Feeling a bit blue and miserable? Garfield is the answer to the problem!
posted on 08 Aug 2009When I started to watch this, I was pretty much in a bad mood. After the ending I was a lot happier. If you're looking for a simple movie with no serious plot and/or a special principle, this is it. The happy ending and funny storyline makes out a perfect way to entertain yourself. Many people say, that this movie "s*cked", and also did the first part. Of course it did, if you compare it to "deep" movies like Se7en, The Godfather etc. They have a deeper meaning, they aren't meant just for entertainment. Garfield therefor is meant for just plain Saturday-night mood raising. Well, some people STILL say, that the movie sucked. They just don't get my point. Ah - the hell with them, this movie rocks!P.S. Bill Murray is perfect as Garfield.
Not as good as the first one
posted on 31 Jul 2009A couple years ago someone attempted to make a film out of a cartoon cat. The film was played by normal actors and some live animals, and one computer animated cat. The film worked out pretty nicely. Now, there's the sequel to that one. In this one the cat everybody loves finds himself following his boss to the UK. In the UK all trouble starts - apparently there's another cat just like him and that cat is royalty. The setup of the film is the same as the previous one: actors, real animals, and this time two computer animated cats. The story is OK, not great, not bad, but OK. And all in all it works out well enough to keep the average kid amused and the parents from falling asleep. Can't say I liked it as much as the previous one, but it was OK.5 out of 10 ludicrously fat cats
Not as good as the First
posted on 30 Jul 2009While Garfield 2 was semi-entertaining, it lacked the neatly-timed humor and sight gags that made the first one so well worth the time and money. It also lacked the cute cuddliness that made Garfield a big star in the first place. I'm not upset that I bought it, but it will not get that much playtime at our house.
It's the old switcheroo!
posted on 28 Jul 2009Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties is what it is, a thoroughly predictable, light-hearted comedy constructed around the old switcheroo, one of the oldest story tricks in the book. It has no aims whatsoever beyond merely entertaining the reader for the relatively short running time of 76 or minutes. So, yes, it's all pretty stupid, but it's also quite entertaining, and I imagine most kids would certainly love it. I mean, who doesn't love talking animals? And even good old Odie gets a chance to shine before all is said and done.
Here's the story in a nutshell. Jon (Breckin Meyer) takes off to England to surprise his girlfriend Liz (Jennifer Love Hewitt), who is speaking at a conference there, and finally ask her to marry him. Garfield and Odie manage to stow away for the ride, as Garfield is determined to put the kibosh on any wedding plans Jon might have. As a result of some bizarre circumstances causing a case of mistaken identity, Garfield soon finds himself living as Prince, the lord and heir of Carlisle Castle. The real Prince, meanwhile, finds his way to Jon's hands, having survived an assassination attempt by Lord Dargis (Billy Connolly), who is in line to inherit the castle after Prince's death. Knowing that their fates are sealed if Lord Dargis takes over the castle, all the animals on the estate work to keep the charade going, just hoping that the real prince, who really is much easier to live with, can somehow make his way back to them. Plenty of animal hijinx ensue.
I only watched this movie because of Jennifer Love Hewitt, who doesn't get all that much screen time, so I was certainly happy to discover that the film itself isn't half-bad. The animation of Garfield is quite good, another saving grace of the film, but I much preferred watching the acting of bonafide animal performers such as the bulldog Winston (Bob Hoskins). Still, the cast as a whole is quite good, with Tim Curry supplying the voice for Prince and Bill Murray once again standing in as the voice behind Garfield.
The film will definitely appeal more to youngsters than adults, but I don't think many adults will begrudge the time they spend watching it. Garfield: A Tale of Two Cities is basically just fluff, but it does succeed in being entertaining fluff.
Slightly better than the original but still boring
posted on 25 Jul 2009This sequel to Garfield is marginally better than the original. It's still not very good though. Bill Murray sounds bored as he voices the sardonic lasagna-eating cat. The plot is just an excuse to go to England and involves a Garfield double voiced by Tim Curry. There are lots of talking animals as in 'Babe' but minus the charm. Billy Connolly tries his best to rise above the material and partially succeeds. Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt simply aren't needed in the storyline. While kids may like the film, adults will probably be bored. Best seen using the FF button on the remote.Overall 3/10
Garfield Improves

Better than the original. I'm not a Garfield fan. I brought home the DVD for my wife. However, I must say that this episode was better than the first. The action and plot were both mildly entertaining. The characters were easy to sympathize with. The light hearted mischievous humor was a great diversion after a tiring day at work. I imagine this was designed as a movie for children. It certainly would be a good children's film. But a with my wife on one side and a big bowl of popcorn on the other I didn't need children to enjoy it. Neither will you.
