Johnny Depp looks so sexy!
posted on 30 Aug 2009I think Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Black Pearl is one of the best films ive ever seen. Johnny Depp is so funny and looks so sexy as Captin Jack Sparrow. Cant wait to see if there is a Pirates of the Carribean 2 because i enjoyed the first one so much. Hope Johnny Depp looks as nice in the second one!
Finally, a different kind of action packed movie!
posted on 28 Aug 2009I thought this was a really great movie. Johnny Depp deserves an Oscar for his performance of Captain Jack Sparrow!! He was awesome! Also, Orlando Bloom gave a great performance, as did the other characters. I can only hope that the rumors are true and a sequel is in the works. What a swashbuckling adventure and fun time!
It's been said already but...
posted on 28 Aug 2009... this really is the best action adventure film since "Raiders of the Lost Ark".Those were my words as I walked dazzled from the cinema last night, after 143 minutes had fairly flown by. This film has it all:* Eye candy for the boys (Keira Knightley), and the girls (Bloom, Depp, and Davenport).* Smart and snappy writing - very British humour, performed by well-known British character actors (and Johnny Depp, of course).* Direction and cinematography of the highest order. Even the late Sir David Lean would be in love with some of the compositions and camera moves.* Exceptional effects work. "The Hulk" was meant to be ILM's showcase this summer - but the work here simply blows the "Hairy Shrek" away. And as I've already mentioned, it sustains interest for nearly two and a half hours. The action sequences in the final act don't drag at all, by virtue of cross cutting between a number of interlinking story strands.I can't understand why anyone would say it went on too long, because it was such a phenomenal trip.In closing. I'm an enormous Spielberg fan - but I'd love to see Verbinski helm Indy IV....
It's amazing!
posted on 28 Aug 2009With "The Ring" Gore Verbinski showed that he is a director, who understand to create atmosphere. In "Pirates of the Caribbean" we see, that he's able to direct Hollywood blockbuster movies at its best! An effect and action hit with atmosphere, many colors and an unbelievable perfect acting Johnny Depp in his best role ever, which will sure bring him an oscar nomination.Gore Verbinski + Jerry Bruckheimer... a mixture that fascinates! This movie makes fun and that not too lastly because the score. Klaus Badelt (discovered by "The Ring" composer Hans Zimmer) has written a loud exciting action score, that in connection with this film let nobody's adrenalin level down!
Pirates: one of the best movies
posted on 28 Aug 2009I love this movie. First of all, I love pirates, which means anything that has to do with pirates, I love. So, obviously I would like this, but, besides that, this movie has romance, action, adventure, a witty rum-obsessed captain (Jack), a brave hero (Will), and a not so distressed damsel (Elizabeth). There are also bad guys of course (Captain Barbosa), the undead skeleton pirates that Jack, Will, and Elizabeth have to defeat.Overall this film is a wonderful pirate movie that I love, but I wouldn't recommend watching the other two, although they somewhat summed up the story, they were not as good as the first one, which above all, has to be the best out of the three. So, as I said, it is a great movie that I give 10 out of 10.
Orlando is the best and Johnny Depp too
posted on 26 Aug 2009I just saw the movie a few hours ago and I just loved it.I mean the actors are great and so is the music and the set.The story is also fantastic.Johnny Depp was as Captain Jack Sparrow the funniest actor. He made the movie really funny.Orlando "Will Turner" Bloom was even handsomer then in the LOTR-movies.I almost drowned in his beautiful dark eyes.I would not mind to be in Keira Knightley's place when he kissed her,not at all.Actually I wondered how the Black Pearl could still sail:the sails were full with holes and the trunk was totally broken and still it did not sink. The rotten skeletons were terrifying. They looked very real to me.Geoffrey Rush was great as "captain" of the Black Pearl,Barbossa. In a word the movie was the best I've ever seen.
Johnny Depp at his best
posted on 26 Aug 2009Pirates of the Caribbean - a two hour advertisment for a disney ride? - anything but. The story follows Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and young blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) as they sail across the Caribbean to save the governor's daughter Elizabeth Swann (Kiera Knightley) from the termination of a curse which has left the crew of the Black Pearl in limbo. The swordfights are not very epic, but the special effects are amazing. All of the actors and actresses are amazing in this movie, but Johnny Depp steals the show. His portrayal of Capt. Jack Sparrow is truly unique. I loved this movie for many reasons, one of which is because Disney went against the grain, and made its first PG-13 movie. Also, the pirates aren't exactly "Hollywood bucaneers." You wont catch and peg legs, eye patches, or pieces of eight in this movie. One of Disney's best.
