Great movie, why all the hate against Boll???

posted on 20 Aug 2009

I really loved this movie and took time to register to write this because I can't understand why there is a mob going against this movie. It's not the best movie ever done, but it is really solid, has lots of great sets, good effects and I expected something really trashy or low-budget, but this movie was muuuuch better than that and can go well along other good movies technology-wise. Also the actors were very good, especially Zack Ward!Regarding the style of humor: Watch the first five minutes on youtube(with the two terrorist pilots) and their excuse that they couldn't make it earlier because of all the security and if you like cynical humor, this is the movie for you!I also liked that the movie picked up many ideas from the game very well and that everything that was added completely fit to the way the game would have done it. Of course there were some ideas in the game that were not included (like "Burn all books, save the trees" or the video-game-haters or the butchers of hillbillies). This was a much better movie adaption than Doom!

It's Team America meets Fahrenheit 9/11 !!!

The movie Postal is probably as important as Bowling for Columbine or even An Inconvenient Truth.Based on a little-known video game of the same name, it aims a little bit higher than director's Uwe Boll previous video game adaptations. Forget what the media has already said about the movie (without even seeing it) and go see this movie very open-minded. You'll need to be, because this movie goes places no one as ever dared to go. And that's for the best.Part of an ever-growing list of crass comedies (American Pie, Van Wilder, etc.), the humor used in this satire is rooted deep in bad taste and on a few occasions reaches the point of uncomfortable (children getting shot). It is alarmingly violent, contains the foulest language possible, parodies almost every religion and even ridicules the concept of racism by treating all humanity as racists. It is by far the utmost politically incorrect movie I ever saw.And there resides all its charm. Going to such extremes is indisputably going to deserve an NC-17 rating, therefore exposing the MPAA rating system as one of so many corrupt "government-approved" organizations. By unapologetically bashing every race, religion, political affiliation, social and financial classes, the movie and its writer-director, Uwe Boll in surprising form, confronts the viewer to re-evaluate all of our preconceived ideas and values. One of its direst victims is the media itself, condemning it for most of our society's problems. Using the same clichés and excessive violence it is denouncing, it's quite unsettling that we need those in order to let the film (and its fiery message) grab our attention. Definitely food for thought.Although it is far for pitch-perfect (except for the spectacular performance by star Zack Ward who is) and probably ten minutes too long, Postal is laugh out loud funny, the biggest riot since the afore-mentioned Team America. The latter was much more subtle but not much has changed in our society since. It will undoubtedly take a few more of these in-your-face, question-everything, status-quo-shattering movies to leave a mark on people as a whole, but it's one less to go. That's what I call a success, no matter how small it is.

Fun fun fun

Is this movie stupid? Well, yes, but if you look at the tag line for it, it says exactly that. It knows it's stupid, mindless and all that. But you know what? It doesn't care! And if you don't care while watching it, you'll have a groovy time. This is what Uwe Boll should do more of IMO. House of the Dead was some good mindless fun (in a different way of course), Alone in the Dark and Bloodrayne could have been better, but felt too fast paced and Seed was just too depressing. But this movie left me with a grin on my face from its endless satire! Still it's not for everyone, as most of the jokes are too offensive for some (a 9/11 joke and kids being killed), but man after watching this I have to say Uwe's got some balls (which do get shot of in his cameo. Awesome cameo BTW). The only thing I think he could have left out was the full frontal shot of Dave Foley. Yyyyeah, not necessary man.So to put it in simple terms, IMO Boll's best yet. I know it isn't saying much, but if you're in the mood for some good ol' satire, I'd totally recommend this.

A Bollian journey into Tromaville Territory

posted on 02 Aug 2009

Uwe Boll's best Movie. Better than "You Don't Mess with the Zohan". Neither of those statements are saying particularly much, but to say the least, this movie is actually worth watching. Postal is essentially an absurdist farce comprised of characters designed to be caricatures of the worst parts of humanity. Assuming this was not some cosmic coincidence whereby Uwe Boll managed to write and direct a movie that actually entertains it's alleged target audience, I feel confident in saying that this movie actually hits it's mark. Knowing the spirit and tone of the source material, this is actually a pretty decent video game adaptation. The movie is essentially a Bollian journey into Tromaville territory: from the crass socio-political commentary, through the excessive violence, coarse language, gratuitous full frontal Dave Foley nudity, right down to the self deprecating director cameo. It's intentionally offensive to everyone. Despite itself, on some level this movie works. It's weird that I seem to only have good things to say about this movie, seeing as it is not a good movie... but, dare I say, it's not bad either. 5/10

