Not very entertaining
posted on 18 Aug 2009This movie did not impress me. The acting was not exactly great, and I found it difficult to care at all about any of the characters. It was also full of cheesy and pointless effects. Nevertheless, despite all of its faults, it was better than the other 1995 cyberthriller, "The Net".
Good Movie with problems
posted on 13 Aug 2009The movie it self was good. while its technical information was flawed its plot was intriguing. Its soundtrack is especially good. It was well acted except for the part of the "evil coporate hacker" which was just cheesy. They couldve done sooo much more with this movie but still its good, gripping and keeps you watching if your into computers.
Great movie about computer hacking.
posted on 09 Aug 2009This movie is about computer hackers. There is a big company and its security director created a virus. An inexperienced hacker hacks into the system but leaves a trace and is caught. The director blames him for the virus and he is closely watched. Now everyone he gives the disk to gets busted.Especially Dade Murphy who was an expert hacker at a young age but was also caught at a young age. So the police and FBI check him out first but there is no trace of the disk they need. Then the security director wants him to help and he refuses. Then he helps his friends and they get the bad guy. This is my favorite movies of all times. It has a lot of suspense. I recommend this to anyone interested with computers and hacking. This one is just an all around good movie. It even has a bit of romance in there too. I think it is the best movie I've ever seen on computers.
Best movie ever in it's type
posted on 03 Aug 2009I have watched this movie for several (10 or something) times now and i still enjoy it. The hacking isn't realistic, but the effects do great justice to the movie.
The movie is all about how hard it is to be a hacker trying to do good things.
If you haven't watched this movie yet, and you like computers, but not too much so that you mind every detail (yeah a folder listing is in 3d in the movie) then this movie is GREAT for you.10/10 is the rating i gave it, just because the movie rocks
Bad, Worse, Hackers
posted on 03 Aug 2009Hackers is a horror flick for everybody, that knows at least a little bit about computers. Young people, bursting with sex appeal are living almost underground and preaching rebel computer philosophy... They are hacking with gigabit connection, so that the nice animations of a broken fire walls and virtual rooms with databases and folders can load on their screens for the sake of the public. They use a laptops to hack from the top of the buildings, from the roofs, from the subways - because the laptop is such a powerful tool (in movies hackers almost always use laptops) - this device is meant to display "ACCESS GRANTED"! And the fight between the automated machines that change movies in the TV station office? Give me a freaking break! I rate this movie 2 for some shocking stupidity and frightening inadequacy.P.S. If you don't know anything about the way internet and computers work - it's a nice teen crime/comedy - 4.5/10
second time round:)
posted on 29 Jul 2009watched hackers in 1995, on laserdisc(remember those things?:) was an impressionable 12yearold, so go figure... i loved it!
finally got my hands on the dvd recently, and yeah... i know its totally NOT plausible, dont understand how there could have been actual hacker consultants in the making of the movie (see credits) what were they thinking???? yet... i still love it!:)
great soundtrack, johnny and angelina, excellent supporting acts (yes even the fool of a baddie), costume, hair and makeup (hilarious), and did i mention johnny and angelina??? this ones a keeper, in memory of the technological naivety of the 90's... and we thought we were so smart:)
scenes i loved to laugh at then- crash and burn's competition (deceased, rigour mortis...)
scenes i laugh at now- burn's machine at home (phreak: wow, 218kpbs, man!!!)
hackers of the world, unite!:D
Utter techno junk
posted on 19 Jul 2009I would have to rate this heap of junk along the same lines as The Omega Code, which was marginally worse than this - which is not saying much for Hackers. The plot was just so over the top and had no suspense that I lost interest halfway through and was wishing it would end. It was agony watching this at the cinemas. I couldnt care less about any of the characters. For a good computer film, Anti-Trust is just 100 times better. Much more realistic and exciting. Give this one the flick and bury it for good.
off technically, but otherwise good
posted on 02 Jul 2009While hackers offers little to anyone who is looking for technical accuracy (TRON was even more realistic), it is a very entertaining film. While Jonny Lee Miller's performance in Trainspotting was beyond brilliant, his character in Hackers seemed 2-dimentional. The rest of the cast, however, more than makes up for his shortcomings.