A very nice two tail of kitties movie
posted on 25 Jun 2009I have seen this movie and it was cute. Bob Hoskins as the voice of Winston was brilliant and Tim Curry as the voice of the Prince was cute. Roscho Lee Browne is a excellent Narattor for Garfield: Two Tail of Kitties movie. This story is when Jon goes to London, England so he goes to the pet care center to take care of Garfield and Odie. Just then Garfield and Odie came out of the cage then went back to the car to hide. Few days later when Jon has landed to the airport then get a taxi to get to the hotel Prince a cat like Garfield but different voices was caught in the basket then Dargis throws him down the river. This is a Very cute movie you will like this for the children too.
This film will give you an allergic reaction
posted on 15 Jun 2009I suppose if I had cared anything for the original live-action "Garfield" (based on Jim Davis' once-popular comic strip, from 2004), I would have liked this one better. Suffice it to say, however, if you have children, there are certainly worse movies you could take them to.I can't think of any of those right now, but I'm sure there are worse ones.Plus, it always grated on me that while the title character was a (very cheap) CGI creation, all of the other animals in the movie were real. What was THAT all about?! Anyway, since it's difficult for a an adult critic (as I have been accused of being at times) to judge a picture like this, I brought along my daughter to see this one with me just to be fair. When she only laughed at a few parts of this movie, I knew my assessment was not wrong. This is a ridiculously stupid film.Based on the much better Mark Twain story of the "Prince and the Pauper," the animated feline (voiced by Bill Murray) somehow gets mixed up with a pampered cat (voice of Tim Curry) living on a huge English estate. There's trouble afoot, though, as British stand-up comic, Billy Connelly, the nephew of the late owner, wants his share of the property and will do anything to get rid of the animals which inhabit the place, including trying to drown the Prince, shoot a duck and threaten his lawyers with a crossbow. You see, he wants to build a resort on the land - Oh, why even go on? Just because they move the location to the British Isles doesn't mean that any more class or intelligence was added to this stupid series. The dialog is silly and humorless, the situations are absurd (even for a goofy movie like this), and there's no chemistry between the two leads, Jon Arbuckle and Liz (Brekin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt, even though the whole adventure revolves around Jon prosing marriage to her). Fortunately, we see very little of this tepid couple throughout, so I suppose it's not all terrible. But the biggest crime of all is wasting the talents of Murrary, Bob Hoskins (a bulldog's voice), Curry and Connelly on this enterprise which smells like a full litter box in July.In fact, as allergic as I am to the meowing beasts, I'd rather spend 90 minutes in a room full of them than to ever have to see another "Garfield" flick again.Cat got my tongue? No, just my brain - for the duration of this movie, at least.
Yarn About Two Cats
posted on 08 Jun 2009The computer generated Garfield returns in "Garfield - A Tail of Two Kitties". I didn't like the first one, really, but this one is a little better, in a silly kind of way.
Jon Arbuckle (Breckin Meyer) wants to propose to his girfriend, Liz the vet (Jennifer Love-Hewitt), but she is moving to London to do animal rights work. Jon decides to follow her, rent a hotel and catch her there. His pet cat Garfield (voiced by Bill Murray) decides to come too, stowing away in his luggage. Meanwhile, at a famous Hall 40 miles from London, a cat named Prince (voiced by Tim Curry) has just inherited his owner's estate, chosen over the late Lady's closest living relative, her nephew Dargis (Billy Connoly). Dargis, knowing he'll inherit the stately home when the cat dies, dumps poor Prince in a river, and he floats downstream into the London sewers. Garfield and Prince have a close encounter, idenities are mistaken and lives are swapped. It's all very "Prince and the Pauper", except there's a giant lasagne in this story!
It's not a perfect film, not at all. The dialogue isn't spectacular, Jennifer Love Hewitt unintentionally steals the scene whenever she enters a room (in a bad way), and you can see most of the jokes coming. Still, I kind of liked it, in a so-silly-its-good kind of way. There are talking animals, great british locations, and Bill Murray (via Garfield) gets to sing, which I don't think I've heard before. Even though it is a little weak in places, it's kind of fun, I thought.
