Lame and Worthless

This movie was so boring. This movie is meant for people who probably have a IQ below zero. This movie is garbage. Little kids might liked this movie, if they're fans of the Home Alone movies. But Adults BEWARE!!!*1/2

Another great Mac Culkin film

A great family film. I loved Mac's hair, I want it so much. It's about this 11-year old boy, Timmy Gleason (Mac Culkin) who sees his dad, Ray (Ted Danson) after years and years. All his dad cares about is getting some coins with his gawky friends Bobby (Saul Rubinek) and Carl (Gailard Sartain). Then after getting ignored, Timmy hides the coins somewhere and the only way they can get them back is if they do whatever he wants them to do with him. Then his dad meets a detective named Theresa Walsh (Glenne Headly) after Timmy comments on her scarf and then Ray falls in love with her. I loved the part when Timmy held up a bra and said 'Is this one of yours? Ooooooohhhh-la-la'. So rent it, watch it, laugh, and if you love it, own it. XD

The Best Movie With Macaulay Culkin!!!

When first saw this movie on Abc Familey I knew I was going to like it.This movie also has Ted Danson it.It's about Father & Son Relationship.Macaulay Culkin looks older in this movie than the others he did like Both Home,Uncle Buck & My Girl.He was propbably 13 at that time he made that movie.I loe this movie,I gotta get this movie!!!!

Blackmail can be fun.

An estranged son(Macaulay Culkin) tries to blackmail his ex-con father(Ted Danson) into spending time with him. Danson and two cronies pull of a rare coin heist and then Culkin arrives wanting to share father and son time. The coins are used to blackmail the ponytailed Danson into pleasing the obnoxious Culkin. HOME ALONE(1990) and MY GIRL(1991)were at least worth watching. This is neither funny or interesting. Danson fares well in his arrogant way. Gleene Headly is not believable as a detective. Also in the cast are:Gailard Sartain, Saul Rubinek and Hector Elizondo. Geared for the grammar school set.

good comedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved this movie,I thought ted danson was excellent playing that self centered father, and culkin once again does a great job with playing a smarty.I also loved the fact that it was filmed on location in san francisco at places such as embarcadero bart station, chinatown, the aquarium, and golden gate park.

Very good, very overlooked

In yet another enjoyable performance, Macaulay Culkin plays an 11 year old kid who has not had that much quality time with his dad, who is an ex-con. Just as his father (Ted "Sam Malone" Danson) is about to commit one final robbery, Culkin arrives for a visit and disrupts his fathers plans. In turn, Culkin hides his father's loot that was just stolen and only says he will give it back if his father does time-- as a dad. Culkin is great as usual, and Danson does as good a job as he did as his "Cheers" womanizer. It does bear a little resemblence to the "Home Alone" movies, eespecially two of Dansons' cohorts (Saul Rubineck and Gailard Sartain). But it makes the movie all the more fun. Don't miss this one!

Great film

I think this is one of the better films Macaulay Culkin did during his child actor career. It was generally poor received by critics, but it's still one of my favorites. Culkin delivers a great performance. This is a must have for any Culkin fan.

The movie starts in pretty interesting fashion when Macauley Culkin is deposited on the doorstep of his father, Ted Danson, just as he and his mates are preparing for a heist. However, the movie soon degenerates into "Home Alone" style antics as the young son brilliantly outsmarts his father time and time again. This all seems very familiar. Eventually the movie ends after nearly 2 1/2 hours of capers and disbelief. I wish they had of keeped the son out of it- police trying to 'get even' with the crooks sounds like a much better movie.

What a Disaster!

Getting Even with DadAwful story about a smart-a$$ed kid (Macaulay Culkin) who goes to live with his crook of a father (Ted Danson) and ends up stealing his father's (and accomplices') stash of money they've stolen from a bank. He promises to give it back if his dad hangs out with him and treats him like most sons. There's a lot of feuding between father and son in this dismal and unfortunate tale that tries to prove kids are smarter than their parents and can control them with a bit of blackmail. If this movie had been released thirty years ago...I can only imagine what parents would have done to the copies.Besides, apart from the stupid message of the film, it's just a bad movie. Macaulay Culkin has finally outgrown his childhood and for once the critics started to notice he couldn't act (like he ever could! He got lucky with "Home Alone"--it was good because of Pesci and the rest of the cast, not him). Danson is equally annoying in the role of his father, who seems to have been born without a personality. Yes, Danson is very watered down in this movie. To be honest, I don't blame him--this is the type of stuff that belongs on made-for-TV movies. You know your career has hit rock-bottom when you're in something like this. And just think, this was made somewhere around ten years ago. What a disaster.* / *****

This movie was lame and made me want to cry I couldn't get through the first hour. Really bad plot w/ really bad dialouge = really really bad movie just the case gives me bad memories

Culkin fans should love this movie. The movie has a good message. Home Alone fans should not be disappointed. Danson is at his best in this film.

more respect-less profanity

I'm sorry to say that this movie was ruined by today's standard of decency. Its bad enough we can't protect our kids from the world but we really should be able to put in a pg movie and get good laughs not profanity and a complete lack of respect for the Lords house of worship. I was totally appauled with the actions in the church as if using the Lords name in vain was'nt enough. What happened to pg being 1 or 2 bad words and that was it. Todays standards are totally wrong. Years ago that would have been rated R. It would have been a terrific movie but they feel if there isn't a lot of cussing and bad manners no one will enjoy it, well they're dead wrong. Let's clean up the act for our future generation, after all what we put into the future is what we're going to get back. Feed kids garbage and what do you think they will produce?

