On August 17th, are you ready for the start of something new?
They're facing their biggest challenge yet.......summer jobs
The Wildcats are back. They start off getting out of school, where Shar Pay makes sure Troy has job at her country club. Troy then in returns gets everyone else a job at the country club too. Gabrielle is the new lifeguard, while Troy, Chad, and the others work in the kitchen. At the country club there is a talent show, which Sharpay and Ryan win every year. Kelsie had written a song for Troy and Gabrielle to sing at the talent show, which later on Sharpay takes (at a faster tempo) for her and Troy to sing at the talent show. Sharpay plots to take Troy away from Gabrielle,by getting him a better job than the rest of the Wildcats. Troy starts changing, all for a "scholarship", starting to act like a jerk, which results in Gabrielle breaking up with Troy, saying she doesn't belong there. After Troy loses all his friends, because he began acting like a jerk and had found out that Sharpay had made it where no Junior Staffers can perform in the talent show, he decides to do something about it, and asks for his old job back with the rest of his friends and quits the talent show leaving Sharpay with nothing, since she had ditched her brother to perform with Troy. She then goes back to Ryan, who had been working with the Junior Staffers on an act, who then leaves her saying she always wanted the spotlight, now she has it. Troy ends up doing the talent show, thinking that he would be performing with Sharpay. He learns a new song within a matter of minutes.

What those musical kids do in the summer!
posted on 28 Aug 2009This is definitely a movie for the younger crowd, especially the younger girls. I wanted to see it mainly for Ms Hudgens, whose photos of her nude in her bedroom circulated quite widely on the internet over the past few months. She is a cutie, and can sing well, but mostly uses that silly 'nasal' style of singing that so many young girls use nowadays. She definitely would not make it to Hollywood on American Idol if she competed as an unknown.High School Musical contained the story of how Troy and Gabriella met, and found out that they could sing and sound good together. 'Musical 2' begins at school, right before classes let out for the summer. As in the first movie, sly and bold Sharpay is out to get Troy for herself, no matter what it takes. So she uses her rich family influence to get Troy a very nice summer job at a golfing resort in New Mexico, not too far from home. But Troy puts conditions, which he can since Sharpay tells the manager to do whatever it takes to get Troy. They must also hire a bunch of his high school friends, including Gabriella.Zac Efron is of course back as Troy Bolton, star basketball player who apparently knows his way around the links pretty well. Cute Vanessa Anne Hudgens (actually cuter with clothes on) is back as Gabriella Montez. Ashley Tisdale is back as the very annoying Sharpay Evans. And Lucas Grabeel is back as her brother Ryan Evans. The movie is about Sharpay constantly trying to block out Gabriella so she can get Troy for herself. And Troy's being romanced by scouts who want him to play college basketball, sometimes not leaving enough time for his friends. There are quite a large number of musical singing and dancing numbers, including one during a baseball game. In the end everyone becomes friends, because it is a Disney movie.
Don't compare just enjoy
posted on 24 Aug 2009the only thing that bothered me a little was that not all of the singing scenes fitted in with the plot. other then that I am completely thrilled.the story is similar as in the first movie just the other way round. instead of loosing yourself in your friends you loose your friends searching for yourself. it still has this good ol'Disney moral at the end but it is pleasantly subtle.it is fun - some lines are hilarious - especially from Ryan and one of the funniest scene is definitely Sharpays & Troys rehearsal.as for the acting - aside from Zac, Corbin, Ashley and Lucas, they are mostly supporting, which is working fine for Kelsi or Jason or Zeke but not so much for Gabriellas character. Zacs dancing reminds me a little of Kevin Bacon in Footloose - mostly in his solo, but it is not a bad thing. and this role is yet another proof of his acting skills. Ashely is perfect in her role as drama queen but yet again Lucas stole them all the show. I totally enjoyed the scenes with Troy & Gabriella. they were so natural.this movie has some awesome dancing sequences but the best one is the Fabulous bit. and the music is even better then in the first movie. the final song is not as climaxing as should be but fits with the story nicely. IMHO You are the music in me is way catchier. Vanessa evens the score for a lack of character to play by snatching the best song - yet again. and she and Zac harmonize wonderfully - visually as much as musically. we even get to hear the rest of the gang sing which is a plus point. this movie is different then the first one but it has all what made its predecessor so memorable. great music, simple story, beautiful cast and a heart. Disney still has it. P.S. check out Chads t-shirts - they are hilarious.
