good but lacked the inspiration and spirit of the first flick

Goal 2 - Living the Dream. Only for people who have watched Goal 1...if you haven't then go and watch goal 1 first...after that you will be dying to watch the sequel. Goal 2 is good. I am sure all football fans and Real Madrid fans in particular will be delighted to see their favorite stars in action from time to time in the movie...but somehow it lacked the spirit and flair of the first flick...the emotions and the inspiration that you got from d first are missing...but again....not many sequels prove to be as good as d first...The story carries on from where the first one ended with our boy Santiego Munez proving his worth for New Castle Utd. and getting all the adulation that he deserves...things begin to change with him being offered a place in the star studded Real Madrid club...where he finds hard to cope with the media attention and suddenly comes face to face with his mother who had left him when he was a kid and also meets his younger stepbrother...which results in him spending one night in jail and almost losing her cute British girlfriend and breaking ties with his old manager. But dear Santi manages to overcome all that and gets back to doing what he does best...playing football with all his heart...and we love him for that...

Absolutely beautiful!

I think that the movie was absolutely excellent! I think that it is even more than what I expected it to be, because it goes deeper than the first one. I appreciate a lot about the script the fact that it follows life's "precedure", so to speak: bad luck brings not one, but many misfortunes. I also think that it shows very well how it is extremely hard to maintain oneself on top once one gets there. The action sequences are meticulously combined with the dramatic and romantic moments, which maintain a certain rush of adrenaline. I definitely loved how the football matches were shot and the effects and the music was more than perfect! Sure there are some little exaggerations(some of the goal, some of the football stunts), but the shivers that one gets when seeing Raul, Beckam, Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Zidane and other football stars giving their best on the pitch is worth every second of it. My recommendation is to watch it...and to feel it! Because football comes from the heart!

Not engaging, not fun

I watched the first movie when it released in the cinemas, and although it was highly unrealistic (all the chances he miraculously gets), I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the movie mixed the highs with the lows believably. There was decent acting, a good story, and as previously mentioned, although a bit far fetched, it made for good watching. However goal 2 had me bored far before the end. It was just the most ridiculous story I have ever seen. From terrible high speed car chases to plain boring sequences, the movie just seemed like an assortment of hundreds of genres, with minimal football. All in all I thought it had tremendous potential had it just stuck to a footballers troubles in his footballing world, rather than try to get stuck in a long boring drama.

Better than expected

I was expecting to be grossly disappointed by this sequel, after the first offering which blew me away ((being a Newcastle fan and all)) I was pleasantly surprised however at the ease at which the story flowed between Santiago's time at Newcastle, to his blossoming career at Real Madrid.A real heartbreaking moment was when he allowed the money and dizzy heights of his new found fame go to his head, and pushed away the lovely Roz.An upside however was Santiago finally finding his long lost mother and a stepbrother he never knew he had...All in all, a rollicking good watch for all concerned.

There are no good Football movies

posted on 15 Jul 2009

This is not a good Football movie (Yes I said Football because thats what its called, not soccer)Generally football movies aren't good because they truly fail to capture what is so great about the game. Also I watch the Cahmpions league and many of the games from the Spanish league and it doesn't work for me when you actually know what truly happened in those games, for example Madrid lost against Arsenal, and actually didn't get that far in champions that year. I agree with what many of you have said, the film is a HUGE Adidas commercial and the fact that when the movie came out, many of the players weren't in Real Madrid anymore. and Im sorry but Owen for Muñez is not a plot twist, that actually happened, the difference is that Owen was bought by Newcastle not switched. The main problem with the movie is that if you are a true football fan you know that many of stunts pulled off in the movie could never be pulled off in real life and that is where the movie looses a lot of its credibility. The cameos of famous players were fantastic although I don't agree with the over exposure of Beckham but the other cameos are great. And trust me the third one is going to be bad the first one was not bad, the third one was bad and I truly hope the next one isn't worse than this one.

