked it, congrats. I liked it very much, and on the 18th of January I will be holding my own copy of the movie, and I will be happy. Think about it, Halle Berry, Benjamin Bratt and Sharon Stone. All superb actresses/ actors. Put it together and you have Catwoman. A GREAT movie with lots of kick-a$$ fighting scenes, not to mention Halle Berry in that suit. Loved this movie( can't say it enough)

If anything, the critics were too kind...

What to say about this 'film'. I use the term lightly. Many have identified this movie as a hour and a half music video. I'm not sure which music videos they watch, the ones I see have better editing and actually some direction. Most know the plot already, Patience Philips a shy person, blah blah blah, gets killed, blah blah blah, brought back to life from a cat, blah blah blah, seeks revenge, blah blah blah, dates cute cop, blah blah blah, fights Sharon Stone. The plot is not original, so one wouldn't go to see it for the plot. Not when they could just rent the Crow. The editing and direction in the film is shaky. At times, the direction seems masterful, the opening credits were great. But after that the film fails. During a scene with just two people talking for about a minute or so, the camera switches angles about 6 or more times, and not even at logical places. The action sequences were horribly edited, to the point I nearly got motion sick. The acting? I know Halle has an Oscar, but geeze... The woman is no Catwoman. When she's Patience Philips, well... Let's just say, I saw nothing unremarkable about her. She was hot and sweet. Had this been in real life she'd have men lined up at the door. At least Michelle's Catwoman at least looked like a geek. Sharon Stone is a very, very weak villain. Nothing threatening about her, she wasn't even a fun villain. And then, Benjamin Bratt who plays the cop that replaces the caper crusader? Well, let's just say, I think he was trying to suppress a snicker through the whole thing. He was eye candy for the ladies, although the character wasn't quite as stupid as some people make him out, he's still not the brightest crayon in the box. Sally, Patience's friend was the comedy relief. If you want cheap sex jokes you could get on cable, or even network TV, then she's right up your alley. The effects were simply laughable. Really, they had a CGI of a cat (They could've used a real one in the scene easily.) they have a CGI of Catwoman walking and they always use CGI on the whip. And the way Catwoman moves... Its actually more like a spider then a cat. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised it they simply took Spiderman's scenes and changed him into Catwoman. Lastly, was it entertaining? No. Not for me, I was counting the minutes for it to end. I could've been wowed, really, the opening credits were fabulous. But I'm guessing they knew that too since they used the same scene three times.... In the end, if I had to review it on the 4 star guideline, I'd give it zero, or perhaps 1/2 of a star. It really is that bad. When there's so many other good films out there, why waste money on this kitty?

Prrrrrrrretty awful.

"Catwoman" isn't good as a superhero movie and most certainly also isn't much good as an action movie. The story and the main villains plot is beyond silly and for that reason alone this movie is already a waste of time. But there is more wrong with this movie. First of all this movie has almost nothing to do with the Catwoman who we all knew from the Batman franchise. The makers have taken lots of liberties and changed the character and settings entirely. Why? Whatever their intention was, they failed terribly with it. The character isn't interesting and the story also doesn't make her always understandable. One time she has a sort of amnesia and she doesn't remember what happened when she Catwoman and vice versa when she was Patience Phillips and then at other points of the movie she remembers everything perfectly. It makes the movie confusing at times and the main character a totally unbelievable one.Disappointing was also the main villain(s) who are perhaps always the most important element of a superhero movie. Like I mentioned before, the villain(s) intention were totally lame and not likely, even by comic-book-movie standards. The movie features some at times horrible (and pointless) CGI-effects. Also the action sequences weren't much good, this is due to the absolutely horrible and just totally wrong action editing.Quite honestly, Halle Berry isn't horrible as Patience Phillips although she isn't great as Catwoman. Please give the Razzie's to really bad actors and not to good actors who play in bad movies. Her Catwoman costume was however quite ridicules to look at. Does she has no self respect as an actress? There are some other good and well known actors in this movie but the script doesn't provide them with anything good or interesting to do on screen.Yes, the movie does have some entertainment value but the silly story and the way it is told make this movie nothing more than a poor superhero movie wannabe.4/10

