TAGLINES

One heterosexual male. 18 lesbians. His fee $10,000... each.
18 women want children. Jack is a white collar whistle-blower in need of a job.
From the director of "She's Gotta Have It" and "25th Hour," a new film about one heterosexual male and 18 lesbians.

PLOT SUMMARY

Harvard-educated biotech executive John Henry Jack Armstrong gets fired when he informs on his bosses, launching an investigation into their business dealings by the Securities & Exchange Commission. Branded a whistle-blower and therefore unemployable, Jack desperately needs to make a living. When his former girlfriend Fatima, a high powered businesswoman—and now a lesbian—offers him cash to impregnate her and her new girlfriend Alex, Jack is persuaded by the chance to make easy money. Word spreads and soon Jack is in the baby-making business at $10,000 a try. Lesbians with a desire for motherhood and the cash to spare are lining up to seek his services. But, between the attempts by his former employers to frame him for security fraud and his dubious fathering activities, Jack finds his life, all at once, becoming very complicated.

Horrible

posted on 26 Aug 2009

The worst film Spike Lee has ever made(at least that I've sat through), it was so pretentious at points(I normally never use the word, and I mean it here in the worst way possible), he tried to take on Enron, Bush, Gay relationships, Diabetis, the XFL, and the Watergate Scandal, and as always racism, in one film, and he did it all in the worst most childish, ways, not to mention the unbelievable ending in which the guy gets both the girls( I see what he was going for with that, alternative families and all, but it comes out of nowhere and just ends up looking like every mans wet-dream). Include an awful and pointless Watergate flashback, Animated Sperm with heads of the main character entering eggs of whatever female character he just slept with(who also have the female characters face),and you have got one huge piece of unfocused scatterbrain mush, and normally I like Spike Lee's films, but really, this was pretty awful.

The movie SUCKED

I absolutely did NOT like this movie! What kinds of nasty couples do you know who would get down like that!!! I think Spike Lee should stick to political education and not delve into subjects that he clearly knows nothing about. Parts of this movie were so inaccurate, that I fell asleep out of sheer disgust and disbelief at the obvious pornographic insinuations that he was trying to depict of certain lifestyles. Just because he doesn't understand different peoples preferences does not give him the right to come to his own conclusions. He, of course, is only partially to blame, I also blame myself for being silly enough to trust a friends' rave reviews of that nonsense. So now I'm out $4.10!

This was an Excercise of Stupidity

First, Let me just say I love spike lee. The 25th hour is a classic. Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, Crooklyn, Mo Betta...,4 little Girls (Doc)...brilliant. But she hate me? If this was a paper, I would give it an "F" for no thesis or organization. I mean what happen spike? You Hurt my heart. I defended you. I was with you for Girl 6, I hung in there waiting for a redeeming factor in Jungle Fever. I thought you were gaining back your ground when i saw the Summer of Sam. Watched Bamboozled and said, "Okay, I see the point." But she hate me? She hate me? Are you Serious?? I mean what the %#$@! Lesbians and white collar crime? Where is the logic? When I think of Enron, I don't think Ellen. So why spike? Why? And I watched this movie hoping that something will make me feel better about it but nope...never happened. Spoiler Alert: And the lessons or climax of the whole movie:White Collar crime is bad and all lesbians need is a good stiff...you get the point. And then Ken Lay and Ellen and Portia De Rossi all live happy every after on Coney Island. It was like is some crazy nightmare sequence. Spike, Do you even know any lesbians? How about women? Do you know any women? Because the female behavior in the film wasn't even close to any real female character of any sort as a matter of fact...No characters in the whole spectacle had any ounce of realism. This movie was one huge caricature of stereotypical, quasi-political,overstated visual rhetoric. Spike, She don't hate you. But I'm hating. Spike, come on...we got to do better than this.

