Visitor Reviews
This movie does not seem good.
posted on 18 Aug 2009This movie needed to show a better preview because i have not seen it but the preview is not helping me.I would like the previews to show what is going on because i did not get what was going on and why Kate Hudson had to fall for two guys one a good two shoes and the other a natural bad hearted person who tried to be bad.It is not that it looks bad but it does not seem interesting enough for my taste. Also the timing was bad on coming out with another movie about love.I love Kate hudson because she is beautiful woman but she needs to make good movies not these bad comedies about love and with these blonde guys that do bad movies too.
Cooking raunchy chatter comedy here!
posted on 18 Aug 2009(In the style of The Cars hit song "My Best Friend's Girl")These romantic comedies are always playing down the street With their formulaic chic film style And every new date boy that gets to see Is not in store for a real surprise (here he comes again) Dane Cook plays Tank with his unruly style Oh, he'll make you flip (here he comes again) When he is cursing to his dates neath the starry sky I kind of like the way he bleeps He stars in "My Best Friend's Girl" He rocks in "My Best Friend's Girl" His Tank is not kind Kate Hudson got her mother's acting roots But sometimes it drips way above When she tries to be too hip In some reaction to love, o-ove, o-ove (here she comes again) When she is starring in movies it makes me cry Yeah, I think I will movie flip (here she comes again) Playing another chic-flick chic who dumps a guy Cause she also stars in "My Best Friend's Girl" She does suck in "My Best Friend's Girl" She used to be so fine She was so fineOK, I will stop "The Cars" and put on the brakes. The aforementioned musical analogy provided my in-pun input on the protagonists of the film "My Best Friend's Girl". But just in case you did not comprehend the musical jingle film review lingo, let me present it to you in more standard pun terms: Dane Cook was hilarious as Tank, a jabbering Bostonian who gets paid by male dumpees to date their female dumpers in order to reconcile with them. Tank's side-splitting female humiliation ploys is the only aspect that stopped me from not completely dumping "My Best Friend's Girl". Kate Hudson was horrendously superficial as Alexis, our leading female protagonist who herself has dumped Tank's best friend Dustin (played by Jason Biggs); let's just say that Dustin is a very Offman in the courtship department. Dustin eventually hires Tank to shoot his dating fires on Alexis, and out of nowhere (smell of sarcasm arises) Tank falls for his best friend's girl. Director Howard Deutch probably got the inspiration on helming "My Best Friend's Girl" from his younger dating days when he would ask his female dates to go "dutch". Punning kidding aside, his effort was credible but ran into too many emblematic romantic comedy traps. I do give a nod to Screenwriter Jordan Cahan for having the "cahanes" to scribe up a witty raunchy dialogue for Tank. However, the rest of his written narrative of "My Best Friend's Girl" had "Help me Howard" written all over it. I would not be a good friend to you if I would tell you see "My Best Friend's Girl" as soon as possible. My best advice to you is to wait for its Netflix delivery! *** Average
Definite guilty pleasure for me, headlined by Jesus Crust - where pizza is a religious experience!
posted on 16 Aug 2009I went to this only because I couldn't get into the movie I came to the theater for. I don't know Dane Cook's stand-up and hated him in the overrated Dan In Real Life. But, we figured we could pass time for two hours so we went in.It started routinely enough. Okay, the guy gets paid to be the date from heck so the girls goes crying back into her guy's arms. Okay concept, if executed well. Then we get Jason Biggs trying to clean up his act to impress Kate Hudson who likes him but is not wowed by him. Since Jason is Dane's roommate, he hires Dane to do his specialty. By this point, we're 20+ minutes into the movie and it made me laugh twice and is otherwise pretty lame. I looked at my watch. Then, Kate's roommate preps her for the date to sow some wild oats and the real fun begins. The humor in My Best Friend's Girl is rude, crude, inappropriate, socially irredeemable -- and made me laugh out loud - a lot! Cook's chemistry with Hudson was electric. The twist is she can give as good as she gets and vice versa. She gets under his skin, but he stays in denial, leading to his next assignment which to me was the high point of the movie. The girl is religious and he takes her to a restaurant in an old church called Jesus Crust - where pizza is a religious experience. i don't want to spoil the inspired gags in this sequence, but I was nearly rolling in the aisles. This victim actually winds up setting the stage for a few plot twists I didn't expect. The movie is raucous fun from then on until the end.I thought Alec Baldwin was absurdly funny as the Women's Studies professor who is Cook's father. His chemistry with Cook is also terrific. Cook's former client who is about to marry Kate's sister is also hilarious as is she and the woman playing Kate's mother. Then, the movie goes a bit soft, conventional, and derivative -- but is still witty at the end, and the last two scenes play out nicely. This is not a piece of art, but if you ever went to frat parties and can remember having fun at them and want to spend some time laughing out loud, give My Best Friend's Girl a look. I work in Manhattan so I have to be careful to whom I say I liked this movie -- that's why I call it a guilty pleasure!