Bad:It isn't so bad:Deviation cast chosen

posted on 14 Aug 2009

Everyone said this film was totally awful. Well, yes it isn't as good as Berry's other film. actually, i little bit hate saw feigned action on Berry. From the beginning i thought this film is dark and show the intricate or complicate roll way of life like Wayne in Batman but when i finished watching until then, this film was far than what i expect. It feels the plot is too smooth the problem that what berry's role should have to be. Actually, this film just have some easy intricts. But, i think on the whole this film just enough entertained me. Still hilarious looking the sweet and beautiful Berry's face. Maybe Pitof should have choose more charismatic cast for catwoman's boyfriend. He is just little under par in handsomeness. The main problem is Halle Berry who get this part. He has a high standard in acting and not suitable for an easy role like this, choose others maybe it's more fixed.

A bad idea gone horribly wrong

I think I know how this movie got into production. Somewhere in one of those Hollywood think tanks somebody must have suggested "Hey, lets put Halle Berry in tight shredded leather and make her crack a whip around like a dominatrix!" Gee, how could THAT idea have possibly backfired? This movie could be summed up in one phrase, worthless flesh fest. Everything from the acting, the story, the special effects, to some of the plot devices were so bad that they were just painful. Guess how Sharon Stone's character gets her super powers. Yup, anti-wrinkle cream that turns her into stone (pun intended). This movie was Catwoman in name only. There is absolutely no ties to its batman comics roots. You would think that X-Men gave us us fair warning not to cast Halle Berry in comic book based movies, but noooo!

catastrophe

posted on 10 Aug 2009

Oh this may contain spoilers..... or savers, if they stop anyone from seeing this movie. It's hard to know where to even begin. Against my better judgment, I finally saw Catwoman on DVD. That thing about curiosity and cats? It certainly held true in this case. The only way I can rationally explain a movie like this to myself is to assume that the director and/or writer and really everyone involved with the film made a conscious, thought out decision to make a bad movie. The real kicker is that Catwoman isn't even awesomely bad, it's just bad. (If anyone doesn't know the difference, watch Catwoman one night. Then watch Pirahna the next night. Don't watch them on the same night, and don't let children in the room. I can't stress that last part enough, you will permanently damage them.) So anyway, it's like the plot was carefully calculated to be as lame as possible. Killer makeup? Magical kitties? Catwomen, existing throughout history as some kind of shadowy, revenge obsessed, zombie group? (So maybe she's not technically a zombie, but it does make the acting easier to stomach.) It is a little comforting to know that ancient Egyptians had to deal with catwomen stories too, but at least they didn't have movies. So for ignoring things that could have made the movie at least palatable, oh like Bat-man, a plot, jumping through the window of the people partying across the alleyway and ripping them all apart, or more cheesy cat references, I give this movie a 1. I guess the cat's out of the bag.