I now understand why I'm laughing when comics make jokes such as "That makes about as much sense as a white person's script in a Spike Lee movie"

The movie cover makes it look like a comedy. It really wasn't all that funny. It was a drama, I suppose. It really wasn't all that dramatic. I watch movies to be entertained, and I was not entertained.Top three things I loved about this movie. 1. Papa Doc. He done well. 2. I'm hard pressed to come up with a second, so I doubt I can come up with a third.Top three things I despised about the movie. 1. The fact that I started the movie at 7:30 pm, took two short breaks, and didn't get to bed time past 10. I really thought he was wrapping it up somewhere near the second hour. 2. The end. 3. The plot.As a side note, wow. This was my first Spike Lee experience, and I have to say, I now understand why I'm laughing when comics make jokes such as "That makes about as much sense as a white person's script in a Spike Lee movie" ***SPOILER ALERT **** I thought it was hilarious that the first white man on screen kills himself, and the next white person shown is a complete and utter witch. The corrupt head of the company, white. The good judge: black. The bad judge: white. If it wasn't so obviously racist, I would take some of it to heart but it's borderline humorously bad. My first and last "joint".

Still scratching my head... but will watch it again

Let me start off by saying that I only gave the film a "3" because that was my first reaction. But I have to follow that initial reaction by saying that it could go much higher after a second watch. The reason I might rate this movie higher is that I am not entirely sure I understood everything that Spike might have been trying to say. The first reviewer dismisses the story as unrealistic and uninteresting. I, on the other hand, think that there might be much more that Spike was trying to say with this film that can only be understood if one reads between the lines. I am not an intellectual, nor am I a real movie critic, but my uneducated feeling is that this movie is laden with metaphors and social commentary that requires multiple viewings to fully understand. That being said, let me comment on the things that are much more obvious: Spike's cinematography has reached a new high with this film. That was the first thing that really struck me about the film: Spike utilizes some slick cinematography to break up the different stories contained within the film. Some might say they are a little cliché, but i was very impressed by them. The second thing that is obvious is that this is a film that Spike deeply cared about. There is a deliberate quality to the shots and attention to particular details that leaves one feeling that Spike may have had a deep emotional investment in this film. It is careful. It is precise. it is deliberate (I said that already... I know!)I am going to watch it again and see what I think of the film after second viewing. I am hopeful that it will hold up - and get better - after another viewing.

How to read this movie...

The reviews of the new Spike Lee joint went from bad to worse (Entertainment Weekly gave it an F, for whatever that's worth), so I purchased my ticket to "She Hate Me" with more than a little bit of trepidation. Admittedly, what allowed my curiosity to get the better of me and coerce me in to shelling out the AMC 25 Times Square's ridiculous $10.50 ticket price was an inner desire to witness the gruesome end to the train wreck that has ravaged Spike Lee for the past five year or so (before you stop me, I didn't see 25th Hour, which I heard from credible sources was pretty decent; leave me alone). And for the first half hour of "She Hate Me," that's exactly what I got. The overwhelming hubris; the transparent messaging; the muddled, almost blunted inside joke that leaves you on the outside. The underdeveloped crack baby conceived in a one night stand between (1) half-baked racial politics and (2) a convoluted cultural agenda that manages to reinforce the same norms that it calls into question. But somehow, Lee saves this one, making it provocative rather than tired. In this mess of a film, campy vignettes sprout up as tangential arguments surrounding a main thesis. Structuring the movie as such derails the thesis, transforming it from a coordinate plane to a topographic map with very queer landmarks. And while at first glance it might seem that Lee is playing the same role he does courtside at a Knicks game -- shouting his arse off at action of which he has marginal influence at best -- Lee's multiple divergent jeremiads are far less prescriptive than they are descriptive. The description, furthermore, is characterized by omission. We learn a lot more by what Lee chooses not to include than from what he includes. Case in point: In a film that is so mired in present-day political discourse and broaches the subject homosexuality for a great deal of its duration, not once is the issues of gay marriage touched upon. The choice not to mention this subject, which has (unnecessarily?) asserted hegemony over a queer rights agenda, leaves way for Lee to touch on topics that receive far less mainstream attention, such as alternative understandings of the family, or how the (literal) commodification of the black male body resonates across a number of frameworks. Anthony Mackie is somewhat of an acquired taste in the lead role. His acting is tight enough to be convincing, but imperfect enough to purvey the affected sense that runs rampant throughout the film. His character, Jack Armstrong, works at a pharmaceutical development company whose aim is to develop an AIDS vaccine. Once this is established, a sequence of scenes reveal to us that the vaccine has been rejected by the FDA, that one of the main scientists has committed suicide, and that higher-ups in his company are guilty of blatant insider trading. When Jack blows the whistle to the SEC, the shit deflects off of the fan and hits him in the face. He is fired and his bank account is frozen. In order to maintain the upper-class Manhattanite lifestyle he's been living, he grudgingly agrees to impregnate his ex girlfriend Fatima (Kerry Washington) and her new girlfriend Alex (Dania Ramirez). Receiving $10,000 for impregnating the two of them, Fatima convinces Jack to pony up his one trick to eighteen of her thirtysomething lesbian friends at 10G's a nut. Aronofsky-esque drug ingestion shots abound as Jack pops Viagra and Redbull to maintain stamina at these pregnancy parties, where five women each get a turn with Jack.A few critics have taken issue with the film's portrait of lesbianism, claiming that it suggests that lesbianism is essentially heterosexuality-without-the-dudes. Reinforcing this viewpoint are "She Hate Me's" leading ladies, two bougie "lipstick" lesbians of color -- a light-skinned black woman and a Dominican mami -- with totally hellacious bodies, dude. But the lesbian representation isn't homogenous; rather, it runs the gamut and transcends racial borders. It's concurrently totally Hollywood and anti-Hollywood."She Hate Me" wraps itself up in so many questions that it's completely unable to resolve, and that's part of what makes it succeed. It diagnoses a politics that is weighted down by its anfractuous periphery and conflicted center. But in its articulation of these questions, it forces us to laugh at what makes us uncomfortable. It belies an almost tangible confusion in any attempt at reconciling its own identity, and unexpectedly brings us to a denouement that's ordo ab chao phrased through a deus ex machina. And like the XFL player from whom the film takes its name, what reads like a grammatical disaster conceals witty commentary on problematics that compromise identity.

