A Nicole Review

Steve Martin is funnier than ever in this hilarious sequel! Tom Baker (Steve Martin) and wife Kate (Bonnie Hunt) bring their clan together for a memorable summer getaway. But their dream vacation turns into an outrageous competition with the overachieving, overzealous family of Tom's long-time rival, Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy). Featuring all the original Baker kids, including Hilary Duff, Tom Welling and Piper Perabo, this super-sized comedy is fun for the whole family!

liked as much as the first

Sequels usually are not very good. This was just as good, if not better, than the first one. It was easy to watch. The plot is light, but what do you expect if you saw the first one. Eugene Levy was a great addition to the cast and Carmen Elecktra did surprisingly well. It was great to see the original cast children grown up a little more. While this won't win any Academy Awards, this was a great movie to sit back, relax and be entertained. We laughed out loud many times, as did the rest of the theater patrons. Not as many pranks and problems from the children this time. Maybe that is why I liked this one better. It will be a DVD purchase.

Good, solid family movie

This is actually better than the first film, CBTD. The under-appreciated Bonnie Hunt is excellent but gets less screen time and less opportunity to ad-lib, where she is at her best. In spite of the fact you can see the resolution of the plot coming at the end, you are still moved by it...very well done in that regard. Carmen Electra was actually quite good as well. Eugene Levy was surprising in the role of a "together" super dad. All of the kids did a great job in their roles. As an aside, Hilary Duff has certainly made a mistake by getting plastic surgery. Who convinced her it was a good idea? Steve Martin is billed as the star and he was good but Bonnie Hunt appeals to me far more as a comedian and an on-screen presence.

funny movie

This movie is funny. People that have big families can really relate to this movie. The actors are funny and the plot of the story is pretty interesting. You should watch this movie at home and not in the theater.

Typical Family Comedy

posted on 10 Aug 2009

'Cheaper by the Dozen 2' is pretty much the typical family comedy that has nothing new to offer. That does not mean that the film is absent of entertainment. It pretty much follows the usual formula with the regular ingredients. The slapstick and jokes are expected but still amusing. There are some funny adult jokes too. The film has heart and that's what works for it. Shankman and his cast and crew must have had a great time (as was also apparent on the DVD extras). Steve Martin and Eugene Levy are good. Martin has played the comedic family dad perhaps more than a dozen times and he has become quite skilled at it. The extremely talented Bonnie Hunt is criminally underused but she has an effective presence, nonetheless. Carmen Electra is a surprise. She plays a hot mom but not the clichéd one, rather one that is compassionate, gentle and caring. Electra does a good job and proves that she can do more than being just an airhead or a seductress. Piper Perabo is also underused. Jaime King is very pretty. Hilary Duff plays sort of a spoilt brat (which is a change from her sweet pretty girl image) but her acting is quite bad and she needs to eat. The child actors were all fun to watch. Overall, it's all goofy family fun and quite enjoyable when watching with the family.

i liked this better than # 1

As you can see in my title, I definitely thought this was better than the first, for a few reasons. In the first one, they were having troubles with moving, feeling part of the family, parent's jobs and so on and so forth, whereas in #2, there are a lot more issues with the family all together, such as, the kids are getting older, Nora is pregnant, they want to be treated more like adults, and really more about the family staying a family and not just scattering everywhere and forgetting everything they've been through. There were a lot more great actors, plus another large family rivalry which wasn't really a family rivalry, but a father to father rivalry, which was hysterical because the kids don't really want to be rivals!

I suggest this movie to any families, small or large, I can almost certainly assure you you'll like it. As to everyone else, I can't make a promise but to say that it's a real masterpiece. I envy these screen-writers!

Better than the original

Cheaper by the Dozen 2 Cheaper by the Dozen 2 is even better than the original. Now that we know all of the twelve children, we can get into a more 'into it' plot. The parents (played by Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt) now need to learn to say goodbye to a few of their children. One is going off to college, another is leaving for Huston and some of the others are becoming distant teenagers. The Bakers decide a family vacation is what they really need, so it's off to the lake. There, the father, Tom Baker, meets his old Rival, Jimmy Murtaugh (played by Eugene Levy). The two begin to make their families compete to see who is the better father, and the better family. At times, Levy's character's competitiveness is just plain annoying, but the thickness of this personality flaw lightens as we get closer to the end.Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, again, play their roles with enthusiasm and Eugene Levy's style is just what his character calls for.Cheaper provides comedy for kids mostly, but the adults in the audience can get a few good laughs as well. A great family comedy.

I think it's cute

This is a watchable family movie that will keep the kids entertained and the parents won't be tempted to tear their eyes out, just like its predecessor in this set. Set several years after the first "Cheaper by the Dozen," in this one, the Baker family goes to the lake for one last family summer vacation before some of the older kids start their lives away from home. Steve Martin is as good as ever and Bonnie Hunt adds wit and flair. Eugene Levy steals many scenes with his over-the-top character acting. And I don't know about you, ladies and gentlemen, but even if the rest of the movie was terrible (which it isn't) I'd still watch it for the eye candy that Tom Welling provides. And for those who would rather, there's Carmen Electra, whose acting has improved since her "Baywatch" days. Overall the movie is very cute, wholesome and sweet - an excellent way to spend a rainy afternoon with the kids.

