First rocky of the 80's.

Rocky 3 is again another good sequel. The story drags on a bit, but it is far more entertaining than Rocky 2. There is definitely more in-ring action. Even a Boxing vs. Wrestling match is shown with Hulk Hogan. You should see this movie as it is better than the previous two.

The second most entertaining in the series!

Rocky III is a good movie. It's more
entertaining than part II, but there's
something about part II that makes me like
it a hair better than part III, but part III
is very entertaining. Second only to Rocky
IV for the most entertaining in the series. I
give Rocky III *** out of ****

(Tired) Eye Of The (Box Office) Tiger

Rocky IIIDirected by : Sylvester Stallone, 1982Enough is enough seems to be the message of the plot for the aging Rocky Balboa, but should really be said of this tired movie formula.Flashier and more stylish outing - big on brawn and tackiness - has Balboa getting some of his own medicine. Challenged by an up-and-coming boxer and subsequently beaten. Will he win the re-match? Does Balboa wear stars-and-stripes shorts? All that is memorable is the theme song (Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor) and yet another go-around by Burgess Meredith as mentor and coach, Mickey.

The best Rocky film

Rocky III is the franchises' best offering. Mr. T steals the show as heavyweight contender Clubber Lang who batters Sly early on in the film to win the world title. Cue a rematch in which Sly is out for revenge, and naturally annihilates his opponent after suffering implausible amounts of pain! The fighting is of course highly unbelievable but that's fine in Rocky III because it adds to its comic value. The movie does have a couple of stale moments, but overall its well worth seeing, if only for the look on Sly's face when his coach dies! Sly isn't very convincing in his portrayal of a man in anguish... Eye of the Tiger is a top theme tune, but the training scenes between Apollo and Sly needn't have been so camp.... On the whole however, Rocky III is not bad at all.

This is where business picked up!

What is wrong with all you people out there? Don't you know a good movie when you see it?! It had certain dramatic qualities (Mickey's death, Rocky losing to Clubber Lang, etc.) I can't find anything wrong with this movie and I've seen it twice already. The scene that most stuck in my mind was when Rocky battles Thunderlips (Hogan). That was funny! I would rate this above the earlier version but I feel it wasn't as great as Rocky IV! I would give this movie a 8 3/4 out of 10 because It was just so good. Some of the Rubbish that's out today couldn't beat this with a stick! If you're a Stallone fan, Watch it!

best rocky ever

This is the best rocky out of them all. Excellent acting, excellent storyline, everything is brilliant.Mr T has got attitude, and when rocky loses his first match and has a little chat with adrian on the beach, then the training starts. With eye of the tiger, a classical soundtrack that is like no other. An absolute masterpiece. The fights are marvelous. Especially the slow motion bits. The film is well directed as well. One thing that is a shame in this film is the death of mickey. What a shame. He was such a great character. But this is what drives rocky to carry on and put away the guilt. also apollo wouldn't have trained him and there would be no "Eye of the Tiger man".

The third installment in the Great Rocky Series. Rocky gains international fame and becomes a household name. Rocky wins 10/10 title defences when a new challenger steps forward. Clubber Lang. Clubber is a tough fighter who can match Rocky's determination and strength. Rocky after losing the Eye of the Tiger faces Clubber and is beaten in the 2nd round. To make matters worse is trainer and friend Mickey Goldmill dies after suffering a heart attack during the fight. Then an unlikely allie steps forward to help Rocky train for the rematch with Clubber. Apollo Creed. After training with Apollo for a few weeks they are going no where because Rocky has lost the Eye of the Tiger. After a long talk with wife Adrian Rocky regains his Eye of the Tiger and starts training with renewed energy. Then Rocky meets Clubber in a heart pounding fight. Rocky III 5/5.Elliot Waters

great boxing movie

I am a big fan of the rocky movies and Sylvester Stallone and I have watched this movie heaps of times and I never get sick of this movie about how Rocky is the Heavyweight champion of the world and he is taking life easy just fighting against easy opponents and then he fights the number one challenger Clubber Lang (Mr.T) for his heavyweight title and he loses. This movie stars other actors and actress like Talia Shire,Carl Weathers,Burt Young,Burgess Meredith,Hulk Hogan and Tony Burton.Thre are heaps of great scenes in this movie like at the start of the movie how the song Eye Of The Tiger was playing and there where images of Rocy wining heaps of fights and the great boxing scenes in the end of the movie where good.Over all this is a good movie and my rating is 6 out of 10.

An opposite of Rocky II.

posted on 11 Apr 2009

Rocky II focused only on the love story between Rocky and Adrian. Rocky III focuses on Rocky's boxing career. After losing the heavyweight title to Clubber Lang(played by Mr.T), and mourning the death of his trainer, everything seems as if Rocky has nothing going for him. Basically, the whole movie focuses on if he should fight Clubber Lang for a rematch. At the beginning of the movie, Rocky fights a wrestler, which I found to be a completely useless scene and a waste of time.

