Those Damned Dead Just Won't Die

PLOT SUMMARY

A highly contagious virus is spreading throughout the land. With one bite, it's only hours before victims will turn into zombies and hunt for human flesh. Morgan, Ash, and Johnny might just be the only humans left, but they don't seem to mind and find enjoyment lounging around in their underwear living in vacant homes. Now the only hope for survival lies in their hands.

Visitor Reviews

A valiant effort on a over-used concept that I still love

posted on 26 Aug 2009

One of the voters said this is the love child of Flight of the Conchords and Sean of the Dead and I have to agree with that comparison. Last of the Living is a humorous take on the zombie genre with a New Zealand twist. It tells the story or 3 guys in the middle of an apocalypse surrounded by the living dead. The 3 friends move from mansion to mansion and kick back watching TV and playing video games. The banter between the guys is quite funny because it is the kinda dialogue that most male friends would use, for example, talking about chicks, talking about each others mums and thinking about what movie to watch next. Its only when they meet a female survivor that purpose comes into their lives and they try and save the world. It does rip off scenes from 28 Days Later, Day of the Dead and many others but I get the feeling that was the point. The film isn't something original, but what it does have is great camera work, cool fights, and good music. I am looking forward to seeing what the director and writer comes up with next. It kept me interested from start to finish which is more than most films and the acting was above par even though it is a horror/comedy. If you like zombie films and TV shows like Flight of the Conchords then you will enjoy this I'm sure. 6 out of 10 and I was close to giving it a 7.

What a load of rubbish nearly two hours of my life wasted, I so what they was trying to do create a cult classic but it fell on it's backside like black sheep. the acting was awful, the script was terrible, and the zombie effects were rubbish, This is the worse film that I have seen this year along with home movie. It just didn't work on many levels. their Is not one good point that I can say about this movie. leave it alone watch something else. Just go and watch another cult classic instead were the cheesiness did work like brain dead, bad taste, evil dead or a most recent film like the signal, which I did enjoy.

Disappointing

No. Not that good. I must admit I was fooled by the other (2) comments here on this movie, so I might have expected too much of it.The start is an exact copy of 28 Days Later and soon it becomes a slapstick of how to bash a mindless/slow (badlooking) zombie in a cool way. The moment I saw the first zombie appear I knew this wouldn't do it for me. It's like a few blokes made a homemade zombie flick with some You-can-play-the-zombie friends. It never held my attention, it never got scary. And thats basically it. Some new characters are added to add..nothing, more zombies appear (I guess if you can't act you can always play a zombie) and the bashing continues. If you like boring kick-the-zombie movies, this is for you, if not just skip it.

Meh .. I've seen worse

This movie is extremely low budget, so if that's not your thing, you should think twice before watching it.The story was pretty weak and the zombies were a joke; they milled around so slowly that the protagonists were able to walk through them at times, striking out at any that ventured close enough. And yet, at other times, they were "pinned down" by a handful of them. However, I enjoyed some of the music, and the characters were kind of endearing, so I ended up sticking with it to the end. What can I say? If you have nothing better to do, this movie is not the WORSE way to pass your time ..

Yup! Its the Last of the Living Dead

This Movie is Probably Going to be My Last Viewing of Zombie Movie Series, This is the Worst of its Kind and I Don't Know How did it Get a 4.8 Rating with those 292 Votes, I'm Giving this a Comment "This Movie is the Worst and Low budget with 1 out of 10 (Awful)" Because I Care for the People Who Watch Movies Based on Comments and Ratings.Just Like the Last Comment Said, It does have a Short Footage of 28 Days Later. For the People Who Already Watched and Loved Movies Like Night of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead and Land of the Dead this is Going to be an Extreme Disappointment for you, But if you Love Zombies and you Adore Zombies you'll Probably Like this Movie.

Death is Preferable than Watching This

posted on 02 Aug 2009

Low budget movies aren't always bad, but this one really is horrible. Written by what seems to be a 3 year old, the movie centers around 3 guys, one a former accountant who is coming to life as the world around him dies, another who just seems to be a hick, and the third and only saving grace of the movie is a karate trained guy who seems to be a necrophiliac, all of whom are just lounging around living every lazy man's fantasy of going from mansion to mansion and playing video games all day. The make up is really bad, even for this low budget, and the supposed "plot" makes no sense. I won't go into specifics, but watch this movie at your own risk, I just wish I hadn't.

Surprise hit

Sometimes home grown can surprise you. Expectations for this low budget kiwi zombie flick set in Christchurch were not high for this reviewer, but the comedy horror feature length spoof turned up trumps recently with its premiere at the NZ Film Festival. The cost to make the film was rumoured to have not reached the six figure mark. But it doesn't show, as this film has style, following in the tracks of Peter Jackson's early effort "Bad Taste" with its exploding sheep and kiwi humour mayhem. It opens with a lone figure tramping deserted streets that suggests a post apocalypse setting. Zombies appear suddenly and are dispatched just as quickly in a over the top splatter manner by said lone figure. He links up with two fellow survivor mates who also casually knock off scary looking zoms with a skill saw, baseball bat, a golf club and any other weapon to hand. The trio are an unlikely combo of geeky ex accountant Ash (Ashleigh Southam) and his two mates Morgan (Morgan Williams) and a raving rock and roller Johnny (Robert Faith). They get by as best they can in spite of the flesh munching undead menace. Then the love interest arrives in the form of gorgeous young scientist (Emily Paddon-Brown) as she seeks to find the vaccine that will save what's left of the normal world. Sexual rivalry is of course then let loose amongst the chaos.Crazy stuff, but delightfully delivered with some neat acting, very funny dialogue, great soundtrack and judicious editing. It has that sort of zany "Flight of the Conchords" feel about it, and could easily become a cult classic. Impressive first effort, lots of stars, a madcap film well worth a visit if it comes back in the mainstream cinemas.Laurence Shaw

