8 Wheels. 1 Family. No Brakes. (Australia Theatrical)
On A Family Vacation, No One Can Hear You Scream.

PLOT SUMMARY

Bob Munro is the dad of a dysfunctional family. He hires an RV to take the family on vacation. However Bob is NOT the best RV steering wheel operator in the neighborhood and the hilarity is added on by the fact that the brakes are about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Bob first realizes it when the RV rolls (not literally) backwards into a line of shopping carts. Also Bob's job is in danger if he doesn't go to a very important meeting. Before you can say "COME BACK! COME BACK!," things go gloriously, hilariously, Munro-annoyingly wrong due to the lack of brakes, Bob's job, toilet waste not cleared out from the last rental and more hilarious stuff.

Six Wheels. Two Hundred Tons of Steel. Complete With Nagging Wife and Ungrateful Kids. Robin Williams is in for the Ride of his Life!

posted on 30 Aug 2009

Meet Bob Munro. He has a great job at Pure Vibe Beverages, a loving and understand wife, Jamie, and two kids, Cassie and Carl, who love and worship him...But that was then. Now, his job is dry and bitter, his wife and kids are complete ingrates who don't respect him and think he should go to Hell. Now during one fateful week, Bob and his family were all prepared to take a long awaited vacation in Hawaii, but Bob's boss, Todd Mallory, told Bob he had to be at a business meeting in Boulder, Colorado, to discuss a merger with Alpine Beverages. Bob decided to make the trip to Colorado more fun for his family and bond with them at the same time, so he rented a big RV. His family was anything but thrilled. But, they reluctantly board the monstrosity on wheels, nicknamed "Big Rolling Turd" and shove off--after Bob fights with his seat belt. At their first stop, Bob gets a hard lesson in proper braking procedures. At their second stop at an RV park, Bob struggles to empty the waste storage. Luckily Travis Gornicke, a jocular traveling man, came to his aide. He then invited the Munros to dinner at their rig: an old red bus turned motor home. Travis, his wife Marie Jo, and their kids Earl, Billy and Moon were very pleasant, energetic people, which made the Munros nervous. Bob, meanwhile, attempted to send a typed report to his boss, but was unable to send it via e-mail or text message. He accidentally left his laptop in the john one night before they pulled out. A drifter discovered it. Said drifter was picked up by the Gornickes who assume the man stole the laptop and left him at the side of the road. The Gornickes were determined to track down the Munros and bring back the laptop; after a few more days of Hell, the Munros finally arrive in Colorado. While Jamie, Cassie and Carl take in the sights, Bob secretly slips away in the RV to meet Todd and the business associates for Alpine Beverages, Larry and Gary. Bob killed at the presentation, though not literally, then tried to get back quickly before the family noticed he was gone. Unfortunately the mountain road was clogged with traffic, so Bob steered the enormous RV down a twisting, turning and bending side road. He finally caught up with his family and together, they take in the sights. All the majesty the Rocky Mountains had to offer. For the first time in a long time, the Munros were actually bonding..Well, thanks to Bob's incompetence with parking brakes, the RV instantly became a submarine when it backed into the river. To make matters worse, Todd called Bob back to meet with Larry and Gary again. He confessed the entire matter to his family, who once again lost what little respect for him they had shortly gained back. So, alone, Bob fished his bicycle out of the river and rode off to his date with destiny, while Jamie and the kids managed to hitch a ride with the Gornickes, who happened to show up right then. While pedaling his way to the meeting, Bob thought long and deep about his family and his career, and which really mattered more to him. The answer soon came and he quickly rejoined his family with the Gornickes, where Travis happily returns him his laptop. He was also in time for the meeting. But this time, Bob told the truth about Pure Vibe and they lost the account, and Bob lost his job; with his newly-loving family by his side, Bob fishes the RV out of the river and they all head home together. En route, Larry and Gary catch up to them and, since they enjoyed Bob's speech at the meeting, offered him a position. From here on out, things were really looking up...until the RV, with no brakes applied, backed up right over Larry and Gary's cars! What can I say about RV? Great movie. Robin Williams at his finest, as always! Finally Robin returns to comedy. Where have ya been, man? He voiced Fender in Robots from 2005, and that was meager to say the least. Robin's been doing serious stuff until now, finally, another classic Robin Williams gold comedy. Also here: Cheryl Hines as the wife, the sexy Joanna 'JoJo' Levesque as Cassie, Josh Hutcherson as Carl, Jeff Daniels as Travis Gornicke, and Kristin Chenoweth as Mary Jo Gornicke. They were all good. Jeff Daniels is also an actor noted for doing funny and serious stuff. You may remember him from Dumb and Dumber, and Arachnophobia; For his next project, Robin will be voicing a penguin in a CGI spoof of March of the Penguins. Look for it soon. In the meantime, if you're looking for the perfect flick to take your family to, or if you're a Robin Williams fan, then by all means, see RV today! It's all the fun of a full-fledged family vacation, short of actually taking one! National Lampoon's Vacation: The Next Generation, so to speak. I recommend it!

