Can you say "Grinch"?
posted on 18 Aug 2009I was channel flipping and I came across this movie which I'd seen a few times before, and had never liked. Then later on, channel flipping again, I came across the Grinch (the Jim Carrey version). I realized that 8 crazy nights is nothing more than a really stupid, twisted version of the Dr. Seuss classic. You have the grouchy, miserable guy living on his own because of some awful thing that happened during his childhood, and then a cute little person somehow persuades them to take part in their respective holiday, then they go and ruin the holiday and then make it all good again and htey become happy and everyone lives happily ever after. It's really the exact same story, but this is a perverted, stupid Jewish version.
I liked it!
posted on 14 Aug 2009I've noticed this movie is getting bashed pretty hard. However, I enjoyed the movie very much. I believe this is one of Adam Sandler's better movies. It had some hilarious characters. It's not exactly the best Holiday movie, but it is a very funny comedy that I would recommend to people who enjoy Adam Sandler's sense of humor.
Underrated Haunukah movie
posted on 04 Aug 2009Rated PG-13 for frequent crude and sexual humor, drinking and brief drug references There are plenty of Christmas movies out there but very few Haunukah movies. This is an animated Hanukkah movie starring Adam Sandler. It has a low score on IMDb but I think its a pretty good film.It has some very funny moments but also drama and some catchy songs as well. The film is basically about a drunk loud-mouth who is forced to help coach the Jewish basketball team with a loving coach named Whitey who wants tow in this coaching award before he retires. The man used to be a nice boy until his parents died and then he became what he was.Eight Crazy Nights is a funny and good Haunukah film and Sandler fans should check it out.
It almost hurts Punch-Drunk Love
posted on 21 Jul 2009In "Punch-Drunk Love", under the guidance of P.T. Anderson, Adam Sandler used his usual shtick to create a touching character, and threw everyone a curveball. The harshest of critics who hated Sandler loved it, and the most idiotic of Sandler fans hated or ignored it. The perception of Adam Sandler had changed for the more sophisticated movie going audience, Sandler was a real actor who could make good movies. A little more than a month later, all of the talk of Adam Sandler being a true actor and the speculation of an Oscar nomination have been erased from memory, thanks to the release of "Eight Crazy Nights".Adam Sandler provides the voice for Davey Stone, the resident drunk, jerk and nuisance for the small town of Dukesberry. On the first night of Hannukah, Davey gets drunk and leads the police on a wild trashcan lid and snowmobile chase through the town, vandalizing a lot of things, including two giant ice sculptures along the way. The judge is fed up, and for Davey's last chance, he has to help referee youth basketball games, and do a good job of it, or he will be shipped away to prison for 10 years.Whitey (another character voiced by Sandler), a short old man with a heart of gold, has been paired with Davey. He's been calling the fouls down at the community center for over 30 years. This being his last season, he hopes to win the 35th Annual All-Star Patch for dedication and service to the youth basketball program. Davey is a huge jerk to him. Davey constantly makes fun of Whitey, leaves him in his car stuck in the snow and shoves him down the hill in an outhouse. But Whitey sees the light in Davey that he once saw in him when he was a 12-year-old basketball prodigy a long time ago.I have to admit I actually cared for the character of Whitey. This is a character that does nothing but good for the residents of Dukesberry, making ends meet for himself and his twin sister by doing odd jobs around the town, never getting paid more than a dollar. Whitey is the closest thing to resembling anything associated with true holiday spirit in "Eight Crazy Nights", but he is the subject of cruelty by Davey and the butt of the worst jokes in the movie. And when I say jokes, I mean moronic sight gags that are considered high-brow if the bodily fluid they revolve around is snot.Sitting through this awful movie, I constantly wondered how Adam Sandler could attach his name to something this stupid. So here's the reasoning I came up with, Adam Sandler has is credited for coming up with the story. This means that Sandler handed a list of rejected jokes from all of his other movies and albums to the Paramount hired team of screenwriters (whom I'm sure can write really good films if people were interested in seeing them instead of "Eight Crazy Nights") and told them to do their best. And since this is a movie being released at the start of the holiday shopping season in most mall multiplexes around the country, there are real mall stores in the mall everyone frequents in the small town of Dukesberry. You know a movie is bad when you overhear this on the way out of the theater: `The worst part was when the Foot Locker logo started signing!' Oh well, at least we have "Punch-Drunk Love" to know what Sandler can do.Grade: D-
