Visitor Reviews
A no boundaries over-the-top comedy.
posted on 24 Aug 2009SCARY MOVIE is not scary; but it is hilarious. Keenen Ivory Wayans directs and his brothers Shawn and Marlon write. After a beautiful classmate(Carmen Electra)is murdered; a clueless group of friends realize that there is a serial killer among them. Laugh out loud funny. Is this a spoof of a satire or a satire of a spoof? A man is accidentally killed and the body is disposed of...while a masked stalker likes to strike terror among the misguided teens. Cindy Campbell(Anna Faris)and her close friend Brenda(Regina Hall)try to comfort their friends as well as stay one step ahead of the killer.Strong crude sexual humor, violence, vulgar language and depiction of drug use guarantees an R rating. The cast also features: Dave Sheridan, Jon Abrahams, Cheri Oteri, Shannon Elizabeth, Marlon and Shawn Wayans.
Something You'd Probably Expect From Troma Films
posted on 18 Aug 2009I have to admit it, the film was funny. The film mainly used dick and fart jokes, so some people would probably find this pretty nasty or dumb.
Luckily, I'm not the type of person that would be easily offended by this.
So, see it if you think dick and fart jokes are funny. If you can't stand those type of jokes or Ms. Mann's testicles, I would suggest to skip this one.Stars: 3 1/2 out of 5
One Of The Funniest Movies Ever!
posted on 12 Aug 2009When I first saw this movie, I laughed so hard, I could have farted blood. I'm serious. One of the very few movies that actually matches up to this one is "Not Another Teen Movie", which in my opinion was the funniest movie of 2001. Now, in this movie, you see a popular girl named Cindy, whose friends are being stalked by a psychotic serial killer. The killer makes strange telephone calls, like in "Student Bodies", which was spoofed in this film. Among the movies that were spoofed, were The Matrix, The Shining, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Scream 1 and 2.You'll love this film, as it is extremely funny, (in fact, this movie actually defines funny, which is quite a compliment.) Nowadays, directors think that mediocre love stories and sequels of very good movies should be made, so they can botch up the whole franchise. Is making way too many sequels, really necessary? No! If you really like this film, you should check out Jack Frost, (1997) and Jack Frost II: Revenge Of The Mutant Killer Snowman. (2000)
Oh s**t, son! I'm on t.v.! First Cops, now this?!?!
posted on 12 Aug 2009I saw this in the movies, I wondered why everyone thought it was so funny. It wasn't until I saw it on DVD that I then began to appreciate it somewhat. In a nutshell, it's what Airplane! was to disaster movies, only here it's lampooning horror movies. A lot of the jokes fall face first leaving the starting line but a lot of it is actually pretty funny. I especially liked it when the killer started freestyle rappin'. That was hilarious. And it's incredible that the MPAA, fascists that they are, let them get away with as much as they did. They do stuff here that's just wrong. But a funny wrong, ya know? Watch it straight or tore up, it don't matter. And skip the sequel, believe me you'll live. Rating: *** out of *****.
The funniest film in the World!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
posted on 07 Aug 2009Whats up everybody!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!Im going to write about the best film in the World!!!!!!!!This film is funny , hilarious and "scary".We just want to say that if you didnt see this film you are losing a great film. They play with the charachters and some films like "Scream","I know what you did last Summer"and"Blair witch".The main charachter is the killer from "Scream 1, 2 and 3.Hes a good actor and must win an Oscar.
How did they get away with some of that stuff?
posted on 06 Aug 2009Well, I must admit, the only reason I went to see Scary Movie was because I wanted to see the trailer for "Highlander:Endgame" (it was awesome, btw). Let me just say this movie surprised me a bit.I found myself laughing throughout and just simply astonished at some of the things the Wayans Brothers got away with. This movie requires you leave your brain in the car and just enjoy good, ridiculous grossed out fun. If you do that, you'll be fine. If you think too much, you won't enjoy this movie.Would I see it again? Yeah, I would, but this time it would be because I want to laugh. Scary Movie pulls in recognizable scenes from Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Sixth Sense. Since the horror genre has always been a little silly anyway, it made perfect sense that this spoof would do such a fantastic job.Wayans Brothers, you did an outstanding job at this one.
