Not all rappers suck on screen...

posted on 26 Aug 2009

OK yes, 50 Cent's acting sucked, as did the movie (like many of us expected anything less when we plopped down our money at the box office) ..But I'm upset with the lack of respect some users have for those actors/actresses that DID make great careers (not always great MOVIES, but great careers) ... transitioning from rapper to actor ...Like LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Eve, Oscar nominee Will Smith, Mos Def, Mark Wahlberg (if you could call him a rapper, formerly known as Marky Mark) and Tupac Shakur ...Other than Tupac (RIP) most of the above have now transitioned from serious actors to comedic buffoons but they still have a pretty good history in film and television ...Now Nas, DMX, and the barely-acted-in-his-own-movie Eminem, I can understand but don't discredit the work of so many others just because they and Curtis Jackson sucked ass and people paid them for it ...

A great movie with bad reviews

Get rich or die trying is a good look at the inner city youth and the decisions they faced with. The raw gritty tale of a kid off the streets born into the drug trade is a good piece of cinema. The director does a good job showing this sector of our society. Curtis Jackson appears to be following the path of other rapper turned actor. This being Jackson first movie he does an exceptional job and expect even greater things from him in the future is chooses to continue movie role. The screen play has it's week points. Which I found unusually for the caliber of the writer. Overall it is worth the money. Don't wait for this to come to cable, see it now.

i think this movie was really good, it had everything, hot guys, hot chicks, great story line, great music, action, drama, comedy and real life situations. i can't believe how much hate you guys are giving it.and to tomduo from Miami there was nothing racist about that movie, your claimin that it was made to look like "black" people are criminals and all that, it wasn't, it was 50 cent's life up on screen, what he saw , what he dealt with and what he did, its not stero typing nobody, so get your head outta the clouds and come up with a better diss to this movie.same goes for anyone else thinking this movie was "racist"

Da best movie ever

50 was great in this movie...it gave me a new perspective of the real "Curtis Jackson". The struggle, the beat, the lifestyle, but best of all, the music. A city kid who grew up in the hustle and the "gangster" lifestyle who had to do what he had to do to get by. His passion was music and he set out to follow his dreams...whatever it took. Bullets obviously couldn't hold him back. But the best part of the movie to me was everything that had to do with him and his girl. 50 gave his heart to the "girl of his dreams" and did a good job doing it. All I have to say is congratulations on all the success 50! He's came along way but its worth it...

50 got it going on

This movie was damn good. The guy who wrote above is out of his mind. I thought 50 did a good job acting, and he didn't seem to be too over-dramatic anywhere, hes a gangster, and no one was gonna tell him anything he didn't wanna hear. when people begged him for stuff, he wasn't like "i have to do this" all he did was walk away. this movie was f'in motivational man. i thought 50's supporting cast was hot and they made the movie so much better. the movie tied together so well, this is a hit man. 50 has a bright career ahead of him, and everyone will see it man. it was sick how they tied in 50 as a kid and 50 as an adult now. As soon as 50 stops making records, he's gonna be an actor.

best film ever

IMDb reviewers are real sackless sheep. Everybody is bashing 50 Cent but very little of these rants posing as reviews actually speak about the actual movie. Let's get one thing straight. If you hate 50 so much that you cant even write a partial review on this movie don't review it. Im not fond of 50 as a rapper and as a person but that is a lousy reason to give this movie bad reviews. Get Rich Or Die Trying is loosely based on the life of Curtis Jackson and based on that reason its pretty good. 50 plays himself and there are good performances from Terrance Howard as well as Joy Bryant who plays 50's girlfriend in the movie. Bill Duke is pretty good as the boss of the organization 50 links up with. The movie covers his childhood as well is how he became to be a rapper. One might question the authenticity of the story being told in this movie(this being the movie's real flaw) but as far as entertainment goes I enjoyed myself. Its a shame when people allow the nut-swallowing groupies that run amok on IMDb dictate to you what is quality movies. These weirdos think that defending movies that were rightfully panned like Freddy Got Fingered, Nothing But Trouble, Batman and Robin, The Musketeer, The Black Dahlia makes them hip and cool and not pathetic posers in dire need of a life. And as far as acting goes last time I checked, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Leonardo Dicaprio, Brad "Musty Arm" Pitt(overrated beyond belief), Chuck Norris are not real actors! To all of you reasonable people out there do not allow the circus freaks on IMDb to tell you what counts for quality cinema because you will be disappointed every time. There are a lot of great movies that never made the Top 250. Just goes to show you the bandwagon mentality of these pseudo intellectual rodents. And as far as the sheep go, I wouldn't waste time trying to reason with you. I'd rather beat you senseless when I see you in public you gutless cowards! Go fawn over the ever-so-overrated Quentin Tarantino like the spineless groupies you are.PS: to the token that apologized online for 50 Cent instead of writing an actual review on the movie, grow some sack will ya? You and your fraudulent Caucasian friends deserve each other. Duplicitous vermin deserve each other. BRING ON THE UNHELPFUL VOTES!!!

No clue!

