This movie rocks!
posted on 20 Aug 2009THIS MOVIE CONTAINS SPOILERS: READ AT YOUR OWN DECISION.I must say this movie is funny from start to end. The movie is about a high school graduate (Scott Mechlowicz) who is dumped by his girlfriend (Kristen Kreuk) on graduation day. From there the movie even gets funnier! He goes to a graduation party with some friends and a song played by (Matt Damon) called Scotty doesn't know. Scott in the mean while has this Internet friend name Mieke who Scott thinks is a boy. So Scott decides he doesn't want anything to do with Mieke until he finds out his Internet buddy is a hot sexy Berlin chick from Germany. Scott and his friend Cooper go on this trip to Berlin when they begin this funny journey to find Mieke. While on this journey to find Mieke they travel through different parts of Germany. Any where from a robot fight, to the biggest sausage (penis) fest, to molestation on a train, to an Amsterdam dildo jab at club vandersexxx, to getting down and dirty in places you wouldn't think of getting your grind on. For those of you that liked the American Pie series and road trip, this movie is in your ally to watch. I give this movie 2 thumbs up. One of the funniest movies of 2004!
'Trip' not worth taking
posted on 18 Aug 2009Roger Ebert once said that, `Humor benefits from characterization, context, and continuity. Otherwise, all you have is a lot of people acting goofy.' There you go, that is Eurotrip, in a paltry, formulaic, and banal effort. Of course, that is what it is supposed to be. It is supposed to follow Road Trip and Old School in attempt to do one thing only, cash in. At least the best of this genre, American Pie, was able to give its characters emotions and thoughts within their hormones. I have no problem with predictability as long as it doesn't undermine the audience. Let me be laconic, Eurotrip is insulting in the worst way because the whole movie is plain goofiness.Scott Thomas (Scott Mechlowicz) has just graduated high school with his three best friends and girlfriend (Kristin Kreuk). Except one minute into the movie, his girlfriend dumps him. Heartbroken and crushed, he finds solace from his German friend Mieke (Jessica Boehrs) who he e-mails back and forth with. Interestingly, he thinks this friend is a guy named Mike. Then Scott's buddy Cooper (Jacob Pitts) tells him this pen pal could be one of those pedophilic freaks. In response, Scott sends Mieke a nasty e-mail, she blocks him from her e-mail, and a day later Scott realizes his full misfortune because Mieke is a very attractive young girl. Surprisingly, Scott and Cooper go to Europe to find Mieke. Amazingly enough, his twin friends, Jenny (Michelle Trachtenberg and Jamie (Travis Webster), were already visiting Europe for the summer and tag along for the ride.I'll be honest and tell you that I did laugh, once or twice. I'll be even more honest and tell you the times I did laugh didn't even involve the main characters. Is that a coincidence? Matt Damon had a noteworthy cameo as a lead singing rocker. That is as much praise the movie deserves. Scott Mechlowicz acted with absolutely no enthusiasm at all. He is undeserving of any attention because he acted like everything had been predetermined; he was robotic. The others seemed more inspired yet they can be easily dismissed as well. I feel sorry for the director, Jeff Schaffer, who also wrote the critically disdained The Cat in the Hat. One more strike and he's out. No, wait.I don't feel sorry for him at all. He should have known better. Alas, this is the entertainment industry today. In cinema, violence has always concerned me more than nudity ever has. This film makes me think twice with its tasteless amoral display. It is the worst of its kind. There is no originality, just recycled gags that finally feel like overused garbage. The tagline of this movie is, `No actual Europeans were harmed in the making of this film.' While that might be true, I'm just thinking about the Americans, like myself, who are going to be hurt beyond repair after seeing this abysmal train wreck.