Wait a minute-I'm confused [...]

I have mixed feelings on this movie. Is the Culkin kid dude or woman? Its like he's both genders. I wonder if Ted Danson knows? I mean i know he's a dude in home alone and saved but then there's this and party monster and i think "Is this Shlong, i'm watching or is this thing, this creature a Chic?
Does anyone know? What happened to becker? Has anyone ever seen this movie? I guess not.

This was an almost forgettable flick, but then I remembered

posted on 24 Nov 2002

Saturday August 14th, 1994. I was still rather uncertain about the future. I had asked Jesus into my heart 2 days before watching this movie, and thought things would be a breeze. Don't hold your breath Dan. It got even more confusing as I was trying to get with one of 2 girls at this time. One was the daughter of the woman who planted the seed for me to come to Jesus, and another one was a baby Christian who was in love with someone else. Well I went out with the girl of the woman, and I made so many mistakes that night. For starters I didn't know how to do a date properly. I made her pay for her ticket, and then she brought her cousin along, so I couldn't consider this to be a proper date anyway. It was a movie I really wasn't all that up to seeing anyway after Caulkin did "The Good Son", and the forgettable "Nutcracker" I felt his talent was spent as far as the movies would go. This had Danson as a Sam Malone wannabe. Apparently things didn't go too well with Whoopie, and he would try to get back into the groove rather quickly with doing another shallow character who was only concerned about himself. Well this was supposed to be a comedy, but it was far too serious. They would also use the Countors "Do You Love Me" for the umpteeenth millionth time, and what seemed like it was supposed to be a simple cute movie turned out into being a long-drawn out night not only for the movie, but also me. I learned alot that night, and it was stored away until now. Here are the lessons I want to pass onto you:

For those about to date I salute you.

1. Pay for you and your date. If your date brings someone along for protection use discretion, and know your budget you may be able to pay for them too which could, and I emphasize "COULD" get you some brownine points with the girl.

2. There's no such thing as "Dutch" unless you 2 get serious and steady.

3. Go with what your heart tells you. Don't be confused with what anyone tries to tell you. I know that morning that the woman was trying to say "Back Off", and if she doesn't respond it wasn't meant to be. I know that it's a risk, and believe me I feel that if I wasn't desparate I wouldn't have bothered with her too much after the first couple of times when she say "Call Me", but she'd not be home, and I would not hear from her again. However, begin to learn about discernment through books on dating, and from your peers.

4. Give it up for getting that all important "First Kiss" It won't happen unless you do everything immaculate. Don't even think of getting her pants off either. Movies lie to you about that. If you tried, and this is coming from a man who gets frustrated quick Don't go away mad.

5. Be sure to take care of yourself. I mean the car I drove was an eyesore, and because I didn't know how to take care of those things the girl actually took the dented part off because she was experienced with that; how humiliating. If you don't know how to do car repair you can learn online, or have a friend help you learn. Also...well this is one thing I did know about, and that was Come to your date reasonably clean.

6. Of course thank the girl for going out with you.

These are just 6 of the lessons I learned that night, and the movie well I almost forgot about it until recently. I just feel it's a long, drawn-out flick that was top heavy on the serious side of comedy. It was probably worthy of at least 2 razzies.

Macaulay Culkin in his best

posted on 20 Nov 2002

I've always thought Macaulay Culkin's performance in `Getting Even With Dad' is his best one together with `Home Alone'. It's a shame he's been out of scene in the last years, what forces us to go for his old films.Culkin's partner in the movie is Ted Danson, who again shows he can do his part in comedies, like he did in `Three Men and a Baby'. Danson's a thief who now has to deal with an unexpected problem: his ex-wife leaves their son (Culkin) with him once he hasn't looked after him for years. The boy wants some attention from his dad, so he hides the coins his father has stolen before he could use it. If the thief wants his coins back, he must give the boy some good time. My Rate 7/10