What happened?
posted on 16 Aug 2009I was one of the original HSM fans who was counting down the days til High School Musical 2. The first song played, "What time is it?", caught my eye and I immediately loved the song, and was 100 percent positive that the rest of the movie was awesome!!! Although the songs were catchy, most of the music didn't have the same cuteness that was in the original. Fabulous by Ashlee Tisdale, who I absolutely love, was one of my favorites, but Zac Efron's song disappointed me. From seeing Hairspray and then High School Musical 2, it was a huge difference. Its like he had to dumb down his talent for Disney. Also, the movie had centered around Zac Efron and Ashley Tisdale, and failed to recognize that there were other characters we would like to learn about. What about Corbin Bleu's character. Even Vanessa Hudgens was cast in the shadows. But on the whole, the songs didn't offer the same quality as the first one. It wasn't a musical, it was watching MTV watching music video after music video. It was annoying!!!! After watching this, I am thoroughly disappointed with HSM 2. It wasn't nearly as good as everyone expected it to be, and when I first saw the original, the movie was all that I could think of. The songs stuck in my head, but these ones were hard to understand because everyone who was singing, there voice was electronicized. (I'm not sure if thats a word!)
better than the original
posted on 02 Aug 2009i just caught the Australian premiere of high school musical 2 on the Disney channel. and i loved it. where to begin. i loved the new songs especially "all for one" and "gota go my own way". the new dancing routines look really great, and i loved the routine for "fabulous". secondly all the characters are given the chance to grown and become more 3 dimensional especially ryan as he becomes more of his own person and less of sharpay's lap dog. i loved the chemistry between zac and vanessa, as there characters grown and deal with more complex issues such as dealing with the loss of yourself, and moving on from what you know, and the acting from the rest of the cast was great, and ashley plays the villain really well. i had been waiting for this for over a year and now i can't wait till the DVD is released.
Hasn't Gotten Any Better Than The First
posted on 21 Jul 2009Following up from my previous review on High School Musical (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475293/usercomments-778), I'm continuing with the next installment in the "Trilogy of Terror 3". It's High School Musical 2. However, this title is entirely misleading, as it has nothing to do with a high school musical at all. In fact, it's not even set in a high school. The story (which is so non-existent, it basically isn't a story) is that it's summer vacation, and Troy and Gabriella have gotten jobs at a country club in Colorado. For whatever reason, the entire school seems to have gone to this exact same country club, and again for whatever reason, they continue to work at this club though they make it evident they aren't getting any pay. Yeah, good idea; waste your summer vacation working a boring job getting no pay. As I said, non-existent storyline. So what is this movie in general? Well, it's a rip-off of the first. Nothing is different. It's the same lip-synced songs, the same moronic actors, the same stupid storyline, and the same rubbish as before. This is one of those sequels that doesn't accomplish much if anything that its predecessor didn't manage to accomplish, and of course, it hasn't gotten any better than the first.