Uwe Boll, Comic Genius

posted on 02 Aug 2009

While most blockbuster comedies bog you down with one or two big names, dominating screen time and generally reducing the rest of the cast to walking trees to bounce jokes off of, Postal presents an ensemble cast that make sense as parts of an insane, twisted little planet and later come together for moments that are never forced or contrived. There were times in this film when I couldn't believe how creative the comedic writing was so I just remained there jaw agape, eyes glued to the screen, and laughing my ass off every five minutes. Would it shock you to know that not only did Uwe Boll direct this film, but he wrote it as well??!! Uwe Boll, comic genius. Get used to it. Postal is the bloody, unflinching, uproarious film most Troma movies wish they could be. Well acted, well written, and 100% fun. Ladies and gentlemen, start talking. Uwe Boll made the funniest movie I've seen all year. Believe it.

Don't watch this movie if you're not a fan of the game.

This movie was an awesome re-make of the game. The game had barely any plot line, gratuitous indiscriminate killing, much crude language, vulgar characters, and midgets. This movie delivers and more. If you have the mentality or maturity of a teenager, this is your film. Aside from the women, the guns, the drugs, the explosions, the violence, and the obscene moments, this movie pushes the limits of being too much for some. The plot line is you follow The Postal Dude, and you watch his journey venturing through a militia of armed terrorists, religious cults, corrupt cops, and beautiful armed women, all to help his Uncle Dave try to steal Krotchy dolls to sell. Uwe Boll him self even makes a cameo in this movie.(And dies for all of you Boll haters that might like to see that.) This is definitely not the movie to show to your kids, but it is a kind of movie that you would sit down with your buddies with and have a beer to. Bottom line for me loving all of these things in the movie and the game it self, I give it a 10/10.

Boll is right on the ball with an excellent movie!

I have not played the postal games a lot only demos but i have to say that this is a really good movie. The movie is offensive to every one you care to mention (Terrorists, Muslims, Americans, Germans all get riped on) but it is done in a rather clever way so only stupid people would get offended. The movie swings back and forwards a bit and it is not perfect all the way but the ending is better than that in the game Portal! Yes this movie is defiantly a must see, when boll says "i hate video games" i rly loled. This is the best movie to come out in at least 3 years. It's fun, entertaining and crazy and the movie has more in common with more Asian movies i have seen and not a classic Hollywood style.puck America, puck humanity (and puck the pucking language filters) and long live Postal!

Uwe Boll strikes back with Postal!

posted on 09 Jul 2009

It seems to me that in the last couple years its become fashionable for fans and critics alike to bash on filmmaker Uwe Boll and his films. Now, While I admit that many of Mr. Bolls films are not artistic masterpieces, I can hardly call him the "Ed Wood" of our time. Also, the fact that many of Mr. Boll's films go on to make a nice profit, even while being raped by critics seems to be forgotten. Which leads me to Postal. A great, funny, outrageous send up of world (mostly American) culture, politics, society and paranoia..I caught this at the It Came From Lake Michigan Film Fest and laughed my ass off. Mr. Boll has really made a great, fun, entertaining movie for those of us who can laugh at ourselves. After years of being based by fans and critics alike, except in the boxing ring, it seems the Mr. Boll has taken all of his anger, and frustration at his critics and channeled it back into his movie making. Whats even more impressive is the fact the Uwe Boll wrote and directed this film and his new horror film SEED at the same time. If you feel the need to be politically correct, stay away...everyone else go and support this film and get off the "bash Uwe" wagon.

Saw it 8.22.07 in LA screening

posted on 27 Jun 2009

The opening is the scene where some feel Uwe is making fun of 9/11. This scene makes fun of Muslim radicals and is hilarious as they realize their own stupidity. It does not make fun of 9/11 in any way. What I truly love is that he isn't afraid of making fun of muslims as many are. He reminded us of the theatre in Berlin that canceled a play that some deemed offensive to muslims. This is wrong. We shouldn't live in a culture of fear. News organizations seem to be fearful of stepping on those Islamic toes in order to avoid the same response as the Dutch cartoons got.The entire film seems to be making fun of a lot of things and is an equal opportunity offender. Uwe makes fun of Americans, Germans, Muslims, the list goes on.This film seems to be breaking a lot of Hollywood rules. As Uwe said before the screening, why is it that you can't show a breast on TV, but, you can show people being cut up to pieces? It's loosely based on the game Postal and it's done as a cartoon with live actors instead of animation.See it for yourself and listen to the political commentary.

