Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad..............
posted on 23 Aug 2009Wow. This was bad. The only redeeming quality was the babes in the tight leather pants. Take those scenes and those girls out of this clunker and you quite possibly have the worst movie ever made. But Tyra did look good.....Would I recommend it? - sure, if nothing else for the visuals, which is really the only reason this film was made. It's sort of like Maxim magazine on film. Just watch it with the sound off, maybe while listening to a good CD. Believe me, you won't miss anything.
More yelp than howl
posted on 17 Aug 2009A certain moneymaker given the heavy marketing campaign, COYOTE UGLY has just enough plot to make the time spent worthwhile. Of course, the ads hardly make plot a consideration.
But plot there surprisingly is, as well as an unexpectedly big role by John Goodman and surprisingly small roles by the Coyote Ugly staff. This is not a COCKTAIL redux-it's not about bartending per se--but a story about making it in the big city. It's closer to THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS or the even cheesier ICE CASTLES than anything Tom Cruise starred in.
And that's what made it satisfying for me. For once, teasers didn't really give away much of the plot-even if they did show what everyone is probably watching the film for. Though we're ultimately let down by an ending in which every emotional ball the writer was juggling fell into place in 5 minutes, the set-up is enjoyable and even funny in parts.
See it expecting nothing and you'll be rewarded. But you'll still probably wonder if there wasn't a more interesting way to get a Coyote up on a bar.
Older Teen Flick
posted on 14 Aug 2009This movie is cool. In addition to flying beer bottles, there is a plot. It's about Violet Sanford, a small town girl who wants to sell her songs in the big city. She doesn't want to sing them, she has stage fright. But when a robbery leaves her broke, without a job, and without prospects in the big city, she gets a job as sassy, spunky Jersey, a barkeep at the trendy Coyote Ugly. Will she give up her dreams for a little adrenaline-laced bottle-flipping? Or will her new job give her the confidence she needs to succeed?
Good Idea Hollywoodized
posted on 14 Aug 2009This film is based upon a true story based upon a bar in NYC. Too bad they had to Hollywoodize the main character. It comes off in total more like a female version of the male bar movie Cocktail. The main female lead character role seems like she was based upon a real person, but then her phobia seems to be manipulated in order to pull in the viewer. This manipulation insults the viewer and treads too far from the main story. The main story here should be the bar. There are times when the bar almost takes over. If it had, instead of having a contrived story based upon truth, the story would have rang more true and been a much better film. It could have been closer to televisions CHEERS where ultimately, the bar always was the focus. The things to watch for are the women who are good looking, and a solid workman like performance from John Goodman. There is half a chick flick here as young chicks might enjoy this though older woman sleep through it. The music is good including the talented LeeAnn Rhymes. This helps it avoid being awful, but there is no real classic material in this one.

one reason and one reason only...
posted on 08 Aug 2009I can honestly think of only one reason to watch this movie that I have just suffered through: John Goodman. I found John Goodman's performance affective and moving, however, his role generally had little effect on the rest of the picture. Beyond Goodman's moments we are left to drudge through a female-lead rehash of "Cocktail", which was one of the worst movies of the last twenty years, so that's not a good thing. Viewers beware: bartenders don't make interesting lead characters. Then there's a fair amount of "Flashdance" tossed in there, except instead of an aspiring dancer, we have aspiring songwriter. There's also the fact that this was such a tame movie that was trying to be sexy and scandalous and according to the DVD, it was also trying to be a comedy. Where did I miss that? The only thing funny about it was the overacting and the possible Kevin Smith inclusion (uncredited writer on this) of the "special edition" comic book, which was cute but quite out of place. What a mess!
Fun fun film
posted on 31 Jul 2009A fun film from the Jerry Bruckheimer factory, this one has Piper Perabo (last seen in "Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle") as a small town girl who travels to the big city of New York as an aspiring songwriter with stage fright and winds up working at the title bar, a place where supermodels dance on the bar and spray beer at the customers (and each other)... What can you really say about this film? It's story is essentially the standard small town girl makes good in the big city fable... but heck.. I really liked this movie anyways.. One of those guilty pleasure kinda things. :) GRADE: A-
not what I thought
posted on 28 Jul 2009very cool and touching movie. Not at all what you would
think from the title. I loved it. Buying it so we can
watch it again and again. It is one of my favorite
movies along with Matrix and the first part of
Blade. Go figure that one out if you dare.
