They live among us. They hunt us.
The Beast Waits Within.
Creatures, bound by the blood of the wolf, that can kill with curses and move at lightening speed, watching the night sky for the rise of the blood-red crescent moon. They are SKINWALKERS. They feed on our flesh and thirst for the taste of human blood. The red moon signals each pack, divided by principles, hell bent to survive an ancient prophecy.
On his 13th birthday, Timothy (Matthew Knight) a half-blood, is about to reach the time of his transformation. HeÂ’s been guarded since birth by those around him. They know the power he holds. He alone has the power to control the destiny of his family, and their kind, a gift that has placed his very life in danger.
On the third night, at the rise of the red moon, a war will rage for control of their kind. There are two warring factions: one would like the curse to end, the other embraces bloodlust, and revels in the immortal freedom of the beast within. They will do anything to preserve their way of life. To survive, it means finding the boy. The one with the power to control their very survival. “I am not human,” says Varek (Jason Behr), “I am better than that!”
Under the full red moon, the violent feud pits brother against brother, lover against lover, and good against evil.

Good but Short and it appeared to have pieces hacked out.
posted on 22 Aug 2009My wife and I saw this movie on Saturday night and enjoyed it but it wasn't near the 110 minutes they claim. The real movie didn't start until 7:30 and we were out of the theater by 9:00.The story line was OK but it could have used some more fleshing out.It seems like someone did a horrible hack job on this movie because there were were huge plot holes that may have been explained by parts of the film that weren't there. I won't go into details because I don't want to telegraph (spoil) the movie. The acting was actually pretty good. Much better than I had hoped given the lack of heavyweight star-power. Not a lot of dialog but what was there had emotion and intelligence.I appreciate the lack of gore and it was nice to have a Werewolf movie that doesn't have to be R rated and rely on blood to survive. If you like the Genre then go see this and you won't be disappointed.
Disposable lycanthropy at best...
posted on 12 Aug 2009...and turgid film-making at its least, "Skinwalkers" adds nothing to the canon beyond, perhaps, the concept of a pack of werewolves owning a mobile, armored self-restraint chamber. As is almost always the case, the fault rests primarily with the script, credited to three people--both at the beginning and end of the film!--a sure sign of meddling by the suits putting up the money. Somehow, though, I doubt the original screenplay was much better. This one involves two warring packs of shapeshifters who are focused on the impending thirteenth birthday of one of their own and what may or may not occur (beyond an anomalous and illogical "red moon") when he attains that benighted age. It's not the concept so much that rankles, though, it's the execution. In a word: pedestrian. In two words: utterly forgettable. Director James "Jason X" Isaac should stick with effects work; either his directorial abilities are limited to fx/stunt sequences or he hasn't the artistic chops to surmount a script-by-committee. His ability to elicit quality acting performances is definitely suspect, since none of his cast acquits itself with anything approaching distinction.I know nothing of the genesis of this project, nor do I care to. The resultant mess doesn't merit the effort. "Skinwalkers" is make-work of the most disappointing order. The viewer can only take comfort in knowing that it did so poorly at the box office that the sequel it so blatantly sets itself up for will likely never see the light of the next full moon. We at least have that to be grateful for.
Avoid this movie at all costs!
posted on 08 Aug 2009This movie was so bad! Went to a screening of this flick last week and I've gotta tell you... it should have never been made! The writing was so full of holes I could have driven a semi-truck through it. Don't even get me started on this one! How can you have a large town with no people in it? I mean come on, there's four bikers walking down Main Street, each holding guns and no one see this? PLEASE! The make-up reminded me a lot of the 1940's "Wolfman" make-up. Some parts you could even see the appliances on the actors faces. The acting was just as bad as the story... no life to it. You didn't care if someone lived or died. The end was the best part of the film... the credits. But I do think sense this was directed by the same guy the did "Jason X" they should rename it "The Howling X!"
srprisingly good for Hollywood
posted on 06 Aug 2009James Isaac directs this exceptional addition to the werewolf sub-genre featuring a beautiful soundtrack, some of the best action in any movie and a solid story. On top of the impressive screenplay and direction we are treated to some of the better acting that any horror has to offer. Jason Behr plays his role so well that it is impossible not to feel sympathy for him throughout the movie and especially towards the end. Rhona Mitra also offers an inspired performance and one feels for her during the dying moments of the movie. I wasn't too fond of Mathew Night. But that's OK. Stan Winston delivered awesome special effects and all in all it becomes a master piece like there hasn't been on since an American werewolf in London. If you are horror fan you not be disappointed. Surprising moments, cowboy-grandmas shooting their way thru life, and some other pretty cool stuff. 8 outta 10.