A predictable movie that was more about glamour and lifestyle than soccer.

I have to say that, for a long time, I didn't even bother watching any of the two "Goal!" movies because of my bad experiences with a few other soccer movies I've seen in the past. However, last week I happened to stumble upon the first movie while it was shown on TV and I kinda liked it, giving it an IMDb rating of 8 out of 10 stars. Although it was definitely not an excellent movie, having a few plot holes and a quite predictable ending, it was still a surprisingly good soccer movie with an otherwise decent plot. Logically, I wanted to see the sequel and therefore decided to rent it on DVD a few days later. However, the second "Goal!" movie was a huge disappointment. It was nothing but another below-average soccer movie with a boring and predictable plot. While the beginning was more or less promising, the rest of the movie was just a bunch of nonsense. It wasn't even about soccer anymore. Throughout the movie, the scenes of a soccer match would only occasionally appear on screen for a few minutes, while the rest was about disco clubs, parties, expensive cars, love affairs, family problems, paparazzi, filming of TV commercials... All in all, a bunch of more or less uninteresting situations already seen in numerous movies about famous musicians or film stars. The ending was also as predictable as it gets, with the main character's new club, Real Madrid, winning the Champions League in a similar fashion as his previous club, Newcastle United, qualified for the Champions League in the first movie, coming back from 2-0 down to win the game 3-2 in the final few minutes. I rated this movie 3 out of 10 stars, but the rating could have easily been lower. It is undoubtedly one of the worst movies I've seen in the last few months. One more thing, it was quite unusual to see another sequel being announced at the end of such a terrible movie. I'm not sure if I'm going to give it a try, it surely can't be much better than this.

Just as good if not better!

The first Goal was a great movie that i believe every soccer fan should view. With my first beliefs this one could not catch up I stand corrected. This movie had just as much passion and love for the game and the characters as the other one. Great camera work, amazing/thrilling moments throughout all to form a great movie experience!!! Definitely worth the watch for any soccer fan. All characters are well presented, and the movies plot is not lost throughout as young Munez finds his way as a real first class soccer player. My favorite part of this movie is that all of my favorite players are seen as players who play with Munez.

a better Part 2 but much more of a CHICK Flick material!

posted on 15 Jun 2009

Goal is, I think is Better than Part 1 but HEY not that good either. Well it's a Average movie that looks most of the times like a CHICK FLICK. I know right, this is a movie on a Foot-ball Star… Well the family stuffs are bound to be CHICKY Flicky. The thing I am saying is that this movie may work more with the Female genders.Anyways there were some Ridiculous Scenes in the movie. That KID – well there's this Kid in the movie- who almost ruined the PLOT. The movie does get Impossible at times. Its at time like watching a SOAP TV Show! The Conflict between the Husband and Wife is almost Ridiculous. Its both of there's fault. HOW STUPID is it that in months they don't even have a Talk on the CELL PHONE?All in all this is a OK film. Not really Good Not really BAD either.Well if u don't Brainstorm on the Flaws than this might be a nice Chick Flick!6/10

Good sequel, the saga continues . . .

Just saw Goal 2 earlier today, opening day across the UK. I must say that it was a solid sequel to the first, which I enjoyed thoroughly. Anyone who liked the first Goal movie should enjoy this. It continues the story of Santiago who gets transferred to mega-team Real Madrid in the opening sequences and follows his new life in Spain. Massive paychecks and beautiful women begin to get to Santi's head and we see a darker, perhaps weaker side of our hero in this chapter. All the main characters from the first Goal have roles in the sequel as well as cameos by superstars like Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul and Beckham. Solid sequel that is recommended to all fans of the original! If you haven't seen Goal yet, you should catch that before seeing part 2.