Very...interesting.
posted on 22 Aug 2009I thought that Orlando Bloom, while a complete heart-throb, did not compliment this movie. At many parts, he seemed very strained and almost as though he was having trouble playing the part. Honestly, I think they should have eliminated him completely. The rest of the cast, I thought, did an amazing job and the movie turned out to be...very nice. Slight language, but an all-around good movie. However, don't bring young children to the movie. I had to sit for 2 1/2 hours listening to children screaming in fright at the sudden appearance of ghostly pirates...and it was not an enjoyable experience.
Pirate flick done well, but without Depp who is to say?
posted on 22 Aug 2009I have to say, this is one of the best movies I have seen all year. I would give it a 9 out of 10, 10 being saved for the best of the best. However, this is mainly based on Johnny Depp's character, Jack Sparrow. If this character was deleted (with, of course, an appropriate change in plot), or an actor played Jack Sparrow badly, I would say it I would give it a 4 or 5. Jack Sparrow was the cornerstone of this movie. When there was a seen without Johnny Depp, I am obligated to say that he was sorely missed. All in all i think this was a special treat for all pirate lovers such as myself.
Movie of the year... so far!
posted on 22 Aug 2009This was truly a joyful and entertaining movie that from my point of view was most likely this years worth a watch!!The curse of Cortez is set on the pirate ship crew by the name of Black Pearl. In order to remove the curse they have to find the missing gold piece they had stolen and to spill the blood of a dead pirate after they retrieve the last piece. Unfortunately the missing piece is in the hands of the beautiful Elizabeth Swann, a governor's daughter in love with the local blacksmith and swordsman Will Turner. When Elizabeth is kidnapped by the crew of the Black Pearl, Will Turner accepts the help of the low-life pirate Jack Sparrow, but little does Will know about the true story of Jack Sparrow, as they sail after the Black Pearl. We were very hesitant to see this movie in the beginning, but after reading the reviews we decided to give it a chance and we were surprised and in awe of the wonderful story it contained. The movie has it all, action, adventure, humour and a wonderful cast. Orlando Bloom makes a wonderful appearance outside of his superb portrayal of Legolas in Lord of the Rings as Will Turner, the young man, who knows so little about his family. Johnny Depp was quite surprisingly brilliant as well as the strange, wigged out and 2-faced pirate Captain Jack Sparrow and least of all the beautiful Keira Knightley, who portrayed Elizabeth Swann is a definitely rising star in the chain of Hollywood actresses! I rate this 10 out of 10 and then some!
Lotsa fun!
posted on 20 Aug 2009I was a little worried that this movie was going too be too cute or too silly etc. It was none of that - just good fun without thinking too much. The plot was clear enough to follow and everyone did an admirable job in their roles. If you just want to go to the movies to have some fun and not get all caught up in social mores, plot twists, and the ..intention of the director (blah blah blah) then this is a great movie to see - I think I'll see it again in a week or two when the crowds clear out.
Really good fun doesn't take itself too seriously and is played to perfection by a wonderful Depp
posted on 20 Aug 2009Sailing with her father as a girl, Elizabeth Swann, is on board when the military ship comes across a wreck from which they rescue only a young boy, Will Turner. Elizabeth hides the boy's medallion in order to hide the fact that he is a pirate, she also thinks she sees the mysterious ship The Black Pearl. Years later Elizabeth is being wooed by officers while Will is a blacksmith in her father's service. When her medallion calls out to another force, it brings the crew of the Pearl to the bay in search of the gold. Elizabeth is kidnapped and Will resolves to go after her. He turns to the only man he knows who knows the black pearl incarcerated pirate Captain Jack Sparrow. However how can you trust a pirate's word?I'll be honest and say that I didn't want to see this film I had been totally turned off by the trailer. The one attempt at humour in the trailer is that awful `try wearing a corset' line, it didn't get a laugh in the film or on the trailer. However I did go and see it and, after Hulk and Matrix, I was very glad I did. The plot is pretty enjoyable allowing for lots of fights but also enough twists and turns to hold the interest. It doesn't all make total sense but, like the ride it is based on, the film moves on before you have time to think too hard about anything.Unlike those other blockbusters I mentioned, POTC doesn't take itself too seriously. It doesn't make fun of itself either, but it does have it's tongue in it's cheek the whole time. This is seen in the vein of gentle humour that runs through it in the dialogue, action and characters the film is basically having fun so it is easy for the audience to get with it too.As every other reviewer on earth has said, the biggest strength of the film is Depp's Captain Jack. Playing him like a drugged out rock star who clings to his half-fame like a life raft, Depp wrings so much humour out of every line, every scene and every little thing he does (`but why is the rum on fire?' being my favourite line). It is a performance that could have been awful but he pitches it just perfectly and stops the film ever becoming anything less than fun. The only downside of his character (who makes his appearance on a ship revealed to be a tiny, sinking boat) is that the film sags a little when he is off screen for longer than 5 minutes.Bloom and Knightly carry the film's more serious core and thus have a less glorious job. Both do well however and are good if not quite stars certainly I was surprised to see Knightly with such a big role in a big film. Rush enjoys himself as Barbossa and the crew also have fun. The effects are used just as they should always be used to compliment the film rather than be the raison d'etre! The effects are good without replacing plot or characters they are well blended into the flow so never bring the film to a halt by their use (although wine flowing through and out of Barbossa is pretty impressive).Overall I enjoyed this film a great deal. Sure it is not a classic film or a perfect one, but it does exactly what a summer film should be entertain.