Now with added fan-service....and less sense or believability
posted on 21 Jul 2009I was a big fan of the first High School Musical. It wasn't the best thing in the world, but the music was, if nothing else, fun and so was the movie.I give Disney points for the music. I know many didn't like the music in this installment at all, but I personally found it better than the first. However, the music is different this time around- more to my taste and less to others. It all depends on your taste in music. The movie itself- Disney tried far too hard. I think I got that idea when I saw Sharpay's musical number with the pink piano in the swimming pool. Any character development at all (which lets face it, wasn't a lot) that was made in the first movie was completely undermined. Sharpay wasn't an airhead, she was just self-centered. She's both in this movie. Gabriella was a sweet, optimistic, intelligent girl. They made her bubbly beyond reason. The only person that really had any real character development was Ryan. I give them points for the character development of Ryan. The story gave a whole new meaning to the word cliché. And there were several moments that the story just doesn't make sense at all. When or why did Gabriella decide to go back to Troy? We don't know! We don't see her or hear from her at all between her little "goodbye" number and the talent show! We're just left to assume that she found out that Troy's made this overnight (literally) change from super-jerk to team player again. It makes no cinematic sense. And neither did the placing of most songs. Instead of "I think I hear a song coming on", the audiences should have been thinking. "Where the heck did THAT song come from?" I'm not even going to elaborate on how Troy's "angst on a golf course" song and 'dance' looked like an over-dramatic bad music video of nothing but drama poses. And we didn't need another movie to watch Ashley Tisdale dance around in her bathing suits/Paris Hilton-esquire dresses and to watch Zac Efron take off his shirt. Yay for added fan-service? (please note the heavy sarcasm). The title "High School Musical" makes no sense when applied to this movie. This movie is not about high school. Nor is it about a musical. It's a mishmash of over-the-top acting interrupted by random songs. Long story short. The music was better. The movie was FAR worse.
Good but could be better
posted on 15 Jul 2009OK. Now I went into this movie thinking that it would be as good as the first movie. However I was disappointed by the story lines. The fact that after everything Troy did that Gabriella would still like him was just stupid. I mean there was chemistry between Ryan and Gabriella. They were both discarded by those they hung out with and Gabriella was kind to him. He helped the others. That to me is a romantic story. The writers need to write about how potential relationships fall apart and this causes others to form. Zac Efron was good but in the end his character wasn't really a good person. He was more lucky than anything else. The only thing that stopped the film from being mediocre was the musical numbers and the supporting cast. The songs were catchy and the settings for them was clever. The dance routines were well choreographed and tied in with the characters. Corbin Bleu was excellent as the funny Chad and Ashley Tisdale was good as Sharpay. I also liked the fact that a different character got a solo song. Zac Efron was a good choice for the solo song and the settings were good too. Overall a good movie but it isn't as good a sequel as people might have been expecting.
Disappointing
posted on 15 Jul 2009I was very excited to see this movie, but was quite disappointed. The singing was not natural and sounded over-worked. You could hear echos and other studio "fixes" in almost all of the musical numbers which led to everything sounding fake. They are supposed to be kids singing, not music stars. The choreography was way over the top as well. Troy's number in black was like they were trying too hard to recreate Grease. That was classic John Travolta, no one dances like that now! They should have used more modern dance steps, more natural voices. This was too much Troy and Sharpey, not enough of the rest of the cast.Still a good movie, just way overdone. The first one was more natural, I hope they return to the first for inspiration for the third one.
Simply Wonderful. They Nailed It Again.
posted on 15 Jul 2009I thought it was just fabulous. I was grinning the whole time (except for during Gotta Go My Own Way when I got a little teary-eyed. I blame the fabulous chemistry that is Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens. Even breaking up in a movie they are just amazing). I will admit it wasn't perfect. It didn't seem to flow quite as smoothly as the first - I attribute that to what seems to be deleted scenes - but it was only slightly so it deserves a nine out of ten stars. Some have said it lacks the same charm as the first. I say that's a good thing. It has it's own charm which is what you'd hope for in a sequel. It means they didn't just make the same movie over again. Being the romantic I am, I loved that they stepped it up in this one.And as far as friends go, I was totally ecstatic the way the wildcats brought Ryan in. I felt so bad for him with the way Sharpay treated him. He's just such a great character with so much potential if he's only allowed to show what a great guy he is. And he got that chance in this one. I loved it as much as the first and I've seen it a few times already. I heard a rumor that an extended version will come out on DVD in December. Maybe those added scenes will help smooth it out.My only other complaint (and this has nothing to do with the movie itself) was because of my stupid cable that kept going wiggy. Rawr. The dances. The music. The story. I loved it all and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet, touching, lesson teaching story that succeeds without all the unnecessary stuff you find in most movies today.