Liked it, but for different reasons for a lot of the commenters it seems
posted on 10 Aug 2009I really like this movie, i found it romantic and cried in it.Everyone seems to paint Tank as "just another asshole" who switchs around halfway through the movie to become the romantic leading man or whatever. But i didn't see a bad guy, i saw his surface character, a masochistic asshole who manipulates women for money and sex. but i thought they were also pretty obvious about his inner romantic. scenes like the one where hes watching Ghost and crying then blows it off as "you cancelled the spice channel" when Dusty walks in. When Dusty asks him to "do his thing" the way he trys to freak him out and get him not to ask without blowing his cover as the tough guy.The character i found myself hating in this movie was Dusty and the other guys who would actually employ tank. they claimed to love their girlfriends and yet they pay someone to terrorise their girlfriends back into a relationship they were obviously unhappy in. Dusty especially, he acts like hes the "nice guy" but hes not, hes just an asshole. a pathetic whiny loser who trys to trick a girl into loving him.and Tanks interactions with his father, you can see years of mental conditioning. He sees himself as a younger version of his dad and his dad reaffirms this belief. He sees a life of being alone, without love, being incapable of committing himself to a relationship. I know how that feels, i get being afraid that your half a person.everyone seems to regard Tank as "the bad guy" starring in the movie for a change but its not like that. He's a tool used by insecure, stupid men to cripple their girlfriends into never leaving them.I kinda felt like women in this movie were unrepresented though, the main female lead didn't really have all that much charisma, she was just the love interest and not a lot more. the female characters i identified with were the best friend and the religious victim. And the cheesus crust scene made me laugh
Love Conquers Some... Not All
posted on 10 Aug 2009For the first 15 minutes of "My Best Friend's Girl" I was laughing as I would while listening to an extremely raw rap song. I kept thinking, "Whoa, I never heard that particular phrasing with those anatomical references." More precisely I was laughing and thinking, "Man, this sh*t is messed up!" Disturbingly, I was pretty much laughing in the theater by myself. Fortunately, others around me had good taste. This analogy is warranted. One of the outrageous scenes is half blitzed out of her mind Alexis (cute Kate Hudson) singing an infamous 2 Live Crew song, and proclaiming, "I almost lost my virginity to this song!"Portions of Director Howard Deutch's "My Best Friend's Girl" are so ridiculously misogynistic that it can so readily be dismissed as calculation and puerile caricature. Particularly in the opening Writer Jordan Cahan' script is so mind bendlingly opaque, that it would only be truly offensive, if some wit and humor were involved. We get the point about Dane Cook's Tank after a couple minutes. The sledge hammer approach for the first 20 minutes or so just annoyed me while waiting for the actual story to kick in. To his credit, Cahan is better at quirky romantic comedy which I really presume this was intended to be, rather than some inept attempt at edgy gross out comedy. As for the latter attempt Cahan spirals miserably. This ordinarily would be moot, had it not completely wasted the genuine chemistry of Dane Cook and Kate Hudson. When the movie lets their chemistry shine, they are charming. Probably both were attracted to making a raunchy romantic comedy, but Deutch really fumbles the ball in both scope and judging the "lines".Dane Cook plays Tank, who works for an air conditioning company. Tank moonlights as the guy you hire to date your ex-girl friend, who justifiably dumps you for cheating or worse. Tank has sexist arrogant creep down to an art form. After dating Tank, your ex begs to get back together after realizing the error of her ways. But, asshole Tank really