A fine film, especially for fans

posted on 28 Aug 2009

For the true, die-hard fans out there, this movie will be a welcome innovation. However, I would like to first cease some rumors floating around. Mind you, there are likely to be some intense spoilers.1) Jason is a short wimpy pushover: No. Jason, rather than being a very straight forward charging maniac, is a bit more like Michael Meyers. He waits, he'll stand right in front of idiotic stoners for a bit, and then take them out big time, and keep coming no matter what. Also, for those who think he's gone down in size since Hodder, understand this: the guy playing Jason was a stand-in for Hodder! Their physical attributes are incredibly similiar.2) Because of yadda-yadda reason, (fill in the blank) should win: No. The winner is decided for a particular reason. I'll explain this later.3) There is not enough Freddy or Jason and too much of the other characters: Not really, but even then, when did ANY Freddy or Jason movie focus more on the bad guy than the running teens? Besides, these guys hide in the shadows a great deal just to scare the teens. Instead, I guess some people just want to see them run out and not try for scares at all, but just always be on screen in an endless, plotless, pointless killing spree that would disappoint all. That said, this movie will be appreciated by any true fans of the series. There are a few problems with continuity (Jason has gone in the lake many a time with no hesitation, one has to be under 18 to have Freddy in their dreams, for example) but otherwise the film is solid and tries to hold it all together. An appearance from Betsy Palmer would have been greatly appreciated, but there is enough nostalgia in visual references and dialogue to make any fan appreciative. If you have seen the other films, I suggest seeing at least the first in each series, and part three in the elm street series, as much is garndered from these two films. And yes, the fight scene rocks. VERY much so.So, that spoiler as to who wins: The good guy. Which of the two psychotic murderers is the good guy? Which one was drowned in a lake and thouroughly didn't deserve their fate, and then witnessed their mother's death? Which one was a dirty child murderer who was always evil, period? Regardless of his good lines, he's not at all good.

This one is for the fans only

Well I have finally seen it, and I can say that this one is for the fans only. I arrived at the cinema on the 15th sharp to see the first showing at 12 noon, and was greeted by a ticket seller, telling her friend how bad the movie was. I felt like saying, do you know anything about the saga's. I resisted and went into the almost empty cinema for the very first showing.I will be fair, and say that I had one minor gripe with the film, and that was only because I felt the dialogue dragged slightly in a few scenes, but meant well. Apart from that, I believe it may not be well received by new comers, who are just going for the fun of it. But for the rest of us, (I hope), It answers the age old question which we all knew. Freddy is stronger than Jason in the dreamworld, but still Jason draws power even in the dreamworld????, and Jason wrecks most things in the real world. I wont spoil it for you but the ending is very cool, and all must remember one thing.Whatever happens in the end, THEY ARE BOTH ALREADY DEAD. so dont get too upsetThe fans will love this film as did I and I just hope there are more movies to come.Well done Ronnie yu

A step back in the horror genre

Nothing new. Nothing different. Just a bunch of
blood and random teen stupidity dished out over
a span of an hour and a half. Thus, this is what
Freddy Vs. Jason is all about. Never mind the cliches
and crummy acting, this film was just a travesty
to the fact that is was ever made. People's dreams
should really be haunted by the fact that this piece
of crap somehow made it to the big screen, then
made money in the process. I guess there is
no hope for the human race when they willingly
shell out money for something this boring and
ridiculous. Well, here's looking forward to yet
another stupid line of horror films.

