Mr. St. Nick Movie
Storyline
TAGLINES PLOT SUMMARY
n Mistletoe Manor, King Nicholas XX, commonly known as Santa Claus (Oscar ® and Emmy nominee Charles Durning, Hard Time), and his wife Carlotta (Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Katherine Helmond, "Who's The Boss?"), aren't feeling particularly jolly. With Christmas only weeks away, the aging king is ready to pass his throne to the Crown Prince, Nick St. Nicholas (Golden Globe and Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer, Animal Farm). But the sexy Santa-to-be is a no-show heir with other priorities - his lavish seaside estate, leggy newswoman Heidi Gardelle (Elaine Hendrix, The Parent Trap), and public relations expert Hector Villarba (Luis Garcia, "American Family"). Heidi and Hector may not know Nick's true identity, but they do know that he is the prince of benefits. Their plan? Use his knockout connections to create an on-line holiday charity. Nick's all for it. Unfortunately, the problems are just beginning. A charge of fraud has turned Nick's charity into a nationwide scandal. What's it going to take to prevent Christmas from becoming a dim memory? Nothing short of a miracle.

Kelsey puts a nice spin on this story
posted on 27 Feb 2009At first I thought this would be a Santa Clause rip-off, but after seeing it, I would recommend it to anyone.Despite the plot similarities, this movie stood on its own merits. The casting was perfectly done, and the actors did very well in their roles. Charles Durning and Katherine Helmond made a nice pair as the outgoing Santa and Mrs. Claus. Who better to play the role of a "young" Santa struggling with identity and relationship issues than the actor who played Frasier all of those years. No good story is complete without a good villain, and Elaine Hendrix -- who played the gold-digging fiancée in "The Parent Trap" -- again played the part to perfection.I especially liked the subtext of how the power and love of the holiday spirit can overcome the cruel, corrupt world surrounding us.Give it a look...with the family!
Cute, Fun Christmas Movie for the Whole Family!
posted on 10 Nov 2007I remember seeing this a few years ago and was delighted to find it on DVD. I'm a fan of Kelsey Grammer and he makes a great Santa! It's a great story of a "playboy" who is heir to the throne of Santa, but doesn't want the job. Then throw in a pair of wacky crooks and a little romance and you have a great Holiday film! Will he want his rightful position as Santa? Watch and find out!
I would like to note that this DVD does not play on all DVD players. I own a Toshiba DVD player and it won't play correctly, however, on my fathers JVC it plays just fine. Go figure. I own other movies from Hallmark and I've never had this problem.
Frasier IS Santa!
posted on 20 Feb 2006This is a family-friendly Christmas movie that boasts all the great qualities of films of a bygone era. One could easily imagine this film in glorious black-and-white featuring Academy Award Winners of the 30's and 40's.
The story of a playboy discovering that he has now become Santa is filled with humor. Of course, there is an evil woman bent on taking the hero away from the true love, and some low-life "grinches" who are determined to ruin Christmas by discrediting our Santa. The only surprise here is that Kelsey Grammer makes a really cute and believable Santa. He makes that beard and suit look GOOD!
could do with some work
posted on 06 Feb 2005my kids loved it but i thought it could use some work i didn't like the part how Santa Claus only was for 100 year because in other movies and books he is meant to live forever and my kids asked why it was different in that movie and i had to make up excuses otherwise it was a great movie
Ugh
posted on 30 Dec 2004I normally wouldn't bother writing a review for a made for TV movie, but I got stuck watching while at home for Christmas. Christmas movies are supposed to be kind of cliched, they have to be because Christmas has become a cliche to most people. This movie took that idea and ran with it.First you have the reluctant Santa Claus, which has only been done a few dozen times in recent years. Then there is the rich man falling in love with the hired help, coupled into man being engaged to one woman only to realize it was a mistake and that he is really in love with girl-come-lately. Then add some cookie-cutter characters, like the proper butler giving sage advice. Or how about that the hired help has a mystery son. I say mystery son because it is never explained if the son is from a bad marriage, out-of marriage, widowed, etc. At least I don't remember it being explained. I won't even go into the goofy cop, the swindling best friend, incredibly sappy happy ending, etc.I think there are people in the world who would relish a movie like this, but if cliches, and telegraphed plot twists turn your stomach, then avoid this movie.
Good clean holiday entertainment
posted on 11 Aug 2004This is a good entry for the christmas movie genre. Yes it's predictable in it's intent and content. If you like old fashion movies ( 30's 40's ) you'll like this movie. There seems to be a trend in the christmas movie genre to have a younger image attached to the santa claus persona and this is no exception to that trend. We are talking in the last maybe 10 years or so of course. The leads are good and play their characters out very convincing. Of Kelsey Grammer is Kelsey Grammer but he's utilized in a good way. Ana Ortiz is well cast as the good girl next door trying to make it in America with typical yet dopy ( immigration agent nardo ) obsticles in her way. Once again this is a christmas movie with cliche's abounding thru out. If you are looking for lite fare with no car chases and good family fun this is your movie.

Cute Christmas movie.
posted on 07 Apr 2009A very cute movie Christmas movie that isn't all about kids. It's nice to have a departure to something a bit more grown-up.
