This Silent Trigger has run out of bullets...
posted on 07 Feb 2009Silent Trigger! The movie directed by Russell Malcahy (Ricochet) has given us a movie which in my case has run out of bullets...The whole story in this film was very confusing.. The point is, I saw this this movie twice and still didn't get the plot because there's so many events keep occurring around two Assassins (Dolph Lungdren and Gina Bellman) living in some high rise blocks of flat as they await orders to assassinate someone.Although this is not one of Dolph's best, he may be an action hero but someone's gonna give this guy a decent script. If he wants to be bigger than Schwarzenegger, he's gotta find something new rather than do something which is not really entertaining..!
What a waste of everything.
posted on 04 Oct 2008Whoever thought it was a good idea to make this film ought to be shot. The plot makes no sense at all, one minute these two characters are in a lift shaft, the next, they are in the middle of the jungle, then a desert, then back into the lift shaft again. They seem to change roles a lot too. One minute the lead guy is a friendly Russian, the next, he is chaining people to toilets and shooting his way to god knows where. The story also makes no sense at all, and the acting is very dodgy at places. If you chained someone to a toilet, surely to god you would hear them ripping it off the wall and dragging it PAST you as they escape?WHAT WERE THEY THINKING WHEN THEY MADE THIS???????????????
Better than expected
posted on 08 Sep 2008I tend to have a fairly poor opinion of movies of this sort, meaning inconsequential action movies. This category would include the films of Steven Segal, Jean-Claude van Damme, Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the like. With a few notable exceptions ("The Terminator," for example) these are forgettable time fillers. I was aware Dolph Lundgren made action movies, though I always associate him with his role as the Russian behemoth from "Rocky IV." Little did I realize he is Swedish, not Russian (the name should have been my first clue), is a martial artist and he is reputedly very intelligent; he holds a master's degree in chemical engineering and had a Fulbright Scholarship to go to MIT. Needless to say, I have newfound respect for Mr. Lundgren. Unfortunately, high intelligence does not necessarily always translate into great films. Such is the case with "Silent Trigger," a mostly forgettable tale about an assassin (Lundgren), who has an epiphany, decides he is the bad guy and refuses to shoot a high-profile target. This leads his spotter (played by the marvelous Gina Bellman) to be ordered to dispose of him. We jump forward to another opportunity for assassination, where Shooter and Spotter again encounter one another. I am impressed by some of the cinematography, and the understated, dark atmosphere sometimes resembles a horror or suspense film. The violence is quite bloody and strong in this, which is something to which I am not very accustomed. I primarily watched this to see Gina Bellman, who is so good as Jane on "Coupling." Her physically demanding role here as an assassin is much different, though she is just as likeable. Does Dolph choose roles that do not require him to emote, or is he typecast in these roles? Either way, there isn't much opportunity for him to show his chops here, though we don't go into this film expectin4g as much. The finale is rather satisfying, so I would recommend if you are in the mood for a half-way decent action flick. The DVD offers a good transfer and a few different audio and subtitle options. It is also full screen pan-and-scan, which seems fitting for the caliber of the film.
Substandard Fare From the King of Action!
posted on 15 Aug 2008This particular Lundgren movie was slow moving and dull. Through the whole movie you're waiting for Lungren's rock em', sock em' action. There's just not enough of it in this flick. Dolph is too quiet and to boring. They just threw the broad in. She really doesn't fit in at all. The only good thing about this movie is Dolph Lundgren's Swedish good looks; and for that reason only ,I give it two stars.
Slow but good looking.
posted on 12 Jul 2008In my opinion, this movie is pretty uneventful and somewhat boring. It's okay to let long time pass between action sequences if you know how to fill the "downtime" well... This movie doesnt. However, this movie utilize some of the best lighting I've seen. And considering this is sort of a B-movie, it's simply amazing. They've used lots of colored, cleverly placed, spotlights to enhance the walls. You could almost be fooled to think the movie was designed by an interior decorator. So, if you are interested in the technical aspect of moviemaking, it's worth seeing just for this reason. This movie should be an excelent guide movie on how to use spectacular lighting the correct way if anyone are teaching a course in this. So, to sum up, slow movie, some stupid scenes that people have mentioned here before, but nice lighting makes it worth watching.
drama? what?
posted on 18 Jun 2008A tremendously disappointing film... from the cover, I assumed it would be a standard action movie. I mean, come on, it's Dolph Lundgren, and he's got a *really* big gun! But it actually gets bogged down by trying to develop the uninteresting characters and supply a background of uninteresting past events. The main threat most of the time seems to be two security guards who would last about 5 seconds in any self-respecting action movie, one of whom, for no discernible reason, wants to rape the female lead, who would be quite capable of eating him for breakfast. Basically it's an action move that tries to be something else, but does such a bad job of it that I can't even tell what that something else might be.