Beastly Romance
posted on 31 Jul 2009I had low expectations for this movie, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I admit, the low rating made me hesitant to see it. But as an action film, it had good fights. As a supernatural-themed movie, it had some interesting effects. There were a few problems I did have with this movie. Some parts of it felt rushed, while other parts felt drawn out. Perhaps an editing flaw. I personally thought Jason Behr was overacting a bit, but he's so sexy, which that goes a long way in forgiving that. The action and effects were really good. The transformations were a little strange, but the actual werewolves looked awesome. I'd pay ten bucks to see that. The best thing about that movie was seeing Jason and Natassia Malthe make hot and sweaty beast love to each other. Definitely the sexiest werewolf movie ever.
Skinwalkers
posted on 29 Jun 2009This movie is out to entertain people and I thought Underworld is better than this. This features werewolves, and they are seriously hairy and ugly. To think about it, Underworld did a better job in creating the werewolves. To you, this seems like a small budget movie and it seems to be. I can't believe I am seeing some crap hairy bunch of werewolves who almost never appear in the movie, only in the middle and the whole of the last part. Other than transforming into werewolves, they have weapons and that is gun. I was expecting some werewolves fights like in Underworld but I saw them using guns and banging away people. The gun fights last long enough. That are probably the most interesting parts. Grandma shooting with guns, how insane can it be. If you watch the trailer and thought that it would be a intense movie, you would probably yawn at this movie, I thought this will pack some action.Overall, you want to watch cheesy werewolves movies, here is one. You like werewolves movies, here is one too. I am not really into werewolves movies but I thought it was pretty interesting, and the answer is no. It does have the gun fights to keep your eyes glued but it only features around two gun fights an some action. But it still can be good in some ways. The cast is hot. If you want some werewolves action, I recommend you the two Underworld movies. Underworld is better than this!
Not a bad action movie, but disappointing as a werewolf vehicle
posted on 15 Jun 2009Where it all goes wrong. I watched this movie -cut for PG reasons- and it was entertaining. Butit doesn't do all that well. I can understand why people bash this movie and why people like this movie. For that I rate it average.Pros: decent action movie with a fast paced story, solid script, brawls, shoot outs and explosions. Cons: it's an action movie, with occasional -occasional- werewolf action (Except the grand finale). This is not your typical werewolf horror movie, in fact it focuses on being an action movie. The other thing is that all the werewolf's look like descendants of the wolf man. Yes, bipedal, furry, and most of all... very human-like. They could have been Bigfoots cousins. It does keep the women sexy, as far as sexy can go with furry human like-creatures... But somehow it's not scary enough. You don't even get to see one descent changing scene.Maybe we have been spoiled rotten by "an American werewolf in London"(AWIL) and by "the Howling"(TH) and even by the CG aided "Underworld" or Indies as "Ginger Snaps" and "Dog Soldiers", on both the changing scene and on werewolf design. But bipedal hairy humans that resemble as much as Quest for Fire Caveman as Bigfoot that don't even have wet noses... The upside is, the actors -even though hairy- are still recognizable, so the wolf man look could have been used on purpose.I may be nagging about this ...but c'mon: "STAN WINSTON STUDIOS PRESENT" and Creature effects by "STAN WINSTON STUDIOS"What I am trying to say is, that the werewolf theme raises the bar a bit high, since you'd expect horror and wereWOLF and in your face man-wolf changes, because what has all been done earlier in AWiL and in TH and similar movies, not even mentioning the involvement of "STAN WINSTON STUDIOS" And the movie fails to deliver all this. So ... for a werewolf movie ... very disappointing.Bottom line: For an action movie with supernatural twist, it's actually a pretty good movie! For a werewolf movie ... poo happens
Not bad.
posted on 09 Jun 2009All these people are seriously hating on this movie. Either they haven't seen it, or they're just hating to hate. It's seriously not that bad. It's entertaining. I've been saying this all day; as soon as someone asks what I thought, I say, "Take it for what it's worth." Can anyone say the last perfect horror/scifi movie that they saw? Nope. It's fun. It's got pretty people in it. And the effects are pretty damn good too. It's good. The premise is about the native American idea of skinwalkers. The idea differs a bit in the movie, but you get the jist of it. There are a few funny parts, that aren't meant to be funny, but it's ENTERTAINMENT. When you take a few mediocre actors, and put them in a movie like this, I don't know what you're expecting. It's done well. If there was another movie to compare it to, it would probably be something like 'An American Werewolf in London,' or 'Interview With a Vampire.' All that I kept thinking while I was watching the movie, is how cool it actually would be, to be able to live forever. Or, more so, how it would be to have INCREDIBLE strength like this. People take this way too seriously. You watch a movie to escape from reality, right? Otherwise you'd be watching documentaries all the time. And honestly, that would just be a bummer.Don't hate y'all. It's bad for your complexion.
