Gullibility.......

Having read some of the other comments (not all) there seem to be certain people who deserve what they get if they believe the hype. Make your own judgement of whether you want to see a film by your own instincts, not from what a two minute trailer is trying to sell you. If you think, 'Duh, they're telling us this is the scariest film ever so it must be' and are then astounded that it isn't then you deserve an axe in your head for stupidity. Of course it isn't the scariest film ever cos your own subjectivity will determine that. What it is is an unusually filmed, differently presented, tension filled drama. No problem with the acting as, assuming you go along with the premise of the film, they're supposed to be 'regular' people. The soundtrack moved away from the sudden orchestral bursts to make you jump and I thought it sustained itself throughout.
Go and see this if you're interested in films, don't bother if you want to feel the same way you did the time you saw your favourite horror film.

plausible, intelligent horror

this film never came to theaters in Australia, and thus became one of those 'straight to video' movies, which i generally don't trust. but on viewing i was honestly surprised. the main reason this low budget, no name horror film works is just that; the actors are all no names, which add to the films realism, and yet there performances are incredibly believable, especially Rex, the money desperate, paranoid computer geek. the main premise of course is that all of the shots in the film are from a fixed viewpoint, as if coming from cameras in the house filming the contestants every move. after an hour of this mundane, uninteresting camera work, you truly begin to forget what you are watching. it takes on a realism seen in very few movies, such as 'zero day'. form the most part, the film is a slow burn, which makes the audience wonder what is really going on. the ending, while not the most original ending, becomes the most appropriate, realistic, and therefore most scary ending possible. once you know the truth, the premise of this happening becomes very possible. i honestly have not felt this feeling of dread and fear from any movie since 'the thing'. it creates this sense of dread, for the film's premise is so plausible. watch it, you wont be disappointed

Shook me to my core

When my brother first told me about this little horror film he watched I thought that it would be kind of boring. However when I ordered a copy of it and watched it I realized that I've never been more wrong about anything in my life. The film is shot on video cameras and every scene makes you uncomfortable, as if someone is scratching a black board. The plot is simple: five strangers picked to live in a house for six months for a million dollars. If anyone leaves during the six months, everyone loses. The characters aren't the most developed. You have the wacky jerky guy, the slut, the hot guy, the mentally off guy, and the quiet girl. The first half of the film is a little boring. We are getting to know our characters and we are (in our minds)deciding who will be the one to lose it and kill the rest? Right? WRONG! When I watched the second half of the film and realized what was going on, that's when I started hiding under my hands and my heart was beating a million miles a minute. And even when I thought I knew what was going on, then it got even scarier. The cast are mostly unknowns but one familiar face was Bradley Cooper. Bradley Cooper is the kind of guy that can play a jerky frat guy (ala Wedding Crashers), a sexy chef (Kitchen Confidential) or a sadistic sicko (My little eye) and be great in every role.I suggest not listening to all the people who say they hate this movie and just watch it for yourself to decide. I watched it with the lights off and it made it a lot scarier. I love horror films but the horror films I adore are the ones that disturb me. To be shaken to my core by 90 minutes of film is awesome. I"m going to go watch it again...

This movie is about a group of people who become a cast for a web came based reality show. The are suppose to live in a house for six months in the middle of no where. The prize is a million dollars but only if no one leaves. OK let me say this movie was not really really horrible but pretty much horrible. There was one big redeeming message in this movie and thats way i gave it a 3 and that i; to not get yourself into something with out completely checking it out. People now days will do anything to gain a buck that they don't really look at how they are doing it why or even if its legal or not.The scary thing about this movie is it really hits home that there could be someone out there doing something like this or someone who will see this movie and get the same ideal. There are five main charters and each had there place. You had the good looking party animal and etc. the pot head bad boy, the shy freakish guy ( whom I could not figure out if i was sorry for him or just plain freaked out0, the stuck up snob, and the hot guy! I think the acting was pretty much well to do, but thats about it. The dialog was well gross much of the time way to much cursing and etc when other words could have taken its place and made the movie just as effective. The sex scene in the movie was way to long and way to loud even with the volume turned down. ( by he way i had to keep turning the channel that scene was about 5-8 Min's long)! with the ca-mer and all I was OK with it looking as if it really was from a web cam, but i also felt at times like i was watching another Blair witch ( not so good). They did not really keep up with the action to well and what action they did keep up with was not worth watching, i felt at times they focused on the wrong people during certain scenes. I think they could have added more to the movie to explain certain situations, but still not give away the whole ending at once. Over all it was OK for something I did not buy or rent1