A Bloody Triumph

Final Score: 8.8 (out of 10)It's not quite a sequel, it's not quite a remake, it's not played for camp and it's not entirely serious. It's a summer movie that actually delivers. It's 'Freddy vs. Jason' and the long awaited bout between the two schlock-horror movie icons is the must-see slasher movie event of the year. And memory can't even recall the last time the words `slasher movie event' could be put together.Critics hate slasher movies. They give them default negative reviews with stock pessimistic quotes, theaters confine them to the small screens in the back and industry analysts always relegate horror fans to a cult crowd that turns out the first week and then drops away. Good slasher flicks are few and far between but they do exist. To deny `FvsJ' is to deny that anything of the genera can ever achieve greatness. And this is coming from someone who is not traditionally a fan of either Freddy or Jason. I always thought Freddy Krueger and the `Nightmare' series was as schlocky and pandering as movies come (all except the terrific `Wes Craven's New Nightmare'). Jason Voorhees fared even worse - the poor man's Michael Myers, there was nothing of value in Friday the 13th or any of it's infinite cloned sequels. I never quite got why either of them as well as Child's Play's Chucky were elevated to mainstream horror `icon' status. Yet, I found this movie an absolute hoot. Not even since `Scream' (the self mocking horror movie that even Roger Ebert found safe to review) has a slasher movie been as much grisly fun it's entire running time as the novelty collaboration of these two worlds colliding in `Freddy vs. Jason'.There could be many reasons why this oddity works so well as just a basic concept. Maybe it's the fact that they are both such cult oddities. Maybe it's their completely different styles with wise-cracking Freddy bouncing off the mute, personality-challenged straight-man Jason. Maybe it's their unique abilities. Maybe it's because their worlds are so far apart. All of this is mined thoroughly by writers Damien Shannon & Mark Swift , whom I have to admire for blending these worlds together so smoothly. While one can't forget that Freddy Krueger was winking through the 4th wall and cracking irony over the camera lens long before Kevin Williamson made it fashionable, this movie wisely avoids going for the intentional camp that, no doubt, would have been so much easier. Although I'd still like to see him do something, anything, else once in a while other than Freddy Krueger, Robert England seems to be having as much fun as ever. I'm not sure there is much to say about Jason, he is more a vessel to be used and steered in this movie then an actual character - which works perfectly for him. Can anyone really tell the difference between Ken Kirzinger and Kane Hodder? As a big fan of Judd Apatow's criminally short-lived `Undeclared' it was great fun seeing Monica Keena pretty much carry this movie as the human lead. Beyond being beautiful, Keena can deliver a line as silly as "Welcome to my world, b**ch" or lay on a table as the camera slyly focuses on her ample breasts and still retain her composure. Elsewhere in the cast, Jason Ritter does a decent job with the leading man role, `Titus' alumni Zach Ward shows up in a very strange cameo and the group of teenagers has a stoner with a spot-on resemblance to Jason Mewes.Oh, yes, `Freddy vs. Jason' has it's clichés. Even when it expands itself out-of-the-box to creative highs it still is without a doubt rooted in the slasher movie - gratuitous nudity, exploitative sex, and an opening sequence surrounding a group of teens trying to get it on `in a house all to themselves' that almost had me heading for the exits. I'm glad I didn't because it's not long after that when director Ronny Yu hits the gas, barrels this thing through the boundaries of the genera and never looks back. In fact, much of the success of the film falls squarely with Yu. He splatters the wall (quite literally) with pound-for-pound more blood and gore then any 10 movies in recent memory combined, all the while juggling the tone perfectly between menacing and playful. He stages the monsters' rampages with a glorious visual style. Musically he gives us both Freddy and Jason's themes although the soundtrack doesn't quite pop as one would like.Still, the movie was so much better then it's genera and even presented a few interesting ideas that it wet my beak for it to go all the way. It proved to have the potential and by the end I wanted it to be more. In the rush to get to the battle between Freddy and Jason, the movie sidesteps an interesting sub-plot involving an adult conspiracy to contain Freddy - like a virus - from their children's dreams. I really wanted to see this idea (it could have been like something out of Lois Lowry's utopian `The Giver') played out and woven into the final product more. Had they done that there would have been no stopping this movie.Ronny Yu's previous film was `Bride of Chucky' a comedic macabre oddity that just has to be seen. In 2 movies Yu has managed to jumpstarted the long dead pulse of 3 franchises that were arguably jokes to begin with. That's quite an achievement. Certainly more challenging then doing a by-the-numbers story of someone's life with schizophrenia or adapting an existing stage play. Yu and `Freddy vs. Jason' reminded me why I still put down money for these type of movies in the first place. Dramas and comedies fit into nice neat little templates and can be good without giving us anything new. Horror movies, however, have an almost post-modern element to them where you can do -and get away with - just about anything in the story construction. Despite there many in-genera clichés, there is really no mold for making a good horror movie. `FvsJ' exploits that with ghoulishly fun avail right up to it's perfectly ambiguous and, dare I say, artful final scene. It takes a real talent to pull off an ending like that and still leave the audience feeling satisfied. Well done.