Stylish Girl Power

Okay, so I can understand some of the possible complaints people may have about this movie (Sharon Stone's hair). However, I still think that this adaptation of the comic book deserves some applause (Halle Berry's hair). Frances Conroy as the cat professor of the 1940s was quirky and freaky, but not well developed or delivered. However, the performances by Berry and Bratt were terrific. Berry's ability to move in a feline manner were downright horrifying in accuracy, and Bratt managed to be cool and stylish instead of just sexy and mildly likable. The bit about Egyptian goddess Bast felt a little odd, but it was at least historically accurate - as far as it went. Also, it was a nice vehicle for Catwoman's dualistic nature. Women can be both demure and aggressive, just like there are dark and light sides of the moon. The writing was about as clever and developed as the juvenile scripts of XXX and Daredevil, but this film had things that the others lacked (Halle Berry in leather with a whip, an attitude, and good lipstick). For one, I hate to say that one person can radically change a film, but Halle Berry was astounding. I don't think you have to be heterosexual male or homosexual female to have found her performance physically impressive, stylish, and the perfect embodiment of liquid sexuality. Also, the opening sequence music as well as the music elsewhere throughout the movie (done by Klaus Badelt - Gladiator; Pirates of the Caribbean) gave the audience the feeling that THEY were sexy and liquid like Catwoman herself. The music made the movie better than it was. The music was so great, that if you could just watch Berry and Bratt enjoying themselves, like some kind of hedonistic music video, the audience would not have cared much about the script any way. Perhaps not a great testament to the film, but certainly a great recommendation for the score. It was, oddly enough, a feel good movie about finding and defending your identity in the topsy turvy world of demonic and toxic cosmetics. Okay, not Pulitzer material, but good enough for me to not worry about the message to young children (identify yourself, like yourself, stick up for yourself, and stay away from obsessive cosmetic distributors). However, it was freakishly (pun intended) too close to some of the themes from the first Batman movie. Nicholson as the Joker, Stone as Laurel Hedare...separated at birth, anyone?I do worry, though, about Sharon Stone's hair, which was, perhaps, the most horrifying part of the movie, aside from the forced down-the-shirt shots of her cleavage. All in all, it was a movie that makes you want to get up and groove...or gyrate, but it was perhaps not much more than that. Sometimes, however, that's all a person needs in a movie.

Pleasantly Surprised... Don't Believe the "Negative Bandwagoneers"

posted on 04 Aug 2009

First let me say that before I saw this I expected it to be absolutely terrible. The reviews and negative buzz about this is absolutely huge. But why? Most likely because humans are heavily dependent on social acceptance for survival (at least in the old days, i.e. BC). This has an annoying effect of massing non-critical thinkers into joining a mass movement of "public opinion", and quite often it gains speed and soon everyone is "doing it". What I mean by this is that people are afraid to say that the movie was good because everyone else says it's bad and they're afraid to be outside the "norm" of public opinion. Another thing in this same general area is feverent bashing of something to "fit in". It's the same thing as with homophobia, democrats, republicans and other groups of polarized opinion holders. In order to be accepted, the person desiring to be in the group does as others in the group does... it's simply monkey-see monkey-do in order to be accepted by a group. So, with that intro into why the movie is being panned so badly, here's what I thought of the movie: It's good. The script is consistent and well written. The acting is good as is the direction (aside from the fighting sequences). There are plenty of interesting scene presentations and scene fades. The movie was not some flash-bang rushed project... there is a lot of thought behind every aspect of the movie. My only complaint with the whole film is the fighting sequences are frenetic and incohesive since the fight scene consists of MANY 1-3 second clips spliced together (the same scene filmed with multiple cameras, and switching between the cameras every 1-3 seconds). This breaks up the fight scenes into a collage of disjointed flash images that just make the action hard to follow. Aside from that, the CGI and action sequences are done quite well and are imaginative. Character development is excellent (if not somewhat predictable) but one does wind up caring what happens the protagonists. Some people complain about the "silly" story. Well this is a fantasy flick and I didn't have any problem at all with the evil cosmetics company threatening mankind. In fact it's just the over-the-top kinda aspect that really makes this film work. The whole film is very over the top in terms of the catwoman character and her adjustment to being infested with spirit ala cat. But it is done in a playful way and is actually the source of many of the humorous moments of the film. Overall, it's a movie based on a comic book character... don't' get all bogged down in "it's so unrealistic" - you'll be denying yourself some good IL' fashioned fantasy entertainment. I subtract one point for the lame fight scenes (reminds me of gladiator fight scenes). Final score: 9/10 (But I gave it a 10 in the voting to offset the bozo-votes of the sheep out there).

The special effects are bad. The costume designer for the cat suit really hates Berry! Whomever decided to use Eartha Kitt to narrate the special feature on the history of Cat Woman, should be shot. that woman is ugly, has a voice that puts nails on a blackboard to shame and radiates arrogance! How can you write ten lines on this movie? Not even worth a DVD to copy!Waste of time.Darn, I could watched Ishtar!Or even Waterworld!