Worth a look if you're interested. Still prefer the comic strip, though.
If you like Garfield, you'll enjoy it, otherwise...
posted on 05 Jun 2009This is nothing more and nothing less than a typical sequel. Meaning it is very similar to and also slightly worse than the original. Having said that, I cannot but repeat what I mentioned in my review of 'Garfield 1': This is an entertaining movie that doesn't aspire to be anything else. Garfield's characterization is very good, albeit rather simplistic. Bill Murray is the one who actually gives Garfield his soul, he once again does such a great job with the voice, it's perfect! On the other hand, once again I found the main flaw of this film to be in the fact that the director concentrated on making a movie for kids, rather than for adults which would be more befitting for a Garfield movie. The plot is so simplistic it borders on retarded, and so is most of the "humans" acting.Thankfully though, Garfields' character and his gags and lines (as well as the excellent computer animation) lift the movie up just enough for it to be on an acceptable level of decent, watchable entertainment.
A good family film SPOILERS
posted on 30 May 2009I really like this film. It was better than the first one. This film is about a cat named Garfield and a cat named Prince. Prince and Garfield look alike. When Garfield's owner Jon follows his girlfriend named Liz to England where she has to deliver a speech Garfield comes and is swapped with Prince. Prince is a rich cat with a castle. Prince's butler can have the castle if something bad happens to Prince. He tries to get Prince but all of the animals in the castle stop him and Garfield comes back to Jon. Then Jon proposes to Liz. She accepts. This is a great family flick from the world's laziest cat, Garfield. Bill Murray does a great job as the cat and I think this is just a bit better than the original.
great physical comedy - better than first Garfield Movie
posted on 26 May 2009First - what this movie is NOT - it is not "deep", "meaningful" or "moving".What this movie was to us is great physical comedy, with a great balance between "realistic" characters (as realistic as two-dimensional comic characters ever are), outstanding animal training, good voicing (no, its not Shrek, but it all moves together smoothly and Bill Murray is "spot on"), and best of all, a great series of pratfalls, chases, falls, and scenes that kept my 11 year old son jumping and laughing for the whole 80 minutes. Its also very nicely balanced from a parent's perspective. I found nothing "embarrassing to watch", "hard to explain" or "out of age group." The bad guys are not "scary-bad", but funny bad. "High Risk" situations won't scare a young child, but carry the plot forward, and gave me plenty to chuckle (and sometimes laugh out loud) about. The baking Lasagna scene is wonderful for anyone who cooks with their children. In short, this was a great family movie that we all enjoyed.
More watchable than the first film
posted on 29 Apr 2009 Garfield the Tail of 2 Kitties is surprisingly entertaining after the first film was pretty lame. This film has it's lame parts but it's a lot less lame and a lot less dead in the water as part 1 was. Bill Murray is back and with his talents wasted once again as the voice of Garfield. At least he's not 100% wasted this time though. I mean the first gave him so little to work with that he was pretty much embarrassing himself.
In this one Jon (Breckin Meyer) goes to England to follow his g/f Liz (Jennifer Love Hewitt) who he plans on asking to marry him. Garfield and Odie hitchhike in Jon's luggage "of course they do or we wouldn't have a story". While another cat who just happens to look like Garfield just got a palice left to him his owner's will. Billy Connolly plays a jealous relative that is 2nd up for the place if anything happens to the cat. So of course he trys to get of the cat. While the cat is gone the butler finds Garfield and brings him to the palice. There Garfield meets cute talking animals such as a ferrett. They know Garfield isn't the Prince as they call him but they want him to pretend so they don't get stuck with Connolly as the owner for good.
The result is a harmless film that kids should love. Besides Murray doing a voice, you also have other talented actors such as Tim Curry, Bob Hoskins, Richard E. Grant and Vinnie Jones. This a cuter film and a better made one than the first. It's not perfect but it's less comparable to kittie litter than the first one and is almost as good as a Babe film.
very disappointing
posted on 26 Apr 2009Garfield: a tale of two kitties is a very disappointing movie compared to the first Garfield. I like the first one much better. It had more funny jokes, better moments and a much better plot/setting. This movie was very predictable and really boring. The weirdest part of all is how all the animals could talk but no humans understand what they're saying, that just sucked and was a big disappointment. This movie also isn't funny at all, all the "jokes" Garfield says aren't funny in the least bit. He tries so hard to act funny and cool it just doesn't work. This movie is only about 90mins but it felt like i was watching it for hours. Its really boring and not that great. This movie may be good for kids but is completely dull for teens and adults.I wouldn't recommend this movie at all, its a waste of time and day..."Good day sir, cheerio"- very gay line from the movie.
