Every teenager's nightmare...turning into her mother.
They've always been in each other's faces. Today they're in each other's bodies.

PLOT SUMMARY

The wide generation gap between Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) is more than evident. They simply cannot understand each other's preferences. On a Thursday night they have a big argument in a Chinese restaurant. Both receive a fortune cookie each from the restaurant owner's mother which causes them to switch bodies next day. As they adjust with their new personalities, they begin to understand each other more and eventually it's the mutual self-respect that sorts the things out.

Disney=Greedy Grubbing Grabbers

posted on 31 Aug 2009

This review is NOT for the movie, but for the preposterous, boneheaded idea of EZ-D. It is up to us, the consumer, to make sure this illogical scam fails miserably! Why would you pay nearly seven dollars for a DVD that you can only watch within 48 hours after opening, when you can buy a new release-that will play forever with proper care- for about double the bones (sometimes less, if you look).
This is Disney's ill-conceived attempt to muscle out the rental market. Again I present the argument of price. It only cost me a couple of bucks to rent a new release. And some video stores have recent and old releases (but not new) for a buck for 7 days. If more rental stores across the nation would offer this, the EZ-D format would die the quick death it deserves. Do NOT buy anything in this format!! I've always suspected the evil undertone of Disney, and my suspicions have been confirmed. Hit `em in the pocketbook, people!! You can fool some of the people some of the time, oh MegaEvilCorporation, but you haven't fooled me!

Not that I didn't like it, because I did. I had not seen the original 'Freaky Friday', and this one had received lots of build-up, so naturally my expectations were a bit too high. Overall entertaining, an old Asian lady sees mom and daughter arguing, puts a 'spell' on them so they switch bodies, have to live as each other for a time. Daughter in mom's body has to pretend to be a psychologist. Mom in daughter's body has to go to school, and play in the rock band. Interesting and funny things happen, somehow all drastic outcomes are avoided and all ends well. It is a cute, mindless type of movie that can be watched at any time I am bored and need a few well-done chuckles. Much like Sweet Home Alabama and Legally Blonde, two other fluff movies I own and enjoy. Not everything has to be a potential award-winner, after all.

absolute hoot. Jamie Lee is superb

I watched this on the telly for the umpteenth time and still split a gut.the body-switch story line has been all played out now and even this is a remake but with additional nifty scenes based on modern technology like cell phones and computers.the film length is just long enough to do all the skits but doesn't dwell on the happy ending stuff, even though that is nice.I don't know where ms lohan is going in her personal life but I hope she continues to be involved in this exquisite level of comedy.Jamie Lee is really hot in a black evening gown.

I have to say I liked the book better. The movie is kind of shallow. I like Lindsay Lohan a lot, but for some reason this movie didn't serve a purpose for me.
They twisted the story of the book, which was much better might I add, to make 'Anna' a rebel punk rocker with a bad attitude and a belly button ring. I think I may have appreciated this movie more if it had some more meaning.
Some parts of the movie were really good and some parts were kind of stinky. No offense, but after Chad Michael Murray's character entered the movie, that's when the movie got boring. That's the word. Boring. Not bad, just kind of boring.
Don't get me wrong though, it's a lot better than that Lizzie Maguire movie and What A Girl Wants, and I guess maybe littler kids might like it more than I did. But here's the breakdown.....
THE MOVIE: Definitely worth watching, Definitely worth checking out of the library, Worth renting, Maybe not worth buying until you've seen it.
AGES?: 4-6, probably wouldn't get it. 7-9 May like it. 10-13 - my age group....It was okay...kind of predictable. 13+ - most likely will find it boring.
MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS: Mean Girls (PG-13) for younger kids, The Parent Trap and Cheaper By The Dozen.
OTHER: I recommend Freaky Friday, the book, wholeheartedly.

Curtis and Lohan make this film a delight

posted on 13 Aug 2009

The premise of "Freaky Friday" has been done before - a magic spell causes two characters to switch bodies and thus perspectives - but this film is a ton of fun anyway. Psychiatrist Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) are constantly at war. Tess is days away from remarrying, and Anna feels the acute pain of having lost her father. Anna has found refuge in her music, but her mother fails to see the importance of it, pulling the plug (literally) on Anna's big break. When a well-meaning Chinese woman ensures that they will be forced to understand each other's lives, the comedy begins full-force. The two wake up trapped in the body (and the daily life) of the other. The script is smart and punchy, with twists that are not as formulaic as the premise might suggest. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are hilarious in their interpretations of the generation gap. While I expected such a performance from Curtis, Lohan was a wonderful surprise. Without the chemistry and talent between these two actresses, the film could have been lackluster. The other actors, most notably bland Mark Harmon, cannot sustain the energy Curtis and Lohan create. With animated aplomb, they even manage to overcome a few missteps in the screenplay.

