To take this movie at face value is to miss the point
posted on 20 Aug 2009This movie rocked. It wasn't as good as the first, but it followed well. The only reason that it wasn't received well is that A) It isn't new material and B) A bunch of cynical gen-xers voted on it.Elle stays true to herself, is determined and is a great role model for young women. The movie is loaded with messages about tolerance, teamwork, optimism and honesty; all things American.Go Elle, you get things done.
Well, if you like animal humour . . . .
posted on 20 Aug 2009I bought this DVD at Blockbuster used for really super cheap, so I guess I didn't lose out that
much. I bought it on an impulse because I found the first one to be such a pleasant,
empowering, feel-good kind of movie whose only weakness was the chihuahua.
Imagine my
horror when I discovered within the first few minutes that the whole sequel centred around
the damned dog. I suppose there do exist those who get a chuckle out of a dogs in funny
outfits, but, euh . . . .Other than that, it still had plenty of weaknesses. Too much of it was just SO not grounded
to the point where even whimsical I couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to buy it. I mean,
cheerleading interns crawling on the ground, booty dancing and barking while crunchy old
politicians bob their heads? The stern old lady breaking down and weeping publically at the
story of a boy and his puppy? Aside from agreeing to do the movie, Reese Witherspoon did
nothing wrong-- she was adorable. Bob Newhart was also really cute, but the whole movie is
just kinda dumb. And while I do not advocate animal cruelty, I do NOT like beasts, let alone movies about
them. There are better things to do with your 95 minutes.
What a disappointment
posted on 14 Aug 2009This movie sucked! It was way worse than the first one... and I really regret ever getting excited about it and paying to go see it. Within the first 30 minutes of the movie half of the audience walked out. It was so lame it became painful for me to watch. The movie is way overexaggerated and unbelievable, and nothing about it is funny at all...
Sharp-Dressed Blonde.
posted on 10 Aug 2009Legally Blonde brought an ending that could satisfy both men and women. It was an ending which contained a great courtroom scene, some conclusive alliances were cleared up, and a graduation. However it didn't quite yell out "SEQUEL!" as it was a light ending to conclude a good film. We got it anyway but the question here was would Legally Blonde stay to the non-stereotypical formula or would it go the other way for what would be a very sour sequel.Reese Witherspoon comes back as Elle Woods, now an attorney who has found a great law firm in Boston. However after some of her controversial fashion-law sense, she's fired and she seeks justice as she looks for a better political job in Washington D.C. In the mean time, Luke Wilson comes back as Emmett Richmond. Emmett is now a law professor at Harvard and him and Elle are engaged. They have big marriage plans as they plan to get married at Fenway Park, under the Green Monster (to you non-baseball fans, that's the big green wall Fenway Park is famous for). However when she decides to temporarily move to Washington, their marriage plans are halted. In Washington, Elle Woods joins a new law firm. The people there are filled with ivy-league, hotshot lawyers who find Elle's motives of clashing fashion with law weird themselves. When Elle is there, she meets with a congresswoman in order to pass a bill to ban animal testing as the story; it turns out before she even went to Washington, her favorite designer name is also an animal testing facility. She even finds out that her beloved chiwawa, Bruiser, actually has his parents in that testing facility and she wants them to be at her wedding. At her law firm, one of her enemies is a smart lawyer named Grace Rossiter (played by Regina King) who eventually becomes one of her friends. She eventually befriends all the lawyers there as they help with her animal testing protest parade, blah, blah, yada, yada. She even calls Paulette (Jennifer Coolidge) to come to D.C and help with the protest. The movie is centred around the protest in winning the rights to the stop of animal testing. However at parts in the film, she also befriends congressmen and congresswomen in the weirdest situations. At the local D.C beauty parlour, she meets Libby Hauser (Dana Ivey), a congressman who too is concerned about animal rights, particularly for dogs. Then she meets Stanford Marks (Bruce McGill), a congressman who's dog... how should I put this, meets with Elle's dog, Bruiser as they become more than friends. Note: the dogs are both male but it is all put in for comedy of course, which I found quite funny myself.Overall, Legally Blonde 2 stays with the non-stereotypical formula, which brought the first some success. It's a nicely written story and is still quite enjoyable. Sequels-wise, I believe it's one of those rare sequels that exactly matches the first as a lot these days are mediocre or surpass the original. If you're a fan of the series, go for it has it's a cute, funny romp that you can enjoy if you forget it's a chick flick. It has its fair share of problems and sour moments and falls even of the first. I just think going to Legally Blonde 3 would be going way too far.My Rating: 6/10Eliason A.
