Faber College has one frat house so disreputable it will take anyone. It has a second one full of white, anglo-saxon, rich young men who are so sanctimonious no one can stand them except Dean Wormer. The dean enlists the help of the second frat to get the boys of Delta House off campus. This film gives high-jinks and fooling around a bad name. P The dean's plan comes into play just before the homecoming parade to end all parades for all time.

ENTERTAINING, AND INSTRUCTIVE
posted on 31 Aug 2009I've never thought of finding a date by cross-indexing the young obituaries for neighbors and friends of the decedent...but these guys proved it works! Hilarious yet inspiring, drunken and perverted!. All will love this film. A true cinematic masterpiece - Shakespeares best work!
One to see over and over again!
posted on 31 Aug 2009Okay, okay. I know we're supposed to watch only sophisticated films that better us, but here's a guilty pleasure that can't be beat! It makes one long for the old irreverence of the National Lampoon! All you can wish in a movie about college life: toga parties, a wild city street scene, half-naked girls, great 1960's music, even a dead horse! John Belushi is outstanding! Donald Sutherland is excellent as a professor. (As one myself, I can fully sympathize with his sentiments regarding Milton and students' reactions to same.) Yup. This movie is crass and gross at times. Antisocially motivated. Appeals to coarse sentiments. But if you want uplift, get a Wonderbra!
The Best Ever
posted on 31 Aug 2009It doesn't get any better than this. Where was 'The House' when all those top 100 lists came out. Too many good scenes to count. Go on John - smash that guitar! Did you notice that the check out girl also appears as in Caddyshack as Maggie - the Irish girl who dates Danny Noonan. Bet you didn't know that!
It's Belushi at his best!
posted on 31 Aug 2009It's the movie that has become a classic. Even if the music is 35 years old it's the same basic situation, college kids partying. It's one of the movies that should never be remade, even if John Landis does direct it. And even 30 years from now they will still be talking about it.
Animal House is one of the best movies in the world.
posted on 31 Aug 2009The movie Animal House is one of the best movies ever made. It is a little raunchy at times but that is what makes it the best. John Belushi puts on a great performance and steals every scene that he is in. Every Belushi fan should have this movie on his or her top ten movies of all time list.
An all time classic!
posted on 31 Aug 2009Animal House is the best. Those who have gone to college have lived it. Who didn't know a Flounder?! Now on DVD, I had never before seen such a clear picture of the gang. On the collector's edition with widescreen, you get to see a lot more of the movie. However, I wish it also had a full screen format option so the picture could be bigger (like the standard DVD edition). The reunion footage is nice; gives you a good behind the scenes look at the making of it and you get to see how everyone aged over the years. Animal House is a must have addition to any video library.
A classic movie, but a poor transfer to the DVD media...
posted on 31 Aug 2009What can you say...classic Belushi in what was a hit comedy when it came out. However, the film did not make the jump to DVD without some problems. It appears the studio had a less than prestine master copy from which to master the disk- sound quality is OK at best, and there are several occasions of severe pixelization where the digital sampling of the analog movie somehow got hosed up. Still a good movie, just don't expect to use this one to show off how great DVD is as a home movie format....
totally pissah frat flick!
posted on 31 Aug 2009A can't-miss snapshot of '60s frat life in small towns across America. From the slow beginning of two freshman's college careers that quickly escalates into road trips (with Otis "My Man") to expulsion and then the classic near riot at the homecoming parade.
Gotta love it, it's a classic.
Hilarious look at 60's College Life with John Belushi
posted on 31 Aug 2009Popular culture satirists National Lampoon put together this bawdy look at 60's college life starring SNL's John Belushi. It was one of the most sucessful films of 1979 and helped establish Belushi in his first major screen role.
Classic hilarity includes "Food Fight!", Delta House pledge week, Dean Wermer's call for "Double Secret Probation", "Shama Lama Ding Dong" by Otis Day and the Knights and much more.
Eugene Oregon provides the scenic backdrop for the fictional Faber College. Some of the other name performers include Tim Matheson and Donald Sutherland. END

Great movie, terrible video
posted on 31 Aug 2009Unless you've spent the last 20 years on the far side of Mars you know the story of "Animal House". Suffice to say that this is one of the funniest movies of all time. Which is unfortunate because this is also one of the worst dvds I have ever seen. The picture is grainy, the brightness level changes almost continuously, and the sound is muddy at best. I realize that this is no "Citizen Kane", but you would think Universal would have taken more care with the release of such a popular movie. I have heard that the "special edition" of Animal House is better, but I'm not risking it. Rent this one before you buy.