Absolute Garbage

This was an absolutely unrealistic horrible film. Spike Lee is truly the black Oliver Stone. Along with the usual stereotyping conspiracy theories, he manages to completely slam lesbians. This guy ranks up there with Woody Allen as directors that some retards keep giving money to make movies that pretty much only white, yuppie liberals pay to see, and subsequently rave over in some knee-jerk reaction to their guilt for the plight of black Americans. On top of this, from just an editing and writing standpoint, this film was just boring - long meaningless dialog, some lame jazz soundtrack, and a jerky overall flow. The only Spike Lee Junk that I ever even remotely found slightly entertaining was Do the Right Thing - primarily because of a handful of the colorful characters. But all in all, another message movie - how stupid does he thing people are? Does he really think he is teaching us something? We aren't all second graders. You've got a love someone as screwed up to turn the Enron type scandals and even Watergate into a race issues. Early John Water films are more entertaining than this trash. Do these movies actually make any money?

She Hates Me DVD

This film depicted a situation that was quite radical; but given the appropriate circumstances, the results were incredible. The moral of the story may be different for different people, but I got it. This DVD is a permanent addition to my collection. For the right crowd (no children), it's a great "video party" movie.

Not really a comedy.

posted on 20 May 2009

for some strange reason this movie was classified as a comedy, but its really not. it has some amusing moments, but its more a drama then a comedy. and its actually not that bad. the movie tells the story of a man who lost his job because he blew the whistle on his company. he's now unemployed and cannot get a job because his old boss burned him everywhere, so he is convinced by his lesbian ex to help lesbians get pregnant.the movie is more an attempt to discuss the fate of the ones who blew the whistle, and some vague discussion of the morality behind impregnating about 18 women.now, the discussion is not really very deep or interesting, you get the general idea that the director and writer think that impregnating that many women is somehow morally wrong, even tho there is a direct comparison to regular sperm donors. so maybe someone was trying to imply that donating sperm is wrong? maybe.. and as for the whole whistle blowing thing, well, i have never seen any movie talking about the fate of the man who blew the whistle and was abandoned by the government and society, so it was interesting.so , to sum it up, its interesting enough to watch , as long as you don't expect too much.