I think Disney tried too hard.
posted on 15 Jul 2009HSM 1 was really good. I guess they didn't expect it to be such a such a success and didn't really mind that much how it turned out. That's why it all went wrong with HSM 2, Disney tried so hard not to make it the exact same things as the first movie, that they made it in too something worse. Don't get me wrong though, it was a good thing that they didn't make it in to the same thing, but the songs were bad and it just doesn't seem to live up to the first movie. So here's my opinion; I'm going to tell you the good things about the movie, and I'm going to tell you exactly what's wrong with it.Let's start with the characters: Sharpay Evans turned into a squeaky voiced, annoying girl. Her crush on Troy was a good thing for the movie, though. And in the end, she turned out pretty nice. Troy Bolton was selfish and didn't care much for his friends during the movie. Gabriella Montez was OK, but way better in HSM.next...The idea of Summer was nice, and good for a change... but the talent contest thing was exactly the same thing as the musical at East High. Also, I love the fact that they focused more on Ryan Evans, who has to take a lot of crap from his sister Sharpay. He was very deserving of the award, and I'm glad his sister finally realized that her brother works way harder than she does. So, I'm glad I watched HSM 2, for Ryan's sake. But, HSM 2 will never live up to HSM, and I doubt there will be an HSM 3. High School Musical was a movie meant to have no sequel. It ended great, and Disney should have kept it at that. I'm sorry to say this, but I find HSM 2 a very bad movie and by all means do not watch it... unless you care for Ryan Evans, who's clearly more talented then all of East High.
Great! Sharpay made the whole movie!
posted on 09 Jul 2009I thought this was great, and better than the first one. I have to say, Ashley Tisdale done some brilliant acting as Sharpay, she made the whole movie, I loved how she said her lines in such an evil tone and how she made out that her character was a spoilt, attention seeker. I loved everything about this movie, it was just great....however, there was one musical number that I though really let it down.***spoler starts here****...Bet on it, what was that all about?!?! It's a good song but it's just ruined on how they presented it in the movie, Zac Efron (Troy Bolton) just goes around doing some extra cheesy dance moves on a golf course, and thats the whole song. What! All the other musical numbers (that wearn't 'romantic duets') had either a great dance routine to go with it or something eye catching like Sharpay's Version of You are the music in me (which i have to say made me smile and had to be, in my opinion, one of the best songs in the whole movie) But with Bet On It, it looked like the whole dance (if you can call it a dance) was made up on the spot. ...and the song it's self was pretty pointless from how they edited it. It came in just after Troy saw a letter saying no staff are allowed to be in the talent show, now tell me how that exact point will make you realise you need to change and not the point where you lost your friends and girlfriend to selfishness. I would have given the movie 10 out of 10 if it wasn't for this one musical number.I have to say, the editing was a bit naff, I'm not sure if it was the edditing or just lack of preperation for each shot e.g, in everyday, one second Troy's jacket is flying from wind, and in the next shot there is no wind and it's perfectly calm. And in the scene where Troy and Gabriella kiss, the final time they kiss when the sprinklers are on and then they hug, it switches to there friends dancing around and then back to troy and Gabriella hugging, and it's obvious that some of the shot they just showed of them cuddling was repeated because they do it in the exact same way....AND if you are a Miley Cyrus fan and are looking forward to her being in the movie, don't, there's like one 4 second scene of her dancing in the final All For One scene and that's it, that's what they call a 'special appearance from her in the movie'.However, excluding that, it was overall a great film, great acting by everyone (especially Ashley tisdale) My favourite musical numbers were Work this out - loved it, loved how in the middle they made it so it was like they were making all the music from using kitchen appliances and so on. You are the music in me (Reprise) - It was funny, Ashley just pulled Zac along everywhere through the whole musical number. Everyday - Loved this duet between Troy and Gabriella, but Zac (troy) almost always forgot to put the microphone to his mouth but yet his voice was coming out perfectly, even when the microphone was by his waste. I loved the end bit though, how they all came together and formed that circle. All For One - Loved the dancing in itPlease note, i'm not saying Zac Efron didn't act well in this movie I just meant that one musical number that he just so happened to be in was stupid, in fact, I thought he acted extremely well, everyone did, however, Vanessa did seem a little bit too innocent in the movie.I still recommend you see it though.