Interesting
posted on 16 Aug 2009I saw this movie before few minutes.... It is really funny, that all trip across Europe was filmed in Prague - Czech republic. Berlin (the house of Mike) was square behind Village cinemas(Andel), Louvre is Rudolfinum (concert house), Amsterdam is houses along river Vltava in Kampa etc....All cities of Europe in one city:-)))) It was interesting to see what Americans think about Europeans...But I think, that Americans should to repeat knowledge of geography - when student doesn't know that UK is an island...I propose that all in this film is quite a fishing story, but something from the truth don't harm to that:-)) Plot is very simple but funny, I give 6/10
THE funniest movie EVER
posted on 06 Aug 2009I feel bad for the movie. The previews simply did not do it justice! It appears to be some sort of run off of Roadtrip, which was not half the laughs of Eurotrip. The acting is decent, the storyline may be weak, but it is the funniest movie I have seen and each of the six friends I saw it with agreed. This is no Oscar-winning debut for any of the young actors, but looking at the audience it is meant to appeal to, its a hit! The scenes flowed well, the jokes kept coming, I was rolling with laughter the entire time! The script is also nothing 'amazing' but each of the "places it runs off to" as the last person put it are wrapped up by the end and just as a humorous, college-aged movie should, leaves you feeling good and quoting funny lines from the film.I have never laughed that hard in my life!!!
Chill out...and enjoy
posted on 02 Aug 2009I've read many, many negative comments about EuroTrip, mostly from uneducated morons who would actually let a movie of this ilk affect their stances on people and social issues. Anyone with 1/2 of a brain can distinguish between this, and say..."Schindler's List." Eurotrip is FUNNY!! It sets out to be nothing more, and delivers nothing less. All the comments about how this movie bashes the people of many European nations obviously come from people who are offended way, way too easily. The stereotypes portrayed are far from realistic, and anyone who takes them seriously should maybe spend a little time away from their TV sets and computers and get out and experience a little LIFE!! To those who have a sense of humor, and just want to watch a movie that requires little thought but will deliver a whole bunch of laughs, check out EuroTrip!!!
Almost, but not quite (**1/2)
posted on 29 Jul 2009Surprisingly witty and often hilarious in the first 2/3, this raunchy comedy about 4 teenagers backpacking through Europe unfortunately unravels a bit in the end. Still worth seeing though, which is something I totally didn't expect. The 4 characters are (believe it or not) actually interesting and fun to spend the time with, and they are played by capable actors, with Jacob Pitts and Michelle Trachtenberg being especially impressive. There are many, many laugh-out-loud moments, a good soundtrack (probably the most clever use of Sheena Easton's "Morning Train" ever) and several good lines. But it just gets a little wearying in the end. Several scenes are overblown and frantic when it's clear a little subtlety would have been funnier.Still, much, MUCH better than I expected.
Wow this was bad
posted on 25 Jul 2009I went into this movie not expecting too much based on the trailers and the inexperienced actors, and I was still disappointed. Its tough to make a comedy with poor jokes and bad comedic actors. At least Road Trip had some laugh out loud moments, mostly courtesy of Seann William Scott, and a few sexy moments. Eurotrip honestly did not make me laugh once, and half way through I actually felt embarrassed for the people involved in this movie. Some of the scenes were just painfully unfunny and stupid(Cooper gets a girl to take her top off because she has a smudge on her boob, Scott fights the robot mime, when they go to the nudist beach and they actually show about 30 guys' members, and when they have sex in the confessional at the Vatican). Even the gratuitous boob shots and stereotype jokes were forced adn eye-roll inducing.I hate to bring this up, too, because I know that movies are an escape from reality and nitpicking some points that arent realistic is annoying, but there are some moments in this movie when the makers must think that the audience is a group of morons. 1. Scott and Cooper decide on a whim to go to Europe and find a girl penpal that Scott just realized he is in love with. Not a horrible premise, but the fact that Scott thought that his penpal was a guy for the previous year raises a few questions. Oh yeah, they also leave for Europe without telling their parents or employers. 2. The four friends get their passports stolen, yet they are still able to go from Berlin to Rome? 3. The Vatican guards dont lock the pope's bedroom or guard the bell rung to signify the pope is dead? There are a bunch of other ones but Im too tired to list them. All in all, a complete waste of time, and if I didnt get to see this movie for free, I would be more pissed that I wasted my money. Do yourselves a favor and rent Road Trip or Old School and actually enjoy some funny people. 1/10
It was very funny but could have been better
posted on 15 Jul 2009I am in my fifties (shock horror that old!) I have met many of the exaggerated stereotypes in the movie. Having traveled in the USA & Europe not as a teenager, I see where the writers are coming from. Americans in general are seen by Europeans as knowing only about the USA & believing everything people say, as their humour is not ironic. The situations which the students get themselves into are what in my opinion the writers would see students getting into. It could have been a lot funnier, but from a European point of view very tame as a there is much less censorship & shockability than in the USA. I am sure a lot of stuff was cut from the Amsterdam section (see outtakes at end of movie) for this reason. I have met British football (soccer) supporters in there own environment (& lived to tell the tail) The scenes were very well done as were the characters. a lot more could have been done with German truck drivers tastes but not in the USA! don't get me wrong I like & get on well with Americans but the attitudes & way of life of say a small town in the mid west & Amsterdam are so different that it would be impossible to show the movie uncut as I think it was intended, without a lynching! what students do & what parents think they do (American pie) or students think parents think are very different. I was young & was with a biker group a long time ago so have seen a few things that they would not even put in a European movie! my brother who on the other hand travels extensively in the USA & Europe on vacations but works In an officedid not find it at all funny, so maybe there is something wrong with me!