This film provides some hearty laughs and, in the tradition of such films, sentimental tears at the end. It's a great film for both adolescents and parents, with jabs at both - and neither will be embarrassed by watching it with the other.

Having not seen this movie in theatres I admit to being hesitant about buying it but I'm glad I did because it's an excellent family movie.

It's a classic story of a mother and a daughter who don't get along because they don't see eye to eye on almost anything. However, unlike any other mother and daughter, these two wake up one morning after going out to eat Chinese in each others bodies! The result leaves them understanding each other and getting along much easier.

This "girly movie" is quite well done. So well done in fact that my entire family was watching it with me the very next day!

An Awesome Film!!!

To me, Disney's 2003 version of Freaky Friday is a lot better than the original. I don't hate the original, I just think this one is a lot funnier and more up-to-date! Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan were hilarious trying to be the opposite of each other. After having a big fight with each other on Thursday, Anna (Lohan) and Tess (Curtis) switch bodies on Friday morning, and throughout the entire day, you see hilarious moments as Tess acts like a rebellious teenager and Anna acts more mature. Tess is supposed to be married on Saturday, and if they don't switch back, they'll have to post-pone it. It's also awesome to see Jamie Lee jammin' down at the concert later toward the end of the movie! If you love comedy, you'll love FREAKY Friday!!!

Surprisingly funny comedy!

FREAKY Friday scores points utterly often, and it's so pleasing to watch a sort of everyday movie where the laughs comes often, the acting works very well and... well; simple enough, it's a good movie! Jamie Lee Curtis stars in the movie and even she in a character made for her Hollywood generation; being a sort of going-down-former-big-actress performs nice. The grudgy, rocked-up girl Anna is sick and tired of her brother and mother bugging her with her private life, having problems at school and having a total crush on the also rock & roll loving, older boy Jake. Her mother Tess is going to marry and really wants to understand her daughter's problems; but really doesn't get into her life without seeming un-interested... being at a Chinatown restaurant they get a fortune cookie and suddenly their lives are turned upside-down. Waking up the next day, Anna's mind is in Tess' body, and opposite... and this will off course cause trouble.Tolerance playing a big part in this family kind comedy and with a lots of simply great scenes this movie really, really surprised me in every way of it's charming entertainment. The fine acting of both Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan makes the mum-and-daughter chemistry work very fine, and with moral between the fine comedy and pure family entertainment with rock n' roll consert and hunk Jake singing "Baby hit me one more time" with a truly terrible voice, this movie is actually very nice!

why???once again hollywood seems to have run out of ideas and ransacked the vaults for an idea to remake. films and tv shows we enjoyed in the 60s and 70s are now remade because hollywood execs believe we will say "i enjoyed that as a kid, i should take my child to see the remake". well, i did.worst $14 i've spent this year.avoid this film like the plague - get the original on video.

annoyingly cliché totally unrealistic, nevertheless entertaining

posted on 27 Jul 2009

Seeing this movie years later, it is annoyingly cliché with the free spirited teenager and the uptight mother. I know the movie is not supposed to be realistic, but they weren't even realistic enough to relate to. They totally exaggerated each other's personalities when they were switched. Lohan's character in the begning could not be pictured moshing into a crowd, signing a strange man's body part or letting it out at the audience of that show she was on for her mother's book. I also don't think her mother seemed like the type to savatage her friendship with that guy; most mothers would want to get to know the man their daughter rather than giving him the cold shoulder, if they had the opportunity. The part where her teacher gave her a bad grade because her mother didn't go out with him in high school was really unrealistic; it was decades ago and he would have cared less in real life. The part where Anna's friend had a crush on the mother was cute, but that was in the original and in this version it was exaggerated; I don't know any younger crushes who would stalk the older woman he crushes on. At least in the original, he was not at all attractive, so it was believable, not that the other guy was gorgeous, but for a 16 year old probably. The original was better; the mother was more likable; she didn't try to savagage Anna's friendships or put her daughter down. There was a part in the new version where her mother felt her backside and was like "That is not mine!" as though she thought her Anna was chubby, but she wasn't and Curtis was not thinner than Anna. Also, Anna really was kind of a rebellious child in the original, which made you kind of feel sorry for the mother and Anna at the same time. Although perhaps that was because in the new one, they wanted to show that Mom's make mistakes. The old one probably went by the whole "mother knows best," cliché, although she did learn how hard her daughter had it with peer pressure and all. In the original, she was only a young teen about 13 or 14, so her immaturity was believable and cute. In this one, she was like 16 and acting so immature, more so after they switched places; this was kind of insulting for that generation or for teens in general. Additionally, I don't think many teens would want their mother dressing sexy; they would probably be embarrassed, showing her mom in gap jeans would be more realistic. Linsey Lohan was a lot more attractive than Foster was at that time, but that was probably because Foster was at that awkward age and Linsey was about 16 or 17. It was entertaining because it was funny, but that is about it.