Good but not great sequel

Better than number 1? No, Better than number 2? Not even close, Entertaining? Yes, Deserves a 6.1 out of 10? No, underrated? Yes, very, Flawed? Yes, better than the further sequels besides Rocky 6? Yes, Good story? yes, Good movie? Yes, Great? No, Godfather part 3 level? No, Unintentionnaly laughable? A little if you look into the flaws deep enough and if you look at it the wrong way. Anyways, Rockys IQ is high in this 1, Not as funny, This sequel is OK, but Oscar worthy to parts 4 and 5, which aren't awful, but they're not very good, I would say this film deserves a 6.7 out of 10, **1/2 out of ****, Recommended for rocky fans, but still a bit disappointing

The third rocker

Rocky III is a raucous movie, Sly returns as the number one anabolic Hollywood star as he goes for another knockout. Although Rambo III has got some of the strengths of the two earlier movies, and it's a necessary movie in the Rocky-franchise because it shows a Rocky always maturing as he faces personal problems and sorrows. But Rocky III is far from a great movie, the straight-forward production and final finish makes the movie grand for watching boxing-action, but nothing more - Mr. T's ticked off Clubber Lang is nothing more than irritating and the family drama of Rocky reaches a certain point were it's simply not interesting. But one thing Sylvester Stallone really deserves is the fact that he manages making the movie both believable and enjoyable enough that when the movie is finished you feel both entertained and good. (And one thing's for sure; you'll miss Burgess in the fourth coming).

mr T and Hulk Hogan!

POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!Every Rocky fan has a favourite in the series, mine being the second, and this being the fave of lots of my friends. It has Mr T. It has Hulk Hogan. However, it doesn't have the heart of the 1st two, although there are always tears when Mickey dies, ensuring that the emotion which made the original a classic, remains. As entertaining as ever, but we just get the feeling we have seen it before. Mr T's verbal assault on Adrian is great viewing. the recurring cast is as strong as before, and if nothing great is added to those characters, Mr T fills the gaps. 8 out of ten

Another return to the ring for Rocky Balboa sees Stallone ditch drama for all-out adrenalin-fuelled entertainment. Mirroring the new glamorous lifestyle that Rocky has, Stallone delivers a slick, pop-promo-styled film that offers a natural continuation for the now complacent boxer.

Rocky gets his wake-up call when hot and hungry underdog "Clubber Lang" (Mr T) gives him the whipping of his life. The added departure of Mickey from his life drives Balboa into despair. But rather than mire Rocky in yet more dialogue-driven emotional hell, Stallone goes for a faster, more action-driven movie.

Sly relentlessly cranks up the viewer with the obvious conclusion that Rocky will ultimately make his comeback. He further spikes this increasingly tempting bout by making Mr T's deliciously evil Clubber Lang as thoroughly nasty as possible.

Aided by the now friendly Apollo Creed, Rocky gets back into the now familiar two-tone training sequence. First attempt being weak and uninspired with the second effort full of mad endurance training that's guaranteed to psyche up even the most miserable viewer.

Having Apollo train Balboa works well as he sets about injecting some grace and finesse into the Italian Stallion. On another level it also paves the way for a differently styled final bout that while slick, also offers greater scope for a new height in dramatics. Such visceral eye candy may not please everyone but as a glamorous action-thriller some of the basic rules of the genre were written with "Rocky III".

Stallone,Mr. T, and boxing – what else could you want?

This is a great 3rd Installment, Mr. T makes a great bad guy, and Stallone gets to show off his muscles a 3rd time. Some people choose not to appreciate the DVD collection, because the first is the only one remixed into 5.1 sound, but it offers you WideScreen, and 5 of the best movies to hit the screen. Francis Ford Coppola's sister, Talia Shire returns in the role she has in all 5, and Carl Weathers, Apollo, is back. The good thing about the Rocky films is none of them are "copies" of the other, each one has it's own qualities, nothing is "rehashed".

Almost the best one in the series

posted on 14 Jan 2009

Rated PG for Violence. For me, Rocky 1 is the best film in the Rocky series. However Rocky III comes very very close. This one takes a change in the genre. The first two Rockies were Drama's.This film is more of an action but there is also drama as well. The film may not have the great storyline the first two films did but it is very entertaining and is a fun boxing movie. Also the film features Mr.T and Hulk Hogan. Both films basically made their careers.Mr.T provides the humor of this film! He is hilarious. This film now has Rocky being a rich and successful boxer. He one day gets challenged to a match by this amateur boxer named Clubber Lang(Mr.T).They fight and Clubber beats him.So then Rocky's old enemy Apollo Creed befriends him and trains him to beat Clubber Lang.Rocky III is almost the best film of the Rocky series and it just ranks slightly lower than Rocky 1 in my opinion.Still an excellent movie.