Everything and a little football here

posted on 03 Jun 2009

Don't expect to see a lot of football here cause there isn't. Its a drama. Has everything --- infidelity, high speed pursuit, sex, etc, etc, etc.And yes it shows glimpses of some high class footballers like Beckham, Zidane, Raul, etc but thats about it.The movie stresses more off field than on it. Football is the backdrop. The high life , the fast cars and the glamorous girls of sports industry are a big part of the flick . Well one does not expect the story of two long lost brothers in a sports film, but this one has that bit too!!.I was not expecting more out of this after Goal and it does not even meet my humble expectations.

the game is called FOOTBALL not soccer

posted on 14 May 2009

Problem with these 2 'Goal' football (yes Americans, the game is called FOOTBALL not soccer) movies is that they are blatantly ridiculous. And actually -a fact that no one seems to notice- there's a lot of interesting stuff going on in football's REAL LIFE -more interesting i'd say, then in these stupid 'goal'-movies where the hero goes from illegal immigrant to winning the champions league in approximately one (1) year. That's the level of a ten year old, i'd say, or as i may add, of an American audience that for some strange reason never seems to get bored by the same old storyline in a different movie. Let's throw in a car chase, let's throw in some kissing, let's throw in some celebs ,oh yeah, some unrealistic football action before we forget, and ready is our SOCCER movie. That's the biggest problem. Hollywood doing a football film will NEVER NEVER work. Any volunteers from other sides of the world?

Funniest movie that isn't meant to be funny

posted on 06 May 2009

I don't remember when i last laugh this much when i saw a movie (might have been when i saw the first goal movie) there are so many errors in this movie that it's impossible not to laugh at it. for an example they start of by showing the "El Classico" from 2006 then they jump straight to the summer (El Classico was in march or april) then they have the bar called Miguel Angel in madrid and Angel is a Barca Icon so the idea of having a bar in Madrid named after one of their arch rivals is not possible. Only see this movie if u want to laugh at errors and not to take it to serious because European football is nothing at all the way they put it in the movie (And the Champions League is not played like the superbowl playoff there are 2 games in the quarter, semi-finals so it's not enough to win just one game)

I feel like kicking Jaume Collet-Serra into the goalpost.

posted on 04 May 2009

Not too many words can be wasted on this movie. I have already wasted 2 and half hours of my life. To cut the long story short, this movie is all about the high society indulgence and a really lame story. The story lifts off from where it's predecessor left - Munez gets into Real Madrid. He becomes a part of high society, thereby drifting off from his loved ones. He searches for his mother and his step brother plays, It's about how he ... heck, the story is so badly narrated that I am not able to write a summary.Danny Cannon did a way better job in Goal! The Dream Begins than Jaume Collet-Serra who has absolutely destroyed what could have been a potentially brilliant drama. That's it. I refuse to write anymore for this piece of garbage. Did I mention that I feel like kicking Jaume Collet-Serra into the goalpost.

Expectation levels too high!

I couldn't wait for this to hit the big screen but to my disappointment, the film wasn't half as good as i had expected. After seeing the first i didn't know when the super subs dream was going to end, but at Real Madrid with superstars surrounding him, i thought i was in for a treat. But to my mistake, the storyline steers of course of the footballing world bringing in a twist of family life which was almost suddenly killed of by the stress of which football brings. Every little boy's dream is to play football at a professional level but this film gives us an inside view as to what goes on off the pitch and in my opinion doesn't have enough twists in the story. As i'm a football fanatic i loved the matches they played and the 3-2 comeback in the Champions League final was amazing but so predictable. Overall i feel the film was a failure but is still worth watching so that there is some hope that GOAL III can impress and revive the disappointment of GOAL II. Daniel Bryson

a REAL football movie

This movie is finally coming out it the US!!!!! I have been waiting for this movie forever. The first Goal movie was one of my favorite movies of all time. I love football(soccer) and after having to watch so many baseball movies I am happy to finally have a movie series about the sport that I like and play. It really is an inspiring story about believing in yourself and triumphing over adversity. The characters are developed nicely and the love story is even handled in a very good way and does not feel tacked on like it does in so many other sports movies. Santiago comes from Los Angeles to Newcastle and then plays at the world famous Real Madrid. My favorite player David Beckham is in this movie too. We were not lucky enough for "Zidane a 21st Century portrait" to come out in the US so this is your only chance to see Zidane in film. Come on and support proper football in the US and see this movie!!!