Red, White, and Bomb
posted on 06 Aug 2009How unfunny can a movie be? Rather than make these lazy-butt sequels (this movie and Charlies Angels II) come up with something new! Witherspoon plays this role like she remembers every once in a while she is Elle Woods...ah, the heck with it, I don't even feel like commenting on this movie it is so bad.
Not horrendously bad, but far from good
posted on 04 Aug 2009I loved the original Legally Blonde, and I knew going into this movie that it wouldn't be as good as the original. My only solace lies in the thought that this could have been so much worse than it was.First, LB2 relied too much on the Elle-Woods-Fish-Out-Of-Water plot. It should have portrayed the main character as being savvy enough to take advantage of the fact that her opponents always underestimated her. After all, she's been out of law school a couple of years already, surely she'd have learned that much, right?Second, the plot itself was too contrived. There wasn't a single believable character in the show, and Witherspoon was just a caricature of the original movie's heroine. But I still managed to enjoy most of the show. I even chuckled in a couple of scenes. But I winced at far too many other scenes, and the climactic speech to Congress was abominable.I've seen worse remakes than this, but I think the producers missed an opportunity to make a good film instead of a knock-off.
Impossible, but funny
posted on 25 Jul 2009I came into this movie with pretty high hopes, considering it was a sequel.
However, I soon realized that to enjoy this movies, a person had to suspend their disbelief to even tolerate this movie. Halfway through, I started laughing and couldn't stop. It's hilarious, especially if you see it with the right people, but it's definitely one of those pointless movies that are perfect for summer.
Legally Blonde 2: The Sequel which should never been made
posted on 19 Jul 2009First off, I have to admit I actually liked the first Legally Blonde. It was different and fun. I am not particularly a fan of Reese Witherspoon but she does have her moments. I was very shock to hear that a Legally Blonde 2 was in the works. I seen the trailers and TV spots and I knew the movie was going to be a bad idea. Well, guess what? I was right. On July 4th, I went to see Legally Blonde 2 with the free ticket I got for it from the Guy Thing DVD. Man oh Man was I right about this bomb. This movie has completely forgotten what made the original one so enjoyable. Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is back and heading to Washington. Now why is she going to Washington? Well she is going to get married but she wanted her dog Bruiser's family to be at the wedding. Well Elle goes to a special agent to track down Bruiser's mother. Oddly enough the agent finds Bruiser's mother, who is in a animal testing lab. Elle, of course, finds this wrong and goes to Washington to create a law called Bruiser's Law which prohibits animal testing. Wow I am shocked I remembered that. Well to be honest the plot was so stupid and I have to ask why once again is Elle coming off like a Blonde Bimbo? Who in their right mind goes to a special agent to find a dog? Well that is pretty much the whole point of the movie. As for the rest of the movie, it follows the same lines of the original with Elle not being accepted and her proving everyone wrong. The movie uses Gay Dog Jokes to gather up a few giggles. This sequel has no originality to it and is very painful to sit through. I could not recommend this movie to anyone. I was a fan of the first one but this one was completely dumb and unnecessary. I would recommend that you wait for cable to watch this one. My rating for Legally Blonde 2 would be a 3/10.
Legally Bland
posted on 17 Jul 2009A better title for this movie would have been Legally Bland. The makers of the sequel to 2001's surprise hit comedy Legally Blonde seem to have pushed the new film through the dreaded `movie de-flavourizer,' sucking all the charisma, fun and worst of all, the humour, out of the script. Even Reese Witherspoon, who charmed her way into the Hollywood a-list as pretty-in-pink Elle Woods in the first instalment, seems flat and uninspired. The story, such that it is, holds a bit of comedic promise. Woods, the not-so-ditzy blonde, wants to invite the mother of her closet friend to her upcoming wedding. That friend is, of course her dog Bruiser, and unfortunately the mother is trapped in an animal testing facility. After trying to convince her stuffy law firm to take action against the laboratory, and getting herself fired in the process, she decides to take on Washington. From here on in the movie follows the pattern established by the original, minus the jokes. As Elle tries to get an animal rights bill passed in congress she is pitted against a series of sit-com worthy characters who are eventually won over by the perky fashionista. It's all very trite, which is fine, this is a summer teen movie after all, but the complete absence of chuckle worthy material makes what should have been a light and airy film float like a lead balloon. Not even the reliable Bob Newhart as the wise doorman can wrestle a laugh out of this script.Making a sequel can be a nasty, unforgiving business in this case the original was as sweet and gooey as pink cotton candy while Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde is a sugarless retread.