Terrible, terrible ending
posted on 07 Jun 2009The movie gets its lower rating because the audience was cheated, for two reasons: The entire movie we're lead to hate the main bad guy. He kills all the good guys, all the people who raised the boy and were his family. And in the end, the mom gets back with him like an everyday occurrence. I guarantee you, everyone who's seen this movie was going "what??????" And number two, the whole boy surviving to midnight ends the werewolves thing was just a lie. It apparently only worked on the werewolves after him, a convenient plot point. The whole movie was a lie and I was mad that I wasted two hours watching it for that ending. It had a good cast too and was well directed (except for any part that doesn't done with the hand-held camera, which should be outlawed in film-making - not a steadicam, but an actual hand held camera.) Too bad that ending was so awful.
A werewolf movie for today
posted on 20 May 2009Skinwalkers is just what I was looking for. It wasn't the greatest movie I've ever seen, but it was entertaining. I'm a big Jason Behr fan and it was cool to see him in a different sort of role. I liked him as a badass it works well for him. Also I know it was rated pg-13 but they still managed to keep in some of the good stuff if you know what I mean. There are definitely some attractive ladies in this movie. I was pleasantly surprised with Sarah Carter's performance, I thought she was one of the best actors in the film. There is a really intense scene with her and a couple of the other werewolves and it really had me on the edge of my seat. The little boy was good he was sort of haunting. He seemed sort of out of it the whole movie, but I think that's what they were going for. Some of the cuts were a little cheesy, but I liked the werewolf costumes. You could really distinguish the difference between all the different werewolves which I thought was neat. I liked this movie I thought it was fun, and worth seeing on the big screen. Also it's not a typical family film, but the whole family can go and I think there is something for everyone: action, a love story, suspense. So if you are into werewolves or want something just something fun and entertaining check out Skinwalkers. I did and I was happy with the result.
The Super-cool "Skinwalkers"
posted on 12 May 2009Like the comic books from which the X-Men came, in fact, the movie offers as much posturing and posing as it does twists. It has a deliberate, melodramatic-cool factor that's self-conscious enough to be fun. The movie also throws great bits and lines at you practically up to the final shot, and Natassia Malthe, the half-Norwegian, half-Filipino model-actress playing were-babe Sonja, is really, really easy on the eyes. The bad werewolves unfortunately have little in the way of differentiating personalities, but the creature effects are masterfully designed by the studio of industry legend Stan Winston, and the movie's climax and coda are deeply satisfying.
This movie was only an hour and 20 minutes for a reason
posted on 12 May 2009Reading the plot for this movie got me really excited, and the preview helped confirm that. I was HEVILY disappointed in this film! While the idea was good, this movie just dragged on and on and on. I laughed after I looked at the short running time once the movie was over. Watching this was almost like watching a 90s jean claud van dam movie or something. Cheesy dialog as well as action. Thats right the fight scenes weren't even good! What I did like a lot about this movie ws the cinematography, it was excellent. The Idea in intself still is pretty cool, it just wasn't done very well. This movie was almost like 90s jean claud van dam movie meets john carpenters vampires. In fact if you haven't seen Joh Carpenters Vampires go watch that instead haha.
Hard work - not a joy to watch!
posted on 30 Apr 2009I mainly watch films to be entertained. Some good films, though usually worth the effort, are not exactly entertaining and some really bad films are a good way to spend a couple of hours and forget the world. Unfortunately this is neither a good film nor an entertaining one. There just was not enough story to go round. There is supposed to be a legend and a curse to be lifted. I needed more back-story. I found it impossible to care about a fight that had little or no explanation. The film failed to create its own mythology and did not respect the generally accepted mythology. For instance, though silver was mentioned at least once, it did not seem fundamental and ordinary bullets were quite effective. In addition there did not seem to be a hard and fast rule as to when the change-over was meant to or had to take place.Acting, direction, cinematography and script were patchy at best and for the most part not anything any of those involved could be proud of.To conclude it is hard to say anything positive about this film, I cannot even say it was a good attempt, since I haven't the slightest idea what was being attempted here. The only thing I cared about, by the time the film was finished, was that finally the tedium was at an end.