has a heart of gold. Yes, this is formulaic and entirely predictable. Tank also has a sense of honor, demonstrated when he gets livid that one of his clients has sex with another woman, after he helps him get his ex-fiancé back.Tank's best friend and roommate Dustin (dorky Jason Biggs) is a complete loser, who is madly in love with his co-worker Alexis (radiant Kate Hudson). After 5 weeks of dating, Dustin confesses to Alexis, "I love you." Wisely Alexis suggests that they just remain friendsthe kiss of death. Desperate Dustin resorts to asking Tank to get Alexis back for him. Tank reluctantly agrees, but promises his masterpiece: "She's gonna cry tears that form 'call Dusty'". Unsurprisingly, Tank falls in love with Alexis. Admittedly, predictability is "My Best Friend's Girl" at its best. Amazingly, the scene where Tank gazes up at the beautiful Alexis punctuates their screen chemistry. And it is a real shame that quality is wasted at the expense of cliché and clueless jokes. One of the glimmering objects in this narrative heap is Alec Baldwin. Baldwin is rapidly becoming the next William Shatner, an iconic and self-deprecating comic genius. Baldwin plays Tank's father Prof. Turner, who is a skirt chasing horn dog. When Tank admits that he may be falling in love, Baldwin mocks his son as becoming Nora Ephron. That's pretty good. Also Riki Lindhome makes a compassionate turn as school teacher Hilary, who Tank intentional offends in his tragic rebound. These two solid performances also indict the schizophrenic nature of "My Best Friend's Girl". Cook and Baldwin have a nice conversation as Tank asks his Dad why Mom left him. Again, this is misplaced in the movie. And when Hilary outs Tank as a romantic, he confesses, "I'm a great asshole." In context this is all offset by Tank asking a family member for oral sex at Alexis's sister's wedding. Most of Deutch and Cahan's "My Best Friend's Girl" is awful and uncreative offensive comedy. However, I still wanted to see Dane Cook and Kate Hudson get together in spite of the crap. And this is not at all a good movie.
dane cook is awful
posted on 04 Aug 2009I am no Dane Cook fan. I rented My Best Friend's Girl to see Jason Biggs and Alec Baldwin. Great actors. This is a damn hard review to post because I could only make it through 10 minutes of this bomb. The opening was stupid beyond stupid. I knew I was supposed to laugh but thought WTF is this instead. Not even shots of Jack could get me through this. Dane Cook is more annoying than funny. The only funny TANK in a movie is FRANK THE TANK OLD SCHOOL. A comedy with that isn't funny is what this is. Leave this dud alone. Only way I see any body watching this is if they are getting paid or trapped in a college dorm unable to move in a drunken haze. It's easy to see how Dane Cook was in this. He will take any movie out there. I don't know how Kate Hudson agreed to appear.
A dumped guy hires his best friend to show the ex she should not have dumped the sap.
posted on 25 Jul 2009IMDb needs to add a zero to its rating system. I wish I could comment past the first 20 minutes or so, but alas I cannot. I was willing to try and watch this movie, as I like Kate Hudson, Jason Biggs somewhat, and Dane Cook (from what I saw of him in his role in the movie, Mr. Brooks), but since Cook talks so fast, and mumbles as well, I had to keep "rewinding" to try and find out just what the hooey the man had said. And even then I still could not get a lot of it. If not for the QUOTES section on this site I would have missed what a lot of people thought were funny lines. Some were okay, like when Tank says he's gay as he's watching the final scenes of the movie, Ghost, and has tears in his eyes, but from what I saw, little that it was, I hated it. Maybe if Cook was not so frenetic all of the time, as that just wore me out (even if I could get everything he said). I wish there was a button where we could slow dialogue down a bit so we can get it all, but since there is not, this one went back. Note to Cook: SLOW DOWN! This is not a race.