WORST Spike Lee Film EVER- I was so ashamed for him as I watched it

Finally watched this on cable and was so glad I never paid money to see or rent this film. A weird offensive [...] unbelievable movie about an upper class Black businessman who is somehow forced through circumstance to sell his sperm to upper class ethnic/mostly Black lesbians who pay $10,000 a pop. REALLY?????? It was so DUMB. It was [...]- the sex scenes seemed to be for the male gaze and the lipstick lesbians all seemed to enjoy the mighty powerful expensive magical penis. I didn't get it at all. Also, there is this side story about the male lead being discriminated against in the workplace by The Man and evil corrupt Big Business preventing a cure for AIDs. I'M NOT KIDDING. This movie is ridiculous. An embarassment. What is the message? What is the purpose? Who was the target audience? What exactly was supposed to be entertaining? A tawdry mess of a story. Devoid of any soul. If there was a moral or lesson, it was lost because the main character and all the other characters were so hopelessly flawed and unattractive- whenever they stopped screwing around to pontificate, I just didn't care. And most of what they said just didn't make sense anyway. I love you Spike but this film is horrible. Spike Lee's films usually have depth and "authentic"/realistic characters BUT NOT THIS TIME. It was almost like Spike knew it because everybody was weirdly "fake" pretty/glamorous looking. All style, NO substance. Even the soundtrack sucked!!!!!

Will the real Spike Lee please stand up...

So the anti-Bush campaign that makes up the first 45 minutes or so of the movie are pretty clear. Even the attack on Bush's anti-gay tendencies are pretty clear. What's not clear is what the movie's trying to do. Jack is a corporate employee with serious potential who finds himself unemployed because of his refusal to ignore the massive corporate corruption with which he suddenly finds himself surrounded. So then he goes home to his fancy apartment, which he can no longer afford to maintain, and then has to deal with the torturous proposal of impregnating lesbians at $10,000 a piece. The most difficult endeavor that the movie takes on is in trying to make us believe that Jack was actually conflicted about all of this, and it fails miserably. There a nonsensical subplot about him still being upset about his ex-girlfriend, the lesbian who is bringing all of her lesbian friends to be impregnated by Jack, but only after her. Keep in mind that their breakup happened FOUR YEARS EARLIER, and not only was he belligerently furious to come home and find his sexy girlfriend having sex with another sexy woman, but he hasn't gotten over it four years later. They actually get into screaming arguments in the movie about this ancient history between themselves. I'm reminded of one of Julia Roberts' many great lines from Closer – "What are you, 12?"So while he's not busy acting like a junior high school kid who's heartbroken about some girl who cheated on him, he's having sex with whole lines of lesbians and trying to act like it's just hell to him. Please. At the risk of sounding like some typical jerk, for such a thing to be torturous to a man we need to have a real, real good reason for him to hate doing it, and still being upset about a relationship that ended nearly half a decade earlier isn't even close to reason enough.I can accept that the movie wants to suggest that this guy genuinely loved his girlfriend and truly feels like he has lost the love of his life, but let me tell you one thing. Showing a guy suffer through Every Man's Fantasy is not the way to do it. At all. Unless, of course, you have some ulterior political motive, but that's just not Spike Lee's style, right? Right? I won't spend much time talking about the ludicrous premise about the lesbians. Whether you've seen the movie or not, you probably already know all about it. The problem is that you also come into the movie already knowing what a socially and politically conscious filmmaker Spike Lee is. We know that he is going to be making political statements in the film, and some of them are clear while others are not, unless Spike has completely lost all sense of balance. There are scenes where it is increasingly obvious what social ills are being dealt with, such as the terrible scene where Jack has some wooden and massively unrealistic conversation with his friend, who is trying to make money donating sperm. It's a god-awful scene, but it's relatively clear what is being said. I could, of course, come up with some pretty solid theories about what is being said about the homosexual content of the film, how Jack the black man is forced to descend to that level, but it is such a gigantic portion of the film that it even overshadows that picture of Bush on the $3 bill at the end of the opening credits, and that's a difficult image to overshadow. Lee puts so much stock into the lesbians in this movie that it borders on low- grade soft porn. At one point in the movie, while bike riding together, Jack's brother gives him a bright, sparkling gem of advice – get a vasectomy and call it a day. Now, there are two things that could lead a man to give such advice to his brother. First, it could be because he's been having too much sex, or second, it could be because he's making ten thousand dollars at a time doing it. Either way, it's a good reason never to take advice from your brother again. Jack, of course, reacts by throwing a temper tantrum like an 8 year old kid, resulting in one of the great many scenes that made me want to put a pot over my head and start beating on it with a serving ladle. One of the biggest problems with the movie is that not only does it bore and irritate but it deliberately insults the audience. Granted, I didn't know a lot of the details about some of the homages that are made in the film, such as the XFL player that inspired the title of the film and the security guard who exposed the Watergate break-in and ruined his own life in the process. I can understand if Lee wants us to be aware of what he's talking about, but he literally stops his movie to put these stories up on billboards and then hits us over the head with them. By the end of the movie I was literally standing up, pacing back and forth I was so irritated and desperate for it to end. There are times when I wish I didn't have this determination to finish watching movies, even the abysmally terrible ones. The really sad thing about She Hate Me is that it isn't even not very good for a Spike Lee film, this is just a bad movie overall. It's almost weird to think that it was directed by the same man that directed true classics like Do The Right Thing, one of my all time favorite films. She Hate Me is Spike Lee's version of Spielberg's 1941, but worse.Much worse.