AN END ALL OF TEEN COMEDIES!
posted on 07 Jul 2009Euro trip doesn't offer anything especially new to the mix but doesn't end up being a very bad offering of those types of raunchy teen sex comedies. It certainly has a few suprising and hilarious moments one of them faturing Matt Damon as the lead singer of a rock band, one featuring a robot war, a brother and sister making out and some of them fall flat like one featuring tv superstar Lucy Lawless. The film is just a basic ridiculous setup an attractive young man loses his girlfriend on the day of graduation and decides to hightail it to Europe with his friends when his penpal he's been writing for years end up being a sexy young woman. The film is pretty basic and doesn't stray much from the path at all. But it does suceed in being lowbrow entertainment passing the time effectively and with maybe not a memorable streak but at least not an offensively bad one. The comic performances from the cast fall preety flat, they're not particularly bad actors they just don't seem right for the material. And all of the charachters and actors seem to be drawn stereotypes of other, better comedians. So in conclusion I must say don't rush out and see Eurotrip but an afternoon viewing while you're bored will help the time move along just a little quicker. However this still stands as an end to all of the teen comedies. It appears this formaula has run of gas thank god and gone out with a semi bang!
Fun in Europe
posted on 01 Jul 2009I didn't see this movie at the cinema but I saw it when it came out on DVD and I have to say it was by far the funniest movie I had seen in 2004. Being a huge fan of the American Pie movies I thought this was the next best thing. The funniest bit would have to be with Lucy Lawless though and what happened the day after. I won't say anything though. It showed just how much fun and trouble you can get into on a trip around Europe. This was also the first movie I have seen with Michelle Tractenberg since her Buffy days. Being a HUGE Buffy fan I try to see all the casts movies. She was great. I wonder though if some more well known people were cast could it have been better. All in all it was a hilarious movie and I'd see it again.
Fantastic Movie
posted on 25 Jun 2009I went into this movie expecting it to be a horrible sequel to the horrible movie, RoadTrip. I was figuring that the company responsible for the movie was simply seeking to make some monetary profits at the expense of viewers. This view was amplified due to the horrific previews for the MTV movie, The Perfect Score, expecting this to be similar in quality.I was in for a pleasant surprise. Though the movie is not perfect, being downright offensive at times, it is fantastically funny. There is a great deal of nudity involved in this movie, including female breasts and rears as well as male genatalia. Nevertheless, the nudity amplifies the movie, as opposed to detracting from it. I would recommend this comedy to anyone seeking a delinquent teen comedy. I must also add that the female actresses are absolutely gorgeous and do nothing but add to the movie for the typical male viewer. Though this may be shallow to add, the looks of the cast are undoubtedly influential to the impact of a movie.I have heard this movie compared to American Pie. This is unjust, as it it significantly better than American Pie. I will rate this a 10/10 for the genre of which it applies: Teen Comedies. In general, as opposed to all other movies (in terms of the level of enjoyment) I give Eurotrip a substantial 8.75/10. Go see it (I got a sneak preview!!!).