pretty funny
posted on 01 Jul 2009i thought this movie was pretty funny. i liked how he used the music in his car to get the girls to dislike him more pretty funny. some bad thing i thought were the stunts. like when he got thrown of the hotel he didn't even get thrown out he got pushed out but it look like he was gonna get thrown out. kinda cheap him doing his own stunts. i wasn't really looking forward to watch this movie but me n friends were just bored on a Friday night and ended up at the AMC theaters. i will refer people to watch the movie though. i wouldn't mind watching it again sine i watched it like half asleep. WOW i need 10 lines to finish this so im going to write this last part.
A very new romantic comedy and in a very good way
posted on 27 Jun 2009My Best Friend's Girl was a very unique and different romantic comedy. I think this movie honestly applies to guys a lot more than girls. Although both genders will like this movie. It had a ton of cursing and nudity and sex related topics. The movie did have a ton of laughs and was very funny. I did enjoy myself for the most part. I thought the movie kind of was slow starting and then got better. After all that though the last ten minutes of the movie was kind of weird and a little Corny. This movie in a good way is like no other romantic comedy movies I have seen recently. It is nice to have a change of pace for once. The rating that it got helped it a lot. The acting was alright. Dane Cook gives in the performance he always does. It is the same acting in all of his other movies. Dane Cook and Kate Hudson steel the show in this movie. They take mostly all of the screen time. Kate Hudson was pretty good. She was different and very funny which was a surprise. Overall a very good comedy movie and a great way to finally mix it up a little bit.
Careless fun.
posted on 25 Jun 2009The big screen very rarely ever treats its audiences to a romance where the 'asshole' of the story gets more than the simple role of causing friction and delay between the inevitable cathartic moments of bliss between the match-made-in-heaven. So what then does happen when the genre's example of the anti-Christ falls in love? What happens when his or her character actually rises above the clichés that so often dominates their two dimensional motives? The result is inevitably the anti-romcom. My Best Friend's girl is for all intents and purposes not the kind of a-typical romantic comedy affair that we are so often forced upon to see month after month of the year. Instead it presents immediately disagreeable, but in turn, real people to occupy its tale of romance. The result is one that will have audiences undeniably split; there will be those who will simply not be able to get by the ugly sides of this story's characters (particularly the lead male), and those who actually revel in a solid love story that doesn't try to be your charming friend all the way through. Essentially, the dominate colours here are not pastel pinks and blues, but blacks and greys. In real life, romance doesn't usually play out like it does in the movies, but with My Best Friend's Girl there's cause for dispute over this common belief. When looking through traditional romcom eyeglass, lead character Tank (Dane Cook) isn't the most likable or even compelling leading man. A Rude, callous, chauvinistic and manipulative womaniser, Tank is certainly more fit to be the story's antagonist male than its protagonist. For a living Tank works at a call centre for a company that sells air purifiers, and yet this isn't where the majority of his income comes from (and that's just as well, because he's terrible at that one). As a way to make some money on the side (lots of it) Tank works as a 'nightmare-rebounder'; when a guy gets chucked to the curb his partner, Tank chats her up, treats her to a lousy date and in turn the woman realises how naïve she was presumably being. Of course, this premise has problems; it's contrived and yet clever in a masochistic sort of way. Most enjoyable of all however is that it at least provides as a refreshing change of scenery in this current climate of lacklustre romantic comedies. After wave upon wave of gag-inducing melodrama without any hint of real depth purging themselves upon us this year, it is strangely uplifting to be treated to a story