I watched tha movie and as 50's fan,I'd expected a better movie.Well,it's good,a bit emotional and stuff but i seem to not understand it clearly. But then maybe I need to go watch it the second time 'cos I completely didn't understand the whole movie.I mean it doesn't show much details about 50's life and I expected much more about the tsotsi life of 50 than shown.Another thing is i'm still to be convinced that wot is shown is 50's biography as it is.There were some modifications 2 it,so it lacks some originality. But then like I said maybe I need to go watch it the second time 2 understand it better, the first time I almost slept watchin' it.But again,it's not ready for garbage heap!

Awful Awful Awful. 50 Cent is the worst actor ever along with this movie

posted on 15 Jul 2009

Look there is not much to say about this film only that its one of the worst pieces of crap I have seen in a while. It ranks up there with Kazaam and House of the Dead. I mean seriously Hollywood could have done better than to give 50 Cent his own movie. Hell his music is OK (would never buy an album though) but as an actor, he was better at comedy than drama cause face it, its funny to see him try to act. and the worse part about his acting is that he said it wasn't hard acting cause it brought him back to his roots and how he was, well hell if it wasn't that hard than maybe you shouldn't have seem like you were overacting and just act normal. I know a camera is there but its not hard to forget about it. Eminem did a hell of a lot better job in '8 Mile' then Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson did here. I'm telling you to spend your 10 bucks to see 'Derailed' rather than this piece that should go back to the stacks.

Awesome movie!!

Great movie. Even if I hadn't liked 50 cent, i would still love this movie. It is a great representation of life in the ghetto. I remember people doing things like this a while back. Extremely good movie. I would recommend to anyone! Has nudity scenes, so not for younger viewers unless they are ready to see both men and women naked. I had to send my son out of the room. Many people think that because 50 Cent is a good rapper, he can't make a good movie. This isn't the case in this movie. It has many representations of how poorer people made their money. I didn't get a chance to see it in the theaters, but I would have if I would have had the chance. I have seen things about 50's life, but none like this. The best part of the movie is probably at the end, so you have to watch the whole movie to understand it. Also, you can't just come into the middle of the movie and really get it.

Great movie, and yes good acting as well!!

Some people are saying that this movie is another gangster movie etc... tell me one gangster movie with the same plot... There is not any. Eminem, 8 mile was trailer trash turned rapper, this was drug dealer, yes, there is a big difference. And, 50 cents acting was not bad, it was true to life and just a replica of how the gangster world is... So all these people commenting i don't know what they've been watching to compare this movie to, but 8 mile is not a comparison, yet everyone is making it one!! Go 50 cent, it was a great movie and made me understand his music a whole lot better, i love him and the movie... Talent, talent, talent!

Pretty good for 50cent movie but no 8 mile

I went to see this movie the first day It came out. I was eager to see it and had really hi expectations for it. I knew it that it was based somewhat from is story or his actual story. But either way it started off pretty good then led more into the story. But Overall there is some intense movie sequences which I didn't expect. I really start to feel for 50 cent's character which his Marcus in the movie. But It even showed some childhood scenes which really made me feel sad for him. But I went expecting to see a more 8 mile type of movie. If that is what type of movie your expecting this to be. You will be disappointed! But it had a lot of good scenes of 50 in the booth and his struggle so overall I gave it a 6.0

Great Movie that keeps it real

I'm so tired of supposed based on "real life" movies. These movies get over acted and veer far from the reality and what "real-life persons" life really is. This movie didn't do that. I admit there was some overacted parts but I am sure this was due to the studio exec's push. I remember early Tupac movies and "50" just needs more practice under his belt and he will be successful as well. People tend to forget that most actors only act during the filming. "50" acted, contributed as well as kept his usual hectic and already overflowing career going as well as doing the whole soundtrack. People need to give this man the credit he deserves instead of always holding people down. This movie would have made a bigger splash at theaters if it wasn't for over hyped media warnings on danger of attending. I am a 31 year old half-Mexican half white professional college educated male and i brought my 6 and 5 year old boys (who love 50) to this movie with no problems. Everyone always wants to throw rocks but forget they life in glass houses too.Brad Jaurique

Surprisingly GOOD

Considering all of the events that made this movie come to life, it is really a great movie. Stop the haters, and give the movie the props that it deserves. 50 is a rapper not an actor, yet he did an excellent job for his first movie. I don't like rap or the "gangsta" lifestyle, however to be a true movie critic one has to be able to realize that "his view" of the world is the "reality" of the world. In this movie you have a young black man trapped in a world of lawlessness, and yet he is able to overcome all obstacles and make something "legitimate" out of his life. This movie kept my attention the whole time!!! PLEASE watch the extras, it will help you to understand the reality of a world that most people only read about in the newspaper. Don't pass this one by, WATCH IT.