Satirical and immature... overall, a great comedy
posted on 03 Aug 2009If you're someone who loves the satire genre and doesn't mind a venture into the immature, this movie is right up your alley. It takes a nice blend of recent horror flicks and exploits every nook and cranny of them for a cheap laugh. While the plot itself was somewhat twisted (people who didn't see Scream may have no idea what the plot is) it was worth following just to see the antics around every corner. I was looking forward to buying it on the way out of the theater. Definitely one to give at least a fair chance no matter what your take on recent horror films is.
The Wayans disappointed me
posted on 02 Aug 2009I have loved the Wayans' sense of humor all the way back to when Keenan was in "Hollywood Shuffle". "Menace to South Central" is one of my favorite comedies. But this movie made me want to ask for a refund. This movie was not funny beyond the previews I had already seen on TV. If you laughed at them, be happy with that and save your money. You have seen every funny part in the film..I liked Shorty a lot, especially the way he referred to everyone as, "Son", even the female characters. For everyone who has praised this movie so far, you are entitled to your opinion. I strongly disagree with you. This movie was terrible.
what's the big deal?
posted on 01 Aug 2009THE PLOT: There wasn't much of one... It's basically about these teens who accidentally kill this guy, and 2 of them go insane from it. And then, a charecter that we don't know who (I won't ruin it, but it makes no sense), starts killing people off for no apparent reason. Then, he gets away. The end.
MY OPINION: The movie was WAY overrated. Scary Movie 3 was hilarious, because it had different screenwriters. This movie was pretty much just disgusting throughout the entire thing. Skip it and move on to 3, please.
SPECIAL FEATURES: The spcieal features were almost aas bad as the movie itself (I won't go that far, because that would just be MEAN).
OVERALL RATING: D.
Immaturity at its most prevalent. But so funny!
posted on 29 Jul 2009Scary Movie is packed to the rafters with immature and potentially offensive jokes to nearly every society that we can imagine. Yet it still remains hilariously funny in its own way.The performances, made deliberately terrible are the most fantastic of all the laughs and it makes itself as a great parody.Whilst Scream was a pretty average slasher flick, with pretty average characters, Scary Movie is a pretty average comedy with intensely funny characters; sometimes the gags go a little over the top and you wonder to yourself, why in gods name are you watching this heap of trash, but all in all, not bad.
A scream!
posted on 23 Jul 2009Look, some people don't appear to like this. I can see why. The humour is at times childish, the humour is also at times adult. Even more confusing, the humour is sometimes both at once. What you need to watch this is a nice open mind and no hang-ups about bodily functions, body parts ('wet bits' or bloody bits) or jokes at the expense of various stereo-types.BTW, the jokes are at the expense of the /stereo-types/ (of blacks, gays, mentally challenged, vain, etc, etc) not at the /geno-types/ (all blacks, all gays, all those mentally challenged, all vain people). You're adult (otherwise you couldn't watch this film) so I imagine you can make the distinction.Burn me at a stake, already, but I liked it. I roared with laughter (luckily, so did the rest of the audience), and I don't think it's made me a bad person. Have fun watching it, bend like the willow a little, have a laugh.
Nonsense Glorified !
posted on 18 Jul 2009This is a movie that spoofs the nonsense in other movies, specifically I Know What you did Last Summer. I havent seen Scream or I Know... but the references are unmistakably funny.
The humor is downright sexist and crude, but its really hilarious when compared with the original movie. The scenes where the case is told that 'someone knows' is downright crude and rubbish... and is hilarious in the creativity of the story writers. The opening sequence is another classic in spoofing. This movie is made on the lines of Mad comix, so if you like the humor there, you will enjoy this.