that runs on low standards, morals and characters. Love isn't perfect; in fact it can be down right ugly at times, and while My Best Friend's Girl isn't out to dramatise that theme, it does well at poking fun of it.Of course all of this simply wouldn't work if Tank himself was a lazy caricature of the worst-man-ever, but he isn't. Dane Cook does a great job here (and I am usually a detractor of his work) of giving Tank an under riding sense of good-heartedness that lies beneath all the callous games that he so eloquently plays with his one night stands. For all intents and purposes we shouldn't like Tank, and although many will not be able to see past that façade, I was definitely won over by Cook's charming and grounded portrayal. What works even more to the movie's ability to win the audiences over however is its ability to crack a chuckle or two. Sure, it goes without saying that much of the humour here is crass and gauche to the point where it may turn people even further away, but director Howard Deutch does a fine job of balancing his two core elements in ways that so many romantic comedies just don't ever get close to. That is not to say that the director gets everything right, because he doesn't. There are numerous problems arising throughout the feature, most notable of which exists between the lacking chemistry between Cook and his co-star Kate Hudson, but given the way in which Deutch presents Jordan Cahan's anti-romantic story, it's not something worth crying about. To close things off I will say that My Best Friend's Girl certainly isn't hilarious, nor is it tear-jerkingly sentimental; instead it exists as a light-hearted by nevertheless emotive tale of untraditional love blossoming from untraditional circumstances. In this vein the movie distances itself from the immediate residents within the somewhat bloated genre, presenting a refreshing polar opposite view of romance on the big screen in all its imperfections. The movie itself as a whole certainly reflects this central point as it is nowhere near perfection thanks to a superfluous and unnecessarily neat ending, but for the most part Deutch succeeds in delivering something quite unique and satisfying at the same time. What is most refreshing of all however is that the movie very rarely succumbs to holding your hand and trying to get you to like it. So often movies of this nature will pile desperate devices upon tired clichés to get you to feel something and yet Deutch doesn't seem to care. To put it simply then I guess, if you are a sucker for the average romcom where characters are prestine, witty, awkward and immediately lovable, then My Best Friend's Girl probably isn't for you. Instead I recommend this to those who prefer edgier romance and even edgier comedy; this isn't your average fare by any means, no, it's better than that; like its lead character, it's actually good, no-brainer, careless fun.
amazing
posted on 19 Jun 2009What a funny movie, don't let all of the high browed reviews lead you the wrong way, if you liked Knocked Up or Superbad, this movie is for you. The way that it pushes the barriers with language and content is simply hilarious, i couldn't stop laughing i loved this movie! Dane Cook has gotten a bad rap and everyone that doesn't like him only feels that way because everyone else in the nation cant stop laughing at him. Good Luck Chuck was a bad movie and being a Dane fanatic i was disappointed and was really anxious to see this movie. Dane delivered bigtime and he uses his own type of comedy as well, overall 10 out of 10 awesome movie.
funny, better than other dane movies
posted on 19 Jun 2009While I'm a big fan of Dane's standup among other things he's done such as voices on the crank yankers and the more serious roles(Mr.Brooks and spiral) I wasn't too thrilled with good luck chuck or worse yet employee of the month. I'll admit as much as I was looking forward to this movie for months I was at the same time hesitant. Glad I saw it because this movie got some good laughs out of me,worth seeing. Don't let those other movies stop you from seeing this one.I never saw any of movie Kate Hudson was in but I liked her in this film, wasn't expecting much hilarity from her but she was funny. My only gripe is the unnecessary nudity, but it's hard to come by a movie without that now a days.