It doesn't take itself too seriously and moves a long at a fair pace without ever lapsing into impatient editing or flashy visuals. Having said that, if Depp was not onboard the film would be much the lesser. His exaggerated performance enhances the tongue in cheek feel to the film and makes it a much funnier, livelier and all round fun experience.
Best Movie Ever!!!
posted on 20 Aug 2009This is my favorite Disney movie ever. I've watched it nearly one hundred times and haven't gotten sick of it yet. Possibly because Johnny Depp is so hot that it's impossible to get tired of watching it. Also, I have never seen a movie with so many twists and turns in the plot. The plot was extremely well thought out. I am interested though to see if the second Pirates of the Caribean movie can match up to the first. I give this movie an 11 out of 10 because Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow was just so beleiveable and incredible. No one,I mean no one could have played Jack Sparrow as good as Depp did.( he was made for that role) He is just such an accomplished actor that has a natural talent in acting. Johnny won the screen actors guild award for this movie and was nominated for a golden globe and an oscar. Although he lost out to Bill Murry and Sean Penn he will always be number one in my heart. Because of this movie I became an even bigger fan of Disney and gained more respect for Disney. I await the release of the sequil!!!
Here's Johnny!!!
posted on 18 Aug 2009It's all about Johnny Depp. One of the very few summer blockbuster performances that warrants serious Oscar consideration. Like Edward Scissorhands, Depp was born to play Jack Sparrow. Amazing art direction, sets, costumes, props and special effects. Good score too. This film should nab a few nominations in those areas as well. Definitely worth the price of admission.
Pure exciting fun
posted on 16 Aug 2009When I went to see this movie, I was expecting so fun summer action film. I got a whole lot more. This movie is full or great characters and a good plot. Johnny Depp should win an award for his portayl of Cpt. Jack Sparrow. If he wasn't in this movie, it would just suck. Keira Knightley is very hot and easy on the eyes and she is a bright talent that has a big future in the buisness. This is probably the best movie of the summer.
The definition of entertainment
posted on 12 Aug 2009I came out of this film grinning to the point of tears. I wish more movies of this type were as fun. Thats a word I love using about films, fun; I can't remember the last time I had so much fun in the theater!! And all of you who loved this film out there: BUY THE SOUNDTRACK NOW!! It,s absolutely fantastic.
Overrated, overlong, but mercifully it is over
posted on 12 Aug 2009The movie really dragged on. The core of the movie plot was somewhat intriguing but the execution was did not work. The movie was not funny enough to be a comedy; not realistic enough to be gripping; not exciting enough to stop you from squirming in your seat. The comedy was too extensive to be comic relief and their was not enough drama to need to be relieved. Johnny Depp, a fine actor, was annoying as the almost drunk sounding lead. More swishy than swash buckling.
Highly recommended
posted on 10 Aug 2009This movie was fantastic! I highly recommend it. I went in not knowing what it was about, and I came out totally awed. Johnny Depp gives a wonderful performance and leaves you wanting more. This is definitely the treasure of the summer.Pirates was full of action and great comedy jokes/actions. Johnny Depp appears to steal the show, but the other three main cast members (Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley) did fanastic as well. If you haven't seen it already, I suggest you go now!!
Sword swashing adventure and plenty of humor
posted on 08 Aug 2009Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean is not your usual sappy makeover of a theme park ride, no it's much much more. Pirates tells the tale of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and the blacksmith Turner (Orlando Bloom) in thier attempts to rescue Turner's love Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) from the lawless pirates lead by Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). The special effects are excellent and the plot is simple enough to follow along nicely. Sword fighting, cannon booming, and pirate snarling are just a few tacts used in the fighting scenes. Longer than it had to be (cough...like the Hulk) but has enough humor to get you your moneys worth. Rush is great as the demented Barbossa, as is Bloom as the heroine Turner. The show belongs mainly to Depp, with his drunk-slurry Sparrow he manages to conjure up a hilarious performance as if he were preparing for Fear and Loathing 2.

Worth every shilling
posted on 30 Aug 2009I've seen it twice this week and loved it. It's a very funny, entertaining movie. If you want to have some fun, enjoy Depp, beautiful locations, interesting attire and ships, this is your movie!Stay through the credits and drink up me hearties, yo ho!