Freaky Friday rocks-beats orginial

posted on 22 Jul 2009

I'm a guy (20 yearse old), and my parents and I went to see it. We orginially wre going to see something different, but there was a time mix-up, so we chose Freaky Friday at the spur of the moment.

First let me say, I felt a little fuzzy during the opening credits and in the beginning. I felt like, " great, this is going to be a waste." I was surprised. I enjoyed this movie. This movie was funny, and very good acting as the mother and daughter switch roles. NOw I'm sure that females will enjoy this movie better since this movie is targeted towards them, but Guys, do not feel bad if you see this movie and liked it. I loved it, it was funny, and I think it beats the original.

CUTESY, BUT FUN!

posted on 10 Jul 2009

The movie is a pleasant surprise! It's a remake of a 1976 movie of the same name with Jodie Foster (also by Disney), but is one of the few remakes that easily outdo the original. It is no milestone in filmaking, but in a season chock-full of action movie sequels, and minimal creative products from a panicked studio system that is going through another period of zero originality, this is a blast of a release!

Yes, the theme is a slightly 70s doozie: body switching. But don't let that fool you into skipping this (as it did me) because the direction is sharp, not heavy handed. No special effects, great writing, crisp dialogue, just a plain fun movie, like the studios cranked out for decades, before they became what they are today. Curtis as usual is simply charming, she IS every bit the mother/daughter, and Linsday Lohan has a great presence.

It's straight family entertainment and generally likely to tickle everyone's fancies. This one I will recommending even owning as a DVD, its lighthearted banter makes for easy repeat viewing for pretty much the entire family.

problems?

I really like this movie! It is one of the best movies I ever seen. I think the plot is really creative which brings out meaningful insights. In addition to that, it also points a problem between parents and teenagers which is lack of understanding. Through the switch, Tess Coleman and Anna better understand each other such as their problems, difficulties, pressure so on and so forth. Anna realized her mother's life isn't that perfect after all while Tess Coleman understands her daughter's problems at school such as the conflict with the history teacher and the constant detention. They both change a lot through the movie. At the end, they know how to get along with each other. I really like the ending! I think this movie is really engaging, Lindsay Lohan has done a great job acting out Anna! Overall, the movie is really hilarious!

A tomboy teenage girl, Annabel (Lohan), and her widowed mother, Ellen (Curtis), who are always arguing with each other, simultaneously wish they could be someone else, they somehow exchange bodies, as they both learn (or in the mother's case, remembers) what it's like to be in the other person's situation. As nice as that might be, the duo faces a deadline, as the mother is due to get married soon, and doesn't want to miss the big event (obviously) or for her daughter to get to know her new stepfather (Harmon) a *lot* better than she had expected... There's also the problem of Annabel finding herself stuck with her mom's job as a medical doctor (but without any of the training to back it up)! Child actress Lindsay Lohan was already an experienced performer when she made her feature debut in the 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Born in New York City, Lohan began modeling at age three. After appearing in numerous TV commercials, Lohan moved to series TV with a role on the daytime serial Another World from 1996 to 1997. Cast as The Parent Trap's scheming twin sisters after a six month search for just the right girl, Lohan succeeded in filling Hayley Mills' shoes, winning over audiences with her pert charm as both the Californian Hallie and the British-raised Annie. She subsequently starred in the Disney TV film Life-Size (2000). ~ Lucia Bozzola that is why i thought the movie was great because she had so much expirience! Thank You for reading ZARINA

Excellent bodyswap comedy

I won't spend time rehashing comments in detail.I have one reservation here, namely that the story threads concerning the teacher and the bitchy girl were left open, in that although the problem was solved, the consequences of the "remedial" action which Mom took were never seen.Apart from that, I loved this film. Above everything, it was funny, largely thanks to Jamie Lee Curtis, always credible whether as harassed Mom or teen in unwelcome circumstances. However, the script was pretty good too. And Lindset Lohan showed how good she was before she went off the rails. I do hope this young woman rescues herself, and gives us the career she promised in these early films, and herself the future she deserves. The rest of the cast is pretty good, too.Thankfully, the sentimentality remains well reined in.Give yourself a treat and a laugh, and watch this.