Warm your soul at the fire of divine madness manifested as Dane Cook
posted on 17 Jun 2009This movie got bad reviews? Whatever. Some truly great films didn't make it more than a couple weeks in the theater (Mary Reilly and Matrix come to mind). It's a shame, though, because there are a LOT of bad comedies, and this isn't one of them. In fact, it's really, really funny with moments of genius, and only a few moments of weakness. I went to see it twice in the theater and will buy it as soon as it's out on DVD.I haven't laughed out loud that much at a movie since There's Something About Mary. There were many, many great scenes, but I'll only mention one. It wasn't a funny one; it was inspired and deep and beautiful, like the shot of Eric Stoltz on the train tracks at the beginning of Some Kind of Wonderful (you earned eternal respect for that film, Mr. Deutch). It's the, what? 30 seconds? 1 minute? when Tank decides to martyr himself out of love and self-loathing in slow motion to "When the Man Comes Around" by Johnny Cash. That minute is worth the cost of the ticket by itself, so if you add in the 10 or more belly-laughs, this movie's a deal! AND it's the best movie I've ever seen about sex addicts and their co's, which accounts for nearly every character. Excellent script (although too bad about the end - either something got cut out or no one noticed the hole in explaining Alexis's reversal). Looking forward to more from writer, Jordan Cahan.I didn't know anything about the film in advance - I saw it for two reasons: Howard Deutch and Dane Cook, although when I saw this, I didn't know Dane Cook did stand-up; I just thought he was great in Mr. Brooks and Dan in Real Life. Now that I've seen his comedy, his imagination, his, well, zest (cheesy word, but the right one), I understand why I left My Best Friend's Girl feeling like I'd seen a great film, even though I knew intellectually that, though it was good, it was no When Harry Met Sally. I felt like I'd seen a great film because it was well-written and well-directed ... and because Dane Cook has clearly been to a crossroads at midnight and made some kind of deal with the devil. He performs at a genius level. Kate Hudson, Jason Biggs, Lizzy Caplan: great cast! great performances! They looked like rag dolls next to Cook. If this was a horse race, Alec Baldwin was the only horse within a hundred yards of Cook's lead. Not that I feel strongly about Dane Cook's talent.Follow-up on Jan. 13: First time I've ever bought a movie new on the release date. It's that funny. Getting to watch it on DVD, I could finally read what Tank's shirt said: "Sold my soul for rock 'n roll; the devil made me do it." Details like that are one of the reasons I love this movie. They carried the angel/devil theme all the way through in just the right amount and in various ways, like the sunlight behind Alexis's head. That's good storytelling. This film is structured at a much higher level than most comedies. But oh, if only they'd left in that minute between Alexis and Ami at the end! It really matters. Okay, so, they blew the ending, and it COULD have been brilliant. They had the right idea - they just didn't pull it off. Bummer. But nobody's perfect. The music was great. Very important. Though exaggerated for humor, it all felt real to me - I know these people. I could relate. Example of great characterization: it's Saturday night. Alexis calls her roommate, Ami, and Ami claims she's at a club. Alexis tells her to put down Guitar Hero, and Ami comes out of the living room wearing the guitar, with a pack of cigs like a holster in her waistline. Hilarious character. And how can you not savor a film that makes a comedic nod to The Third Man? (Tank in doorway below Dusty in window during excellent song choice Separate Ways). Was that intentional or instinctual? I wonder, because I see lovely layering and symbolism throughout the film that are, sadly, undermined by the commentaries - I think the commentators needed some space from the production and the reviews before they spoke about the film. They don't give it the credit it deserves (in the parts I listened to). Afterall, how many comedies can you analyze at this level? Come on, cast, crew, producers, directors, etc, forget the critics: admit at least to yourselves that you made a really good film!
Silly story but very funny...
posted on 17 Jun 2009The story was very silly. It wasn't clever at all and the end was so classic. Although Jordan Cahan's screenplay had many really funny moments. This movie was so strange...On one hand, it was a silly story which deserves a 3/10,but on the other hand, it had so clever humor that made me laugh many times.I think that for comedy parts this movie deserves 9/10. Really strange...Jason Biggs was at his best on this sex comedy film. Dane Cook was a big surprise and Kate Hudson was pretty good, as always. I believe that if this movie had the same humor writing AND a nice story, it would be one of the best romantic-comedies ever. So the final score of this comedy is... 8/10

Careless?, Yes. Fun? NO!