why the hate?

i don't get it, boll finally has done a good movie and everybody still hates it! this movie is funny as hell and has so much cool and sick moments. boll show's of how sick and twisted our world is and he points with the finger on everything thats wrong with the world and the u.s.a! yes the humor is kind of harsh and childish...but i don't care. i just had a blast. see this movie with a bunch of buddies and a lot of beer and you will have a lot of fun and possibly a better time then watching any of this lame and soulless Hollywood blockbuster flicks. when it comes to boll movies i often think people here give ratings without ever have seen the movie!sorry for the bad English, i am from Germany.....yes the same country that uwe comes from!

Dave Foley's Most Hilarious Role Yet!

posted on 15 Jun 2009

Dave Foley is the new King of comedy! OMG! Dave Foley had me in tears laughing so hard! I don't know all the details about who made this movie or the reasons behind all the hatred towards him and I don't really care because I'm an adult and I can think for myself. Following the crowd is so childish, all I know is that I never laughed so hard at a movie in my life! Dave Foley cracks me up so bad, even if you hate the film makers please support Dave Foley, this movie proves that he deserves to be on top! He's back and better then ever! Don't get me wrong, News Radio was pretty damn funny, but I always felt he was kind of going downhill since Kids in the Hall, but he's back now and better then ever! This time he's Rated-R and without any restrictions or limitations to what he can say or do and believe me, he does it all! This proves once and for all that Dave Foley is a comedic force to be reckoned with! Postal is a very edgy and hilarious adult movie, I almost puked my guts out laughing so hard! I couldn't believe it, I kept saying out loud between my uncontrollable laughing fits, "G#@damn this is funny!" The entire audience was absolutely going crazy, I've never in my life seen an audience react like this! It's by far the best time I've ever had in a theater! We needed a movie like this so badly! In a time of played-out and extremely lame and tired-some Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson/Matthew McConeghay snore-fest, Dave Foley returns to show the world of comedy who the true king is! If we don't support Dave by seeing this, that's all we're gonna have left, he may not get another role and that would be such a shame because he is pure genius in this move! The true King of comedy, I cannot stress that enough to you! He deserves to be on top, but he needs our support! We love you Dave! DO NOT miss this movie! 10/10!

Another 4 / 10 Movie.

It was not that good, but it was way more better than i thought it would be. "Postal" did have some really funny scenes but overall it's kind of garbage, like all of the movies Uwe Boll has made. I was really tired when i was watching this though, so that might be one of the reasons why the movie made me laugh real hard sometimes.Like already somebody said this is Uwe Boll's best movie for shore, but overall it just isn't that great.Fans of the original game like myself will be having a laugh when watching this movie, that's guaranteed. Since the original game is about "stupid missions" and shooting everything, the movie copies the game a lot (and that's good if you watched this movie because you have played the game.)

I never guessed I would be saying this... but this movie was awesome.

I don't think the current IMDb score is justified... I know there is a lot of Uwe Boll haters out there and to be honest seeing him in this movie made my blood boil also.I can't really find anything wrong with this movie to me its a decent adaptation from the game... Not perfect but still a lot better than I expected. If you liked the randomness, insanity and weirdness of the game's, I think you might actually enjoy this movie. There's a lot of things I would have done differently but still it's not a complete f*ck up that you usually expect from a Boll movie (well the movie in general is one big insane f*ck up :).If you can just put aside all the hatred you have collected for Mr. Boll during the years of raping various game franchises and watch the movie with an open mind it comes out as a decent movie based on the Postal franchise. All in all, I actually can recommend this movie to the games' fans. Never thought I actually would say that but thats what it is.

Uwe Boll succeeds ...

posted on 09 Jun 2009

... Uwe Boll once said that he wrote the Postal script just to "piss off everyone" and that's exactly what Postal is all about.I'll give this movie a 10 not because it's that good but because it's a simple case of just imagine what some close minded people would write about this film. It's an example of how to really really upset people over something as trivial as a movie. Also Uwe Boll shows a lot of humor when he declares in the movie that his movies are made possible and financed with "Nazi gold". This is pure comedy - maybe not the funny but certainly the offensive one.So, the director/writer wanted to offend ("piss off") everyone... and this movie does exactly that.I don't think you'll laugh very much in the movie, but when I went in the cinema, the reactions of some people in the audience alone was worth the whole thing.Postal is a movie pretty much cooked with the same recipe as Borat. If you like strange absurd moments in movies and rather laugh at unexpected (and gross) situations - watch it.

adaptation of the popular video game.