A solid and unique storyline!

Rocky has gone from a poor nobody to the VIP of America. His life is a polar opposite of what is shown in Rocky 1...

With his success, he becomes over- confident and spoiled. He is more literate, better looking and physically buffed. He trains with leisure, even making it a media sideshow.

His opponent, a crude, mean, "Mike Tyson" style knock- out artist trains like the Rocky in the original movie, with ambition and hunger. This brute "Clubber Lang" (BRILLIANTLY portrayed by Mr. T) doesn't want media attention or accolades... he wants the TITLE, period.

Mickey has a heart attack, Rocky gets knocked out, Mickey dies. The fantasy world of success that Rocky lived in comes tumbling down with shocking swiftness.

The man who had found his self-esteem in the original film has lost it once again. He feels responsible for Mickey's death. He's not only ashamed of himself, he seems to genuinely hate himself.

Unfortunately, the movie feels very RUSHED as Adriane guides Rocky back to his determination and pride, as Apollo trains him in the slums of LA, and as Rocky overwhelms Clubber with his new found "Apollo" skills... speedy jabs, artful dodges and ducking, and fancy footwork. Ultimately, however, it's Rocky's "old" ability to "take a punch" that allows him to wear out his powerhouse opponent. This Rocky is slim and fast, with his old "cast iron jaw."

Despite it's rushed second half, this film delivers big. And once again, the HUMOR in the first half of the film is brilliant... especially concerning the fun and painful charity bout with Hulk Hogan.

A very enjoyable movie!

Rocky 3, isn't a great sequel and it isn't a bad one. It's kinda like the "Lord of the Ring's", sequels. Therefore you can't compare it to the previous two films. Realistically , you'd be better off , viewing it, as a continuation. In part 3 , Rocky has risen to the staus of the heavyweight champion , by beating Apollo Creed.Unfortunately , he falls victim to the spoils of success and , hence , loses the driving force that got him there in the first place. He soon is doing things for charity , like wrestling Hulk Hogan, aka:Thunder Lips. Unbenounced , to Rocky, an up and coming contender is in the crowd and sizing up the Italion Stallion. This challenger ,named Clubber Lang, is wild eyed , muscle bound , and has that one ingredient that Rocky's seem to have lost since Rocky 2......the hunger. Or as the leading song calls it..the eye of the tiger. Eventually, finding an opening to challenge our retiring champ, Clubber issues his challenge at Rocky's Retirement conference. Ironically , in front of the library , that we see in all the films. You know ? The one with the statue. And we can't have that can we ? !! And we can't have a mohawed-chizzled Mr. T , coming on to Adrian right ? Well , neither can our Mr. Balboa. So, with the stage set..... Rocky wants too fight ( one last time ) , Micky doesn't want him to , Pauly doesn't care, as long as he gets to ride the coat tails , and Adrian...oops. I think I've said enough. Just in case you haven't seen this one. Therefore, I won't reveal what happens. But I will say that the setup was good enough for me to pay to see Rocky 3 at the theatre and I'm getting it 12 years later , on dvd. No extras or commentary , but I don't need any. These Rocky films , speak for themselves. This one in particuliar , is special , though. It makes it's changes in characters interesting and gives person one a spirit, if you know what I mean. Which , I think was very clever and the only real way to keep the Rocky franchise fresh and reliable to draw in the box office crowd ( you and I ).

the most emotional Rocky

'Rocky III' is the third part in the Rocky story. This is the part where they should have stopped, after this film. (It does have some good moments, but it is not nearly as good as the previous two.) It goes all downhill from here on out. After the death of a dear friend and personal trainer, Rocky and Apollo team up together to train Rocky to get him back competing. This is a story about loss and about trying to get back onto one's feet again after dealing with loss. It's a touching story, but I don't think it is as strong, and I do not think the fighting scenes and the production was as good as the second one. See it if you are a fan.

Rocky regains the "eye of the tiger" in superhero-style adventure

posted on 14 Oct 2008

Even though "Rocky III" jettisoned the subtlety and understatement of the previous two films in favor of broad themes and easily digested plot points, the movie is undeniably exciting and inspirational and a lot of fun. In fact, one can say it's those things in large part BECAUSE it left behind the subtlety and understatement.

"Watchable idiocy" was how one Amazon reviewer described the post "Rocky II" sequels in this series, and though I can see what he's saying, I think that assessment is a little harsh. The truth is that, yes, the "Rocky" movies certainly work well when approached as straight-up drama (the first two films and the return-to-basics fifth entry) but undeniably also entertain quite well when done as broad, superhero-style adventures (this third film and especially the fourth).

Having said that, I was pleased to see upon re-watching this film after many years that there ARE a handful of nicely done small moments and bits of humor among the big highs and melodramatic lows, so it's not all a case of painting things with a broad brush. But again, even the broad stuff is fun. You'll also find yourself humming Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" for days after watching the movie.