Pretty fun movie to watch

posted on 09 Jul 2009

If Sean of the Dead and Flight of the Concords had a love child...I think it just might be this movie. For the most part this is a pretty fun and amusing zombie flick to watch, with a somewhat original approach to it. If you're looking for a gore fest, this movie is definitely not it...although it does have some pretty cool zombie deaths mixed in. A quick summary of the plot: The movie starts off 6 months after the "apocolypse" and most the world is overrun with zombies. The film quickly switches to 3 guys kicking back in a mansion. As far as they know they're the only survivors around and have been spending their time traveling from mansion to mansion, drinking beer and playing video games. It actually seems like a lot of fun. While out perusing the town for a new pad they run across an attractive young lady who has a solution to the zombie issue. That's where the movie takes on it's main plot, so I won't spoil anymore.Really what saves this movie is the camera work. It's really well done. The dialog is also one of the main focus points in this film, seeing as there is definitely a lot more talking than fighting...but if you get the humor then you'll find yourself enjoying it just as much as the violence. The other review said this movie was made for under 1 million...and I think it was pretty well spent. Overall I'd suggest giving this film a watch.

Lame!

Heavens where do I start. To compare this to Shawn of the dead is like comparing Bram Stokers Dracula to Leslie Nielson's version.Zombies (in this movie) are pathetic. The Ex-girlfriend zombie in real groovy actually has a smile on her face and sounds as if she's laughing.Save yourself 88 mins and rather watch something produced by Woody Allen if you really want a miserable 1 1/2 hours. This movie does present a world first though...world's first jumping zombie (the priest). To sum up the funniest bit of this movie was the dude doing a "beserker" in the boxing ring and getting knocked the heck out.

Enjoyable movie, not a blockbuster but quite fun

As long as you aren't expecting a blockbuster, you should enjoy this movie. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a zombie movie, with characters who are "the boys" in every way. If you like zombie movies, then you'll probably only read the comments to make sure that the movie isn't terrible - which it isn't.It has fun, funny, serious, and even poignant moments. There is some character development as well. One criticism would be that the movie sometimes makes killing zombies looks easy and fun, and in other situations difficult. The movie has good atmosphere, although not as well developed as Shaun of the Dead or 28 Days Later. The plot is not terribly strong or original though.

Funny Kiwi look at the Zombie Apocalypse

posted on 13 Jun 2009

This movie is the movie I have always wanted to see. It answers the age-old question "how would New Zealanders fare in the zombie apocalypse?" in a humorous way. Watching this movie was very cool because when I first got it I thought it was a British movie but the opening scene, with a person running around Wellington cleared that up. After that I really enjoyed watching three lazy people in Christchurch deal with the zombie apocalypse by doing what any lazy person would do, sit around playing games, looting, talking about chicks and watching stuff on the TV. I will admit it was not scary but I didn't see that as being what the movie was about. The entire movie changes quite quickly though when these guys run into a woman. Very quickly they are actively trying to save the world from the zombie apocalypse. To sum up, with a bigger budget for some more gruesome deaths and a slightly more interesting plot this could have been a truly great kiwi film. As it is it's a very good film, which I think captures the essence of being a lazy twenty-something in the zombie apocalypse.

While watching this film I tried to work out the quickest way of killing myself.

The film, was terrible, the voices sounded like they we're purely overdubbed. The acting made Megan Fox looks good. I understand it's an indie film so I'll let them things go. I found the first 10 minutes of the film entertaining and I would even go as far to say I found it funny. But after then it was just downhill, generic story lines almost ripped out of other movies. Characters incredible stupid, who would go to a record store when they went out for shopping during middle of a zombie infestation, no person in would do that, it wasn't even believable for the character.Overall if you know somebody suicidal who you don't like, let them watch this film and about half way through just pass them the cyanide pill.

Very inconsistent

posted on 05 Jun 2009

This film is all over the place, one minute you have classic shambling zombies then later in the film they can run. If you get bitten by the zombie you get turned into one (sometimes instantly when the mood hits the writers even though at another stage in the film they say it takes more than an hour to turn) but if the zombies blood gets sprayed into your mouth it's fine. At one stage one of the characters is able to knock out a zombie with a punch in other scenes 3 of them can't knock one zombie with bats (although I think they where just copying Shaun of the dead in that scene). I suppose the films supposed to be a comedy but it fails at that too, overall nothing works here it's a bad comedy, it's a bad horror and it's about as suspenseful as watching a dog lick it's own balls.