Well I Thought It Was Horrible.

Catwoman. Slight Spoilers Warning!Well I think this movie was horrible. I think it was just too much compelling stuff in it that was a lack of my taste. I think if I was Halle Berry I would consider doing a more higher level movie than "Catwoman". I think Pitof was a little in disregards to make this movie because I don't know who would. This would be on my last list of worst movies to see. I think many people may want their money back. I think that Pitof Is a great director but this movie was no picnic to watch. To put it Simple I think the movie should have had more potential. And I think Pitof should do himself some good and make a better movie on his behalf.

Marginally better than being put in front of a firing squad.

How to describe this movie? It's a tough question. I could go with something pictorial, like a giant pile of manure covered in a swarm of buzzing flies, or try to invoke some sort of description based upon the booing and jeering audience in the cinema when I saw this. But those would not be good enough. No, this movie left me feeling at the end of it as if it had just murdered my entire family, and then subjected me to a couple of millennia of Abu Ghraib-styled torture.Just what is it that provokes such vitriolic hatred? The movie is just flawed, from start to finish. I know from experience not to expect too much from American superhero flicks, but this makes "Batman and Robin" look like a masterpiece of modern film-making. The script is embarrassingly clichéd and bad, the cinematography is average at best, and Halle Berry's acting is about as wooden as the contents of a lumber yard. Apart from Ms Berry, all of the other actors here, mostly a collection of Hollywood wannabes and has-beens, overact to a degree that would make William Shatner blush with embarrassment. Some people might think it slightly silly that I'd take offence at going to see tripe like this, but when you think about it, the millions of dollars that were spent on the bevy of special effects in this film (an ironic term, since not a single one of them is very special at all), could have been spent on cancer research, feeding starving African children, or, perhaps my favourite, actually putting together a decent film that people will watch out of something other than a sick sense of fascination with bad cinema.

What a perfect idea for a movie!!

Catwoman is the best movie ever. I don't understand why some people don't like good movies? Halle Berry is so cool in this movie. Halle played Catwoman much better than Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. Even Halle's costume is better. Better action scenes and a much better plot. I saw the movie on Saturday and the theater was full. Even my family loved the movie. This is one of my favorite action movies now. This movie rocks 2004 for the best action movie made this year and any other year. I really loved this movie. I really enjoyed this movie because it was so cool. Even though the movie is about cats it is still a very good movie for the family to see. I would go see this movie again and again.

Worse than I thought!

This movie is so much worse that I thought it would be! I made a list of all the things I hate about it.
1. The story. Horrible, ridiculous. 2. Terrible, headache-causing music. It was like I was watching five music videos instead of a movie.
3. Some of the worst dialogue I've EVER heard in a movie. 4. The director airbrushed Halle Berry and Sharon Stone in EVERY scene. They look so fake. It was freaking me out - their skin looked like it was painted on or something. I'm not even sure Halle Berry even starred in the movie: I think it may have been an entire computer generated person that looked like her. 5. The costumes. Even the normal clothes look terrible. And Sharon Stone in all white? She looks HIDEOUS! 6. Worst camera action sequences EVER. Even the part where Catwoman has the whip and is kicking some butt the director cuts the scene up so it's hard to tell what is going on. The good things? 1. I had a free movie ticket. 2. The real cats. And the CGI cat they have isn't so bad looking either. 3. The opening sequence with all kinds of cool pictures of cats and catwomen.
Not even campy fun like I had hoped.
Blech.

That was the best movie that had to do with super heroes I had ever seen. I love Cat Woman the movie. I even love cats and have two of them. I saw it on TV and I will get the movie soon. I give Cat Woman two thumbs up. I wish I was a cat like Cat Women. That would be so cool. It was a PURRfect movie. I love Cat Woman enough to right ten lines for a comment for the movie. This is the comment I was talking about. If you have not seen Cat Woman, you should. You will like it. The movie has action and other things, too. I want to see this movie again. I always wish for something to happen to me like in movie. Just like Cat Woman. Meow
