Awful
posted on 27 Jul 2009This film was DREADFUL and made no sense at all. Avoid at all costs. Stupid dreams and not very good acting. Sex scenes were also terrible appeared to make love with clothes on. You could guess the end when the film started but the ending didn't explain large chunks of the film - you will be left wondering what really happened. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL and you will regret the 2 hours or so that you spent watching it. I am actually disgusted that I had this film recommended to me - there will be strong words with that person tomorrow! I spent the whole time waiting for the film to start and then it finished without a middle or a climax. SO disappointed.
Awesome flick, Scary and clever!!!!!
posted on 03 Jul 2009This is an absolutely awesome flick. Very scary!!! And very clever! Tom Sizemore and Gina Philips are phenomenal. It seems Sizemore problems do not diminish his amazing talent. He is so scary in this picture!!!!! Gina is also very good in this picture, such a range of emotions. This is definitely one of their better works. Beautifully photographed movie. Very edgy camera work, with a lot of freedom and energy. A Must see movie!!!! This is so much more than just another horror movie, much smarter and deeper. This is also a super edgy psychological thriller. Deals with very important issues in today's society. Absolutely a Must!!!!
Could've been better...
posted on 24 May 2009Honestly, they should decide what they want this movie to be, a psychological thriller or simply an action thriller... Because their combination of both just doesn't seem to work out...Good thing about it though is that the characters aren't stupid... unlike some other horror movies, these characters are relatively believable. Another thing is that it is quite unpredictable but really, nothing exciting about its ending.I do wonder however at the title and how it is related to the movie(I watched it as "fear itself: dark memories")...or the tagline for that matter.
Had Good Potential, But Turned Into a Confusing Mess.
posted on 04 Apr 2009After seeing the trailer for this on a DVD, it looked like a pretty promising movie. I was led to believe it was a supernatural thriller, which it was... or at least I think it was."Ring Around the Rosie" is about a woman named Karen (played be Gina Phillips from "Jeepers Creepers") who goes to clean out her grandparent's secluded old summerhouse after her grandmother passes away. She spends the weekend there with her boyfriend, and he leaves to go back to work while she spends a few more days there to finish up packing. She has some strange visions and dreams about the house, and some odd occurrences take place. While staying there, she is introduced to the caretaker of the place, Pierce (played by Tom Sizemore), who seems nice enough, if not a little strange. Her sister Wendy shows up to help, and as time progresses, Pierce begins to become violent, threatening the girl's lives. The main problem with this movie is that it can't decide whether or not it's a supernatural horror film or a dramatic thriller. Or maybe it is one of the two, but I just didn't pick up on it. I thought it was some sort of supernatural story for the first 45 minutes or so, and then it turned into a thriller from there. Then when the dream-like twist ending wrapped things up, it seemed to combine the supernatural and thriller elements together - leaving the viewer very, very confused. On the plus side, the acting was pretty good, and it had some good moments. But it doesn't make up for the tangled, confusing plot.I still don't exactly know what happened, it makes no sense to me. If you watch this film, you will see how many questions are left unanswered, leaving the viewer with the attitude like "What in the hell was that!?". This movie could have been decent, but as it progressed, things got too confusing and it ruined the movie. Perhaps someone else may understand the plot better than I, but it just didn't work for me. 4/10.
what the hell?
posted on 05 Mar 2009That was a terrible, terrible movie. Absolutely dreadful. Isn't even worth my time discussing it. Don't watch it, heed the signs and don't waste an hour and half of your precious time like I did. Why was Karen like that? She's a complete moron. Again, awful. No character description. The information on the movie was that she went through some long suppressed horrible memory. What was it? The movie never even hinted at what it was! It went from one idea to another, absolutely ridiculously stupid. Nothing was explained. Nothing! I am so annoyed at the writers for wasting time and money turning out such a piece of rubbish. Thanks for nothing! And what was that little 5 seconds of film just before the credits rolled? What the hell was that? What was it supposed to be? IT WAS NOTHING! JUST SOMETHING TO BULK OUT THE TIME! Didn't explain anything at all relevant to the movie. The writers are complete half-wits! To Whoever Directed "Fear Itself:Dark Memories" or "Ring Around The Rosie": I COULD DIRECT BETTER THAN YOU! I mean come one! It's common sense that when filming a movie, 30 seconds of film is a lot of time to be looking at the one frame, like, oh, I don't know, 30 seconds of Karen waking up and just sitting in her bed. I'm 14 years old and I know this! To sum it all up: Stupid movie, A waste of time, money and resources, and not worthy to be a movie from this time.