One of the funniest films in years. Forget everything you have ever heard about Uwe Boll. He has found his niche. Scathing social commentary combined with a mix of the most outrageous adult humor makes this film the must-see event of the year. It was screened at the Fantasia film festival in Montreal to a sold out crowd and in the presence of the director Who received a standing ovation. The film dares to say what most people really think and through humor points out the very sad state of affairs in America today. Boll intentionally breaks every taboo in film-making as he takes on every possible religious, racial and sexual group you can think of. This is both an entertaining and socially important film. Those with narrow minds or ultra conservative viewpoints may take offense, but that's a good thing.

Great Movie

I never thought i would see a good Uwe Boll movie. i was wrong! this movie is brilliant! it has all the game has and even more. it is provoking, funny and not the least bit boring all the time and the end is absolute epic. the actors made a good job too. i would like to see postal 2 in the cinemas one day.OK alone in the dark was crap, bloodrayne too and bloodrayne 2 too and alone in the dark 2 too and far cry too and this dungeon siege movie too and house of the dead too but this movie gives uwe boll the ultimate permission to make more movies. maybe he just sucks at making horror movies. seriously this movie was awesome! Great movie!

An exercise in thrash movie-making - best video game adaptation ever

posted on 26 May 2009

I saw the world premiere at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal. Seriously, this movie blows away anything ever done by Boll. It's the most violent, disgusting, offensive, thrash movie I've ever seen. I give the movie 9 stars because it was exactly what Boll was intending, and it's a complete success. Go home Takashi Miike! To sum up, it's probably the best video game to movie adaptation ever made. It perfectly captured the spirit of the video game, and then added more, always more, to create such excess that you can't help but laugh during the whole thing.People criticizing the movie because it's violent, disgusting and offensive shouldn't comment on it - they obviously missed the point.

Can't even call this a movie.

posted on 16 May 2009

The film used was high quality. That's where the quality ends. Bad acting, dialog, script, editing, music ... Everything! There are worse movies out there, but they are rare no-budget features shot by people on drugs. The movie tries very hard to shock, but unfortunately doesn't know anything about comedy. If you laugh because someone said a bad word, then perhaps this movie would be for you. Other people are going to actually want a joke.Edgy humor can be very funny, but it has to be humor. Just killing a kid isn't funny. The DVD has Boll boxing a 17 year old kid and pounding the hell out of him. That's the extent of class for this feature.

Miracles Do Occur

Ladies and Gentleman, Uwe Boll has actually made a movie that I did not turn off after the first 20 minutes! And on top of that, Postal kept me entertained for the entire running time AND even gave me a few good laughs. Its interesting to me that most of Uwe's movies have been inspired by horror video games (e.g. Alone in the Dark) when in actuality he seems more comfortable with goofiness--otherwise why in the hell would he have cast Matt Lillard in In the Name of the King? Postal is a nice bit of inspired, violent and horribly inappropriate silliness. I'm not sure if that previous sentence even makes sense but it truly is the only way I can think of to describe this movie. What a viewer gets with Postal is basically a send-up of political correctness and, as such, fun can be had watching it. *Side Note* Just so readers don't think this movie has made me want to join the Uwe Boll fan club I want to mention that the Postal DVD had a preview for Seed...yet another Uwe Boll video-game inspired horror film that looks just awful. I suspect Postal may be the only decent movie he makes. Strange.

Tateless comedy works in fits and starts. Worth a look if you like lowest of the low comedy and don't mind as many missed jokes as hits

posted on 08 May 2009

The promo material says "Disgusting. Offensive. Stupid." It is all that and more. Uwe Boll's video game inspired comedy about a guy who loses his job and ends up fighting terrorists. Its as tasteless as they come with the opening set in one of the 911 planes kind of being the litmus test as to whether you're going to find what follows funny or not. I like bits of the film. When it hits its wonderfully tasteless, but at the same time there are times when the film misses the mark and blows up the out house instead of its intended target. I can't imagine what you'll think of it, but I know that in all certainty video is the way to go with it since the scattershot nature would have made me annoyed if I had paid movie theater prices to see it. If you like low brow or no bro humor give it a shot. If you don't or have the slightest chance of being offended stay away.