Like the concept. But the plot just doesn't hang together

posted on 11 Jul 2009

Yes and No. I really like this whole concept of the reality show gone wrong – and a horror movie is always good in my book. But for all the bits I liked about the film, it didn't add up to a whole that I particularly liked. But yes there were some good bits. The idea of people in a house being films raises all interesting possibilities about how people react when they're isolated, and how they would cope if people started dieing, or they had to start killing each other… I thought "house of 9" was really good because the behaviour of the characters was very interesting, when they realised their host wanted them to kill each other. Here only one of the characters seems to have any idea that something dodgy is going on, and then when people start dieing its over so quickly, there isn't really time to watch the interactions of the people under stress and terror. Some of the build up is good though – like the whole child that killed his parent's thing coming back. However I just didn't believe the rest of the plot. When the guy goes on the web; if there was nothing on the internet about this, then what was the internet site at the beginning which they applied through – surely that would still be on the web, and there would have been at least some information about the show… that it had been canned… that it had disappeared. However the idea that they were being watched in secret by some group of rich clients with the intent on watching them all die was pretty scary.Anyway forget that, its ridiculous how this guy managed to wire a broken global satellite navigation system and get it to act as a modem to hook up to his computer. He also managed to try and hack into the website with some of the worlds most sophisticated hackers. I have a couple of questions here; why don't you send an email for help? Why don't you then email friends and family and find out if they know about the show? OR ASK THEM FOR HELP! And all this seemed to happen in a very short time span. I guess suspension of disbelief is required – but when its all about being a reality show gone wrong, which is meant to frighten with its reality type visuals… then when the plot is anything but, its just wrong. There's also this sequence about someone that visits, which just doesn't make any sense. The first murder that we know is a murder is very shocking. But once the secret is out I was really not scared any more. I knew that each person was going to die in turn, it was just waiting for it to happen, and thinking, man, just escape… leave the house! As I say I like the concept, and there are some good ideas, and some bits that were a little bit scary. But for me the plot didn't really hang together, they didn't keep us guessing long enough on who the killer was, and they didn't get the people scared enough when they realised people were dieing. And man if I'd had email access I would have sent some emails – and called in the army to get me outta there!!!!

No brainer

Pace is an important feature of any film and this one lacks it. The plot is not original and easy to see through. Hark back to "Driller Killer" and "The Texas chainsaw massacre" and throw in "Big Brother" then you have this film. I wanted to walk out after the first 30 mins. Other semi-good and good films about for you to not waste your time on this one.

Uneasy.

hey- i got a chance to check out this flick at the Midnite Madness showing at the Toronto Film Festival... i read the summary of the movie a few times and all you really get out of it is that its a horror movie about 6 kids in a house on an internet webcast. thats what its about, but doesnt to it justice. theres more to this movie, but if its given away it will take away from the experience of seeing it. i'm not gonna say anything except its damn scary, and has originality to it. try and see it in the theatre because the sound and music adds insanely to the uneasy vibe. dont sleep on this! 9/10.

It was a good idea and it did start to build into a slightly interesting film, then I guess the script and screen writers got bored. The movie falls flat back on "Boo, there's someone behind you oh it's your mate" and flash some flesh to keep them interested. Not much mind you.If you want a movie that's more scary than this, I'd suggest Shrek. That dragon was just sooooo scary :)

This was a great movie that thrived on simplicity

posted on 19 Jun 2009

I absolutely enjoyed this movie. In fact I think regardless of it's similarities to "The Blair Witch..."it was a better movie in comparison. Horror genre can never exceed anything more than a Boo. It's just not possible, the only way it can is if an Oscar winner and an extra hour is added to the film's length. Even then it's considered a thriller. This movie is straight forward introducing a simple plot-line that easily sucks anyone in. It's not crazy, it's a situation anyone can get into for money. 5 people coming together in an isolated area for an extended amount of time. Things happen out there. This movie follows through with a reasonable explanation at the end. Anyone who didn't like this movie just messed up guessing the killer. For once the killer is not terribly obvious! If you get it on DVD, it has up to par special features.

A great creepy thriller.

posted on 13 Jun 2009

Why all the bad comments? I don't understand it. True, most low budget thrillers are terrible. Serial killer knock offs without big name movie stars usually depend on gore effects, not characters, to keep us interested in what's going to happen next. This movie, though, is a tightly wound little scare piece that takes its time developing the characters and building suspense. The actors are terrific, the camera work unique and unsettling, and the direction always seems on target. The movie's main gimmick reads like it's going to be glib and possibly stupid, but the actors, and the director's ability to maintain a mood of foreboding, quickly dismisses any possible derision. I bought it and recommend it to anyone looking for a good, creepy thriller.