Good, near-mindless fun

*Disclaimer - just to cover my ass, there may be some minor spoilers below. don't worry though, i'm not going to mention enough to ruin any scenes and i'm certainly not going to mention any details about the ending.I'm surprised no one else has taken the time to write any comments on this yet, as the sneak preview was last thursday. I saw a review for a movie a couple months back that said something along the lines of "If you think you'll like it, you will, if you don't, you won't". I'd say that's an apt recommendation on Freddy v. Jason. Out of all the movies in both series, I would rate F v. J second only to the original NOES. Just so you know where I'm coming from, I've seen all the movies in the two series and usually enjoy them but am not a "serious" fan of either. In viewing the movie, it becomes obvious that the filmakers put a lot of effort into paying homage to both series. The first notes of the score begin with the classic NOES theme then dissolves into the noise we always here when Jason's stalking some helpless teens in a Friday movie. The first two things I associate with NOES movies are 1) Freddy's smart-ass, one-liner persona and 2) some genuinely creepy moments when Freddy's only operating behind the scenes (i.e. "one, two, Freddy's comin' for you", etc.). F v. J delivers these and it does it well. I would say better than any NOES since the original. In watching a Friday movie, I expect less genuine scares and more startling jumps and cringes. Jason's never seemed to exude creepy. He's more just "oh sh*t, there's some unstoppable, p***ed off guy... I wonder what kind of hilarious ways he's going to off these teens." We definitely get our share of this type of action in F v. J. It's been a couple years since I've seen some of the Friday movies, so I can't say for sure, but I'm inclined to say F v. J gives Jason more kills than any of the previous movies. Freddy unleashes him on a teen-rich environment and Jason certainly does take advantage of it.Ok, as it's the title of the film, I should probably comment on the whole Freddy/Jason showdown aspect. For the most part, I think it works. I don't think it's too much of a spoiler to say that at different points in the last act of the film, both villians get at least some time with a homefield advantage. To be true the characters, it simply had to be this way. Freddy is obviously going to have an advantage in the dreamworld and Jason's going to have the upperhand in the real world. The final showdown plays with this fairly successfully.Other aspects of the film... Frankly, I've gotten to the point where I almost expect bad acting from these franchises. I was pleasantly surprised by nearly the entire cast. Not saying anyone's performance is Oscar worthy, but most of the acting is good, especially from the younger actors. The pacing of the movie is fairly solid. The internal logic is mostly alright, that is to say, for the most part the movie plays within the rules set up in the previous installments.Ok, I almost feel like this is less a review than it is a preview, but hope it was helpful. If you're a fan of this type of movie, you ought to like Freddy vs. Jason.

Great movie. Now lets have Jason vs Michael.

I really loved this movie and the dual between the two. But lets face it, I think an even better dual would be between Jason and Michael Myers. That would just be the ultimate confrontation. It would really decide who would be king of the horror, since the two are very very similar. This movie has now set a precedence, and hopefully there will more duals and battles to come between other horror figures. Bring it on!