forgetable but acceptable entertainment
posted on 29 Jun 2009This film is unlikely to make anyone's top 10 movies of all time but it is worth 2 hrs of your time. Dont expect to get taken anywhere by this film , it is pure entertainment in the hollywood 21st century style. It's safe for kids and grandparents, though there were some suggestions of cross dressing and some tongue kissing. The best part of the film was Angelina Jolie, I have never taken much notice of her before nor been terribly impressed, but she really sizzles in this one. Maybe its the short hair and teenage dress, maybe its my middle aged longing, whichever - she sure looks hot (and acts ok too). To sum up, there is no drug taking and the baddy gets it in the end, boy gets girl and everyone goes home happy (except the baddy who will presumably spend his remaining days being poked by hot forks when he least expects it).
MESS WITH THE BEST DIE LIKE THE REST
posted on 23 Jun 2009Hackers is a (in my opion) a realistic if not true telling of how a hacker would live, and how the would operate in their own groups. the large number of experts, all with their own area's of expertise, and the one stupid kid who gets the rest in trouble, who, by the way, has a thing for his Apple. all in all, i think this is one of the best movie about computers and hackers ive ever seen.
2nd Best movie ever (under Citizen Cane)
posted on 20 Jun 2009This is the best movie ever made. I learned most my hacking skills from watching it. Zero Cool is my idol. The depicions of hacking are totally correct in every way and are still very relavent today. If you want to start hacking this MUST be your first step. You also get to see Angalina Jolie's [assets]. If you would like to see the other [assets], I suggest watching GIA also a fine movie.
A good B-grade movie
posted on 11 Jun 2009I first saw this movie right after it came out, and I thought it was the stupidest and most pathetic thing I'd ever seen. However, having heard about it over and over, I decided to try it again last night, and I completely changed my point of view. Granted, it is corny and hokey, and not very credible, but it's great fun.
To enjoy this movie, you have to be able to willingly suspend your disbelief. You have to pretend that the garbage files of computers actually look like a roller coaster ride, or that the security officer of some major corporation could be such a laughingly evil and stereotypical bad guy. And you have to believe that this bad guy would actually go to such great length to screw with a couple kids. (I know, I know, they accounted for that in the plot, but really....)
But if you get past that, it is really very entertaining - really! The relationship between the kids is fun and believable, and few things are as natural as Angelina Jolie's acting. There are some great lines, too: "I hope you don't screw like you type," "Looks like the pool on the roof sprung a leak," "Spandex is a privilege, not a right!" as well as some that were not meant to be funny: "Woah, a 28.8 speed modem!" "...and they're blaming it all on the hackers" (perhaps the only line Angelina Jolie has ever uttered that came across as melodramatic.) It's great to see Matthew Lillard in his pre-Scream days, he's just as funny as ever. And if nothing else, it's worth watching for the youthful beauty of the costars Jonny Lee Miller and Angelina Jolie.
Basically, it's a B-level movie. It doesn't try to be anything else, so enjoy it for what it is. The story is fake, yeah, but very fun to watch. In all, it's a funny and interesting tour of exaggerated hacker culture and their exploits. I recommend it for a good laugh with a few friends.
A cool movie
posted on 07 Jun 2009Hackers was a very interesting movie. The soundtrack was excellent, the plot was interesting, and the casting was done wonderfully. Although this movie may not be technically accurate in the ways of hacking, it is still intriguing to observe Dade Murphy's and Kate Libby's relationship with each other. I recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in computers.
Hit me !
posted on 04 Jun 2009This is absolutely one of the best movies I've ever seen. The combination of camera work and the sound(tracks) are really totally magnificent. Johnny Lee Miller is doing almost better than he did in Trainspotting (Sick Boy). Iain Softley (director) is showing one of his best ideas ever.

Hackers (1995)
posted on 19 Aug 2009This is a movie that you would, I believe call fun and enjoyable. Not a serious film by any consideration it is fluff really, but you see Angelina Jolie in it which is always a treat. One of the best scenes for me was harassing the Secret Service agent with their computer wizardry. It really is something.