"Two Incredibly Horrible Hours"
posted on 21 Jun 2009Thats my new name for the title of the film. I cant even begin to imagine what Columbia Pictures was thinking when they agreed to this film. Only reason is two words, "Adam Sandler."The film starts with Davey (voice of Adam Sandler) going on a muck through town on the first night of Hanukkah. Next scene is Davey in court...with the judge ranting how he has tried everything and nothing has worked. In real life, this is where Davey would be going to jail. But in movie land this judge has one soft spot left for Davey (and we dont find out WHY until almost the end of the film). The judge allows Whitey, a kindly old man (also narrated by Sandler), to try to straighten out Davey.Sandler is incredibly popular - and has had some hilarious movies in the past, that is what made me want to see "8 Crazy Nights." But I was appalled by this film. It seems like it is that kid trying to hard to fit in with the popular group. In the film, everything is in reference to Hanukkah, and it seems Sandler is trying to introduce us to Jewish. But the film fails miserably as it is so hostile and violent. There was very little laughter in the theatre, mostly silence. My advise is to save your money, and rent this one on dvd. Or if you Sandler-its cant wait that long see it at the dollar theatre in a few weeks, I'm sure it will be there soon.
Obviously, many people missed the point completely.
posted on 19 Jun 2009If you're not an Adam Sandler fan, you will not like this movie. Period. If you claim to be a fan because you like one or two of his movies, don't bother. If you've followed his career since Saturday Night Live, and have always been a fan, you will absolutely love this movie. This movie is classic Sandler. His first animated feature, Adam was obviously having a lot of fun with this one and the humor is right along the lines of Happy Gilmore, and Billy Madison, the very movies that rocketed Adam Sandler into the success he is today. If you can see the humor in a midget seizing while saying, "This is the happiest day of my life," deer laughing so hard poop shoots out their backsides, and classic Adam Sandler songs like those he got his start with (if you know and love "Lunch Lady Land") this movie is for you. This movie is chocked full of one-liners, and senseless humor that is 100% Adam Sandler, and absolutely hilarious. There's surprisingly a plot hidden in there that's actually interesting enough to get you involved, but watch it for the classic Sandler fun.If you like classic Sandler, I can't recommend this movie enough.
funny movie (i'm no sandler fanatic)
posted on 11 Jun 2009I saw this movie a year or so ago on television. I had never even heard of it before but when I sat down to watch it I thought it was a pretty funny movie that did a good job of capturing the holiday spirit. I see that there are a lot of sandler enthusiasts on here who think this movie sucks because they have to compare this movie with all of his other work. I don't think I would even place a movie like this in the same critical category as his other films. With that being said I thought the movie was original in perspective and outright hilarious. Whitey Duvall makes me laugh every time I see his odd shaped feet and hear his squeaky voice. This film has a pretty mature sense of humor and wouldn't be suitable for small children but if you have teenagers i think it's great for a family laugh.
Eight Crazy Nights Review
posted on 09 Jun 2009Eight Crazy Nights is a film about Davey Stone, he was a nice young man until his life took a turn for the worst. His parents died in a tragic car accident, leaving him alone. 30-years later, Davey Stone has turned from sweet, gentle boy to a crude drunk that makes everybody's holiday as horrible as it can get. Whitey Duvall came rushing to his side, saving him from a 10 year prison sentence. Whitey Duvall and his sister, Elanore welcome Davey into their home. Whitey and Elanore are twins, with Whitey having his right foot bigger than his left, (in the locker room scene, he says the following; "Mens 11 right foot, children's 9 left foot. At your service"), Elanore is the opposite, her LEFT foot his bigger than her RIGHT.My favorite scene are "Long Ago" and "Bum Biddy".Overall, I give this movie a 10 out of 10.