good temptation
posted on 28 Apr 2009All werewolf movies have a lot of buildup before they show the creature. Usually 45 min. or so till the first attack. And the conclusion shows the wolf. This movie is not like those, but you also don't get bored by seeing the monsters so many time, since they are shown differently and in situation you wouldn't expect. Most werewolf films are boring for the first half, but this one isn't. Since "The howling" this is definitely the best mix of special fx combinations of cgi and real life make up fx. Action, horror, and humor all delivered by James Isaac and Stan Winston. The most intriguing part of this film is the neverending temptation of sexual lust for blood. It makes you want it too. You start desiring the sweet taste of evil and for a moment want to become one of them. The sexual tension is amazing and draws you in like no other horror film. You are never disgusted but rather fascinated and want more. More blood, more sex, more kill, just simply more. Don't expect porn, but rather subtle sexual tension that want to haunt you and capture you. I saw it with a friend and we both were so sexually aroused afterwards that we had to do something about it. Anyway, the film is great: good acting by Jason Behr and Rhona Mitra. Outstanding directing from Isaac and great sfx by Stan Winston. Go see it with your partner and the do the role playing thing afterwards, at home, of course.
Decent movie with Red moon.
posted on 20 Apr 2009If a werewolf loves a werewolf, where can they set up housekeeping together? Nowhere. At least not in a world where werewolves and werewolves have fought for a thousand years. Though now a half breed boy will bring an end to it. Definitely out of Hollywood writers. This rendition is actually quite fun. Less effects and more action. Actors play the parts. Skinwalkers I'll admit it - I got sucked in by the cool look of skinwalkers trailer and was pretty excited to see it. The wolf costumes were the best. Stan winston did a good job bringing the vision of a werewolf alive as usual. Though this movie is more down to earth in feel. Good Film all in all.
I cannot think of a worse end
posted on 20 Apr 2009All in all, this is not a very bad movie, you can watch it once or twice except for the end. Wow, how can someone be so much out of his mind to end the story like that - it looked like a mixture between "and they lived happily ever after", "Natural born killers" and a documentary for blood donors. Do you really think this poor boy will have enough blood to cure ALL skinwalkers? And are his mother and redeemed father going to run a hospital for people suffering from skinwalker-ia? I hope there won't be a next sequel, where we can follow how their business is going. There were some amusing scenes though, like that with "Stop or my mom will shoot!" feat. the old lady and her hidden big gun. Or the scene with the eagle crushing the truck window (although when I think twice, this sucks a bit). And we have OF COURSE a nice looking female trio - Rhona Mitra, Sarah Carter and Natassia Malthe, although you'd better watch Sarah and Natassia in "Dead or Alive".
A Nutshell Review: Skinwalkers
posted on 20 Apr 2009The poster may look menacing, but Skinwalkers is actually a tame pussycat. In the hands of ordinary filmmakers, this is what you get - mediocre, "have we seen this before" moments, and plenty of unintentional comedy, for a werewolf genre that tried to reinvent itself, and exhausted its game plan. To give itself a mystical feel, it developed its own uninteresting mythos about some prophecy (not again!) that will come true after the appearance of the red moon.Zoom past the intertitles, and hey, the red moon! From then on, it's Terminator-hasta-la- vista baby! The prophecy seemed to dwell on the fate of a 12 year old boy, who is said to have some rocking puberty mumbo-jumbo happening to him (no, it's not the sudden growth of extra hair in certain parts). So his mother, Rachel (Rhona Mitra) becomes an unwitting, uninspiring Sarah Conner clone, while relying on a bunch of rag tag team mates led by Jonas (Elias Koteas), to keep them alive. Jonas and gang however, have a deep dark secret. They're werewolves, but good ones, who get strapped up before dusk so that they can be artificially restrain their blood lust.On the other hand, the bad mofos (who are also werewolves) are led by Lorenzo Lamas. Wait a minute, that couldn't be him! He's still looking... so young! No, it's Jason Behr, who I swear in his unshaven face, and wavy shoulder length hair, shades and bad attitude, seemed to have crawled out of a typical Lamas made-for-video movie. As with the many Lamas movies, it's almost guaranteed to have bad cheapskate action. It screams B-Flick with sirens blaring and strobe lights flashing, and frankly, Skinwalkers is nothing except that.Like I mentioned, it's Terminator all over again. Bad guys want to annihilate the kid so that they can prevent the prophecy from coming true (whatever that is, which they have no clue whatsoever). In between, they kill and have edited sex, which is bad, in both sense. The good guys just want to stand in the way (hey, we don't feed on blood, so we're cool) and they too have no idea just in case the kid turns into some hybrid - OK, wrong movie - while we see the toughening up of Sarah Con, I mean Mitra's Rachel, that it all reeked of plagiarism. If anything can justify labelling a werewolf movie as cheap, then it is the distinct lack of on- screen transformation. The wolves just appear, in full hairy costume, bad teeth and probably stinky breath and all, without any attempts to allow a glimpse at the transformation. Not only that, the local distributors, in attempts to make money hence requesting this to be passed with a lower rating, removed all sex scenes. No wonder we see macabre, gruesome high profile killings, and low birth rates. We can't even watch sexy on screen. Bring the sexy back!Anyway I digress. Skinwalkers was pretty bad from the get go. Hokey prophecies, cheap makeup, and horrors, guns are used with glee from all quarters, and the gunplay's probably the laziest I've seen in a long time. Laughable effort, especially when you realize the cop out made just for the bigger names in this picture. Only suitable for that DVD rental on a lazy weekend afternoon at best.
