Truly a classic.

That hoser guy doesn't know what he's talking about. First of all, There ARE places where bodegas exist and there are weed delivery services.. like uh.. NEW YORK. and my hometown DC!Second of all, stoner movies are NEVER supposed to win any plot awards. Its just stupid comedy. Something to get high to and laugh your ass off. You honestly think Cheech and Chong movies had any good plots? I really wish people would stop over analyzing stoner movies and just get high and enjoy them. What I'm upset about is that I haven't heard any word of a sequel, like "Fully Baked" or something. There definitely should be. This movie.. totally a classic stoner movie!!

hilarious, stupid, and fun

On his way back from a "munchie" run, Kenny (Harland Williams) makes the mistake of feeding a massive amount of junk food to a tired looking, diabetic NYPD horse, which drops dead soon after it consumes the food. Kenny goes to jail and relies on his totally stoned roommates (Dave Chapelle, Guillermo Diaz, Jim Breuer) to devise a way to raise the $100,000 bail. Their solution? Sell marijuana stolen from a government research lab. "Half Baked" I think the title speaks for itself this was funny yet stupid everything you want in a comedy. Also check out the famous Bob Saget's small role as the coke addict it is hilarious.

Quite the surprise!

I was expecting this movie to suck, but I ended up laughing quite a bit.
Dave Chappelle was funny, Jim Breuer was better than I expected, and Guillermo Diaz, a guy I never heard of until I saw this movie, had the best lines and seemed to be channeling Cheech in some scenes. Funny cameos, especially Jon Stewart. All of the scenes with the dog were hilarious! A passibly funny guilty pleasure- either **1/2 or *** out of ****.

I Loved Half Baked!

Ok I just hafta say after watching Half Baked 6 times its still the best! Like i said i loved the movie! My favorite charicter has to be Scarface! I like the part at Killers funrial (killer is the dog scarface got) when Brian says a story about Killer! and i like when scarface gose up to the guy on the couch (thats his name too!) saying did u kill my dog yo? he says no, then scarface says: I dont know why but i belive him! Well thats all im saying cuse you should see the movie and i bet u will laugh so hard u start crying! Hope you enjoy the movie has much as me!

So stupid it's hilarious

I think in order to watch this movie you have to be a huge fan of silly comedies. You're favorites must include Caddyshack, Airplane, and any of the Naked Gun movies. You gotta understand, this movie was SUPPOSED to be stupid. This was not looking for Oscar nominations. I think it is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. You have to watch it a couple of times to catch all the hidden humor. All in all, a very funny movie.

Mostly hilarious

The biggest problem with this film is the narrative revolving around Chappelle and the female love interest. I don't mean to sound malicious, but the actress can't act... at all. Enough that I consider her wholly unattractive, and enough that, sadly, it brings down Half Baked quite a bit 'cause there is just too much god forsaken time devoted to her.

The rest of the movie is a riot. All four of these guys are hugely entertaining and funny. Their characters are exaggerated stereotypes but they all hit them perfectly. When Breuer starts rattling off all the food he wants his roomate Harland Williams to get after they've all hit billy bong thorton, and it pans to Guillermo Díaz blankly staring at nothing, smiling... it reminds one of the idiotic (but joyful) state of being high (and this is certainly not the only state the good plant is able to produce). People might pass off the acting in this movie but I really find it to be subtle and really nuanced... All four of them are excellent; I don't think one actor rises above the others. From what I can tell it looks like there was a lot of smoking on the set, and really I think that's one of the reasons the film comes across as authentic... it IS a half-baked, lazy movie that was made for their own enjoyment and that's where I find it to be so endearing... It IS fun.

The film isn't neccessarily pro-marijuana in that its characters are all pretty much slackers and not particularly admirable... Most of the time they are simply moronic. But simultaneously they are totally charming and loveable, and I think personally this gives the film a sort of "harmless" attitude towards the drug. Anyway though I really don't think politics were on the minds of any of these guys when filming, and that's why I can rewatch the damn thing over and over.

I am tempted to drop the score one but I like the film too much. The temptation comes from the copout ending... A movie this stonerfied shouldn't have the main character ditching the drug for a pathetic love interest as occurs at the end. And in Chappelle's transition to sobriety there are a few moments that kinda irked me, one which follows Breuer's uproarious story about Killer the dog. "I didn't think I could say this, but you guys smoke entirely too much refer.".. says Chappelle. Dunno -- rubbed me the wrong way.


But ANY WAY... this is some second-hand smoke that actually intoxicates and usually makes me laugh like a little child for two hours.

love this movie so much. david chappelle did a wonderful job of doing what he does best, getting stoned and making people laugh. jim bruer was about the funniest character in this though. each dude has the most memorable quotes of any movie i have ever seen which is quite an accomplishment, especially for a stoner flick. even the guy on the couch did a wonderful job of doing nothing. where else are you gonna have a character in a movie where all he does is sleep on the couch, barely making an effort to even smoke weed. well i don't do drugs though, just weed. me and my buddies used to take roles in this movie and recite all the lines. well, i don't know how many times i seen it, but i still haven't gotten tired of it because it is an innocent happy stoner effort from beginning to end.

Don't be so anal people come on...