What a film!
posted on 08 Jan 2009This flick was great! I watched it at my friend's house last night and I was blown away.Tom Sizemore has reached a new level of creepiness in this film as he plays the creepy neighbor who falls for gina phillips.Gina Phillips is so hot in this film it's not even funny. So is Mollen, who plays Gina's sister. The movie itself was great. It kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me scared throughout. The best part though was the ending, which I didn't see coming and certainly won't ruin for you here. You'll have to check it out yourself
Really, really bad
posted on 26 Oct 2008The first reviewer (A well thought out thriller, but you do have to think (which makes it better)) got it so wrong. If you think, your brain will make you pick up the remote and turn it off.I'm assuming here that you're contemplating watching this on DVD. If you're thinking of actually paying money to see this, think again. There must be some paint you could watch dry or some grass growing, which would be both a lot cheaper and much more entertaining.I have to confess, I haven't seen this all the way to the end. That's because I couldn't take it anymore. Everything about this production rubs me the wrong way. Like an hour and a half of fingernails on a blackboard. I'll take the fingernails.Don't waste your time. Watch something else. Anything else.
Needs rewriting
posted on 08 Oct 2008I was surprised at how irritated I was after watching this movie! It had great potential but the writers/director never let the story line fully develop. I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the ending or storyline of movies from various genres but this one leaves the viewer with far more questions than answers. It's more along the idea that you MIGHT know what the darn thing was all about, but your not sure. Tom Sizemore did an outstanding job as the creepy freak groundskeepers but his character did a sudden about face; one second you think he's a little odd but seems genuinely concerned next minute he's comparing himself (if in a vague sort of way) to "Mangler".I actually read another comment on here about the book and I think I might read it just so I can figure the whole story out!
All fall down
posted on 02 Oct 2008Ring Around The Rosie is one of those films that leaves you with a feeling that you've just wasted a bunch of time you could have spent cleaning the bathroom, organizing your sock drawer, or perhaps even reading a book. It's bland, it's without scares or thrills, and it's not at all recommended. Some uptight executive type (Karin) finds out her grandmother has just died so she and her boyfriend go to her remote home to pack up all the stuff because she's going to sell the house. There's a somewhat creepy caretaker there (Tom Sizemore) and he is a bit too friendly for Karin's taste. Karin's sister Wendy shows up to help pack and spends most of her time flirting and hanging out with the aforementioned creepy caretaker. Karin is having strange dreams or something, hallucinations? Not sure, but they involve something that happened years ago and the caretaker may have played some part in it. And then nothing was as it seemed when Karin's boyfriend shows up to take her home and Wendy's been dead for 17 years, end of story. Huh? So what the hell happened? Who knows, who cares. For having somewhat of a decent budget (so it appears), this is very shoddy and doesn't do a very good job of telling a story. I've been wondering how this one was for a while, and finally found it cheap at a sale, used, but it wasn't worth even the five bucks I shelled out for it. Don't waste your time, there's plenty of better flicks out there. 2 out of 10.
Sizemore ROCKS!!!!
posted on 16 Sep 2008Tom Sizemore is the most KICK ASS bad guy!! He is so creepy and cool, he makes this film rock. He is like De Niro in Cape Fear. I initially only rented it because of Sizemore, but Gina Phillips is smoking hot and I loved her in Jeepers Creepers so I knew her from before. Gina is the kind of girl you just want to help and boy does Sizemore help her,ha ha ha. This is a supernatural thriller that is extremely fun to guess at what is coming next.It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through. The colors and camera work add such a sense of foreboding and menace. The house becomes a character in the film.Sizemore remains one of the best actors in this genre. Anyway, I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone, but it is amazing. Have fun watching it!