It's Dolph Lundgren, people...
posted on 25 Dec 2007This movie fails on all counts. The action is bland and weak, the script sounds like a third grader's nightmare, and the acting... oh the horror! Dolph Lundgren carries big guns and walks around with a hot babe in what seems like an eternity of soul-murdering hell...
Just one click and you are dead!
posted on 13 Sep 2007He is calm, silent and deadly. His bullet can hit you from distance of 2 kilometers. This time Dolph holds in his hands a new tool of destruction a sniper. He works as political assassin, but he doesn't want to kill any more. They sent him to his last mission into the great designed building with a girl who is his assistant (Bellman). While they make preparations, we watch many flash-backs related to their common past and targets from many years ago. They don't know that whole this job is just a trap to eliminate them both. Director of "Highlander" and "Shadow", Russell Mulcahy, brought you another hit. Claustophobic, strong and dramatic, this film really makes you think. Dolph also provided you with fantastic action scenes that will take your breath away. Gina Bellman always pleasant to look at. The film that is going to become an important part of your personal collection.
Tense, fast-paced action
posted on 02 Sep 2007Silent Trigger is a true return to form for director Russel Mulcahy (Highlander, Ricochet). The film is visually amazing, and is full of brilliant sets and some stylish action scenes. It manages to be one of the best action movies I've ever seen. Dolph fits perfectly into his roll as an emotionless killer, while Bellman is attractive but shallow. In the film they are two snipers who are reunited after their last mission went awry in an abandoned skyscraper, where they are supposed to be stalking out their next kill. The film deals in flashbacks with what went wrong in their last mission, until in the end we see everyone is not what they seem. Mulcahy handles the action and pace of the film with skill, and keeps us in suspense to see the conclusion. The DVD could have used more extras, but nevertheless it's still worth buying for a better version of the movie itself, and if you haven't seen Silent Trigger yet, it's a must-buy. It's too bad the movie didn't do as well as it could have at the box-office. Buy it now for one of the most intelligent, well-made action thrillers ever
OK should have been better
posted on 26 Aug 2007A shooter and his spotter lie high in a church tower. When the green light comes he is unable to shoot and his spotter is order to kill him. Before she does, they are ambushed and escape across country. Years later the same two are unwittingly paired for another job and realise that those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.It starts well better than expected, the only weakness of the first 20 minutes or so are some very poor computer graphics. However after that it slows right down and, even though I still expected something more from it it never really delivered. To keep the story going while they set up their shot, we rope in a crazy security guard to keep the story doing something.
When the action does finally come it doesn't convince and doesn't totally hang together. The problem is partly that nothing is explained for the whole film not for tension but just for convenience. They work for an unnamed agency, their jobs have no motive, the flashback story is set in an unnamed country etc.
Suddenly at the end we're expected to care about whats happening even if we don't know why it's happening. It's a shame because Lundgren is actually OK in this I'm not a big fan but he's OK. Bellman is so-so, but she sounds like she's surpressing her voice and sounds weird. I couldn't place her the whole film then I realised she's from the UK and is from the series Coupling. The director has done some OK action movies and did some cool shots with this. It's just a shame that most of it is so dull and without tension even the nice ending is spoilt by what went before it.Overall good start, reasonable ending but the bit in between could, nay should, have been much better.
Underlying meaning
posted on 06 Aug 2007I thought that this movie was pretty good. Maybe it's because of the .50 cal, or because its about a sniper. That'd make a good action movie right there, but at the same time its typical for movies of this genre to have big weapons, big explosions, and _no_ plot. The hero who shoots everything that moves, and doesn't ever even think twice about it. You occasionally will find one where their buddy will get shot, so they cry for a scene, and go back on the rampage again. Silent Trigger, although it does have action scene typical to the genre, focuses more on the other aspect. It actually conveys meaning. Behind all the action scenes the plot focuses on his inability to see the targets as targets anymore, but as human beings. Unable to objectify the person on the other end of his rifle, he loses the ability to pull the trigger.
The plot itself was done nicely as well. It goes back and forth between two different missions, both of which end up the same. However, some of the turns the plot takes are pretty obvious. The only dissappointments I had were the DVD version doesn't have any extra footage, and I can't seem to figure out where the alternate camera angles are available. Despite this, however, it still makes a good movie which can be watched over again.
Okay at Best
posted on 04 Jul 2007Overall, I'd have to say this film is just Okay. The gunplay scenes are quite good, with Dolph's .50 caliber sniper rifle doing the job quite well. I'd have to say that the film's plot left a little to be desired. I constantly felt like I was waiting for something to happen, but it never did.
Dolph plays a sniper working with his spotter on an assignment. When Dolph refuses to 'take the shot' when instructed to do so, the mission controller orders that they pair be executed. On the run, they both meet up for another mission, and find that this time, it's them who's being hunted.
The acting is about par for Lundgren. I don't see him winning any academy awards, but he's better than some I've seen. The fight scenes and gun scenes are really what drew me to this film. If you can get past a lack of plot, just to watch some mindless shooting, you'll love it. Otherwise, you'd probably give it the same rating I did.