A chopsuey concoction of the bad, the ugly and the smelly...
posted on 04 Apr 2009Written and produced by Adam Sandler, this musical comedy has abundance of bizarre moments as we watch a man in his 30s attempting to redeem himself. It's a movie that seems to poke fun at the helpless, forsaken child and the elderly, and 'chopsuey' their reactions with stinky ingredients. Deadly foul! Yep, practically a warped, sappy comedy that contains loads of filthy language and vulgar bathroom humor! Just watch out for the ill-mannered Davey guy matching his gross skits with his elderly pint-sized 'Magoo look-alike' basketball mentor. Story line and characters are heavy with irks - although some of the jab-lines in the musical dialogue will heave some guilty-pleasure smiles! Overall, the flick is downright pretentious, sick and insane, smothered with distasteful scenes and themes. It atrociously stinks - despite some truly good and crisp animation and scene settings! If anyone is looking to celebrate a festive season with visually graphic lessons on alcoholism, bowel secretions, this may be the film to watch. I actually didn't care at the end whether Davey was able to fight off his internal demons at the end! Nope, I found the tale about the child rather predictable and therefore the end twist seems rather lame... even with its attempt to seek the finale applause for the redemption of Davey. Most likely, this flick will depend on Sandler's fans to help keep it lasting more than 8 crazy days at the theater. Worst animated tale of the year! Truthfully, can anyone ever take Adam Sandler seriously after this movie?
It's Not So Bad
posted on 27 Mar 2009Possibility of Spoilers, but not LikelyAdamn Sandler's animated film for the holidays 8 Crazy Nights never actually peeked my interest while in theaters. I felt it was a blockbuster rental and easily made the year long wait without any anticipation for viewing it. However it was worth the money to rent. 8 Crazy Nights reminded me of Sandler's older work such as Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison where Sandler just got together with some friends and made a crazy, yet funny film. Nights follows a troubled, middle aged, Jewish man named Stone who just can't seem to find that holiday spirit any more. After a night of washing away his problems with some booze Stone gets into some trouble with the law. Having the choice of either going to prison or working with Whitey, a local ref volunteer for the Youth Center, Stone reluctantly chooses the latter. With the hairy buns of Whitey and his bald sister Erma, Stone must try to find that holiday spirit before he lands in jail. What ensues are the wild and crazy attempts of Whitey to delve deep into the troubled mind of Stone to release the tales of his troubled youth. Of course with this film being involved with Happy Madison productions it will of course have gross toliet humor that Sandler is known for and may not be for young kids. But the film is filled with hilarious songs sang by Sandler, not to mention a majority of the character voices are his, and leaves you with a pleasant Christmas and Hanukah meaning at the end. Don't watch this film expecting some great animated adventure for the whole family, its Adam Sandler taking a step back from the more serious roles he has had of late. 8 Crazy Nights may not be for the whole family but it is just so crazy and pointless that you will be laughing on the floor. I give it a six out of ten
I hope this movie is tolerable with English sub-titles, but I doubt it.
posted on 25 Mar 2009Hopefully some horrible mishap in Tokyo involving English-language-challenged Sony execs can be blamed for the release of this most hideous example of mega-packed consumer-product-placement and lamely poddy-humor that would probably bore even the most attentive 2-year-old audience. Never before have I seen a musical dedicated to the underlying human principle of consumerism, with an emphasis on the good hearty American values that apparently originate at the local Shopping Mall.I want those two hours of my life back.Sony Pictures employees with any shred of self-respect should quit now in disgrace. (Even WBFA and Disney have never sunk THIS low.)