Best seen with a group of friends, preferably male, and to be seen after seeing I Know... and Scream. Ideal for a weekend of nonsense and chilling at home!
Trailer looked funny, what I didn't bargain for was offensively obscene.
posted on 15 Jul 2009The trailer to me indicated a spoof of the horror film genre, done in a light and humorous fashion that our family could watch and enjoy together. Ratings in Canada were different than the US, and my 11 and 14-year-old attended with my husband and myself. What the trailer did not indicate was the extremely crude and offensive sexual content, far beyond what we considered allowable in a movie rated such as it was. We were thoroughly disgusted, from scenes of male climax to exposed body parts in a bathroom cubicle. We were shocked beyond description, and had much to explain to our 11-year-old in particular. Families, stay away from this one!
It's Scary really
posted on 14 Jul 2009Scary movie is hilarious! I laughed the intire movie. By just looking at the case you can tell it's funny. Scream was so funny when he smoked pot. It may be a very crude but it has parts where you'll laugh your... off. My favorite part was when he threw the Votca at the guys head when he really wasn't dead. The Waynes brothers rock. See SCARY MOVIE!!!!!!!!!
Comedy & Horror Will Never Mix............
posted on 14 Jul 2009Scary Movie is basically a lame parody of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Like the manufactuer's description, if youv'e seen Scream and I Know What You Did, then you know the whole movie. There are a few funny jokes, especailly at the beggining with Carmen Electra, but the movie gets weirder as it continues.Basically the only reason someone would ever buy this crap would be either they really hated the two originals or just really, really like them. The killer, who some call Smiley due to his smiling scream mask at Halloween, however, is alright at playing Mr. Ghostface. So in otherwords, this movie is low in the Spaceballs level. Please, watch the originals if you want a good slaher flick. Or go get a comedy like Mr. Deeds or Anger Management. Comedy and Horror just don't mix.
Whats wrong with you people??
posted on 13 Jul 2009Whoever said this movie is pathetic, or waste of time etc, whats ur problem, this movie was not made to win any awards, or teach important lesson, its simply there to make u laugh and ridicul those stupid "horror" movies. So what if there is lot of sex related humor, who cares, its funny, we all need break time to relax and laugh, and this movie is just for that. Geez, give it a break and chill.
Ratings 10/10 (for being really stupidly funny)
Uhhhhh, OK.
posted on 08 Jul 2009This would be a great movie to watch with a large group of people. THere are far too many, shall we say, disgusting parts to actually sit down and watch this one on your own. While Scary Movie does have its moments (The I know what you did last summer (or Halloween) scene is great), there are enough other problems to overshadow the funny parts. Had they left out most of the sex jokes, it would have been a much better movie.

Hold my gum, Kenny ---- ptui
posted on 26 Aug 2009Very funny Wayans brothers parody of the teen slasher movies so popular the last 15 years. My favorite character in the movie is gail hailstorm played by Cheri Oteri. She plays your typical arrogant loudmouthed TV reporter. The first time you see her she spots a policeman investigating the latest slashing and that's when she tells her cameraman "Hold my gum, Kenny" and spits it at him while she rushes to get her interview. She even tries to interview the slasher while he's killing a teen and he gets mad at her too and says something like "Leave me alone; I'm just doing my job." Also love the doofy character played i believe by Trevor Roberts. I don't usually like to see the mentally handicapped ridiculed but doofy is hilarious as a 25 year old make-believe cop at the high school. Has a vacuum cleaner called Christine and does not like to be disturbed while cleaning his room. It's an ensemble cast with no one person really the star. Anna Faris has a big part as Cindy the only semi-normal person in the movie and marlon wayans is great as shorty, an obnoxious black teen. Shannon Elizabeth is hilarious as buffy, a super bitchy friend of cindy's. Lots of characters in this movie that you love to hate.My favorite piece is when the killer is in Cindy's house chasing her and she calls 9-11 on her computer and when asked "nature of emergency" she types "white woman in trouble". In five seconds every cop in town is there.