Don't be fooled by the trailer

posted on 14 May 2009

Those of you who saw the exciting trailer to this movie and are tempted to go and see the full film I have just two words......don't bother!!! All the action in this movie is contained in the trailer, the rest of the movie is just padding, which resulted in me nodding off at least twice. The plot is nothing more than cashing in on the current craze for reality TV programs. You get to know hardly anything about the characters which means you don't really care what happens to any of them. There are a lot of good "killer in the house" type movies around, but this is not one of them. I give it 2 out of 10 for effort, but overall it is a waste of 95 minutes.

'Big Brother' Meets 'The Blair Witch Project' in the Environment of 'The Shining'

posted on 08 May 2009

Three young men and two young women are participating in a reality show broadcasted through the Internet. The rules are very simple: they are in an isolated house, surrounded only by snow, and all of them must stay in the show for six months. In return, each of them would receive one million dollars. If any of them quits, the group does not receive the money. However, mysterious deaths happen and the survivals question whether they are part of a snuff film scheme. 'My Little Eye' is a non-original horror movie, indeed a collection of clichés, using the idea of the reality show 'Big Brother', the camera of 'The Blair Witch Project' and the environment of 'The Shining'. My vote is five.Title (Brazil): 'O Olho Que Tudo Vê' ('The Eye That Sees Everything')

It gave me a nightmare

*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*I saw this on cable the other day. I don't get spooked easily but this movie hit a nerve. After watching this, I had a dream that someone was standing in my bedroom doorway watching me. I couldn't get up or say anything. I was frozen on my bed. It was a male figure watching me but I couldn't make out a face. What does it all mean? Am I afraid of being watched when I'm vulnerable? Should I not watch late night horror movies?Five people are stuck in an isolated house while cameras watch them constantly. "My Little Eye" is filmed in the style of "The Blair Witch Project" except that static cameras film them as opposed to someone with a hand-held. It's all a contest to see if they can survive there for six months. The contest makers decide to throw a few obstacles their way so that they can watch them handle the pressure. And watch them argue. And watch them fight. And watch."My Little Eye" has a premise that I would normally find very annoying. I wasn't a huge fan of "The Blair Witch Project" so "My Little Eye" seemed like a movie with a tired gimmick. I was ready to change the channel after five minutes but decided to see what tricks it had up its sleeve. I'm glad I stuck around because this movie is genuinely creepy. It pushed a button in me. I think I have a fear of people watching me and wanting me to suffer. Little eyes watching me squirm. Watching and squirming. Squirming and watching. Squirm.

Blairwitch wannabe

posted on 19 Feb 2009

'My Little Eye' feels like a total rip-off from 'The Blairwitch Project' with a mix up of the famous TV-show 'Big Brother'. Honestly, I guess it can't get better than this with such a thin story, based on rip-off 2x. The whole thing starts out pretty weird, and a bit promising perhaps, but as the piece develops it just feels like a waste of time - but who's not interested in ending credit rolls right? So you'll continue to watch something that might be a 3/10 fully aware of it's impossibility to make you fall in love with it. A worthless piece of crap who's ain't worth the good cover it's been connected with - and I can't understand where the good voting points at IMDb came from. Sure I'm a fan of 'The Blairwitch Project', and I was trying to connect with the story - but it's hard and difficult in times like these, with a thin storyline who's even getting beat by newschool Disney. Stay away from this piece, as you will save about 1½ hours of your life to spend on better things than this!