Great

OK, i saw it twice opening day and i would like to thank every one who went to push this movie to the number 1 spot on the charts lets try and keep it there. Did anyone notice that the naked chick in the beginning was yelling for her boyfriend "Micheal" and the main actress was named "Lori" a little halloween tribute? Perhaps. And my one negitive remark through the whole movie. When Jason entered the rave in the corn, the first person he slashed was a guy with a stupid hat and a gay looking shirt. Then the camara leaves him for a little bit after he "hits the keg" then slashes another guy (the same guy),in the same place wearing the same hat and same shirt, either there was too guys wearing the same thing (unlikely) or they messed up. I meen come on the guy even fell the same way. So i think that they used the same clip. My final thought... FREDDY VS. JASON RULES. One,Two Freddy's coming for you. Chchch kakakaka

Most disappointing movie ever!

posted on 08 Aug 2009

Easily the most highly-anticipated movie of my life, FREDDY VS. JASON is also the most disappointing movie I've ever seen. In development hell for almost a decade, Freddy vs. Jason thankfully finally got made after over a dozen screenwriters took a stab (no pun intended) at writing the screenplay. Final writing credits go to first time screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift who were able to craft a unique plot line for bringing Freddy and Jason together. Unfortunately, the plot line is full of many holes and the screenplay lacks cleverness and much originality. David S. Goyer did an uncredited rewrite of the script. Too bad he didn't write the whole thing otherwise it would have turned out 100% better. If the the screenplay was the only problem with FREDDY VS. JASON then maybe there was a chance that the film could have been better, but the screenplay is the least of the the film's problems. The acting is quite awful even by genre standards and the blood is some of the most fake-looking in cinematic history. The biggest problem is the fact that when Freddy and Jason finally get to the big fight, the result isn't even the least bit satisfying. The climatic battle looks dumb and poorly edited. I expected much better from director Ronny Yu who directed similar material with the excellent BRIDE OF CHUCKY. To his credit, Wu does deliver some truly creepy scenes towards the beginning of the flick. However, those scenes can't make up for enormous amount of flaws with the picture. Rent the original Friday THE 13TH or the original 'ELM STREET' instead. 5/10

Good movie

Jason is the best person and also the scariest. If you are get mad at him he will fight you and your dead. And also he will be the strongest in a fight. If you are lucky you better be carefull or you will be next!

Great!!

Watch it, if you like to see people bleeding, killing, screaming, (JUST LIKE ME) Watch it the end it's not the best end but wins who I wanted to win it's great, the party it's the best part of the movie, you will laugh while Jason (My Favorite) throws a black woman to a tree, and Freddy cuts everyone the only thing i don't like it's the fact that Freddy was V/S Jason (The name says all) i would be better if Jason and Freddy kill all the people like "Friends" if you want to see how is Jason and how was he when he was 11 (WHEN AND HOW HE DIE TOO) you will see it in this movie, it's the best of Jason (Or Freddy) Movies, it's a weird movie, and it's hard to understand the beginning but when you catch the movie it Rocks, good soundtrack too but it could be better.

Alright

The movie itself is alright. It's exactly what it says! Freddy vs. Jason. And while we might never see my favorite movie be made (Ash vs. Freddy vs. Jason), there might be another movie around the corner, maybe involving M. Myers. But back to this film. It delivers what it promises, the battle of the titans. Wrapped up in a nice story. And while all is good, I can't stop wondering, if there wasn't any way to make more of that particular premise ... The movie is fine, but it's just not excellent. And one thing is for sure: Kelly Rowland plays one of the most annoying characters that I have seen in a long time. Now either she is a good actress and played that really well ... or she is a bad actress and that showed on screen (I personally think it's the latter).A nice teen horror movie, with two of the most recognised horror characters out there!

Fantastic entertainment

An absolute surprise this one.Freddie V Jason is the bringing together of 2 of the greatest horror movie bad guys Hollywood has to offer and facing them off against each other.Essentially there's a little touch of background from the respective movies, but even if you'd seen none of them you'll not feel lost here, such is the effective self-contained nature of this one.Freddie V Jason sees Freddie Kreuger resurrecting Jason Voorhees because he wants to come back himself but needs to make people remember who he is so he can kill them in their dreams again. The only way to do this is to spread fear so he brings Jason back and the 2 partially team up before havoc descends. This movie never takes itself seriously for a second, and as such is a huge blast. Sure, it's a predictable teen slasher horror, but it never tries to be anything else. The acting is gloriously camp and the gore levels are delicious. There are also one or 2 extremely comical moments, such as the 'weed worm'. Plus seeing Freddie fight Jason is worth the admission price alone and it's a titanic battle to say the least.Overall it's terrific brainless fun which does exactly what it says on the tin, but is far more polished and more entertaining than the likes of the dreadful Cabin Fever.Top marks.