Absolute Rubbish

This is the worst film I've ever seen. I've never seen a less believable storyline. In the first film Santiago was part of a poor Mexican immigrant family, yet by the end of the film he's miraculously playing premier league football. Then in the 2nd film it gets even less believable. He suddenly finds himself playing for Real Madrid and winning the champions league. So to get this straight, in what's meant to be little over a year he goes from being an immigrant with hardly any cash, to champions league winner. Also, this film is obviously a marketing tool for David Beckham (as if he needs help becoming even more famous.) Beckham has already proved that he shouldn't ever speak in public, now he's proved that he can't act.If you are a real football fan, don't go anywhere near this film.

Could have been directed better

I've watched both the goal movies and what i feel is that the music doesn't give that much support to the screenplay... the music could've been a little more wild and loud... also everything becomes predictable very long before it happens... a slightly better focus could've been given to the pace of the movie....The dialogue part should've definitely been improved especially the part where santi's gf cries... the dialogue lacks a little logic.... also his little brother driving off on the lamborghini part... he is from a small poor neighbourhood and he drives a car.. i don't buy it... and he shows his middle finger to his bro... why would he do that??

This is not a film...it is a Beckham PR Tool.

I thought the first one was "likeable" ish coz everyone likes a poor kid getting a lucky break story etc.... but now he has his lucky break I suspected it would be harder to forget the cheesy wooden acting and highly predictable story lines. I was right.I felt like the story just took on too much. There were so many story lines going on but all of them were receiving very little attention to detail. The one thing that you remember from this film is that David Beckham was in it. I suspect that the brand Beckham team had invested into it coz Davey Boy was in every other clip (in name or in person). The whole thing got me suspecting that the film was just made to raise his profile.Well after a rushed, and unbelievable, start the film wasted no time in rolling out all the predictable story lines that were expected. Nothing new and no new twists. The soundtrack was OK but the film was relying on it for success. The filming was OK but no improvements on the last one. The main actor was still very wooden and the supporting cast...well they added very little indeed.Overall a below average film with a very lazy and pointless storyline that was hoping good music would get it success. It didn't (in my eyes). I wont comment too much on the ending but it was one of those where you were left thinking that they had run out of time and ideas after messing around with nonsense for the majority of the film.I do NOT recommend this film. Pity but I suspected I wouldn't.

Big step back

I loved the first Goal!. I found it to be the best football movie since Victory, and was glad to know that it would be followed by 2 sequels that will take our Mexican Pele to Real Madrid to play Champion's league final and then to the world cup. Sorry to say,or write, and sorry for myself, this one is a step back,a big one.The only part that isn't worse in this one is Alessandro Nivola, the guy knows what he is doing and does it good. For everything else...hmmm.. First-the script is rather clumsy, making our "hero" deal with such problems as meeting his mother that left him when he was a kid, dealing with a jealous girlfriend,an injury, loss of a friend and an agent....and in a mix of all this he does actually play for Real Madrid and meets Becks,Raul,Roberto Carlos....almost like that isn't the most important thing here and the reason why me and lot of other people want to see this in a first place. The chosen director wasn't the happiest choice because the guy has serious problems with pacing and working with actors like he has already showed in his debut, the 2005 remake of Hause of Wax.I saw that a third Goal! will be directed by Michael Apted and that is a good news,at least I hope so. Well it's not all bad, after all there are so few football movies these days(unlike boxing or American football)that I cherish even a flawed one like this and will definitely check out the third Goal! once it's out.