As dull as watching a real reality programme

* Terrible * * Below Par * * * Not Bad * * * * Good * * * * * BrilliantWARNING *POSSIBLE SPOILERS*Five young strangers go to live in a house in the deep woods for six months.Isolated and miles away from no where their motivation is the fact that thay are taking part in a small scale reality programme.Cameras are strategically placed around the house and the prize for making it through the six months is a cool $1 million. There are of course rules to the game. The most important being that if one of the contestants leaves the confines of the house, everybody else immediately forfeits from gaining the prize sum.It becomes the ultimate test of the Quintets mental and emotional endurance.Particularly when one of the strangers, Danny's(Stephen O'Reilley) grandfather dies for instance and a lone wanderer comes by the house and leaves(not before making an impression on one of the twenty somethings). But most of all when tragedy strikes one of the five.Soon though the truth begins to unravel about the mysterious game the five players are taking part in and the enigmatic benefactors who constructed it.What was it that somebody said art imitating life.I can't remember. But in some way thats what 'My Little Eye' as it seems sets out to do.Of course the premise while simple and not bad might not be altogether far fetched.Sure there is no way that a major television station would allow what occurs in the movie to happen.Who knows what some sick mind out there would have in mind. That aside though is the film any good.In short I would have to say absolutely not.The premise while quite good is about one of the very few and I mean very few things that could be said for this complete waste of time and money(At least in my opinion). For what is about three thirds of the movie we the audience are mostly subjected to utter tedium as the movies five protaganists go about their business and get on each others and to some extent our nerves. To be quite honest I have had more enjoyment watching the likes of 'Big Brother'.The film makers through out in some way attempts to show the greed, egotism and selfishness of the characters as well as their clear shallowness. The inclusion of a lone hitch hiker called Bradley(Travis Patterson)who happens by the house(or so it wuld seem at first)only wakes you from your hypnotic state for about a minute before you're lulled in to that state by the sheer monotony of the movie. The fact that Bradly gets it on with one of the female contestants lifted my spirits mometarilly before I realised that it wasn't supposed to an adult blue movie.Although I suppose It's supposed to be a commentary made by director Marc Evans on the voyeurism of reality tv in today's society.By having little happen for most of the movie Evans I believe is trying to make his movie as close to the thing as possible as well as make a commentary perhaps in horror movies and the media in some way.But over all what we get is a dull snooze fest which is an hour and a half too long.In the movies favor it does carry great performances from a cast of fresh faced unknowns and the direction is eerily authentic. You do believe you're watching the real thing. But by the movies grisly and what is supposed to a shocking and telling denounment about reality television you can't care less what Evans is trying to say.In selfishly trying to make a point Evans has forgotten the one and most important thing of all when it comes to film making. To entertain and in the case of it's genre, chill and thrill.Making satire and putting across a message is one thing and is very worthy when done well. But when it becomes a labored, somewhat self indulgent piece of rubbish like this it just results in a piece of trash no one cares abouts. If in the end you want to see a creepy, tense horror flick I would recommend the likes of Wes Craven's 'Scream' or 'Final Destination 2'.On the other hand if you want to see a satirical movie on the likes of reality tv look no further than 'ED TV' or maybe even another earlier film that covers the media called 'Network'.Both are superior movies and put across their point a good deal better. Most importantly though, they're both entertaining.Robs Rating: *

No spoilers here... Great movie

I watched this on Cinemax - and I figured it was going to be another teen/early 20's slasher flick, set on a webcam reality show. But it's not. I mean it is, but it's not just "another" one. It's actually somewhat clever. No spoilers here (shame on the other review here for that.) It won't change your world, it won't make you shriek in fear - but it's entertaining, so long as you believe people are dumb...Like any horror flick, the people in the movie do a couple dumb things. Yeah, so what - it's a horror movie, not a masterpiece of film. So enjoy.

"Statistically strangers rarely kill strangers." I quite liked it.