posted on 09 Jun 2009I can handle my fair share of raunchy humor, but to do that, it at least needs to be funny. It's offensive, dull, and lacks any depth between the characters. I couldn't help but wonder why such a charming actress, Kate Hudson, would settle for such crap. It's suppose to be part of the storyline that the character Tank is an a-hole.But the dialog is so distasteful, and Dane Cook is so natural at being unlikeable, that you can never really recover from it. When it comes to that time in the movie your suppose to root for him.... "Get the girl!", I couldn't shake the cringe left on my face from him telling small children about sexually explicit acts, or him telling some dude to put "it" in his mouth...and that's just the tip of the this Lewd,Crude iceberg. If you want distasteful AND funny, go rent the 40 Year Old Virgin again and leave " My Best Friends Girl" as just a tune on your ipod.
stupid movie
posted on 30 May 2009i have nothing to say about this movie...don't waste your money by going out for this one...this movie doesn't impress me...not even one bit...neither its crude humor...i watched it thinking it will be a nice time pass...but i made a big mistake...foolish actors except Kate Hudson(she was the only one whom i liked in the movie who makes this stupid movie get a rating at least for this otherwise non-sensible film),and a foolish plot...all these call for a stupid movie...Dane Cook was so irritating..he was like..he irritated the hell out of me...Jason Biggs whom i liked in the lovely, crude and smart American pie series made a big mistake by doing this movie...he was like gaping all around throughout the movie like a stupid jerk...all in all this one is just a wannabe cool movie...it fails miserably.
We're all quoting the movie at every chance! LOL
posted on 22 May 2009I saw this twice the first day and again the next. I can't wait to buy it!This movie is so Dane Cook, and Kate Hudson was perfect in this. I also enjoyed seeing Lizzy Caplan again. We even watched all the DVD extras trying to milk out as much as we could. This movie was so fun to watch. The whole thing is so filled with one-liner insults that are fun to tell people. Even the plot was simple yet interesting. You can't expect much of a complicated plot twist in a silly comedy like this, and the whole story line seemed realistic. I love a quirky movie, and this was romance at its quirkiest. You can also learn a lot if you're paying attention.Great job, guys!!
cute, funny and romantic
posted on 14 May 2009no novelty, no surprises, but a very cute and funny movie.this movie is not annoying and stupid as some say, its the old romantic plot, with fresh jokes and a bit of spunk.Dane Cook is doing a surprisingly good job as the seemingly idiotic macho man yet in real life a sensitive guy. Kate is just Kate as you've seen her before. and Biggs just can't cut it as the loser, geeky best friend anymore... sorry Biggs, you're way too cute to be the second man again, its time for first. and of course some great Alec Baldwin moments.if you are up for a romantic yet funny flick, go see...

Absolutely hilarious!!! Don't miss it.
posted on 26 Aug 2009I disagree completely with some of the comments about My best friend's girl. I'm surprised people would not find it funny. This movie is HILARIOUS. Few movies are this funny nowadays. The first few minutes into the film I was not too impressed. I thought it would just be some brainless teenybopper flix. I almost turned it off. Glad I did't. I laughed my butt off throughout the whole film. This movie is a riot (!). If you're a wanna-be-prude it may be over the top. For some reason I found both the Wedding Crashers and The Sweetest Thing predictable and put-offish in some of the scenes. But this film is plain funny because Cook and Hudson is able to pull it off brilliantly in the midst of quick liners. The timing between jokes are great, the script is great, editing is great, the acting flows smooth between Cook/Hudson and the comments flow quick and free. The movie is about a guy (Dane Cook) who has perfected the art of being a total jerk. He is awful to the core. Crude, rude, nauseating. And why is he like this? Its fake. Its male psychology at its simplest. He gets hired by guys who have been dumped by their girlfriends, to try and get the girls to regret their decision realizing they did a mistake giving up a good guy.But everything turns around when Kate Hudson sees through his games, and beats him on it. Alec Baldwin is quite the nauseating pig in this movie. But his role has a purpose why Cook is the way he is. And its only fantasy, a film. It keeps up being hilarious all the way through. Kate Hudson does a great job being charming, as usual, even with quite the lip on her.Other movies I found funny was Pink Panther, Bringing down the house, French kiss, How to leave a guy in 10 days, The Jerk, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and some hilarious content from English (UK) TV programs.