God Awful

Spike Lee is probably one of the worst working filmmakers living today. He has no sense of direction, staging, music insight, storytelling, editing, or otherwise film-making in general. This movie is just another piece of garbage made by Spike. I hate to be so harsh, but what did he think thinking this would actually be an interesting funny film? The worst part of Spike's film is his inadequate placement of music, and how bad is that music? Just awful. Story makes no sense. Why do we have to actually see the sex scenes? There is no reason for it whatsoever and it is painful to watch.Don't bother.. get dumb and dumberer instead (Part two) and I left the theater watching that.

consistently underrated

posted on 01 Mar 2009

Most Spike Lee joints are rated in the 6-7 range, with the three top-rated films being Malcolm X at 7.5 and Do the Right Thing tied with 25th Hour at a 7.8 rating. So while i feel it is an accurate depiction of what his better films are, it seems strange that a man "voted the 48th Greatest Director of all time by Entertainment Weekly" has no movie rated at least a 9 (and I'd hope at least a 10). I think it says more about IMDb users than it does about the actual films. For instance, I think history will show that Return of the King does not belong in any all-time top-ten list (and that it's not even the best Lord of the Rings movie), but it's currently listed at number 4 on IMDb, above Casablanca. Casablanca is often cited as the greatest film of all time, but i think it's losing its grip in the IMDb polls because (1) its not recent and (2) its not violent. My general commentary aside, it disappoints me that She Hate Me has not attained even the 6-7 vote range on IMDb. Again, I think it says less about the film and more about the people watching it and voting on it. The premise of the film is indeed a bit fantastical and its portrayal is biased towards the male-gaze as most films are, but its nuanced performances give it a sensitivity and an intensity I think few films possess in this or any age. My hat is off to Anthony Mackie and Kerry Washington for their impeccable leads, but i feel that every supporting performance was on the mark down to the mere door man (played by Jamel Debbouze, whom you may recognize from the role of Lucien in Amelie). The subject matter and its handling are probably the real reasons this film is only rated at a disappointing 5.0. Spike's intelligent and and yet down-to-earth approach probably alienated both sides of the movie-going spectrum: *possible spoiler* (1) The only unabashed violence in this film is the suicide of Dr. Schiller and the incurred deaths of the people below him. Not exactly popcorn fare. (2) Think about the context of the title of the film... Spike Lee does not cater to the stock intelligentsia. He picks a controversial subject and approaches it from a challenging angle, but he uses the language of everyday life to present it.In short, I think a person's reasons for not liking the film do more to betray their ignorance or their prejudice than to actually say anything about the quality of it. Then again, what do i know? I only gave Return of the King a 7.0 rating. I must be an idiot.