I love the movie. It is one of my first movie that shows a lesson of mother and daughter relationship. I love it because it's funny, charming, and cool! This movie brings me closer to my mother, and a closer relationship. My sister felt the same, too. If you haven't watched this movie yet, I would strongly recommend you to watch it. I really think you're going to like it!

Walking A Mile In Each Other's Shoes

posted on 28 Jun 2009

This is the third adaption of the "Freaky Friday" book by author Mary Rogers. The first with Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris in 1977, and the second was a TV movie in the mid 90's with Shelley Long. This new adaption, I have to say, blows the other two out of the water. I went into this film knowing that it will probably be a nice little movie(which it is)and will probably think nothing more of it while and after I watched it. I am happy to say that I am wrong in that case. This Disney released film is a joy and a delight from the first frame to the very last. I credit the screenwriters and director Mark Waters for delivering a breezy, witty, lighthearted, lift me up romp that is sure to please and satisfy everyone looking for a nice family for everyone to watch. The film is about The Coleman family. Mom is Tess Coleman(Jamie Lee Curtis), a widowed psychiatrist trying to maintain a job, a home, and raising her two kids. Son Harry, and her 15 year old daughter Anna(Lindsay Lohan). What we soon come to learn is what we have already expected. Mom and daughter not getting along for all the usual reasons. It's the constant battle between young and adult, kids and parents. Anna is a rebel type who is in a rock band that plays in the garage, gets into trouble at school, and feels like everyone is against her. Mom Tess is just trying to keep things together after their father passed away 3 three years before. Tess is engaged to nice guy Ryan(Mark Harmon), and the wedding is in 2 days or so. After a dinner at a chinese restaraunt where Tess and Anna get into a fight, a chinese woman gives them a magical fortune cookie that makes the two change bodies. They wake up the next morning in each other's body's, and the fun really begins. Each try to be the other - Anna, in Tess' body, tries to do her mom's job and to keep up appearances with Ryan. Tess, in Anna's body, tries to go to school in Anna's place. Each learns a lesson while being each other and it's a lesson we have come to all know. It's not easy being a teenaged girl when you are going through changes, falling for boys for the first time, and thinking that nobody, especially your parents, don't understand you. And it's not easy being a single parent with a teenaged girl having to deal with her issues as well as your own and caring for the well being of your family and keeping the house standing. It's something we have seen countless times in movies and TV shows, but it really works here. The main reason for that are because of the wonderful performances by Jamie Lee and Lindsay. I have always been a fan of Jamie Lee's, but even more so now. She delivers a great performance that gets to showcase how good she is at comedy and at physical comedy. She has the moody, snotty teenager thing down pat. You can tell she is having a blast doing it, and it comes thru in the performance and enhances it even more. The performance from young Lohan is equally engaging. She was much better when she was acting as her mom than she was when she was herself. Playing her mom, she had a real knack for giving out a parental demeanor and it was strong and even endearing in some of her actions and mannerisms. The success and every winning aspect of this film is because of these two actresses. Mark Harmon has a pretty typical role, but it's nice to see him in a movie again. Chad Michael Murray, who is quickly becoming the new heartthrob for young girls around the world thanks to this movie and his series "One Tree Hill", is Jake. The token "potential boyfriend" that gets into the mix. Like Harmon, it's a pretty by the numbers type of character, but he does what he does. While it is so easy to dismiss a film like this for being light and fluffy, this one has better odds of making a longer impact than others because of it's sweetness and because of the appealing performances from Curtis and Lohan. I enjoyed this film a lot and it is just about as perfect as a nice family film can possibly be. Nothing more, nothing less.

I expected this film to be: OK.
Glad I was wrong. This film was so funny and the plot actually made sense. JAMIE as the daughter was hilarious even though I didn't believe her as much as I believed LINDSAY as the MOTHER> Great acting all the way through. I would love to watch this film everyday.

My mom and I just *Ioved it*!

This is the best sort of "chick flick" to take your mom to and no, age doesn't matter since it addresses the classic "mother and daughter" arguement, regardless of age.

We laughed from the opening sequence until it ended, and yes, Jamie Lee is still one amazing actress.

It's poignant, funny, well-written and sentimental at the same time, but it really is Jamie Lee's movie.

I first saw the trailer a few months back before "Finding Nemo", and afterwards I found out that Catherine Zeta-Jones didn't accept the role, and I'm so glad that she didn't.

So, treat your mom to lunch or dinner and go and see this movie together. Enjoy the time with your mom, go and have pie or cheesecake and ice cream (or coffee and apertifs!) after the movie, since it's just *that* kind of a film.

Oh, and bring a ton of tissues; if you're not feeling anything or laughing, you might want to see if you still have a heartbeat.