Euro Tripe
posted on 21 Jun 2009Undemanding teenagers will love 'EuroTrip' since it ticks all of the boxes necessary for a teen-comedy. Tits, bums, booze, drugs, sex, babes they're all there; it's a shame though, that the formula just doesn't quite work on this occasion. There are the occasional inspired moments but on the whole this is a lacklustre affair, hampered too much by its stereotypical view of Europeans, its poorly written script and the ill-defined characters.Obviously inspired by the much sharper 'American Pie' and the much funnier 'Road Trip', 'EuroTrip' fails to match either film in the laugh stakes and will be remembered most fondly by fans of Michelle Trachtenberg, who looks great and will hopefully go on to star in much better vehicles for her talent in the future.****EDIT****I've just re-watched it. It's actually funnier the second time around (and it helps if you have a bit to drink first). Plus both Michelle Trachtenberg and Jessica Boehrs are great to look at!!! Rating upgraded from 4/10 to 6/10.
Great movie, though many stupidities
posted on 01 Jun 2009First of all, I really love this movie, I've seen it at least 8 times. But there are some things I really have to complain about. It's not the absolutely exaggerated portraits of the different countries, but more some absolutely stupid mistakes. There have been at least two German actors on set (Mieke's father is quite famous in Germany), why didn't they tell the directors/writers/whoever is responsible, that the word "zussamen" doesn't exist? At least in German it doesn't. As a second thing, it was really a pity that it was so damn bad translated and dubbed. Watching it in German makes it only half as funny. Additionally, only about 60 people watched in cinemas in Germany because it ran only one week in one single cinema in whole Germany. Most people I know who have seen it love it and with the right support it could have been a huge success.
an amazing film
posted on 28 May 2009Oh my goodness! When I heard about this film I really didn't want to see it, but one night I was bored and decided to watch a bit of it, as it was nearly finished (it was on Sky) and WOW! The only put-off was the amount of nudity! The movie is basically about a guy called Scotty (Scott Mechlowicz) who gets dumped by his girlfriend Fiona (Kristen Kreuk) who had been cheating on him with the fully-pierced lead singer of rock band Lustra (Matt Damon). Lustra sings a song at Scotty's graduation called Scotty Doesn't Know, which becomes the theme tune of the movie. Scotty gets scared when Mieke, his pen-pal of many years comes on to him. Thinking Mieke is a boy, he emails him back, telling the 'sick German freak' to keep 'his' hands of Scotty's genitals. It's only when Scotty's brother Bert points out that Mieke is not a guy, and is in fact who Scotty thought to be Mieke's hot cousin, that Scotty decides to find Mieke. By this time, Mieke has become offended and blocked Scotty's email account. So Scotty embarks on a trip to Europe with his best friend Cooper (Jacob Pitts), but mistakes occur and the pair find their friends, twins Jenny (MIchelle Trachtenberg) and Jamie (Travis Webster) who help them find Mieke. LOts of unexpected twists make this a fantastic comedy. I love this film!!! You have to see it, it's a romance, comedy and almost rude!! It's definitely a 10/10
National Lampoon Already Did It
posted on 16 May 2009Eurotrip is the latest installment in what has been a very bleak and dismal 2004 movie season- the drought continues. Basically the producers of this film took the outrageous journeys of the National Lampoon series and combined it with the sex comedies of the American Pie series and got this bit of Euro-trash. Being so filled to the brim with over the top crudeness, the filmmakers forgot to add substance to the mix; leaving a very bland, malodorous picture. Most of the actors in this are fairly new to the scene, so I suppose some forgiveness is in order. Scott Mechlowicz stars as Scott Thomas, the guy who gets dumped and then make this trip to meet a girl as a rebound. His buddy and dopey sidekick is Cooper Harris, played by Jacob Pitts, whose only other film of note to date is 'K-19: The Widowmaker'. The only relatively know person in the leads is Michelle Trachtenberg, who is most widely know for her role as Dawn in the 'Buffy: The Vampire Slayer' TV series; she plays Jenny- de-facto friend to Scott and Cooper. Travis Wester plays the nerdy Jamie (referred to as, 'Guidebook' for his permanent attachment to said European guidebook) who is also the twin brother to Jenny. After Scott gets dumped on graduation day, he and his friend Cooper decide to join the twins Jenny and Jamie for a European trip that will eventually take him to Berlin, Germany to meet his pretty pen-pal who he has just suddenly decided he's in love with and can't live without. The foursome travels the continent, causing a wake of chaos in their path and sees more naked bodies than most do in 5 lifetimes. The only mildly amusing part is when Scott and Cooper hit England; they wander into a private pub, reserved only for the notorious soccer hooligans of Manchester United- led by the irrepressible Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Mean Machine, Snatch). Mad Maynard (Jones) and his violent, red-clad mates provide a fun, but brief, onslaught of British soccer lunacy. Much of the film has no point and seems just to be filler to get to an only slightly amusing sex gag. American Pie had some wit; this lacks any kind of intelligence and imagination. Even for a film so over the top as this one, many parts are way too stupid and ludicrous to be swallowed. Example: trading in $1.83 to receive a mountain of wealth due to a lopsided eastern European exchange rate. If you've seen the trailer, you've pretty much seen the movie. I'll give it a 4/10, but be it known that 2 of those points personally belong to Vinnie Jones.