Could Spike have multiple personality disorder?

That's what I found myself wondering as I watched She Hate Me. What else could account for the improbability that the same filmmaker gave us both the magnificent 25th Hour and this dreadful film?I won't dwell on the details, but to summarize: The film has two main plot lines. One paints a cartoonish picture of corporate corruption at a pharmaceutical company, complete with "business talk" as mis-imagined by a writer who clearly has never worked in such environments. Ellen Barkin and Woody Harrelson waste themselves in these scenes. The second plot line is where this train wreck gets truly sad. Jack Armstrong, our protagonist, agrees to impregnate his ex-fiancée (Fatima, who has since come out as a lesbian) and her lover for money. Fatima decides to refer other lesbians to Jack for the a cut of the fee. We are expected to believe that nearly every one of these gay women elects to be impregnated via intercourse with Jack, rather than by artificial insemination. Along the way we are subjected to a truly embarrassing fantasy confrontation between Watergate security guard Frank Wills and most the the upper echelon of the Nixon White House. The saddest aspect of She Hate Me is that so many talents (John Turturro, Ossie Davis, Isiah Whitlock), none greater than the wonderful composer Terence Blanchard, were wasted on a script that is at once ridiculous and insulting to the viewer.Spike, get some therapy.

A Remarkable Film You Don't Want To Miss

posted on 25 Jan 2009

This was a really remarkable film and I am astonished that it didn't get more critical acclaim or advertising related to the film. It's a great movie. It's not just a film about a man who goes around impregnanting lesbians as the blurb on the back of the box kinda makes the film seem. The film stars Anthony Mackie, a new actor who portrays Jack Armstrong. At the beginning of the film it seems as if Jack has got it going on. He is the vice-president of a pharmaceutical corporation, lives in a nice apartment, and is ivy league educated. He is a brother that has it all together in every department--except in the romance department. After his company goes into a downward spiral--in which he is fingered for the downfall, he lets an ex girlfriend convince him to donate his sperm to her and her girlfriend at $5,000 a piece. When his assetts are frozen and he loses his job, he feels compell to continue to sell his sperm. With his ex-girlfriend as his manager, she gets him $10,000 a pop. This film is wonderful and thought provoking. Jack gets into a bit of legal trouble and he starts to look to his religion, his family and other factors when it comes to whether or not he will continue to sell his manhood. There were several things about this film that irked me a bit, but that is why I like Spike's films because there is always something that bothers me and makes me think. When the women went into labor the scene was so over the top and they were all screaming and hollering. However, I appreciate the details in the film. For instance, when Jack was having sex with the various women, he made love to each one of them a different way. He also developed a newfound friendship with his ex-girlfriend who left him for another woman years prior. I recommend this film to anyone who wants to see a real thought provoking film. It also has a lot to do with whistleblowing and the state of the world today.

Spike Lee Disjointed: Too Many Ideas in One Film

posted on 19 Jan 2009

Whatever the film's real message or satire behind this messy collection of ideas may be, `She Hate Me' is definitely a Spike Lee film. There have been common threads that run through the works that Spike Lee had done in the past, and they are deeply related to racial consciousness. It is also true he has been trying to expand his perspectives and even when he shot films like `25th Hour' you will not miss the Spike Lee touch in there.

In his `She Hate Me' you can find his unmistakable touches, for example, in the jazzy music, the (occasionally used) grainy images of 16 mm film, or frequent close-ups of the actors. You can also hear his 'voices' or messages, which are as honest and candid as the ones you heard in the 80s, but what he is trying to say remains unclear from the first to the end.

Consider this. In `She Hate Me' you will meet a gentle businessman `Jack' (brilliant Anthony Mackie) working for a big pharmaceutical company, who comes to know that the data submitted to FDA were actually rigged. He becomes a `whistle blower' but in consequence he is fired.

Then this story about corrupt business jumps to a totally unexpected stage. That is, `Jack' finds his former girlfriend waiting for him at home, who is in fact a lesbian. Knowing that Jack needs money, she offers a $10,000 deal to him, in order to have a baby - well, in fact two babies, one for her and another for her lover. Now I don't think I have to write how she gets what she wants except that there are some silly cartoon-like sequences which show how insemination occur.