If this movie were a month, it would be Craptember.
posted on 15 Mar 2009Bar none, the absolute worst thing to which I have ever subjected myself. And that includes trips to the dentist. I have seen bad movies, we all have. "The Toxic Avenger" springs to mind, as does the more recent "Formula 51" with Samuel L. Jackson. Keen examples of celluloid gone to waste, but compared to Sandler's latest bomb, they are Oscar-worthy. I laughed about five times, and those included the three funny things that were in the previews. I went into this movie EXPECTING to see a bad movie full of juvenile pranks. I love potty-humor, am easily amused and tend to laugh at my own farts....and I still absolutely loathed this flick. I spent the majority of the time wondering exactly how much pot and LSD the entire writing crew was doing as they came up with this terrible story. This feature was an ego trip for Sandler, fellating himself with celluloid at our expense. If I were in any way associated with this production as either cast or crew, I would be ashamed to let people know of it. It was just B-A-D bad.
I can't even say "Eight Decent Jokes"
posted on 09 Mar 2009"Eight Crazy Nights", or "Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights", a crude animated film, shows comedian Adam Sandler in cartoon form. I'm no die-hard fan of his, but I think he can be funny, so I recently decided to check out this film, despite a lot of negative reviews. Well, guess what? Now I agree with those negative reviews. I'm sure this film had potential to be a decent comedy (like some of Sandler's live action films), and a good, touching holiday adventure as well, but it didn't really turn out to be either of these things, unfortunately.Davey Stone lives in the town of Dukesberry, New England. He is now in his early thirties, and is a nasty alcoholic with a bad reputation. Twenty years ago, he was basically the opposite, but something went horribly wrong! Now that he's so uncouth, he is known to cause trouble, and one December night, the first night of Hanukkah, he is arrested for leaving a restaurant without paying. He is sentenced to community service as an assistant referee for a youth basketball league, working for the head referee, Whitey Duvall. Since that was not Davey's first offence, he will be sentenced to ten years in prison if he breaks the law again! As the days of Hanukkah go by, and Christmas draws near, the good-natured Whitey tries to change Davey's ways, but is there any hope?! Adam Sandler provides the voice for Davey, who looks just like him, as well as the voices for Whitey and his sister, Eleanore. Personally, I found Whitey's voice maybe not quite irritating, but close, and I think I found Eleanore's voice fairly irritating. Those voices, however, certainly didn't ruin the entire experience for me. The main problem with "Eight Crazy Nights" is that as a comedy, it's pretty lame. I do not recall ever laughing, and recall smiling only a couple times, one of them being when Davey tells his car not to stay up too late. Whitey having seizures - not funny! Whitey covered in fecal matter - not funny! Reindeer licking ice and feces off of him - not funny! People laughing so hard that they shoot out snot while reindeer outside laugh so hard at the same joke that they shoot out feces - not funny! Some of these gags put a puzzled look on my face, or grossed me out a bit! The film is a somewhat touching at times, especially around the end, and if it wasn't for that, I think I would give it a lower rating than the already low 4.I have no problem with the premise or animation here. Like I said, the main problem with this film is the lame humour. I'm certainly NOT irked by all crude, tasteless humour. Since this is a case where that kind of humour is used in animation, I feel I should mention that "South Park" has made me laugh hard numerous times! However, when crude humour is not funny, it can be frighteningly bad (like when those hacks, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer do it), and that is sometimes the case in "Eight Crazy Nights", or if not, it sometimes comes very close! Knowing that Jon Lovitz had a voice-over role in this film, I am reminded of Jay Sherman, his character in the short-lived cartoon series, "The Critic" (a good show, in my opinion), and the character's catchphrase, "It stinks." I really think that catchphrase, though simple, is a good one to use to describe this movie. Without a doubt, "Eight Crazy Nights" marked a low point in Sandler's career.