My Little Eye has Emma (Laura Regan), Charlie (Jennifer Sky), Matt (Sean Cw Johnson), Danny (Stephen O'Reilly) & Rex (Kris Lemche) answer an advert on the internet that reads 'Wanted, 5 contestants for reality webcast & 6 months in a house for $1 million if anyone leaves, everyone loses!' & they become the chosen five. They are stuck in a large house in the middle of a snow covered forest, the house is rigged with cameras which capture their every move & every conversation for the subscribers of the website to see & listen to. At first things go alright but things soon take a sinister turn when Danny receives a letter which states his Granfather has died, Rex receives a gun, Emma finds a bloodstained hammer in bed next to her when she wakes up one morning & a skier named Travis Patterson (Bradley Cooper) mysteriously turns up out of nowhere. Is it all a game? As tensions grow the friends begin to fear for their very lives...This English, American, French & Canadian co-production was directed by Marc Evans & I thought it was a pretty good horror/thriller. The script by co-producer David Hilton takes it's inspiration & theme from modern pop culture, from reality TV shows such as the extremely popular Big Brother shown here in the UK to the fascination with the internet & the power it has. The fact that we are always being watched, the fact we live in a proverbial goldfish bowl where no aspect of our lives are truly secret & the desire for more extreme forms of entertainment. I liked the ideas in My Little Eye & I thought it was very effective at drawing the viewer in, it's quite gripping, engaging & overall fairly interesting to watch how things unfold. My Little Eye is also one of those films that you could almost put yourself in the position of any of the character's & try to think about how you personally would react in their situation. As a whole the film is quite open ended & not much exposition is given & not much is revealed about the what is happening. It takes itself 100% seriously, it moves along at a pretty good pace, the character's are convincing enough & most of what happens is at least feasible I suppose.Director Evans shoots himself in the foot with the film-making techniques he uses, from jerky hand-held camcorder shots just like The Blair Witch Project (1999) to shots & entire sequences seen in infra red night vision which ends up giving the film a cheap & annoying feel to it. On the other hand some of these techniques work well in the sense it gives My Little Eye a gritty, realistic almost documentary feel to it, unfortunately the negative aspect outweighs the positive in my opinion on this issue. There isn't much gore, a quick decapitation & that's it although there is a brutal scene of someone being suffocated with a plastic bag which would be a horrible way to die. The film has a nice atmosphere, good amounts of tension & a nice creepy feel to it.My Little Eye supposedly had a budget of about $3,000,000 & I must admit that sounds a lot of money for what eventually ended up on screen although curiously the 'Trivia' section on the IMDb states that My Little Eye was originally four hours long which is more than double it's length now so maybe that's where a lot of the extra money went. I don't think I could sit through a four hour version of this, what on Earth did the extra footage consist of? Anyway, I guess we'll never know so it doesn't matter. The acting was decent & naturalistic which is what the film was obviously needed. My Little Eye isn't a complete success that's for sure but there was enough here for me to like it. Having said that I think My Little Eye is one of those films that you will either love or hate & I doubt too many people will sit on the fence as it were. I liked it but it's far from perfect, still definitely worth a watch if you like your horror.

I saw this on HBO and I want my time back

posted on 05 Feb 2009

The sad part about "My Little Eye" is that the most intriguing aspect of it is revealed at the end - not that that's saying much considering what comes before it, but it still gave me some insight into what made this premise interesting enough to make a movie about it. Unfortunately, the ending is not worth five minutes of sitting through the rest of the movie. For the most part this is a played-out movie full of terrible dialogue, cliché-upon-cliché and poorly drawn-out, unlikable characters (the only one who will hold your attention is Rex since he is given the most depth, and the best dialogue and he uses it better than the other actors. Once again, none of this is saying much). This movie basically suffers from the classic slasher-movie symptom of trying to build suspense in a movie where you don't really care who dies and the threadbare mystery just barely keeps you in your seat ("Well I've watched this much, I guess I should see how it ends...") Don't waste your time.

Erm, did i miss something here?

*THIS REVIEW HAS LOTSA SPOLIERS IN IT!!!*Ok, i won't slash this movie, or give it a rave review, i would rather just forget about it which says more (hopefully) that those willing to rip it to shreds etc.I'm not gonna repeat the basic premise as i'm sure you all know it, 5 people, 1 house, 1 million dollars (each or shared? I never got that) and then some mad person starts hack/hack kill/killing all the people in the house *YAWN*I thought, (like most people) this movie might have some sort of glimmer of orginality (or however u spell it) we were rewarded by something hideously morphed into a wannabe "Blair Witch 3" which has just given birth to their offspring from "Big Brother" Shudders all around.I like the angles of some of the webcams, i like the fact that they used night vision, i liked the fact that the people were total no bodies and we wouldn't be suckered in by the promise of good acting. Note, i did not say for a second i liked the acting. These people are probably no-bodies because plain and simple, i don't think they can act that well? I'm sure it doesn't take much to gibber and whimper insanely but at least PLEASE try and have more than ONE emotional context? Grr, rather annoying to see the same person do the SAME THING over and over again... I mean, i didn't know these people, i never got to know them and already i got annoyed just by watching them!!!Ok, try and praise the movie now... Erm, i liked the fact that this movie TRIES (however poorly) to show people that there are risks no matter what u do online, and that there are some stupid and sick people out there with more money than wealth. There wasn't much that freaked me out, but the total and utter role reversal of the blonde guy when he says "can i kill her now?" made me jump up and scream "WHAT!!!" THAT was something totally unexpected on my behalf (i thought it was one of the girls) and from there on in... *snooze* (oh, and the way that he killed her was rather nasty wasn't it?)The bad points of this movie i don't want to dwell on, but the problem is that this movie doesn't have enough good points to cover for them! I would not call this movie "the scarest movie of 2002", i would call it one of the worst perhaps? But not the scariest, just wait for it to come out on Tv, its not worth going to the cinema to see this or even paying to rent it... If it comes on, just leave it on, it takes more energy to switch it off than it does to watch and follow this movie...*cries*