People Criticizing Get Rich Or Die Trying cuz of their hatred for 50

posted on 05 Jun 2009

I don't believe that this movie is meant to represent Black Men, it is meant to represent Curtis Jackson, and his life. I'm sure he wasn't thinking about every other black man when the movie was made about his life. The reason I am giving it an 8 is the accuracy on how the film reflects his life. It was meant to show his struggle and how he came up. It was real and if anything it made me appreciate his music even more. People who are judging him and his movie are the same people who judged him before they saw the movie. They are 50 haters and will hate no matter what that man does. The movie was well writtin and whoever saw the movie and was offended by the violence and the way 50 came up should not have watched it, because the movie was everything it was supposed to be. A lot of people have hard lives but do not have the money or the fame to get it together. The man executed that movie and his music through his struggles. Anyone that has a true appreciation for Gangster movies and music should agree that this man told his story and proved his point as to why he's as successful it is. My advice is if your a 50 "hater" or you hate the truth of the streets then don't watch the movie. And for the people judging the movie are really judging the life that he was dealt. Don't make it about a gang thing or a black thing. It's not about you. If it was about you, you'd be getting paid. Now tell the truth, the man executed his life story and it was good enough to make the big screen. If only I could get paid for my story....

50 Cent cashes in on his temporary fame!

posted on 30 May 2009

OK, first things first, its the worst movie I ever saw. 50 Cent is a horrendous actor, the director made the movie stale and boring, with little dimension to it, and the screenplay was pathetic, horrible one-liners that seem like they were written by a 12 year old foul mouthed kid.OK, how long has 50 Cent been around? 2 years? Tops, 3? OK, now he made how many albums? 1 or 2? I dunno, I don't listen to rap so I would have no idea.OK, but the point is, he has not been in fame for over 5-10 years, so why is he STARRING in a MOVIE as the MAIN CHARACTER in a movie ABOUT HIMSELF!?! What kind of ego is that? and yeah he got shot 5 times, but who cares? Even if I had a LEGIT story about myself, and I was famous for 25 years, and if I was in a war(or a gang fight, whatever the case), and got shot 5 times... I still wouldn't have the ego and greed to star in a movie about myself.50 Cent cashed out on his fame, and I don't hear ANYTHING about him now! Hes not popular anymore? Another rap fad/phase that it's listening/viewing "community" is going through, now its gonna be some NEW gangster "off da' hook" "crunk" "G-unit" "Pimp". Who's next? And whats THEIR excuse for being able to make it into the music/movie business? Simply don't watch this horrible movie.

Why does everybody trash this movie?

posted on 26 May 2009

Every comment I have seen about this movie is one trashing it. It wasn't that bad of a movie. Don't trash it just because you don't understand a single thing going on in the movie. The only things really missing from this movie are, a better performance from 50 cent and better dialogue.I'm not going to lie, 50 Cent's performance wasn't that great. A great supporting cast made up for it. Terrance Howard, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joy Bryant, Viola Davis, Sullivan Walker, and Bill Duke, all gave terrific performances. If you like rap movies, give this one a shot, if you don't, stay away from this movie.

This movie is great and if u haven't seen it yet, go and see it. Don't take other people's word for it, see it for yourself! WARNING! some spoilers: I love everything about it except the jail shower scene, but for all u ladies, u get to see his ass. His girl is hot as hell. the movie goes through his life as a child up to now. it show when he gets shot, it shows when his kid is born. Very good detail and very, very real! The soundtrack for the movie is just as great, if not better. You have to go see this movie soon! so go check it out! remember that in the beginning when he get shot is a preview of the whole movie! In the end he has his rapping life workin out great!

No, this film is good.

Right, I watched this movie when it first came out and really enjoyed it. I've only properly looked on here now and noticed that people seem to hate this film. I don't understand why.The film is overall good, the acting is alright, but who went to see this film expecting the acting was going to be amazing anyway? It's a life story about 50 Cent who most people only don't like him because of his genre of music. The film follows his life and how he came into where he was today, obviously some parts added extra for the film but overall and quote "about 75% accurate" of his life.I've liked rap music for years ranging from Run DMC to 50 Cent and I don't see why everyone hates 50 so much. He's is one of the highest paid rappers of this time and he still doesn't get the respect he deserves. And which brings to consideration how does that make him not worthy of his own film.I actually think this film is amazing because of the concept, how he came from nothing to where he is today. If anything, people don't like him because how easy he has life now, but in due respect, he earned it.So I'm saying don't be put off by all these haters saying it's the worst movie, because it really isn't. If you don't like the rap genre or drug/gangster culture then sure you're not going to enjoy this as much as those that do but that's like most films. So watch for yourself. The rating is definitely not what this deserves.

When I saw this movie I was very disappointed, not only because it was one of the worst movies i have seen but because it was suppose to be a story roughly about is life. So I thought I was going to see him on the screen betraying all of his friends before he got rich and throwing stuff at them in his concert. I'm glad it's on the worst 100 movies of all time and i hope one day its makes it too #1 on that list. But i think 50 will probably buy a few thousand IMDb accounts and vote 10 with all of them before that happens. 50 thought he could be just like eminem and make a movie just as good if, and if not better than 8 mile. But the when the top selling movies of the week came out and chicken little put it to shame everyone told their friends not to waste their time or more importantly, their $10. Thats all i have too say. Gunot.