Typical action fare.
posted on 02 Mar 2007Although this movie was quite enjoyable, I DO think Dolph Lundgren has more than proven his potential and possible ability to do more beyond the realms of action man/muscle man. He at least could get a lead role in a film with a major, big league star like Christopher Walken. This movie was more fun than Pentathlon or Red Scorpion. The action scenes were well handled, the characters well delivered and it had a strange all round quality to it.
SOLID MOVIE
posted on 12 Nov 2006Silent Trigger is a solid movie, it's two main charecters are complete with their own personalities. In the begining Clegg "Gina Bellman" is a rookie spotter for "the agency" but a few years later "big fast forward" she is a highly experienced woman. Keep in mind folks, that Gina Bellman is a stuningly gourgeous female and in this movie she looks absolutly stunning. Plus she carries a gun and wears tight black clothing so the eye candy aspect of the movie is deffiantly there. Dolph Lungren is a great action movie actor "even though in real life he doesn't really like being an action charecter". This movie shows the other side of him that you don't see much of in other movies. In this movie he starts questioning his profesion and why he works as an assasin. Clegg also wonders why they are assasins as well. The diologe is great in this movie, Gina Bellmans diologe supports the personality she has, "Strong, Sassy, Sexy" *pefect woman heh?* lol. In real life both Dolph Lungren and Gina Bellman are really cool people who are passionate about acting so thats always a good to know. The movie doesn't get boring at all unlike countless hundreds of Hollywood "blockbuster" movies that just plain sucks. Silent Trigger is one of those movies that doesn't get boring after the 4th time watching it. Everytime I watch it I pick up on something different, it has real life themes scattered in the movie and great action scenes and this great film will get you thinking, guarenteed! I'm praying for a "Silent Trigger 2" to someday be released.
Decent movie? Are you sh*tting me?
posted on 07 Mar 2006OK normally i wouldn't bother commenting on a movie like this, but honestly, what is with the good reviews for it?! So yeah, this is possibly one of the worst films ever made. I watched it late at night with some friends at a sleepover, and as one pointed out, the plot sounded like it was made up by a 6-year-old. The one liners had the so-bad-its-funny feel. And i wonder how desperate Gina Bellmen was for work before she went on Coupling. And Dolph Lundgren....i don't know why anyone ever let him near a film set!Basically, unless you want to laugh yourself senseless at the stupidity of the plot and how little sense it makes, AVOID.
Satisfying action
posted on 06 Jan 2006Dolph is an assassin who takes on his last assignment. He's experienced, mature, and filled with common sense - trying to teach the naive and deadly wannabe, Gina, to be discriminative and aware. This takes place in a metropolitan building,(not yet finished), overlooking the bridge leading from the US into Canada. It's also where Dolph and Gina go through a period of adjusting from their previous troubled time together. There were some flashbacks, which I liked; they fit in well at showing their past job together, and the reason for their problematic rejoining. But during that time is when a minor flaw occurs (concerning authenticity); it's about a security guard snorting cocaine - (his job must pay awful well) - and he snorts it several times during the night. But what the hell, it helps him become more of a sex-craved maniac looking to fill-in a boring night: a romp through the penthouse with the sexy Gina as the participant. He does a great job as a weirdo guard, and is an excellent filler for action during the assassins set up. But . . . Then after Gina fights off a sexual attack with the guard, she then gets a sexual feeling for Dolph, of course. This happens near the window that's been cutout in a circled manner for the upcoming assassination attempt - you'll see her fine shapely hips while laying on the floor. Although Gina doesn't have an ounce of toughness to her, she still does all right as the female assassin. The action scenes were good; some extreme, but not too outrageous like a lot of other flicks. And maybe I could include that the Canadians seem to have a higher percentage of good action movies than Hollywood.
Hard,harder, Lundgren
posted on 31 Dec 2005For me, one of Lundgrens better performances as soldier and assassin showing what it's not so easy to leave the firm. Kill or be killed. But he gives hinds of that goes deeper. So the flashbacks which switch time and place and shows how he became the lone, tired wolf which wants to leave this business. Just one another job to do. The target is the same. His last "job" failed because of the new spotter which was connected with more unnecessarily bodies . But he sees that his target is not the only target today. The new spotter is an old fiend. In Fact the plot is not the work of a real genius but this film thrills. Not least the work of Gina Bellman which gives the film a warm note in this cold location and her character will be stronger as the viewer thinks at the beginning of the movie.

Slow Trigger
posted on 07 Jun 2009A movie that even makes Dolph Lundgren look good. Some action, bloody and violent with some good camerawork doesn't really make up for the slow pace. Idiotic sex scene and stupidly handled story almost made me sleep. After the first half-hour it didn't really give us much and in the end all the hell brakes loose. Then a quite end with no real meaning or purpose. Russel Mulcahy has made it worth watching but he can never ever make a Highlander again.