A flick only a teenager could love
posted on 26 Apr 2009"Eurotrip" tells of the misadventures of a High School grad who learns his German e-mail pen pal is a babe and not a dude and travels to Europe with 3 friends (2 guys + 1 girl) to hook up with her. The result is a no brainer comedy romp chock full of all the stuff an 18 year old would like to see/do in Europe....drinking with a soccer team in England; nude beaches in France; absinthe and beer in Germany; brothels and hash brownies in Amsterdam; some crass antics in the Vatican; and lots of sex and T&A everywhere. A flick only a teenager could love, "Eurotrip" is unabashedly silly and unsophisticated fun without the raunch of the "American Pie's". Slammed by the critics (expected) with above average marks from the public, this mindless comedy is a moderately pleasant time killer for those into unadulterated silliness. (B-)
wonderful !!!
posted on 08 Apr 2009Just what i needed in these cold days something what will wake me up : a goooood Comedy.. So film in one word is perfect, like everybody said script was most least concern of director.. But film is fun, interesting, especially funny to know who much Americans know about Europe and i quote " hey we are going to Paris , hey Paris is not Berlin, then he says "you foul everybody knows that Paris is suburb of Berlin" everything is so close here in Europe... And also funny part when they come to Checz republic, how much fun they had for few dollars he.. So film was the best comedy i have seen since a long time .. And i recommend it to everybody and i mean everybody no matter what age are they ..My vote for ratings is 10 out of 10.. Mario,Rotterdam (Netherlands)
doesn't reach the success and humour of RoadTrip but still fine
posted on 31 Mar 2009First of all I wanna say that I'm not an expert in these kind of movies... among recent (or not so recent already) teenage comedies I've seen only American Pie, Road Trip and Dude, Where's My Car? Road Trip and Dude were certainly a hilarious and even thin in some moments. It is said that EuroTrip is from creators of Road Trip and it can be seen in many moments. The whole movie is a fine sample of modern teen comedy in my opinion. Of course it's very stupid and filmmakers mixed everything (for example, set locations in Amsterdam were shot in France), and episode in Bratislava is certainly funny but annoys and offends many people who know that Eastern Europe is not like this of course and it is understandable. Actually many people would find it offensive, so my advise to them - just forget about it all - it's just a dumb movie that must bring you some laughs. But if you don't like teenage comedies in general, then don't watch it, cause it has nothing new - all the same clichés. 4 out of 10
A small classic for us Europeans
posted on 09 Mar 2009Comedies like this is hard to rate. It's a bad movie, technically, acting-wise and in many other aspects. But it's funny, no denying that. After all, isn't that what comedies are about? You would think a comedy like this would appeal only to Americans, but you are wrong. I know Germans, Aussies, Swedes and Hollanders who like this movie. I'm sure there are Brits, Italians, Eastern Europeans and Balkans who like it as well. You have to be able to laugh at yourself. What the movie is about is a bunch of typical teens going for a little quest through Europe in search of the dream girl. Nothing new here. The misadventures on the way, the xenophobic jokes and stereotypes and odd characters are what you laugh at. Vinnie Jones as a crazy ManU supporter, Rade Serbedzija as a Bratislavian truck driver, and many other not that well- known actors doing silly and memorable roles. Some scenes work, some don't. Some are really funny, like the robot battle outside the Louvren, and the Italian pervert smoking a post-sex cigarette. Matt Damon turns up somewhat unexpectedly in the USA and sings the catchy "Scotty doesn't know" song. All in all, this is a great comedy to watch with your friends, and even better in international company.