Nobody likes this movie but the people

"RV" (2006) has been called both "the worst movie ever" and "the funniest movie ever," by a variety of reviewers, professional and non. I disagree with both assessments. "RV" is definitely NOT the worst, and probably not the funniest... but it's a good film, not a bad one, and it has many hilarious moments.Robin Williams plays Bob Munro, an L.A. soda company executive who plans to take his family on a vacation trip to Hawaii. His boss, however, has other plans: Bob must go to Colorado to make a presentation at a merger meeting. Rather than be fired, Bob changes the family's plans and rents a huge R.V. (recreational vehicle) and takes them -- Bob, his wife (Cheryl Hines), daughter (Jo Jo Levesque) and young son (Josh Hutcherson) on a road trip to Colorado. This being a Robin Williams comedy, of course everything that can go wrong with Bob's plans DOES go wrong. The RV's brakes don't work. The portable toilet is clogged. Country folks they meet along the way try to be helpful, but just make things worse.Enter the Gornicke family -- Jeff Daniels, the lovely Kristin Chenoweth, and their kids -- all driving their own RV on the great American highway. The Gornickes are all smiles and laughter, but Bob's family finds them repellent, and soon the Munros are speeding away from the Gornicke RV like raccoons from a stink bomb -- which, incidentally, is one of the movie's funniest scenes. At the end of the Munros' adventure, Bob does lose his job... but gets a better one for delivering an honest presentation that outs his company as a penny-pinching, outsourcing, environment-despoiling behemoth, and advises against the merger. After nearly 100 minutes of building up good will, the movie's credits roll, under a glorious final scene of the Munros and the Gornickes singing that paean to the open road, Bobby Troup's "Route 66." This may sound tacky, but it isn't. The song's arrangement is one of the best ensemble routines I've ever heard, especially with Kristin Chenoweth hitting the high notes as only she can.I've heard Troup and I've heard Nat King Cole; but "Route 66" was never done better than it is, at the end of "RV." For fans of Heidegger and Ockham!

For all of you fans of Ockham and Heidegger, this is a film for you! Hilarious, intriguing, often mesmerizing, this is a film for the entire family. I laughed so hard, the neighbors almost called the police. If Orson Welles were alive, he would be directing comedies like this one. I particularly liked the scene of the RV. Do I smell a sequel? Anyway, if you enjoy the easy writings of Thomas More or Therese of Avila, this film is your best bet. The woman from Arrested Development was great too. It is a film that really makes you think. It was almost as good as Click, and as insightful as Man on Fire. Token.

Utter rubbish

I'm 15, I watched this movie with my younger brother (11). Please keep this is mind when reading this review. This film is extremely cliché (SPOILER SPOILER ---workaholic father realises he does not know his family so hires an RV to go on the road with his "hardcore" son, sarcastic teenage daughter and "perfect" wife. Disaster of course, ensues, they meet a "madcap" family and try to avoid them but fail and after a lot of chaos eventually manage to become best friends and LOVE is returned!)SPOILER OVER.We rented this movie as we believed it would be light hearted, clean family humour. It is actually probably the grossest movie in history. The majority of the sentences refer to "crap" "poop" "t*rd" or "sh!t" and there is one particularly disgusting scene in which the Father (Robin Williams, this movie's selling point) gets sprayed in the stuff. It was then my brother said "Turn it off! Its gross and not even funny!" but, believed it would get better we carried on.Direction was OK, plot was cliché, SOME STEREOTYPICAL acting was good (the "odd" family parents and the younger son) albeit "Jojo" whose sarcastic teenager whose lines left me saying "What?". This film is ideal for a 6-9 aged audience as only that audience would appreciate its toilet humour and supposed "hilarious" scenes. If you consider "RV" funny, please compare with "Little Miss Sunshine" and realise what a "rolling t*rd" (which the family lovingly christen the RV) of a movie this is! My Brothers comment? : Just DON'T watch "RV".

And it was OK. It started slow, but had some good moments towards the end.All in all, 6 or so...I thought there could have been some better scenes that could have been played better. Some of it was just not funny. I don't understand how Robin Williams can tone himself down so far for this movie. The potential was there for something big, but it just sort of laid there.I don't know that I have seen Mr. Williams do a lot of slapstick, and that was part of the preface of this movie. Had there been more talk and less action, there might have been a bigger bang for the buck. But what the heck do I know? I don't get paid for this crap...just my opinion.