Could have been good, but fell way short.
posted on 17 Aug 2008I gave this a 4 out of ten, and I am being quite generous for one thing and one thing only.My wife and I were able to break the code! After our conversations following the movie it made it better to watch and understand. The reason this movie COULD have been good is because it showed promise of having a 6th Sense type of feel. The dead ghost helping you live out part of your life, but no one knows he's dead type of thing.Well in this movie, it was the sister "Wendi" instead of Bruce Willis. This movie fell short in so many ways, the build up was way to vague and slow, there were a lot of beautiful shots, a lot of moments where we thought, "hey where did they film this, we'd like to go drive that route"...In the movie the lead actress obviously had some demons in her past, and were all tied to the house left to her upon granny's death. The director showed that the lead actress had problems with intimacy and a man, each time they were about to do the dirty, she had some bizarre vision. Well to make an extremely long boring story short.... here is my official synopsis. The lead actress and her sister "Wendi" were obviously molested and sexually abused by Grandpa, this lead to intimacy issues...When she goes back to the house to prepare it for sale, she was forced to face the demons that she tried so hard to suppress...She saw visions, had nightmares and battled other emotional issues. She met the grounds keeper who turns out to be a mere presence of a "young grandpa"... yes the ground-keeper didn't exist as the story leads you to believe... he is in fact grandpa, her face turns very concerned every time she gets a good look at him as if there was something strangely familiar about this guy.Few scenes later kid sister Wendy shows up, says "you started without me", Big sis is surprised enough to see Wendi that she drops all of the pictures and runs down to hug her, she exclaims profoundly how she is glad to see her again and how she misses her... the next line out of Wendi's mouth was a BIG BIG hint... she say's "wow this place is just like I remember it" to which big sister replies, "that's funny it seems a lot smaller" As the movie progresses, "wendi" grows quite fond of this grounds-keeper, the relationship comes to a frightening end when the grounds-keeper says to Wendi, "you can't dance worth sh**, let's see what you can do better than dance" Our best guess is that these are words that Grandpa actually uttered while he was molesting one or both of the girls in their youth. The lead actress faces her demons of a fear of horses, saves sister, has a confrontation with the grounds-keeper, in their battle Wendi falls over the railing and dies... grounds-keeper gets killed, pretty run of the mill.In some of the final scenes of the movie, boyfriend comes back, rain stops, he gives the most boring reveal ever in a movie "Wendi has been dead for 17 years" It's then and ONLY then can you start to piece together this puzzle that had a lot of potential, but because of the Juvenile brain of the director, it never made it to your television... how sad.Oh by the way, the reason the place seemed just the same to Wendi and not her sis is because... obviously wendi only has memories of it as a kid since she died as a kid.But now that you've seen what I had to say, Watch it again, think about these words... the movie will be much better for you.
If you have the choice between eating lead paint and watching this movie...strongly consider the paint.
posted on 17 Aug 2008Dear Viewer,This movie is quite possibly one of the worst movies in all existence. If you've ever seen Plan 9 From Outer Space or Slaughterhouse of the Rising Sun and enjoy those movies for their terrible acting, you'll probably still hate this movie. It's completely incoherent... I've never seen a movie with no plot, shoddy camera-work, AND bad acting (the three mainstays of horror) while being devoid of any attempt at some sort of final explanation or solution. It is without a doubt a complete waste of time. Many people exaggerate when they label something "a waste of time", but if you make the mistake of seeing this movie, be forewarned that something deep inside you will be sucked out...never to be replaced or validated by any means.(Upcoming Spoiler) The only reason why I'm giving this movie two out of ten is because Jenny Mollen (Wendy) is really hot and you get to see her in a white tank top while it's raining. (End of Spoiler)
What a great film
posted on 06 Jul 2008Scariest Horror Film this year! And believe me, I'd know.Tom Sizemore is great as the scary next door neighbor. This is one of his best horror performances.Gina Phillips is one piece of ase, believe me, I know from experience... Not really, but she is really hot in this and plays the female horror protagonist to a T.Jenny Mollen is just as hot, and gives a great performance as well.I won't ruin the film for you, but I will say that the ending is great. This movie is definitely the best horror film I've seen this year and I've seen them all.Ring Around the Rosie came out recently and it was in blockbuster when I went.I'd recommend you go check this out when you get the chance.