Some reviewers say this film, if flawed, would be at least food for thought. Certainly there are some parts that could be intelligent commentaries on such issues as sexuality and parentage, but the film completely fails to convince us of its logical and coherent views on our society. For instance, the film warns us of the danger of being a whistle blower. Fine, but in what way does it related to the story of a man sleeping with as many as 18 ladies (including Monica Bellucci)?

But probably the biggest weakness of `She Hate Me' is its superficial descriptionf of women. See, for example, how all the `clients' of Jack (presumably lesbian) are depicted as if they are sexually aroused (and pleased) while in bed with Jack. For all his undeniable talent for tackling the social issues, Lee is not known for drawing convincing portraits of women, and I can say he has not changed much. I understand homosexuals and lesbians have their own problems, but I'm sure they would not even try to solve them in the way Lee shows unashamedly to make us laugh.

Lee managed to gather an interesting list of supporting actors including Ellen Barkin, Jim Brown, Ossie Davis, Brian Dennehy, Woody Harrelson, Bai Ling, Lonette McKee, Q-Tip, Dania Ramirez, and John Turturro. Among them, John Turturro shows again his brilliant performance which makes the flat character he plays a truly flesh-and-blood person. Surely `She Hate Me' is worth watching for the skills of the cast and crew involved in it, but they could have been used in much more efficient way with more coherent story than they are now.

Why Spike....Why?

I really have never commented on a forum pertaining to a movie in my entire life, but after watching this film, I was compelled to write something about what I watched. spike has done the worst film I have ever seen in my life. Coming from someone that I thought was a good writer, he just lost all direction, what a waste of time and art. I think that it needed so much work, and the premise is horrible, and unrealistic. Spike please try again, and don't assume or think for us the next time. Its just something that I would never see again! Also bad acting, and a waste of a handsome guy on film. I found the main character intriguing, smart, even comical, but he had nothing to work with. I left my television and VCR with sadness on the state of the world, and the mindset of Spike Lee.

Although this movie "She Hates Me" didnt do well at the box office, when it was out. This is a very well done movie by spike lee it brings up issues that has never been thought of this way. or if it has been thought of it has not been put in a black film quite like this. (smile)

I dont believe he was given enough credit for this one and personally I dont think many in the film world was ready for this one lol. This film is amazing I personally thought also this was one of his better films, right up there with the popular ones spike has done. I particularly took note of and enjoyed the powerful role women has in she hates me.

I absolutely love this film! I hate when people can not take a good movie a really give it the credit it deserves. I have watch so many BS movies that have went to the big screen and made millions of dollars and they were horrible. But think about it? It's all about the marketing. And this movie was and will be that little known GEM of a movie that has so many points of views in it that makes you think. I really didn't get Spike Lee movies until I became a little more mature in how people truely are and how this world really works. When your young and dumb you don't see it or face it as much. But, like in this movie Spike puts in government corruption, sex, discrimination, sexism and a world wind of provoking thought. When I first heard about the movie, I was not given any spoilers. I was just told "You gotta see this movie". And every since then, I have been hooked. Plus, Terance Blanchard (music composer) never ever fails to put this movie right were it belongs in the sense of mood and feel. Which only adds to the movie. I could go on and on about the various different breakdowns of how good this movie was. But I don't want to include any spoilers so I will keep it to myself. But, for the most part this movie is so multi-dimensional that, whoever gave this movie less than 3 or 4 stars needs to see a doctor. Because plain and simple, you just can't look at this movie as being one thing. That's what Spike Lee has been doing in his movies and that's what he will continue to do. Despite his hater critics and those people who loves being untrue to reality and themselves. My only question for any dumb a** haters about this movie is? What, you don't think that something like this has ever happened or couldn't happen? Because damnit, it could and you never know, it probably already has. We don't entirely know the way of this world and how demonic, perverse and vile we can be when we are faced with certain situations. So, my final thought to you haters are. Don't judge so quickly just to satisfy your flat 1 dimensiona minds. GREAT JOB SPIKE LEE!!!