I Loved This Movie!!!!!!!

I went into the movie theater with very low expectations after seeing Freddies Dead the Final nightmare but this movie surpassed all of my expectations. From the beginning I knew I was wrong about this movie. I can't believe the reviews that this movie is getting I mean what were they expecting the horror movie version of Rocky. The acting could have been better apart from Robert Englund of course and Ken Kirzinger is great as Jason though I still think it was unfair to Kane Hodder (poetic eyes? give me a break). Anyway all this aside its still a brilliant horror movie. The end fight was excellent and very well directed by Ronny Yu. But be warned this movie has a very high blood content and is definitely not suitable for young children. For fans of either franchises this is a must see.

Hmm..not bad.

Well, it won't win any awards whatsoever, but Freddy Vs. Jason was decent. The fight scenes are the parts of the movie that deliver the goods, and it has some a couple nice lines or two. The death scenes certainly aren't the most disgusting around, even if they're dosed in R-rated blood.Overall, I give this 6.9.

Simply brilliant

When I walked into the theater for Freddy vs. Jason alongside my mom (yes, I'm under 17, and since I had gotten my mom to bring me to Jason X, I did it again), I was wondering what would happen. I mean, about 15 months earlier, I sat in the theater, waiting for Jason X to start, and I had known EVERYTHING about that movie. If there was a news bit that I could find in the 2 years I waited for the movie. This time, however, I didn't know much. I had read a few things, but other than that, everything was gonna be surprising.I am glad I didn't know much about the movie, because it was awesome. I don't want to spoil much, but I had heard about a Rave scene & the Freddy bug scene, and they were highlights of the movie. The battle sequences are insane, and the ending is pure genius.Critics have smashed this movie. That's funny, because they just treated it as a typical horror movie. They didn't even pick on it for not having the ending attached until opening day, which they probably would have done if they had actually seen this movie. Everyone that I know who has seen it has said it was awesome and intense. Ronny Yu is a genius director, and I hope everyone hops aboard for another Friday the 13th sequel, a Nightmare on Elm Street sequel, or the inevitable Freddy vs. Jason 2, which should kick as much ass as this one.

Surprisingly good

posted on 05 Jul 2009

If you read my review of the piece of cinematic waste (as well as a waste of two hours of my life) Jason X, you'll know that I wasn't really anticipating another Friday the 13th/Nightmare on Elm Street sequel. However, when the trailers for Freddy Vs. Jason looked good, I took a chance, went to see it, and was surprised at how good it was. I originally had the idea that FVSJ would, like Jason X, use absolutely stupid comedy in a lame attempt to improve the enjoyment level, but it actually kept the comedy to a very bare minimum, and what was there was not too bad. The movie was well written, with probably the best way to bring Krueger and Voorhees together for a movie, with Krueger manipulating Jason into helping him back into the "spotlight", so to speak. The performances, unlike Jason X and most of the sequels to both these movies, were actually pretty good. I give this one a 9 out of 10, the highest ranked Freddy or Jason movie since the first Nightmare on Elm Street. If you absolutely can't stand slasher flicks, then you probably won't like this one. I did, and I'm sure some other people out there will too. Or maybe I'm the only one. Who knows?