Relaxing vacation...are you kidding?

They're back. The Baker family, headed by Tom(Steve Martin)and Kate(Bonnie Hunt), decides to gather a multi interest family together for a vacation...a memorable vacation. The Baker's decide to revisit Lake Winnetka Resort and find it is practically all owned by Tom's long-time rival, Jimmy Murtaugh(Eugene Levy). These competitive childhood friends drag their families into a summer not to be forgotten. Situational and slapstick comedy dominates. This movie is very predictable. Crude humor and just plain silly. Was the first one worth a sequel? Also in the cast: Hilary Duff, Jaime King, Tom Welling and Alyson Stoner.

This movie is even better then the first!

this movie is even better then the first! i saw it 3 times in a row! you should toataly get this is you liked this first one!in this movie the entire family(with bud and nora) go to this lake. at the like tom sees his childhood enimy and the 2 familys are compeeting for the labor day cup. sarah has a crush on one of the boys from the other family and tom is not happy about that.

Not the best family comedy but watchable (with family or similar company)

posted on 09 Jul 2009

This movie is as stereotypical as a family comedy can get in fact we have seen so many similar roles from Steve Martin in family comedies that one cannot honestly expect much from such films and indeed i went into this movie(as the company demanded i see a pg rated film) expecting as much. The good part about the whole thing is that family comedies follow fool proof formulas and as such it is rare to find a bad one. So we have the summer release the 2 hot teens, one hot mom (carmen Electra looked spectacular), the overzealous and protective dad, the childhood romance etc etc you get what I'm saying right. The acting of this movie is good with special mention for Steve Martin who is a regular comedy dad and even though brings nothing new to the film at least insures you never get bored. Eugene Levy also does a good job playing the eccentric dad of the rival family. Carmen Electra i realised is actually a good actress and looks great in this movie. However former preteen-queen Hilary duff looked way to thin and quite ugly. The jokes of the film mostly squeaky clean although there is some much appreciated jokes for the adults that are so needed in this film. Particularly funny is the scene where the dog spoils the elaborate lunch, the take on another famous creature movie was hilarious. The film is filled with funny moments that will make you smile maybe force a half laugh but no scene is fall out your seat funny. The film also serves the regular family fare with ease but almost every scene looks run of the mill and there is nothing new to add to film in the family-comedy-drama department. Being from India i found the father following his child on a date quite funny and something which i can actually picture someone who i know doing. The movie is absolute run of the mill affair and loosed out on the novelty value that the first one enjoyed. However it serves the regular enjoyable family fare.Watch it only if the company (family, going with friend and his girl friend for the first movie hehe) requires that you watch such a film.

Cheaper by the Dozen 2

Thank goodness this one is just so so so much better than the remake of "Yours Mine and Ours", that one is inevitably going to compare "Cheaper by the Dozen 2" to, given that both stories claim to involve comedy and rather large families. The difference? "Cheaper by the Dozen" is a much better movie, at the very least due to it's significantly lower rating on the Cringing At Overbaked Cheesiness Scale. Acting, storyline, are much more realistic and believable in this movie, and make the characters very sweet and endearing to the audience. Can't say the same about "Yours, mine and ours", unfortunately.Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, and Eugene Levy really make this show great. It's as if the parts were written just for them - if you try to imagine other actors playing the same roles, the resulting movie could've been disastrous. If you have kids/grandkids/siblings/cousins/rathersmallhyperactivechildren that you need to bring to the movies this Christmas, you might as well bring them to this one: it's fairly good.

awesome

this movie was the best of 05. you should take your kids to see it. it was hilarious when Eugene levy and Steve martin fight ed. you have to see this. i think this is the perfect family film. i would give it 2 thumbs way up. i also like the story. it had a awesome plot. it was even better than the first.you would be crazy if you didn't want to see this. Steve Martin try's to be a cool dad but his not.Everyoone thinks Eugene Levy is the cool dad. he goes water skiing and all the other outdoor sports. i thought this movie was going to be bad. but it was hilarious. i never have laughed so hard. i thought this movie was going to be dumb but is wasn't. i am going to see it a second time. so if you are bored this Christmas you have to see this movie.