From what I see a lot of people saying here, people think humor has to be really sophisticated, like some Dudley Moore movie or something...well ummm no, this movie is funnier than any of Mr. Moore's movies or Woody Allen's movies...of course that's not saying much since NEITHER of them is funny...this movie does a BRILLIANT job of what it sets out to do...and that's just appeal to the part of our brain that doesn't wanna have to think out jokes, doesn't want to have to think at all...is the plot kinda scarce?? Well heck yeah it is, there hardly is one...BUT who can forget the part Jon Stewart (a small BUT funny one) has..who could forget Bob Saget in there...or the parts about Kenny almost getting it up the rear?? Come on people, those are funny...melodramas are made about drug addicts all the time...this is about druggies, only funny..which would you rather watch?? I'll take this.

Funniest movie EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

if you check out any professional reviewing place such as rottentomatoes.com then you know they all the say the same thing, this movie sucks. Only one group of people can fully enjoy this movie, you know who you are, STONERS. I think all stoners can agree that the best part of the movie was when the lady hands thurgood a whole POUNDDDDD of weed. I couldnt stop laughing and gigglying and fantasizing, you know you did.

IF you don't smoke theres very little chance of oyu enjoying this film, well maybe some, but this movie was made for stoners and by stoners.

This movie is our anthem to weed. every scene we can relate to. Theres always the really messed up kid that never shuts up, which is always me hahaha, and then theres the smart guy who tells everyone what is smart and not smart.

i said it before and i'll say it again, if you dont smoke you really can understand this movie at all.

Are u people(or some of u) even watching movies?! This was a great movie! And to the people (I won't name names, but u know who u are) who said Jim Breuer is a bad actor. I am his biggest fan in the entire world and if u think u can beat me i'd really like to see u try. He was hilarious in this movie and if it was made just to pay tribute to Jim's "stoned" look, well you're wrong. If that was true he would have had the main role. So before u mess with such talented actors, why don't u look at the work first.

Great movie!! The 3 stars is NOT a reflection of the movie itself ... get it!

I love this movie and had an old VHS of it, so I wanted it on DVD. The picture quality is great for the movie. The only issue I have is that the extras, deleted scenes, etc., look HORRIBLE. Very grainy and fuzzy. Again, the movie itself looks great when I play it, but the extra stuff looks like someone used a broken video camera from the 60's to shoot it. Don't know why it's like that. But I still love this movie and glad I have it on DVD.

Give stoner movies a break!

Over the past few hours, i've searched the database and found about 10 different stoner flicks and all of them were trashed by the commentators! Even dazed and confused and the stoned age were panned! how so? because they have no plot? this movie actually has plot, and they still arent satisfied. Its people who dont do marijuana or drink or whatever that dont get these movies...any way...4 guys who live together drink, smoke and be merry every day of their lives, till one day one of them accidentally kills a diabetic police horse (yes, diabetic). The other 3 are posed with a dilemma and try to figure out a way to spring their friend. Like most movies within the past 5-6 years of this magnatude, it has a lot of goofy things that only those of the stoner race or formers can really truly enjoy. That is not saying that everyone else cannot. The thing i found nice about this movie is that even if you werent associated at all with drugs, it made it nice and easy to understand the effects. (Even more blunt than Joe's Big Eyeball in the Stoned Age). All i can say is...lay off the stoner movies....they're goofy cuz theyre SUPPOSED TO BE! - "Two Green Thumbs Up!" Jay & Joe

They Killed Killer B!

If you want a funny stoner movie hands down this is it. Right up there with "Up in Smokes" Dave Chappelle will have you on the ground laughing.

"Half Baked" is probably the best example of a movie that you sit around in your underwear and watch. A stupid - and I assume deliberately stupid - attempt at re-creating the spirit of Cheech and Chong, they just do any ridiculous thing that they want as three pothead friends (Dave Chappelle, Jim Breuer, Guillermo Diaz) try to raise money to bail a fellow stoner (Harland Williams) out of jail. There are some funny scenes, namely the hallucinations, but I recommend just sticking with Cheech and Chong. Pretty worthless, unless you're willing to accept something totally silly. Featuring appearances by Jon Stewart, Willie Nelson, Clarence Williams III and Tommy Chong.

An opinion from the minority

Okay, okay . . . so everyone who's seen this film so far has hated it, lashed out at it, berated it, etc. I happened to like it, and I am not a joint-smoking hippie wannabe.The plot was hilarious! Some critics said it "made no sense", but just like a good Cheech-n-Chong flick, it's not SUPPOSED to. It's out-there, non -believable, moronic situation comedy. This is exactly what daily life is like for pot smokers. Duh.If you want a feel-good comedy, watch something else! You will not like this film if you are close-minded! But if you want to just sit back, put your thinking cap on the shelf, and just laugh your head off at four stupid people (I'm sure you'll recognize the characters in someone you know), then go get this film. You won't be disappointed.This movie promises to be a cult classic once people get past the "I'd die of embarrassment if anyone knew I liked this" attitude. I saw it with friends, and everyone loved it. We're not exactly boozers here, but artistic, intelligent critics. It was fun to watch. See for yourself.

Dave Chappelle is a Comic Genius

This is a movie about four guys: Chappelle, Scarface, Brian and Kenny. When Kenny goes out to buy 4 stoners worth of munchie food, instead of going home he gives it to a diabetic horse (buttercup). He kills the horse and gets arrested. Now the others are making a fund raiser by selling weed which Chappelle steals from his work being a "Master of the Castodial Artts" (or a janitor if you want to be a d*** about it). They raise the money for Kenny's bail and try to get him out before Nasty Nate gets a piece of him from behind.

This movie leaves me laughing in tears every time I watch it.


Go buy it.