Awesome Movie
posted on 17 Jul 2009awesome movie Reese Witherspoon is one of my favorite Actresses!! i hope they have an Legally Blonde 3 with Reese Witherspoon in it as well this movie had a very good meaning behind it no matter what someones says about you you can do anything you set your mind to and i felt that is what the movie meant to be i love the scrapbook at the beginning how did they do the balloons on the page with Reese Wwitherspoon and Sally Field this movie had some funny parts too esp bob new hart when he was like fo sizzle that was so funny bruiser the dog is so cute i love this movie so much i hope they keep on making legally blonde movies awesome wedding for Reese and Luke
Legally Blonde with a change of characters!!!
posted on 15 Jul 2009Legally Blonde was definitely a movie for certain acquired tastes, and the producers should only expect those who enjoyed the first one to follow up for the second.Having said that, and being someone who appreciated the humor in the first, this sequel is nothing special but decent. It could actuall be compared to sequels of the likes of Home Alone 2. Everything is the same, Elle finds herself in a situation that is far above her, yet rises to the occassion.
As the snow shoveling man in the first Hom Alone was replaced by the pigeon lady in the sequel, Paulette (the misfit character, who is in the sequel) is replaced by Sidnet (played by Bob Newhart) an old underappreciated door man at a hotel who knows more about Washington than half the politicians there.
Of course as Kevin does with the pigeon lady, Elle bonds with Sidney and he is able to help her. As in the original, there is the selfish character and quick to judge this time replacing Selma Blair with Regina King.Overall, Elle is faced with the same kind of judgemental people, those who are willing to help, and those who she is able to connect with in different ways. There is nothing new here in this sequel. Reese Witherspoon still has not lost her charm with the character and comes off as loveable as ever, and the entire time we are still cheering for her. While this movie is nothing special, those who enjoyed the first will once again enjoy this one, but will probably be a little disappointed that everything is the same, including the humor. For still being a charming, rise to the occasion movie, as the first, yet not offering anything new I give Legally Blonde 2 a 5/10.
Is this film even legal?
posted on 01 Jul 2009Oh, I was very disappointed after watching this film. This movie has yet to be another victim of the "sequel" curse. What happened??I loved the first part. Good story line, terrific humor, and Reese Witherspoon is such a talented actress. Legally Blond, was a very funny, sweet film. The sequel however is such a disappointment. Reese's character totally lost her touch in this film. I'm not even impress anymore. I'm sorry, but her character portrayed on how really dumb the blonds are, not to mention quite very annoying. I really thought this film would be funnier as the first one, but clearly I was wrong. This film is a waste of time and money. Might contain some funny highlights but overall tasteless and boring.Go watch this film on video.3 stars out of 10.
Red, White and FUN!
posted on 29 Jun 2009Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde (2003) ***/****Red, White and FUN!Reese Witherspoon plays Elle Woods again, however this time she's out to stop animal testing. With dog Bruiser's case to see his mother for Elle's wedding, found out bruiser's Mum was being tested on.A highly silly movie it is, but highly entertaining and contains some excellent one-liners. Sally Field and Bruce McGill give respectable performances as co-stars. It seems to be the one of the big hits of 2003 and I can see why, because Woods though rather dumb is a sweet and good meaning character. With amusing comments about homosexual dogs and fun court scenes, though Witherspoon's argument consists of stating that animal testing is cruel and her dog is cute, watch this or I will legally think you have no taste!
ALMOST As Good As The First
posted on 29 Jun 2009I had borrowed Legally Blonde from one of my friends and when I'd finished watching it I loved it. RIGHT AFTER, I found out we owned Legally Blonde 2. I immediately put it in and began watching because I loved the first so much. When I was through with this movie, I coudln't help but love it too. I even thought it was better than the first when I got through watching it, but then I thought about it and Legally Blonde was SLIGHTLY better. Still, this movie delivered well as a sequel. I loved Reese Witherspoon's character yet again, and found a lot of the jokes cute and laughable, and thought they did very well on the story line and the character structures. This was a really great sequel, and to me it is an under-appreciated movie, because it wasn't THAT bad as everyone lets on. See it if you liked the first, because this is just as good.
Just Awful
posted on 09 Jun 2009If you are really interested in this movie, then save yourself the 10 bucks and go rent the first "Legally Blonde" at the video store. This movie is essentially a carbon copy of the first movie. Same jokes, horrible plot. Complete waste of Witherspoon's and Fields' talents, and more importantly a waste of the moviegoers time and money.
First one was much better
posted on 05 Jun 2009I love Reese, I love everything she has done, but this was just painful.
Elle is a great character and they just made her seem silly. If you aren't expecting greatness, this was an okay movie. One thing that I have to comment on...the freakin' sound boom in ALMOST EVERY SCENE. Man was that ever distracting. You would think with the amount of money they spend on movies, they could have one person looking at the shot saying "Hey, the boom is in the shot." How hard is that? I wouldn't mind if it were just once, but it was continually in every scene.