An Enjoyable Movie

I am a huge fan of Steve Martin so I was ACTUALLY looking forward to seeing Cheaper by the Dozen 2. It really is a typical family movie sequel; it wasn't a deep and meaningful film which made it more enjoyable for a cheap laugh. Unfortunately, unlike its predecessor - Cheaper by the Dozen – there were fewer laughable jokes.Steve Martin wasn't at his brilliant best, but still good enough to warrant a good result. Bonnie Hunt was superb and had a few good calls. Eugene Levy played an excellent "Nasty" Dad. The less I say of Carmen Electra, the better. The Kids from both sides were reasonable with the Youngest Baker twin boys the standouts.I wasn't particularly pleased with the ending and I thought the movie was set up for the Bakers to win the cup and then make up later with the Murtaughs. All in all don't expect the greatest comedy ever made but it definitely was an enjoyable movie and an "ACCEPTABLE" sequel.

Cheaper by the Dozen 2

The first film was a near good return for the lead actor, and this sequel from director Adam Shankman (The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember, Bringing Down the House) is no different to it's predecessor. Basically Tom Baker (Steve Martin) and wife Kate (Jumanji's Bonnie Hunt) feel they are losing some of their (older) kids as they get ready to leave for their own lives, e.g daughter Nora (Piper Perabo), now married to Bud McNulty (Jonathan Bennett) and expecting a baby, Lorraine (Razzie nominated Hilary Duff) is getting ready to go to New York for an internship with Vogue, and son Charlie (Smallville's Tom Welling) is leaving (I think for college or whatever). So Tom thinks it would be a good idea if he and Kate take all twelve kids on a camping vacation, and would have been perfect if Tom wasn't in an old rivalry with ultra-competitive neighbour Jimmy Murtaugh (American Pie's Razzie nominated Eugene Levy), with wife Sarina (Carmen Electra) and their eight kids. It is obviously when trying to make themselves look better, or trying to the make the Murtaugh's look foolish where all the disaster comes from, so Tom and Jimmy decide to settle it once and for all in a family sports day, and thank goodness both families can't beat each other when daughter Nora has her water break. Also starring Sin City's Jaime King as Anne Murtaugh, Taylor Lautner as Eliot Murtaugh, Alyson Stoner as Sarah Baker, Small Soldiers' Jacob Smith as Jake Baker, Liliana Mumy as Jessica Baker, Morgan York as Kim Baker, Kevin G. Schmidt as Henry Baker, Forrest Landis as Mark Baker, Brent and Shane Kinsman as twins Nigel and Kyle Baker, Blake Woodruff as Mike Baker, Alexander Conti as Kenneth Murtaugh, Melanie Tonello as Becky Murtaugh, Robbie Amell as Daniel Murtaugh, Courtney Fitzpatrick as Lisa Murtaugh, Madison Fitzpatrick as Robin Murtaugh and Shawn Roberts as Calvin Murtaugh. I think this is worth seeing for the funny chaotic events of young children, and Martin and Levy having their disagreements. Okay!

Surprisingly Good

posted on 20 May 2009

Although comedies generally don't make very good movies, this movie was surprisingly good. I went to this movie thinking that, like the first one, it would be horrible, but I ended up liking it. I guess it was because I could actually relate do some of the things that happened to the kids. I also just didn't like the first "Cheaper by the Dozen". I just liked the characters more in this one, and the addition of another family to the movie I think made it more interesting, as this meant that there were more characters. I also thought that it was a little more funny (example: a part with the main character working on the dock near the house they rented, while another part the dock falls apart behind him, sending part of his family floating away from shore), and I liked the setting more. I also thought that the ending was nicer than the first movie.

Funny!!!!!

My husband and I saw this in the theaters, and we laughed and laughed. Steve Martin and Eugene Levy play off each other in great comedic fashion as two competing dads. Why haven't these two been teamed together until now? Carmen Electra is good as Levy's surprisingly-compassionate trophy wife. Cheaper by the Dozen serves up plenty of sweet moments, but none that cross the line into syrupy schmaltz.

oh dear...

yeah - not a good film. I really enjoyed the first Cheaper By the Dozen yet in my opinion the second film was a complete waste of money, time and talent. There was absolutely no need for people with a lot of talent such as Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt and Hilary Duff - to even consider making a second film. This was not good. The plot line and the idea though is quite good - a final family holiday for the baker family yet i think it is totally ruined by the addition of the murtaugh family and the rivalry between them is totally pointless and stupid. Just good Baker family chaos would have been good, yet obviously they felt the need to add totally pointless characters into the plot line. The jokes though are not funny - it became cheesy and really over the top and full of stupid gags that are really scraping the barrel just to get a few laughs in. Overall - not a good movie!

Unimpressed

posted on 14 Apr 2009

This was a typical pratfall-based "comedy" whose plot was so obvious that I could have fallen asleep after 10 minutes and still told you the outcome. Steve Martin can do much better but he's going to have to avoid these stale offerings if he's going to continue to be known as a decent entertainer. Not terribly impressive. The "tearjerker" ending was weak (I try to avoid the word pathetic) and having these two families resolve their differences in the maternity ward was an insult to the intelligence of the average viewer. Message to the producers: Puuhlease . . . try to pitch your story at a moderately intelligent audience.