My Review
posted on 14 Apr 2009For twelve years and four days, a battle has been waging on in the werewolf (a.k.a. Skinwalkers) community. A boy has been born who, when he turns 13, can cure all werewolves. Some werewolves want the cure, while others don't.This movie was terrible. I actually wanted the bad guys to win because the good guys were so idiotic. -there's four bad guys who enter a town infested with 'good werewolves,' yet after the shooting, blowing things up and more shooting ends, there's still four bad guys and only eight good guys. -the kid faints, so they take him to a regular hospital where they don't spare the details in telling them that the kid is a werewolf -a good werewolf gets kidnapped and turned into a bad werewolf, then her boyfriend won't kill her even though she's about to kill him, and he turns into a whiny little wuss who gets what he deserves -instead of running and hiding, there's needless conversations about 'what the heck is going on here?' that they could be talking about WHILE being on the run, not standing in the wide open demanding an explanation -when the mother and child want to leave, let them. That way they'll die, and you'll live, unlike what actually happens in the filmIf you can't tell, I was very annoyed with this film. It's pure filth, plain and simple.
Only watch if really bored
posted on 12 Apr 2009After seeing 5 out of 10 stars for this on the main page I was looking forward to a reasonably entertaining werewolf movie. I got quite disappointed.Lets start with the positives, since there are some. The action is quite good and there is lots of it. The werewolves look pretty "realistic", especially the female ones. 2 or 3 of the actors actually put up a decent performance, most notably the uncle of the boy.Now to the bad sides, where to start ? The story is very predictable and actually quite boring. Most characters are so shallow, you don't actually care if they live or die. Most of them die anyway, except the boys parents, which makes for a very unrealistic "happy ending". Scared mother turning into Sarah Connor and wasting everyone with a shotgun, then running out of bullets and therefore unable to kill the guy whom nobody told that he's actually the villain. Cmon ! While we are at dying, in the werewolf genre you have to shoot one with a silver bullet to waste it, here they just die like everyone else. It seems this movie was pretty low budget, since every scenery is pretty void of people except for the protagonists. You actually get the feeling they live in an empty world where everyone except a handful of characters is a werewolf. All in all you wait the whole time for the movie to kick it up a notch but that simply doesn't happen. If you're looking for a mediocre action movie and nothing more, you'll get it. If you're a fan of the genre, you'll be pretty disappointed.

Boring plot with bad acting and CGI effects
posted on 30 Aug 2009This movie is boring. I thought it was going to be like Underworld with two fighting clans both trying to create a super monster. I wasted an hour and a half of my life watching this. The werewolf costumes don't look anything like a wolf. They just have sharp teeth and are hairier. And they don't talk, they just roar. I could tell my dad to stop shaving for a month, buy some fangs from the Halloween shop, and grunt like a gorilla, and he would look like the werewolves in this movie. I saw scarier things while watching Scooby Doo.The plot is nothing new, either. 2 packs of wolves. One wants to end the curse, one doesn't. They fight, and the good guys win. Waaaaaaaay too predictable. There is no twist in the story. No big secrets. No surprises that change everything. You could guess the whole movie after watching the beginning. The ending isn't anything spectacular. It doesn't go out with a big bang. Nothing happens to the boy. He doesn't turn into Superman and save everybody. He doesn't get any super-powers that everybody says he should have. He just... stays the same. You could feel that at the very end, the director probably said "Lets finish this. I need to go home." This movie is boring. The plot is boring. And the fight scenes are terrible. If you want a good movie that has monster against monster, go watch Underworld. It has a better plot.