Yet another home run by Robin Williams

I am so a gay for Robin Williams comedic stylings that if I were still a fertile woman, I would totally have like 3.82 kids with Robin Williams.RV had me laughing from the time the previews for the other movies started until I completed my bath afterward.I especially liked the funny parts. He am most funniest and exceedeth all others in the comedy place. Each movie of his has raised the bar, just like he raises my bar to new levels when I watch his movies. The tickets to his movies should come with klennex.

One of the Worst, Bad films EVER made.

How this pile of c**p had millions of dollars squandered on it is a great mystery. Did someone think it would be funny to have a gigantic, gas guzzling vehicle that was plastered all over with the words "Rent Me"? We are not allowed to forget this image, as it is shown over and over until you are about to throw up. It seems that the "writer" of this dredge was confident that this one visual gag would carry the whole film. This film encapsulates all that is wrong with Hollywood. I hope at least that Robin Williams makes good use of his pay check because after this abomination he may as well kiss his once-bright career good-bye.

So-So

This movie was OK, not that funny, Josh Hutcherson did a TERRIBLE job, some of the jokes (including R.V. sewage line) were EXTREMELY unnecessary. Not very good direction. Really annoying singing. GOD it was just really kind of dumb. The ending was just plain dumb, "Dad, the R.V.'s rolling away!" Gosh.I know they weren't trying to make "Schindler's List" or anything, but still the worst family comedy since "The Shaggy Dog.' The ending reminded me of "The Pink Panther" which also had a terrible ending. One of the things that really annoyed me was the PG. Sometimes i thought it should of been PG-13 (but of course a very mild one.) Pink panther was definitely better. Similar jokes, worse plot, worse acting etc. 4/10. Rent this one.

this was actually good

I saw a lot of reviews for this movie that said "this movie sucked" or "never see this movie it was so bad". So, I was skeptical about seeing it. When my mom asked me if I wanted to go to the movies tonight, and then told me that we were going to see R.V., I moaned and said that there was no way I was going to see it. Well, guess what! I just got home from the movie theater, and RV was a great movie. It was a fun movie! I don't know how long it's been out, but the movie theater I saw it at was packed! There were teens, little kids, adults, and older people. Everyone laughed through out pretty much the whole movie. There was two teenagers sitting next to me, and when the movie ended, one of them said to the other "You were right. It is better the third time!" In conclusion, this was a really good movie. You should see it while it's still in theaters. I'm definitely going to save my babysitting money and buy it when it comes out on DVD!

This was one of the worst movies ever made and certainly the worst for Robin Williams. Why he would sign up for this disaster is beyond me. This film deals a severe blow to Robin's reputation as a comic and actor. He should have never committed to such a project. This is the kind of film past their prime actors would do just for the money. I didn't like it, my wife hated it, the kids thought it was corny, and even grandma said it sucked. Oh if only I could get my money back from WalMart. Robin needs to apologize to all of his loyal fans for not warning us he had made this bomb. So predictable I was saying the next line before the actors. That guy from Full House needs to run and hide just based on the singing. All of his scenes were harmful to watch like bleach is to drink. Live and learn.

family man Williams , needs to get to a meeting to keep his job , and bond with his kids , and takes his family on a recreational vehicle holiday

A great film if you enjoyed the Chevy chase /national vacation movies. I watched this today with all the family and we all loved it , yes!it has a predictable plot . instead of going to Hawaii for a summer holiday ,A typical suburban middle class family , cross the USA in a RV (recreational vehicle )driven by Williams trying to keep his job and bond with his kids before its to late and they are all grown up , but loads of belly laughs any family with similar aged children (15 , 13)to the film ,can understand .Robin Williams puts in his usual funny performance backed up by believable supporting characters in laugh-out loud, and funny toe curling moments , most of the jokes worked well and you will finish watching with a smile on your face Don't be put off by the negative comments and see it soon !

Blue Poo?

posted on 27 Jun 2009

This movie kept playing on the TV in our cabin aboard the Disney Magic. The scene with the sewage was very odd. It was blue. bright Ultramat blue. I wondered if this is how they filmed the scene and changed the color later, but I still don't know why they would show the movie with it all blue instead of natural brown. it didn't have quite the same impact. At first I thought it may have been because we were in a Disney venue, but there were other shows being aired that had far worse content unaltered. I wondered if anyone else had seen blue poop in this movie.Loved the movie in spite of quite a few plot holes and obvious continuity problems. It was much better than I expected and being an RV owner, it all hit a bit too close to home. The part dealing with the sewage fountain was one we lived in Palm Springs with disgusted neighbors looking on.