And 'very similar to "ghost ship" other films entered in the ranking of films unfortunate. I do not understand why most of the films of horror on this site are all a bad end. ALL VISITORS. Spoiler Alert But this movie is utter tripe. It SUCKS! I am a GIANT Jason fan, but this is absolutely idiotic. We jump into the movie with no real background given to the story. The acting is horrendous, that from Monica Keena in particular. Ken Kerzinger is a pisspoor replacement for Kane Hodder, the man who played Jason for the last four movies and who totally developed the character. Here's my list of pet peeves, of course, major spoilers ensue:I'm breaking this down into four sections, Jason, Freddy, other actors, and miscellaneous. Let's start with the biggest problem, Jason Voorhees.Ken Kerziner:First off, let me say that he DID surprise me. He was better than I expected. That said, he was still a major downgrade from Kane Hodder. To start with, one thing that really annoyed me was the way he stomps around. Kane Hodder is a good twenty pounds heavier, Graham even more so, and you NEVER heard their footsteps ,especially that loud. How can you sneak up on someone with footsteps that go THWUMP, THWUMP?Equally, another thing that bothered me was his first kill. He stabs the guy, and for no f***ing reason, he keeps stabbing him. He doesn't act p***ed when he does this, he just keeps stabbing him up and down. Michael Myers stabs people repeatedly. Jason Voorhees usually stabs someone once and walks away to his next victim. This is a nono. Also, I hate the way he looks when his mother is talking to them. He puts his head on his chest and gets "puppy dog" eyes going. That looks like he's begging for a bone rather than acting sad.And when, praytell, was Jasons head so puny? His mask like swallowed his face up, and that's just not cool. And his mouth had a pathetic makeup job. I mean, it looks even less deformed than the way it was in 3 or 4, and by now Jaso's mouth should be MANGLED. But it's not.Another thing that annoyed me was how slow he moves. Yes, Jason usually walks pretty slow, but this guy was literally Frankenstine. He just pondered. Even whilst fighting Freddy in the final showdown, he just walks as if he were taking a moonlight stroll.Again, when did Jason become the Hulk? Jason usually shows feats of amazing strength, but bending a person in half or snapping a neck is FAR easier than, say, spearig a guy and hurling him for a God damned mile, or taking a multi ton boiler and just pushing it off of him, or punching Freddy in the air for seventy five feet. I like a strong Jason, but NOT one that comes straight from a comic book. It makes it feel too much like a comic.Another problem is the way he just stands there when he has Everclear splashed on him. The Jason I know from parts 2-X would have snapped that guy in two and layed him out to dry before the liquid touched him. This guy not only just stood there when the water hit him, but he actually kinda ribbed the guy in his arm after snapping his neck like he was just joshing with him. Also, when he was on fire in that scene he just acted as if the fire was nonexistant. I dunno about YOU, but I think it'd be best he showed SOME sign he was actually sentient, and not just the Terminator in a hockey mask. This is just the tip of the iceburg on Ken, I'd need a whole nother thread to cover what I disliked about him.AS for Freddy, my primary problem was that Yu didn't seem to know whether Fred was dark and evil or the Joker incarnate. In some scenes, he seems really vile and evil, but in others he's pinballing Jason complete with sound effects, f***ing a dead corpse, and winking and grinning after being beheaded. I'd prefer it if he were one way or the other. Also, like with Jason, Freddy seemed to have become Batman. If he's able to elbow smash Jason, counter his swings, flip, jum over him, throw him, and such, why the hell is it that relatively puny martial artists like Rick or the blonde chick in Freddy's Dead are always able to kick his ass?And how is it that, if he had no powers in the real world like it seemed, he was able to surbvive a decapitation?I also didn't like the little monologue he had in the beginning, where we see bits of his face and an eye and such. It's like something off of Law & Order or something.Other actors:Two words. Monica. Keena. Before, Chris from part 3 would be my nomination for worst actress. Well, not anymore. I love looking at the completely overacted expressions on her face when even the slightest little thing happens, and her annoying wimper that puts her up there with the likes of Mark Patton in terms of sheer... annoyingness.Believe it or not, Kelly Rowland was pretty good, but the guy who played Mark, or whatever the blonde psychos name was, COMPLETELY over acted. This is especially evident in the school when he rushes to Lori.Mainly, even more than Ken, Ronnie Yu simply got on my nerves. His style of cutting seconds out of a scene to make it jumpy was ineffective, pointless, and, to be blunt, annoying. I didn't really think he could do a worse job than he did with Bride of Chucky. Well, I was wrong. I actually got a headache in the scene where Freddy is in Loris house and kills her mom, because he keeps jumping around and skipping seconds of the frame. It was like Manhunters ending, only even more annoying. His choppy editing was even worse than the obvious 3D effects that look like crap in a VHS in FT13th part 3.It bothered me that there was no explanaton given to why Freddy turned into the demon dude, and it was even more annoying how, after it was all hyped up, we got to see about two seconds of it.The way Isabelle moans like a porn star in her sex scene.BAD CGI. Especially in the scene where Jason twists a guys head, the Freddy worm, ESPECIALLY the Freddy worm, and the scene where Kia is killed. Jason X had better CGI with a much lower budget. Hell, a guy setting behind me today even said the Freddy worm looked like s**t.I'd actually rather watch Jason X. This may be a better made film, but Jason X was a HELL of a lot more entertaining. For a movie I've been waiting for 15 years, I was very disappointed. Not horrible, but far from the best in either series. 4/10.But, I'm not the only one.