Try it. I think you will love it. We did. My wife
and I both thought this move was very cool. Good mix
of dance, singing, drama and love with some comedy
thrown in too. And a few surprises along the way.
BORING!!!!
posted on 27 Jul 2009How many ways do I loathe thee? Let us count....1,2 skip a few 44 skip some more, ONE MILLION!!! Boring movie aimed at teen girls about so called dancers but never do they show any skin! It is boring, the worst acting imaginable, and they got the title wrong 'It should have really be called - These girls are as ugly as coyotes. The film is sappy, to such an extent it becomes painful to watch. If you are a teeny bopper rent it with American Pie and have the time of your life, if not stay clear!!!
These chicks are hot
posted on 27 Jul 2009The only reason I saw this movie is because the chicks are hot. I consider this a chick flick for girls that don't know what good acting is. But what could be better than Tyra Banks, and all these other hot chicks in a bar "dancing", nothing of course. Very poor acting though and very lame plot; it's about a girl from New Jersey(REPRESENTING) who wants to leave the small town and go to New York City to be a singer. But in the meanwhile she gets a full time job as a "coyote", a slang name for a woman that works at a popular bar called Coyote Ugly. The bar brings beer, hot chicks, and great music, and another situation she has to deal with is a new boyfriend. The movie is horrible but I prefer seeing this movie than seeing BattleField Earth, in which you didn't know......it's probably one of the worst movies made in film.
I give this Coyote Ugly a 4 out of 10.
Fair to middling
posted on 23 Jul 2009First of all, this movie was VERY derivative of Cocktail. I don't mind movies borrowing plot elements from other films but Coyote Ugly went a bit far. Also, I found the characters and situations totally implausible. You have this guy who works these odd jobs and yet somehow manages to afford a really cool convertible. Yeah, sure. I didn't think there was much chemistry between Piper Perapo and Adam Garcia and none of the characters were really developed enough so that the viewer could care about them. In summary, except for a few laughs, I really didn't care much for this movie.
Funny but for the wrong reasons!
posted on 07 Jul 2009Coyote Ugly is essentially an after school special about a younggirl named Violet who leaves home to pursue her music career inNew York City. Violet, played by Piper Perabo, soon gets hired atCoyote Ugly, an infamous New York bar know for it's sexy dancingbartendars. Plot cliches are served up fatser than the on screencocktails. The performances (especially those of Perabo, TyraBanks, Maria Bello, and an embarrassing John Goodman) arelaughabley over dramatic. Coyote Ugly is so tawdry, sappy, andbrain dead that it becomes hysterically funny. Watch out for ascene where Perabo stops a bar fight by performing a Blondiesong!! I dare you not to snicker at a scene where John Goodman's"inspirational" speech to Perabo from his hospital bed. If you canenjoy a campy cheese fest, then rent this film. If you're looking forsomething more intellectual, avoid this film and go to a real bar!
great classic love story
posted on 06 Jul 2009This flim was a great surprise. It was not about women just dancing on a bar but rather a wonderful love story.PiperPerabo who has that I know I saw her somewhere face.Did a perfect 10 as Jeresy girl who moves the 42 miles to NY to be a song writer.Upon realizingthe reality of her dreams she meets MR.O'Donall played by a very good actor Adam Garcia. This sets up the classic romantic comedy flim.In the course of jeresy girl trying to make it.She takes a job as a coyote.A coyote is a hot sexy women who get the toddler in a males pants to come alive. It does have sexy women dancing on a bar but it is more toned to piper chasing her dreams. This is a romantic comedy set in NY with the club as a back drop.John Goodman also stars as Pipers father.Must see for fans of sleepless in seattle, you've got mail , affair to remember and while you were sleeping.

Good Picture-Great Audio
posted on 31 Aug 2009I was not so impressed with the video quality. It was a bit grainly, but better than the DVD copy. Blu-ray gives you the newer lossless sound that will rock your world. You will feel like you are in the bar.
I recommend this because of the sound quality and it is worth the upgrade if you like this movie.