Entertaining but Silly

The Salvation of This Movie is the Actor Robin Williams. RV is an entertaining Movie and simultaneously very silly, inside the Movie they try to form the message of the Tolerance towards the others treating itself of showing the honesty of certain persons who can appear us in the way, which can give us help without nothing type of Interest. In Latin America there is called: " The Mad Vacations on Wheels " The History seems to me to be slightly original but also exaggerated in quite his angles.Actually notice very empty to this Movie. The Salvation of it really is: "Robin Williams". I do not recommend her

Robin Williams in Middle Age

posted on 15 Jun 2009

This is a formula movie for middle age and Robin Williams fills that bill here. While there is nothing wrong with Williams, he seems restrained a bit in this movie. This is not the free wheeling Williams who had boundless youthful energy anymore, at least not here. There is way too much potty humor early on & then once the movie finally passes gas on most of it, there are only little sparks of what could have been a funnier movie. Towards the end, there is some light moralizing about family life but it comes off as a little trite. The cast around Williams is OK in this. The main women are in their 40's and the kids actually are quite believable in this roles which is not the norm in this genre. When I see it, this film comes off in the middle because I get the feeling at the end that it could have been better. The script lets the players down by not producing a chance to really show all their talents.

So funny...you should check it out for sure

Honestly, it is what it is...pure fun! Don't think too much into it, just laugh and enjoy. This is the perfect example of a family fun comedy. Robin Williams is perfect and it reminded me of the Mrs. Doubtfire days. Young or old, everyone will enjoy. I saw it during a screening and laughed until I was in tears. Its not an Oscar worthy movie, but I don't think that was the point of making it. With gas prices so high, why not enjoy a vicarious road trip. If you have ever traveled in an RV this movie will surely hit home. If you haven't, then this movie might encourage you to. Its fun, family adventure that will bring out the giggles in all.

Hilarious shocker!! Love it

Maybe i'm just a sucker for light-hearted comedies like these, but for some strange reason, this movie left a real impression on me. I've seen this movie countless times, but it just never gets old. Maybe it's the lovable aura of all the characters, or the hilarious gags and predicaments they keep finding themselves in, but this movie has something special about it. Overall, the plot was not overwhelming, but enough to make it on my favorite movie list. It's the average story of a workaholic father, a rebellious daughter, a wanna-be tough son, and a taken for granted wife, yet it shows that simplicity can still go a long way! Definitely a must-see for the entire family!...it will not disappoint..take my word for it;-)

Trivia for RV (2006)

posted on 05 Jun 2009

In the bathroom where Robin Willams (aka Mork from Ork) goes to in the RV camp site, you can clearly see "P.O.E" "O.P.E" on the wall of the bathroom this is a references to the film "Rasing Arizona" in which you also see this spray painted on the mirror of a gas station bathroom. In the film "rasing Arizona" when you see "P.O.E" "O.P.E" in the bathroom it is in reference to Kubric's "Dr. Strangelove," in which Gen. Ripper wouldn't reveal the recall code for the bombers. He had scribbled on a tablet: "purity of essence, piece on earth," as well as anagrams of POE, OPE. Which means the graffiti in the bathroom in "RV" is a reference to the same bathroom graffiti as "Raising Arizona" which was a reference to "Dr. Strangeglove"

Funny Movie

I loved the movie it was just hilarious. Great family movie. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes movies with Robin Williams, comedy movies and family movies. My mom and me both like it. MY favorite part was when he drove the R V up the mountain and trying to get it to go downhill off a rock. I like all of it. I also liked the part when the RV rolled into the lake and then when he was riding his bike. It was funny too when they kept trying to avoid the other family they meet on the road but when their kids saw each other they were just amazed by them and they began to really like them. It was also funny when they had to block the wheels so that it wouldn't go backward but a couple times they forgot them then it rolled back a couple times. They didn't have back breaks or park. But over all its a really good movie

Good Family Movie, Robin Williams still has it!

Robin Williams still has what it takes to make me laugh. This was a wonderful movie that I as a 30 year old Father of 4 can totally relate too. There are only 2 times when the language caught me off guard, cussing and only 1 time when I thought I would have to put my hands over my sons eyes. I really enjoyed this film and so will you. Jeff Bridges is another one of my favorite actors and hits a home-run as a supporting actor. It really was a good time and my kids all loved the movie. My kids ages range from 11 to 5 years and they all enjoyed the film. There was a lot to learn from this film. Colorado needs to be in more films. Beautiful mountain views and a great lake make for the perfect setting for a family breakthrough vacation.

A hilarious family film.

Very, very odd...A lot of people didn't like this movie. A lot of people thought it was a dud, or that it wasn't funny.Maybe I'm just weird, or maybe I simply don't rent that many comedies (which is actually true), but I thought this was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time.I wasn't the only one, either. My kids laughed and laughed and laughed. My wife laughed and laughed and laughed. And afterward, most of the conversation between my wife and myself was about how funny this movie was.Maybe you have to be a family-type person to really appreciate this movie. Is it a perfect movie? No. Is it a super-award-winner? No. And like I say, maybe we're strange. But we thought this film was hilarious.