marginally better than the first try
posted on 07 Jul 2009A slightly better plot than that of the original film, but in most ways as pitiful a window into the Disney folks' pandering to a retrograde swath of the downward-spiraling American culture as was the first film. While one of the mildly sexual heterosexual couples manages a few chaste kisses at the end of the film (certainly not of the tongue-involved kisses that might be more expected of contemporary teens), in all other ways the kids portrayed are ridiculously chaste and clean living.Compare this with the films of the FAME genre and(hopefully) you'll see how far we've failed to come.
This Movie Was Great
posted on 07 Jul 2009Well, first off I want to start by saying I loved HSM2! I love Ashley Tisdale, Zach Efron, and Vanessa Ann Hudgens(I'm not too fond of Corbin Bleu). This movie was really good, although not as good as the first one. I really liked the opening song and thought the dancing was really good. When Ashley's song came I was thinking, " Oh great this is probably going to suck!" but it didn't! It was fantastic I love Sharpay's attitude! Vannessa did really really good on that song she sang after she chewed out Sharpay. I didn't really like "You are the Music in Me" especially not the very begging when the piano player sang. It was awful.Zac Efron...it's about time they let him sing! Although I like Drew Seeley...I like Zac's voice better! I loved the last song and every other time he sang, but I wasn't too fond of his song. The dance moves were not very good all he really did was jump around and throw out his arms, and like I said he's a great singer just his song had Bakstreet Boys written all over it! Corbin Bleu. I can't stand his voice. In my opinion his voice is fake. VOICEOVERS! I don't like his dance moves or his corny shirts! I thought that line at the beginning of the movie was a little much that "Take that little hottie out on a proper date." Little Hottie? This is Disney Channel! LOL!Lucas Gabreel. I really like him I think he's cool. I really think Disney Should've given him a solo! I think this dude could sing crazy if people will let him. It was really nice to see him become a good guy! I really like that!In closing I want to say I love the movie and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ashley Tisdale! I sure hope they make a 3rd one!
Very Predictable...Funny at times...You be the judge!
posted on 05 Jul 2009First off, let me just start off by saying I was a huge fan of Highschool Musical, so it was a no-brainer I would watch the sequel, and I did....The movie takes place mainly at Ryan and Sharpay Evan's parent's country club. Sharpay (played by Ashley Tisdale) has secretly arranged for Troy Bolton (played by Zac Efron), East High's star basketball player and the new addition of the drama club, to work there as a waiter and when needed a caddy. What she doesn't know is that he also has arranged for Gabriella (played by Vanessa Anne Hudgens), his girlfriend, Chad ( played by Corbin Bleu), Taylor (played by Monique Coleman, and all his other East High friends a job as well. To Sharpay's dismay she secretly tries to steal Troy away from Gabriella in this very predictable, but funny musical. The songs in this movie are WAY better, and the singing is too, but the movie is VERY predictable to no end. You can practically tell when something is going to happen, but since it is free to watch on Disney Channel, it is worth seeing. There were parts that I was laughing really hard, and FBI...Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel do an amazing job in the song of "I don't dance" -if anything you have to watch that scene. You will love it! So remember...chill out one night when it is on Disney and tune in...be the judge for yourself. I hope this review has helped you!