Funny but filled with Blunderous

posted on 03 Oct 2002

Getting Even with Dad really isn't the best nor popular movie.Besides Macaulay Culkin who isn't that famous these days but still was when the film was released and maybe perhaps Ted Danson (who seems to have a fair number of films, although I don't know the ones he plays in), the cast list contains people that aren't that famous/big (except I did recognize one, I'll later point out).Macaulay Culkin (from such films like Uncle Buck, Home Alone 1 & 2, Richie Rich, and Good Son) plays as a pain in the neck but yet very smart young teenager Timmy Gleason who seeks attention, sometimes in very wrong ways. Like at the start he's video taping his new Uncle Wayne (Dann Florek) eating 3 cheese burgers and saying he's an alien, which doesn't end well at all. His Aunt Kitty (Kathleen Wilhoite) later decides that Timmy would be better off with his dad Ray Gleason (Ted Danson) while she and Wayne go on their honeymoon (and to tell the truth Wayne is a bit short-fused).However Ray who's currently a cake decorator (also ex-con) and his two friends Bobbie Drace (Saul Rubinek) and Carl (Gailard Sartain) currently have other plans. Planning one last felony that will help Ray settle into his career. When Timmy arrives things get complicated and he soon suspects something because his dad isn't all excited to see him.He soon finds out for sure that Ray and his friends stole a coin collection worth $1,500,000 after some complications arise. When more complications arise, the three find out that Timmy has sent the coins and them on video tape to a friend (named Jason, who we never see) who'll turn them unless they obey Timmy. Timmy wants his father to take him out and spend time with him, and agrees that if they do well he'll tell him where the coins are.But more and more complications arise as the police are onto them (spying on them to every place they go to), without them realizing.Lt. Romayko (Hector Elizondo) head of the police department lets Theresa (Glenne Headly) on this case even though she's on probation. She mainly tailgates Ray and Timmy (and later gets caught up and hanging out with them). Others are Zin (Ron Canada) who at one point tailgates Timmy and Alex (Sam McMurray - played Mr. Bateman in Wizard) who tailgates Carl and Bobbie.Bobbie and Carl are basically the highlights of this film. Bobbie is a very tough street smart who is very defensive but yet dumb. Carl is dumber. He dresses nice but is always winding up messing his clothes up because he's eating all the time (he even takes a shine to Timmy when he buys decent food). It especially gets funny when they find a treasure map that they think leads to the stolen coins. But overall this film is funny although filled with unreal blunders (which somehow work their way out).

Millions of Dollars In Rare Coins In The Palm of Your Hand. What's the Worst That Could Happen? Answer: Your kid could show up, hide them, and want you to bond with him.

Ray Gleason, and his pals Bobby and Carl, are planning the heist of the century. Apparently some old bird kicked the bucket and the cops find a truck load of rare coins in a trunk in her attic, so the state confiscates them. These coins are worth millions. Maybe even billions, and Ray, Bobby and Carl want it! So they got the robbery all planned out. What's the worst that could happen?
[MIGHT CONTAIN A SPOILER OR TWO] Ray's sister Kitty, who just got married to a dolt, drops off Ray's son, Tim. (Macaulay Culkin in his last movie, before flushing his life and his career downthe toilet). Tim wants to spend time with Dad, but Dad's busy. Next day, they pull the heist and feel they have the money in the palms of their greedy hands. But the person who cashes the coins for dollars can't do it until next week, so Tim hides the coins and says if Dad spends time with him and takes him places, he'll tell him where the coins are. So Ray and Tim go to the museum, the amusement park, the water slide, baseball game, and a miniature golf corse. Bobby and Carl tag along.
Bobby and Carl find a treasure map that might lead themto the coins. Bobby demands to be the leader and keeps leading them in the wrong directions because he thinks he's smarter than the kid. But he sure isn't. Ray and Tim play a game of basketball and Ray teaches Tim how to pick up girls. A police woman detective, Theresa, waswatching and saved Tim from being hit by a car. Ray and Theresa get to like one another. And after the whole adventure is over, Tim is going to move in with Ray, and since he's lost millions of dollars and gained a permanent houseguest, he should go drown himself. In his own words.
This is a good movie. I watch it alot. It was a good idea and all the characters each learn what happens when you try to outsmart an 11-year-old kid.

A true American classic comedy!

Getting Even With Dad takes Macaulay Culkin's "Home Alone" magic and applies it to another hilarious plot! Mac shines in this 1994 romp that takes him on a hilarious journey through San Francisco along with Ted Danson of "Cheers" fame. Mac is glowing with charm and probably his best hairstyle to date. It is a "must-see" in my book. 10 out of 10.

I've enjoyed this movie as easy watching for years since I accidentally recorded it off the TV. My sister and I've always assumed it was called "Paying Back Dad", because.. that's clearly a better title. :]And that's my only complaint, beyond the occasional overly stupid pratfall.Ted Danson plays a macho ex-con cake decorator who throws a plant out a window and falls over while ice-skating and still gets the lady, and Macaulay Culkin gets a musical segment. Also it opens with a heist, and the heart-warming climax happens on a bus. If you do not like these things, you are wrong!

extremely fair family comedy that highlights macaulay culkin's plunge into cheesiness. it's very unfortunate that such a talented child actor had to be forced down the tubes with fare like this and pagemaster. i guess you'll like it if you're a ted danson fan, but that's about it