What The???????????
posted on 30 Jun 2008I was really enjoying this movie! It was creepy and scary, and you just couldn't wait to see what would happen next. The Actors did a great Job, but then WHAM! It's just over? I feel like the credits rolled in the middle of the film! Why'd she have such animosity toward her grandfather? Who the heck was Pierce? Why did she keep seeing ghosts of HERSELF? Who was that old man who followed them into the closet? and What did those creepy boots and feet have to do with ANYTHING! What a waste! the film was great up until the end and the end leave you going...........Hunh?............. I was fully disappointed with the ending and would like to have been let in on the secrets that the movie kept hinting about.
Movie diarrhea
posted on 22 Jun 2008Originally, my roommates and I were seeking a horror and a comedy to rent this evening... looks like we got both with "Ring-Around-the-Rosie"... only without the horror!!!!! At the beginning of the film we thought the actress had to be on LSD, and then, before the conclusion we thought maybe it was us for selecting it!!! It was the most incoherent verbal and visual diarrhea we agree we have ever seen on screen. I can see now how her fears were revisited... nature does have a way with scary wind (which by the way never blew out the candles all along her dresser, but some how managed to scatter the photos in her hand and heave her out the open window). After watching the film we found to our "astonishment" that there were no deleted scenes, as they were obviously all used in the film. Those 30 second fillers... we don't know what we enjoyed more- the angry wind, her clinging to the baseball bat like it was a French baguette, or the consecutive flashes of shaking black boots. I don't know about the rest of you movie credits but there has to something scary about a horse standing and a barely sloping hill. We do recommend it though, for any group of people who need a good laugh and a rescue from the reality of real horror flicks. The ones you pay to see. Finally, to add to the comment of an earlier critic... we agree brother... "nope. wrong. all wrong."
Great - Scary Ride
posted on 12 Jun 2008This movie is really cool! Sizemore is Scary as heck and the girls are smoking hot especially Jenny Mollen in the skimpy wet tank top at the end.I did not expect the Sizemore scene at the end - he scared the crap out of me and my girlfriend. It scared me and I was totally engrossed. Felt like THE SHINING only Sizemore was crazier. It's a great ride and worth watching with some popcorn. Even my girlfriend loved it who's not even a horror fan like I am.Simply awesome!
didn't find it all that good, I'm afraid
posted on 08 Jun 2008Not very well acted (except perhaps by John Sizemore) and a story that just failed to grab me. After a while, Gina Philips haunted looks as she gets out of bed for the umpteenth time, really started to irritate me.Also, if I suspect there's an intruder in the house, I wouldn't yell from upstairs: "Hello, is anybody there...?" as if that intruder would actually give an answer... It's not the worst movie I've ever seen, but it's just one of those "thirteen in a dozen" films. If you've seen one, you've seen them all.Goof: When Gina is holding a baseball bat with which to defend herself, she holds it upside down. In the next shot she suddenly holds it right side up.
watch stupid movie, throw TV out window
posted on 15 May 2008I've watched my share of dumb horror movies. Everything from cheaply-produced crap like "Zombie Chronicles" to somewhat-decently-produced crap like "House of the Dead 2", and after each dismal viewing I come away with the foolish belief that the worst is behind me. And with every new trip to Blockbuster I am proved wrong."Ring Around the Rosie" tells the tale of "Karen", a successful young business woman who inherits her grandparents' summer cottage following the death of her grandmother. She goes up with her dorky boyfriend to clean the place up to sell it... and that's when the terror starts. For me, that is.Gina Philips, (who played an obnoxious college student in "Jeepers Creepers" tops that character here in terms of complete and utter obnoxiousness. Here she's a frigid, immature ----- who treats her boyfriend like crap and behaves like a 13-year-old girl (watch how she freaks out upon discovering rats in the breadbox). She's so unlikable it's hard to elicit any sympathy for her at all) Her mentally-unstable character starts having hallucinations/flashbacks/dreams about how she and her sister Wendy were sexually molested by their grandfather when they were young (it's not actually said right out, but it's suggested).Enter Tom Sizemore as "Pierce", a creepy psychotic caretaker who becomes taken by Karen and her pointless sister "Wendy" and begins to stalks them in an increasingly suspenseful game of cat-and-mouse. In other words, it's Tom Sizemore as every other character he's ever played in a movie ever.Things go increasingly downhill from there, with Karen going crazy, Pierce becoming more obsessed with her and Wendy, and Wendy basically just taking up space. All of this leading up to an ending that makes no sense and doesn't explain a darn thing. Is it all a dream? A hallucination? Karen coming to terms with her past? Is Pierce supposed to be a subconscious manifestation of her abusive grandfather? I don't care and neither should you.