Yuck.
Washington's new 'do.
posted on 01 Jun 2009America should be like this, with a French manicure, a big ol honest heart, and matching heels. Fry the critics and purists, wherever they may shout, Elle is back and as good as ever.Legally Blonde 2 has an admittedly ridiculous premise: Elle's getting married, wants her beloved pup Bruiser's mama to show at the wedding, and when she finds the matriarchal canine as a test animal for a cosmetics company, she's outraged, at first because they won't let the dog out in time for her wedding, but she soon sees the crime in it. She then goes to DC to turn it all around (a fine revelation she has while picking out a wedding dress). And she doesn't turn Washington around with shrewd arguments and hard edged research, she takes it by storm, Bel Air style. But the film doesn't take itself seriously at all, in fact the realism of the film is about as present as it is in "Moulin Rouge", and it doesn't pretend to be realistic either, as several scenes attest. In fact the setup is simply a vehicle for the larger underlying theme: this Washington, if anything, is an alternate reality, and the movie plays out as something of a symbolic satire. In this simple yet complicated Washington D.C., getting a congressman to side with you is as easy as finding a similar personality trait (in this case dogs and Delta Nu) or to put on a good performance in any number of strange places (use style!), but politicians still double cross, compromise their own visions and conscience for appeasment and success, and they still seem to have the good of everything but the people in mind. Elle, on the other hand, represents all that isn't snobby and cynical. She's the Valley girl with a big heart, great clothes, a Harvard law degree, and a quirky sense of getting things done. The political action may be comically simplistic and idealistic, with a good number of average comedy-sequel jokes, but it's satire at it's heart. I was surprised by this. I was expecting the typical sequel fare, but this had a lot to say about politics and government, and cynicism and selfishness vs idealism, masked in big budget comedy. Where the original was an ode to blonde fun and anti-snobbery, this takes the risk of being critical and satirical. In many ways it's "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (which actually makes a cameo appearance in the film) with a goofy streak and a bite. The film is fun, it squires broad and situational comedy, and a good deal of charm and glamour, plus a load of cleverness. The film had clever touches left and right, and I think I'll attribute that to the inspired choice of getting the talented indie director Charles Herman-Wurmfeld (Kissing Jessica Stein), who gave the film a one-two punch, a wink, giggle, and a grin to go along with it.The writing is funny, but it isn't as sharply witty as the first film, and it can be predictable, but it flows quite well, and the charisma of the piece gives it a shimmer and shine. Reese Witherspoon is quite cute. Though this isn't finely tuned acting (she's capable, it's just the way it was written), it's a great comedic performance, and it is a performance, because she milks it for all she's got. Interestingly, she also makes Elle inspiring. I know it's not cool to say a blockbuster chick flick comedy sequel's character is inspiring, but Elle is so sure of herself, so proud of being pretty and stylish, so non-judgemental of people and wanting to help others, and unabashedly careless about the low opinions people have of her, she's a character who's nice to be around for 2 hours and made me want to rummage through my InStyle magazine collection. But next to Reese the real star of the film is the costume design. These are great costumes that help to tell the story, and contrast characters; it's films with wardrobes like this that raise my ever increasing respect and admiration for costume designers.Luke Wilson overacts in this one, I like him, but he's a bit too "aw-shucks", though his lack of screentime and chracter developement isn't his fault, so still it's nice to see him. Sally Field is wonderfully conniving; Bob Newhart is wonderfully endearing, and Elle's trio of friends thankfully get some more screentime than the first film. Actress Mary Lynn Rajskub gives a great performance as the downtrodden preppy-lawyer wanna be, who gets an attitude and style makeover.I'm a chick flick fan, partly because I'm a chick. I'm also a displaced San Diegan which makes me partial to California laced films. But as a film buff, and I try to be as honest about movies as possible, I'll say that this film is a satire and it is funny, but don't look for Dr. Strangelove or Some Like it Hot. It is cute, and refreshing. It's a big sequel with a heart and was thoughtful enough to be thoughtful. It knows it's entertainment, but it doesn't pull any cheap manipulative tricks, and I think it has some legitimate things to say about the nature of politics, idealism, common courtesy, and how style is a very, very good thing. In a way it's funny, you'd never think Elle Woods would represent a higher themed film, but then know one ever really expects much of her.

absolutely the worst waste of film
posted on 30 Aug 2009This was one of the worst wastes of film I've seen in the last five years... or maybe in my lifetime. This is tripe of the worst kind and a complete waste of time for anyone to sit through it. Don't bother !!!