This movie totally rocked!

How to describe this movie? Well, if you were hoping for something serious, stimulating, or educational, you'll be woefully disappointed. If, however, you came ready for almost two hours of fun and nonstop laughs, this is the movie for you. The premise for this movie has been the basis for much lunchroom speculation among Americans from fifth grade all the way to adulthood. Not only is this movie the culmination of the hopes and dreams of many fans, it is much better executed than it could otherwise have been. The producers and director could simply have decided that this movie would be a major box-office draw regardless of what they did, so might as well not do more that necessary. Thank the gods of film they didn't do that. The casting choices were brilliant. The best friend of the first casualty sounds almost identical to Charlie Sheen. The token nerd, Linderman, bears an uncanny resemblance to John Cusack. The stoner was almost the spitting image of Jason Mewes, of "Jay & Silent Bob" fame. Finally,in a "Deputy Dewey" sort of role, there's deputy Stubbs, played by Lochlyn Munro, from Scary Movie--was that done on purpose? From start to finish, the laughs don't stop. The merriment begins with Jason's stalking of the teenagers in the house on 1428 Elm Street, and doesn't stop for me until the credits roll. Freddy's razor-keen aptitude for quotable quips is far more effective in this movie than in his last few, and the hand-to-hand sequences between him and Jason should be the envy of any chop-socky choreographer. If you need a night away from your life to laugh at violence, gore, and mayhem, this is your movie. Don't come expecting a cinematic epic--if you want that, see "Seabiscuit."

Wow!!! After 10 years of waiting it has finally arrived and it's about damn time. While we were kids , little kids the eternal debate was whether or not Jason or Freddy would win in a fight...now some people debate the existence of God , the meaning of life , why Ron Jeremy gets laid...me and my friends would argue nonstop "Freddy or Jason" ..at the end of Jason Goes To Hell this idea seemed to become a reality something we ended up having to wait 10 years for...and man it was so worth it.Surprisingly this is a good story...and didn't have to turn into a 90 minute Deathmatch between Jason and Freddy...and it also brought back the days of the original Freddy as a menacing evil force rather than a wisecracking nonstop joke one liner....which is rare in this movie. The dissapointing parts is the absence of Kane Hodder...now while Jason isn't really a character who requires the same actor ...it's sad that Kane Hodder has become "THEE" Jason after 4 movies and has acted like he really enjoys killing...and really believes he is Jason which shows in the movies..the new actor doesnt add or decrease anything from the peformance...but its still a shameNow acting is never important in a horror movie...but c'mon the acting in this movie was downright horrible...theres bad performances...and there is downright speaking in monotone...but who cares we just wanted to see them die anyway so it's cool10 years worth the wait....9/10