Another bad, cheap Disney movie
posted on 29 Jun 2009I've never been a fan of Disney movies including HSM 1. So when I heard about HSM 2 I knew it was going to be pathetic. My little sister begged me to watch so unfortunately I gave in. IT WAS HORRIBLE! It's made HSM 1 look good. The acting is bad and the singing is OK. OK, Zac Efron is cute, not cute enough to make this movie at least half way decent. If you want a good quality movie then it's best to not watch a Disney movie. They're so cheap on Disney movies and celebrities with no talent. And now they're having a HSM 3 that's coming out in theaters, that should be good;) HSM 2 should get a lower rating than 5.2. The only people who should be a entertained by this movie should be little kids. The producers, directors, actors, etc, are just trying go as cheap as they can go and at the same time make money off their viewers. If you want to see a real musical then watch hairspray (2007).
Another unnecessary sequel
posted on 27 Jun 2009In this sequel of the 2006 hit Disney Channel Original Movie, Kenny Ortega( a.k.a. director of Hocus Pocus) tries to make an impressive sequel with great new songs and excellent choreography. Also the cast returns to try to deliver a memorable storyline to remember for ages. However that fails as this longest running Disney Channel Original Movie attempts. The cast is cheesy and they act horribly and sing so high that it ruins the ears of us. Some of the actors shouldn't even be there. Ashley Tisdale got the job because of The Suite Life, Lucas Grabel got the job because of Halloween High, and Zac and Vanessa were such a bad couple. I wish Disney Channel got better unaffiliated actors would get these parts. Sometimes they need to think outside box.
Romantic, Exciting, Teamwork, Heartbreaking, Funny.. Disney.
posted on 23 Jun 2009This is the third movie that was in the hands of the production company First Street films, while it's second was the first High School Musical movie and the first is a violent movie, while this is children's and teens. I just found that odd. Before I begin, I found it annoying that every time Troy and Gabriella are about to kiss, they are stopped by some random and pointless event. They only kiss once in the movie. Also, I was just jealous of the couple. They were just beautiful.High School Musical 2 was just better than the first. Wow, they are even making a part three which I hope is as good as this one. Unlike the Neverending Story movie series.Troy, Gabriella, and the rest of the team are working at a Summer place and are practicing for the talent show. That's basically all I can say right now.I recommend this movie for everyone. It's just very great. Like I said, the couple were so great that I was jealous.
Now actually that bad
posted on 13 Jun 2009Alright, this movie has a lot of bad reviews but that could be because people had high expectations. I watched this movie with a clear head.Everyone keeps complaining about Vanessa's acting being just sitting and giggling. This type of thing annoys me as it is the character Gabriella giggling and that is what was written in the script. If there is one thing that i have learnt in drama, its to never mix up the character and the actor. I found Vanessa's acting to actually be pretty good, she portrayed her feelings well and was effective in the time that she was on the screen.Zac's acting has definitely improved since the first movie, probably thanks to the movie of Hairspray. In this movie, Zac's actual singing voice was used and all the songs were written to allow it. One thing that annoyed me about the character of Troy is that he is always wearing that same style t'shirt and that get's annoying.Ashley Tisdale's character annoyed me in that they portrayed her as that Paris Hilton stereotype and that was inappropriate. They gave her the big shades and the small puppy dog. Another way that her character annoyed me was that at the end of High School Musical it looked like Sharpay had turned over a new leaf but in this movie she was as mean as she originally had been. The songs were all sung well and made me want to listen to them over and over again. There was only one song that i didn't like and that was What Time is it? the reason for this was that it felt like it was going on forever. One thing that was very well done was that the main characters pretty much had their own song. Troy had "Bet on It", Sharpay had "Fabulous", Ryan and Chad had "I don't dance" and Gabriella had "Gotta Go my Own Way" All together this movie wasn't as bad as what people are saying.