Very freaking hilarious
posted on 07 Mar 2009Adam sandler is one hell of a legend when it comes to comedy. He does music and movies, and i think he might have done stand-up. But this movie, wasn't exactly what i expected. i thought it was just a pure comedy. instead it turned out to be an Adam sandler musical. which was even better.Adam sandler plays as Davey stone, a 33 year old juvenile delinquent who has nothing better to do, other than ruin other peoples lives. for 20 years he went to places that tried to reform him, but it never worked. so one day, after being busted for being drunk, he has only one chance - to be reformed by whitey, a 71 year old referee for the youth basketball league. it's a long ride of prank after prank, to going back to the reason why he started acting like a delinquent in the first place.Note to parents: this movie should not be rated PG (Canadian rating, but i'm sure it was PG-13 in the states) because there was a lot of bad bathroom humor. And some light sexual humor. plus a lot of bad language. but what else can you expect from Adam sandler? one last thing. for all of you who don't listen to your parent's instruction, watch the movie.10/10
Only an idiot would not like this movie
posted on 05 Mar 2009Anyone who didn't like this film is mentally handicapped and should go back to first grade. I am sick of everyone trying to take adam sandler seriously. The guy doesn't even take himself seriously. His movies are meant to be immature fun, not epic oscar worthy films. Get over yourselves and admit that this was a funny movie with a good heart and hilarious music. See this movie!
An absolute abortion
posted on 19 Feb 2009This film was the tip of the iceberg. It reaches a level of awful that actually surpasses XXX and Die another Day.What they hell is going on with movies the past few months. They are all absolutely horrible!!!Save you money and watch the SnoopyChristmas special if you want good holiday cheer. Now to combine the two film series that still carry revelance:"Help me 'The Two Towers', your my only hope."
Don't listen to those *haters*
posted on 07 Feb 20098 Crazy Nights was SOoOoOoO funnny!!!! If this movie didn't make you laugh, then you must be dead inside... or something to that effect. This movie really cracked me up, and now I want the DVD. I was actually a bit skeptical when it started, but the plot builds up nicely ((and even has a nice/touching moral that goes with it)) and its just *non-stop* laughs. Adam Sandler is pure genius. He really did a good job with this.Oh, and don't be turned off by the ONE poop joke, it's really not that horrible. I hope everyone gives this movie a chance; I really can't see how some people didn't like it. But oh well, I recommend it to everyone with a good sense of humor. God bless!
Run for your life!
posted on 24 Jan 2009I can't conjure up enough bad things to say about this "film." We were conned into renting the DVD under the impression it was some kind of holiday fare -- which it isn't -- and my 12-year-old was more appalled by it than I was. Imagine Adam Sandler as an alcoholic, sociopathic, self-loathing moron. (Well, that's not too difficult, I guess, considering his other movie roles.) But then imagine him using this personality to note his Jewish heritage during Hanukkah. He spouts every evil, vicious emotion that humanity can produce as well as the usual array of toilet references. I will not insult your intelligence by describing the action further, other than to say it is irredeemably, indescribably bad. It is so bad that it makes you wonder how anyone could consider this entertainment. Run from this movie before it scars your corneas, or you will witness a vivid moment of the agonizing death of cinema -- all at the hand of Adam Sandler!
Funny as heck!
posted on 20 Jan 2009Now a lot of people don't like this film,I don't know why. This film is funny as heck. When this film came out,I amit I did had a problem seeing Adam in a cartoon. The commericals made it seem G rated. So I brothered not to see it.Then all of a sudden 12 months later. It finally hits video, and my teacher, who loves Adam Sandler, snuck it in to our class for christmas films.I was shock to see how good it was. This film is good for a cartoon. The comedy was gross, which shock the hell out of me,it should of been R rated with the crusing and crude hurmor. It's like watching Scary Movie without the strong language and sexual hurmor, just the crude hurmor. And trust me it's crude alright.A true fan of Adam will love this. And I'm an true fan.I even loved Punch Drunk Love, which is Adam's best role ever to me.

Adam Sandler at his best
posted on 22 Aug 2009This is Adam Sandler's best and funniest movie. It's pure genius humor. All the one-liners and jokes made me laugh really hard. I going to buy the movie and the soundtrack but I can never seem to find either of them in stores. I'm going to have to get them off the internet because I really want to buy them. I'd Give Eight Crazy Nights an 8 out of 10. There was some gross stuff and swearing, but still, it was hilarious."I wonder if that guy ever wiped with the wrong hand?" "Yes." "Bum biddy biddy biddy biddy...."
