Great movie, mediocre release
posted on 31 Aug 2009I remember seeing this movie when it aired on Disney channel oh so long ago, so when I saw it for $6.50 at Best Buy, I just couldn't resist.
While the movie itself is still hilarious, you can easily tell that it isn't a recent movie, what with some innuendo, racial comments, and scenes that would most likely foster a rating greater than PG nowadays. The most memorable scene for most viewers will probably be the series of tests main character Fred takes to see if he's got what it takes to be part of NASA's mission to Mars. And while the humor after that sequence of scenes isn't nearly as funny, it's still a great watch overall. Then again, that could be the nostalgia talking.
As for the DVD itself, it's not exactly the best. For one, you can't skip to different scenes, which is a real drag if you want to skip to certain scenes. Chapter selections are just something that even the most basic of DVDs should have, so it's strange to only see a play option on the main menu. You'll also notice if you check the back of the box that the movie was originally in widescreen, so it's another minus to have to watch the movie, knowing that it's not in the original aspect ratio.
But all in all, this was a great purchase, especially since this movie practically never airs on TV now. And I'm not exactly surprised that the movie lacks a widescreen and chapter selection option, considering how cheap I got it for. Sure I would have liked them in there, but this release will do for now.
Rocketman
posted on 31 Aug 2009This movie is just a funny movie. You wont grow as a person. It doesn't solve any world problem. It doesn't have a social agenda. This is just a movie you will enjoy.
One criticism is that the movie does not have any chapter selection.
You cant jump to a favorite part or start later in the movie.
That is my only complaint.
Hilarious!
posted on 31 Aug 2009My family and I are not avid movie watchers, but when we first saw this movie we absolutely could not stop laughing. We rented it before buying it, and had a seven day rental - during which time we watched the movie 10 times! There is something to be said when a family that does not watch movies much, watches a single movie that many times in that brief of a time period. Watch this movie once, and you will only want to see it again and again!
Wacky...
posted on 31 Aug 2009...and outragiously funny! I just can't help but crack myself out when I watch this film. For me,it's one of the best comedy films next to Superstar & Dumb and Dumber. I am glad it finally came out on DVD. I guess the email I sent to those DisneyDVD-site folks heard my plea. A great family film! Thanks Disney! :)
Watch with Kleenex and Empty Bladder
posted on 31 Aug 2009This movie is HILARIOUS! The attached space suit scenes left tears of laughter in our eyes. The switched-food tubes was great. The running gags and the incessant humor is too funny. This movie is not only humorous, but it is also a feel-good movie for anyone who has ever wanted a dream to come true. Too bad this movie has been so hard to find... When we saw it on Amazon, we knew we had to get it right away. We're glad we did. Get this while you can! It may not be here later. Great family movie! Appeals to all ages, especially the young at heart. Enjoy!
Good Natured Funny
posted on 31 Aug 2009I didn't think I was going to like this movie after watching the first few minutes. It seemed to get dumber and dumber...and then the dumber it got, the funnier it became. "Funny" is an understatement: it's hilarious.
If ever there was a cult classic comedy, this is it. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard as I did during the "gas" scene...some fart jokes are funny, but to include the sight gag with it is side-splitting laugh-out-loud.
You walk away from this movie smiling. As far as I'm concerned, that spells "winner" in my book.
FUNNY!
posted on 31 Aug 2009This show is such a wonderfully funny movie that the whole family can watch. My family loves it! I was laughing so hard at times that my sides ached. It's about a man that has been dreaming of space travel since he was a little boy. He finally has the opportunity to go with the astronaut team. He must go through astronaut training as well as pass everything to insure that he will be able to function in space. He's accident proned and tries to turn the attention from himself with his "It wasn't me" phrase throughout the movie.
While going through space he is locked out of his oxygen chamber, which
he is supposed to sleep in for several weeks before being awakened to complete the mission. He does some crazy things to entertain himself until the others awaken.
While on the planet he has a flatulence problem (see picture on front of DVD). This makes for a hilarious time since his suit is attached to a fellow astronaut by a hose.
Truly hilarious. I would highly recommend watching this movie with the whole family. I wouldn't pay the ridiculous prices that are listed here though. I would rent it or buy the VHS version. Disney also has it listed as a Disney Movie Rewards redemption item. If you have bought a lot of the newer Disney DVDs, this may be the better route.
Rocketman Rocks!
posted on 31 Aug 2009This is the best family movie available. The slap happy comedy is the greatest one out there. From 7 to 70, this is a great show.
I was so happy when it finally came out on dvd, but have been disgusted that they are charging rediculous prices in the U.S. How dissapointing, that many will not ever own this dvd. VHS is the way to go on this one it seems.
What's Up Where My Rocketman Disney?
posted on 31 Aug 2009Come disney where is this film probably hiding in a valut somewhere right? i love harland williams in this film he is laugh out funny in it and you know what it's a pretty clean wholesome film . i know it got slammed a couple of years ago when it was first released, critics claimed that it was stupid beyond anything they'd seen . but i think they missed the picture it was suppose to be stupid, you guys need to get a grip, not everything has to make sense to be funny . sure the script is a little corny but so were the marx brothers films give this film a break, like the one that is not that funny and makes no sense would have to be dude where my car? plus this film has heart you really root for harland williams character and the other supporting cast does a wonderful job in bring this film to life. umm about the PG rating well it's mostly for the cartoon violence , i think there might be mild lauguage although i do'nt think there's any, oh and little mild bathroom humor mostly fart and throw up gags in here but nothing serious. Although you never see the throw up it's implied it is there, just thought i'd clear up that issue for worried parents. A Wonderful Film The Whole Family Can Enjoy I Mean It.
Very Highly Recomended Film For All Ages.
Update: I just got a copy of this classic film and i just laughed myself sick and my nephew loved it too. my only beef is that there is'nt a option for widescreen and where's the blooper reel and deleted scenes ? pretty barebones but i'm thankful that disney released this at all.
Come on Disney, don't be so stingy!
posted on 31 Aug 2009When DVD's are released there about $20 bucks. Disney however, is so expensive! We should boycot Disney and see how fast they make it happen for everyone. It's $60 for Rocketman. It's my favorite slapstick comedy ever. If you ever want to "RENT" a movie for the whole family to enjoy, look no further than Rocketman.
My favorite scene was right before "Sorry I'm late, I ran into Gary" AWESOME effects! Slow motion funny funny stuff!
Sure it's dumb, but GREAT!
posted on 31 Aug 2009Purhaps my love for this movie is because the first time I watched it, I was with a bunch of slap-happy children. We laughed and laughed and it instantly won a place in my heart. It's now one of my family's comedy classics. We return to it whenever we just need to laugh and slapstick silliness and lighten our mood. It's too bad it seemed to commercially flop and has become a somewhat difficult-to-find cult film. I always recommend it to friends who enjoy watching movies with their kids, and nobody has been disappointed. They know they're getting into a "stupid" movie, and they love it!

Laugh out loud
posted on 31 Aug 2009This guy is a riot. silly comedy that sticks in your head and comes back days later. I have five kids. Farts ARE funny. End of story.
Love the move. Makes me totally laugh. My kids too.