Improved Acting, Bad Writing and Really Bad Directing
posted on 30 May 2009I am sure that these has already been mentioned in most comments so I will just highlight the important ones.Plot: We all know that this is movie made for television but it doesn't excuse anyone to be sloppy with writing it. Sequels have expectations to live up to and this one clearly didn't. The comment Jason did on Ms. Darbus' class was already used in the first one, to relieve the tension in the class I am sure that the creative people at Disney could have made another attempt at a different line or comic relief. Also when making a plot for a sequel, one must consider what happened in the original film. In the first film everybody were friends in the end but the sequel continued as if there were no character development for the 2 main protagonists and 2 main antagonists. It started off Ryan and Sharpay still hating Gabriella and Troy. Troy doesn't do musicals when it was clear in the first movie he wants to do musicals. I thought Gabriella would be left unscathed but after her little argument with Sharpay by the pool, I spoke too soon.Songs: Most of the songs I heard from original movie was a mixture of pop and show tunes. In this one I have to say it's more for the Billboards than for a musical. The duets didn't help at all, I felt that the song was made to fit the singers and did not reflect the intention of the songwriters on how their songs should be sang. I am positive that if a tenor sang Troy's parts it would have more life to it, a baritone would be drowned out, the harmony wasn't there at all. If they release an album with Andrew Seeley and Vanessa Hudgen's duets on You're the Music in Me and Everyday on it, I'll buy it just to listen to a better performance. Also don't use a song titled I Don't Dance with a dance number, it insults the viewers' intelligence.Continuity: It's the job of the director to pay attention to details hence I blame most continuity issues on bad directing. While Gabriella sang her solo the necklace was popping in and popping out of the scene. While Troy is singing the start of Everyday one scene has the wind blowing and the next scene his hair was combed to perfection and no wind, then the next scene it's windy again......I am pretty sure that lots of people will still watch this just to know what happens next. High School Musical 2 has a lot of built-in audience from the original but the truth is it was made to promote the actors themselves and not the characters they are playing....

Does "High School Musical 2" sing it up to a whole new level?
posted on 30 Aug 2009Quite frankly, no. And that is the honest truth. It simply does not measure up to the anticipation that it has drawn. And, before I go any farther, I must say that I do consider myself a fan of HSM. I have seen the first film an unhealthy amount of times, I know the lyrics to the songs, and the dance moves as well (sorry, sounds like I'm bragging, I have a point!) but the second installment to the series is just as not as good as the first. First off, the singing is great. I will give it that. The songs are actually pretty cool and make you want to dance. But the way they come in and how many there are just don't make the film what it should have been, what it, in my opinion, was expected to have been. The song numbers come in at awkward times and it gives you that feeling that the actors are suddenly "breaking into dance." There are so many musical numbers that it seems as if the movie can barely fit in two lines of dialog. While the dancing is FABULOUS!, the storyline is pretty good as well, the way the songs come in just is not the way it should have been. The movie seemed to drag on way too long. I was surprised at how long it was, almost two hours, which is the longest Disney Channel movie yet! It just seemed like some cutting could have been done. The best part about this movie was Ashley Tisdale. She WAS Sharpay Evans. Her character was completely convincing and she showed emotion at all the right times, and the RIGHT emotion as well. Her song "Fabulous" simply WAS fabulous!! You can easily tell that she has been on national tours for plays such as "Les Miserables." However, I can't be too hard on this movie. It looked like they put a lot of work into this movie and the acting was a lot better in this one. Also, the lines weren't cheesy, which I was very surprised about. But, if you add everything up, it just doesn't measure up to what it should have been. Maybe in "High School Musical 3" it will be better...