Dull and disappointing
posted on 14 Apr 2009This film is about Garfield and an identical looking British Royal cat being mixed up in identity."Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties" is not so entertaining even as a children's film. The plot is entirely predictable, and is not so interesting either. Garfield is portrayed to be unsympathetic and even annoying. Breckin Meyer's character looks entirely silly and redundant, and he could be cut away without much effect on the story. Bill Murray's voice over a Garfield is monotonous, dull and un-energetic. The lengthy scene where animals cook reminds me of "Ratatouille", but only 10% as adorable, entertaining and fun as "Ratatouille". Ian Abercrombie's character as a Smithee the butler is the only interesting and likable character in the film."Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties" is dull and disappointing. It fails to transform the magic from the original comic strips.
Not as bad as you'd think...
posted on 04 Apr 2009I give this movie a 6 out of 10, mostly because I was pleasantly surprised at how cute it was, when I was expecting a huge disaster. I took my younger brother to see it, who always wants to go see "bad" movies, and I get stuck taking him. I like Garfield, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't expecting much from this sequel to the below average original.I found myself laughing along to some of the cute quotes from other movie classics, as well as groaning to some of the musical montages of Garfield dancing around. But really, I think you'd prefer taking your kids to see this one instead of "Cars"...which bored the hell out of my niece and nephew.Just because it's a sequel, doesn't mean you should be quick to judge it so harshly, I give it some credit for not being as horrible as the Disney sequels to "Peter Pan", "Cinderella", and "Lady and the Tramp". Seriously, enough already.
Horrible sequel to what was originally a very good movie.
posted on 25 Mar 2009If you read my review for the first Garfield movie, you would remember that I said that very little hopes for it were crushed, right? This one crushes pretty much every hope I had for it. Garfield is now in England, and an uptight British cat that looks a lot like Garfield is there too. They switch places so Garfield gets royal treatment. I thought this movie was going to be great, but I was wrong. It is boring and I only laughed at a few scenes in this whole movie. I do not recommend this to anyone who hates kid movies or wanted a good sequel to the first Garfield. This movie bites.2.5/10 or: D+
Garfield 2
posted on 01 Mar 2009Garfield 2 is the sequel to Garfield, a live action movie based on the Garfield comic strips. The movie was released in 2004.Now, in 2006, the sequel follows, and is just a tad better than the first movie. It is entertaining and fun, and has a nicer setting (Great Britain FTW) but has a few moments of horrid jokes and scenes that will make you cringe in despair.Basically, Johns new girlfriend (Liz) is traveling to London to give a speech at Carlisle Castle, messing up Johns plan to propose to her. In desperate attempt to pop the question, John follows Liz to Britain, which results in Garfield getting swapped with an identical cat living in the castle. Thus, a huge chase against Lord Dargis, a man greedy to posses full ownership of the castle, begins and John must now find his real fat cat.The animation on Garfield is pretty much spot on. The fur is 100% real and the only thing not believable about him is his cartoony look, especially when compared to the normal farm animals seen in the movie. But overall, he is well animated and hilariously voiced by Bill Murray. In conclusion, Garfield 2 is a fun little comedy film to entertain people of all ages. A few dance scenes in the movie are appalling to watch and some jokes are unfunny as ever, but the acting is great and the film overall is a lot of fun.

Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties - The Cat's Meow But With Some Problems
posted on 27 Aug 2009Garfield returns in his usual fat cat, lasagna eating style. This film is filled with a great deal of fun and action but has several problems. (1)The doppleganger story has been done too many times and sorry to say this film would have been better with a fresh idea. (2)The use of animated animals can tend to get too silly and this happens toward the end of the film.
However, the scenes with the animals are surprisingly (at the beginning and middle of the film) mature and not too silly like the Doctor Dolittle films. Also, the villain is intersting and well acted. Bill Murry returns as the loveable cat as do Brecklin Meyer (John) and Jennifer Love Hewitt (Liz).
I do recommend you see this film/buy the DVD, because it is good. But what was so great about Garfield: The Movie was it played closer to Garfield's traits/cannon, meaning it featured familiar characters. If I were not a Garfield fan I would probably rate the film a 2.5 or a 3 on the Amazon.com scale.
Go see the film but don't expect it to be as great as the first.