Could have been better
posted on 09 Apr 2008Okay, I watched this movie with my sister on Sunday thinking it would be a good horror movie from what we saw on the trailer (I think it was from BloodRayne, I can't remember), so we rented it and watched it. If you are looking for a horror movie, pass this one by. It is not a horror movie, it's more of a suspense and (I'm adding my own genre) confusion. This movie features Tom Sizemore as Pierce who is a Handiman at Gina Philips's late grandmother's property. He took care of the grandmother's house, the land, and the horses. He lives right next to the horse corral. Karin (Gina) has to go to her grandmother's house to go through the items. She brings along her boyfriend, Jeff (Randall Batinkoff), who later leaves Gina alone at the house while he goes back to work. Karin starts reliving her past in the house, which isn't good. There is a closet that she can't go near from something that happened in her past. Plus Pierce is kind of creeping Karin out by showing up at the weirdest moments, like when she is falling from her window and he catches her. Karin gets so freaked out that she calls up her sister, Wendy (Jenny Mollen), to stay with her. Wendy meets Pierce and they get along, they are acting like old friends, dancing around, Pierce shows her how to chop wood too. Then it starts getting weird. Karin starts having 'dreams' that Wendy disappeared, and she keeps seeing her younger self and Wendy's younger self having fights, then one of them goes into the closet. You find out a little information about Pierce when he's alone with Karin in the closet (making out in the closet!) hiding from the bad thing. Also he kidnaps Wendy and takes her back to his place...and...Nothing happens. Anyways, it's a good movie, I admit, but it's not THAT good. It confuses the heck out of you. More then half the movie is dream sequences from Karin, so you're not sure if it's real or if it's a dream. Unlike some other movies, it does tie up the movie, it answer some questions, SOME being the key word. You still are asking yourself "Wait, what?" and "What happened?" or "What did happen to Wendy then?" "What did Pierce have to do with it?" "Did Pierce kill younger Wendy?" "Where did Pierce go?" So I give it 2 out of 5 stars. And the rating is R for violence/terror. Although, if you want the truth, it has some sex scenes, you don't see anything (nudity wise) but even a cat would know what they were doing. There are two scenes like that, both between Karin and Jeff (her boyfriend). So, if you want to give it a shot, so be it. I watched it cause it looked scary also it had Tom Sizemore in it (I like him, go away), but I was a bit disappointed in it. It could have been way better if they just answered the questions or just reassured you of what you thought had happened (which I think what I'm thinking is true...). And if there wasn't a lot of dream sequences in it.

Confusing & poorly put together.
posted on 30 Aug 2009In this psychological? ghost story? movie, a young woman who has just inherited her aunt's house in the country befriends a caretaker that lives just a small distance away from the house, visited by her sister who takes an instant liking to him, the heroine is soon suffering from weird nightmares & hallucinations that maybe connected with the house or the stranger, who despite being nice & somewhat quiet may have something to do with it all. Or at least I think that's the plot line, it was so hard to tell since the film couldn't decide what it wanted to be, a psychological thriller or a weird ghost story, one thing was for sure, this was poorly put together & rather confusing. The directing & editing were also a bit choppy & the acting bordered on mediocre, except for TOM SIZEMORE who was quiet good, but even his performance is not enough to save this extremely bland film. There's no suspense, nothing creepy in it & the ending is also confusing & unsatisfying as well. Best to skip it & rent one of Tom's other movies. Don't waste you're money on this.* star
