Stealin' Stones and Breakin' Bones
Now you see it, now you don't!
Stealing stones is hazardous.
Turkish and his close friend/accomplice Tommy get pulled into the world of match fixing by the notorious Brick Top. Things get complicated when the boxer they had lined up gets the shit kicked out of him by Pitt, a 'pikey' ( slang for an Irish Gypsy)- who comes into the equation after Turkish, an unlicensed boxing promoter wants to buy a caravan off the Irish Gypsies. They then try to convince Pitt not only to fight for them, but to lose for them too. Whilst all this is going on, a huge diamond heist takes place, and a fistful of motley characters enter the story, including 'Cousin Avi', 'Boris The Blade', 'Franky Four Fingers' and 'Bullet Tooth Tony'. Things go from bad to worse as it all becomes about the money, the guns, and the damned dog!

HORRIBLE!!
posted on 10 Aug 2009This is just about the worst movie I've seen in a while!! The movie tries desperately to be funny but fails miserably. The plots maintain themselves throughout the movie until they cross in a way that is just plain stupid. The movie tries to be many things at once: a gangster movie/ a comedy/ and an action movie, but doesn't achieve any of them. The only character that was amusing was a dog sadly. Just save your $8 and go see something else.
are you joking?
posted on 10 Aug 2009i see that this is in the top 250. i thought it might be in the bottom 250, but i guess they are a lot of brad Pitt fans out there. i am not here to p*** you off or anything but the guy just cant act. the diction in his lines are so slurred, he tries these impersonations, but believe me he is no Kevin Spacey.as for the movie it depiction of blacks is very cruel, and i was totally bored after Benicio left the screen.
Huh?
posted on 06 Aug 2009"Snatch"...what a perfect title for a movie made by a guy married to Madonna...maybe someday he will cofeature it with Amanda Peet's "Whipped".Not to say there is not a lot to like in "Snatch," at least the colorful characters, flashy editing and great sight gags. I even found the dialogue witty, once I turned on the close captioning, so I could understand it. The best (and truest) line in the movie comes from Dennis Farina ("For a country that spawned the English language, you think somebody'd be able to speak it." The BEST English comes from the three blackand quite luckless thugs. Is there a message here? To complicate things even more, Brad Pitt, playing a gypsy, speaks a language even the Limeys don't understand.Perhaps it is just as well writer / director Guy Ritchie made "Snatch" verbally incomprehensible. Certainly, there isn't too much to the story, which opens with a diamond heist and involves a predictable series of misadventures which follow. If you have a DVD player, be sure to rent the DVD; it has a very funny deleted scene involving Benecio Del Toro (Frankie Four Fingers). It also has subtitles in the madeup language Brad Pitt uses in the movie. This movie would have been big disappointment without close captioning. As it is, it is a funny, is somewhat predictable, and surprisingly violent caper film.
Perfect characters,full of fun,smart scenario
posted on 04 Aug 2009I've seen the film many many times and it's now my one of all time favorite fun film. The characters personalities, styles an the way they are represented impressed me a lot.I like the way Brick Top shows his teeth when he gives those lunatic answers and speeches about pigs.I love Tyrone! He is so dumb and stupid i'll never forget how he looks with the mask on at the bar. There are great lyrics out there,"you know what nemesis means?...", "u can call me Susan if..","if i throw a dog a bone i don't care if it tastes good or not". And the car accident trio, very smart! Also the soundtrack is absolutely perfect!!! Guy Ritchie's preferred twirling camera shootings are fascinating. One more thing i like about his films is he chooses the chars. from different nations and they all have very unique characteristics, such as Boris, Nik the Greek and all those black people and their way of solving problems. Ý really advice everyone to see this film you won't be sorry. Hope have been useful, sorry for the English.
They spent how many millions on this?
posted on 04 Aug 2009When "professional" movie people decide on a project and spend millions of dollars, (pounds in this case) on a long shot gamble, it must hurt like hell to see results like this. I say long shot because the script would be full of dialogue like: Mr. Pitt, "Mumf orf tooz isgmos".And scenes like: Cut to Russian shoots principle character in the head, killing him.Cut to scenes and dialogue out of other movies(why is being eaten by pigs so popular these days?).Cut to Disney ending with all the bad guys dead and the good guys smiling. What could possible be going through these people's heads when they ok'ed this movie?
Snatch versus Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.
posted on 17 Jul 2009Did anybody out there prefer Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels? Although I, myself, am a big fan of Benicio Del Toro, and Brad Pitt was excellent, I thought the predecessor had a slightly more raw quality to it, as it was not quite as polished off as the Hollywood version.Albeit, Snatch may well have been funnier, but I'm always one to tip my hat to that which presented the really original idea in the first place. Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels was absolutely its own thing, and therefore gets extra points from me. And seriously, nobody beats Sting. And I also thought Vinnie Jones' character had an extra irony to it when he was always trying to set a good example for his son while beating in people's brains. Also, that ending scene to LSTSB was terrific.A lot of what made Snatch so great was the cinematography, but a lot of that was directly taken from LSTSB, as was the juxtaposition of subject matter and music.
Awesome movie.
posted on 13 Jul 2009This is top-class entertainment. The movie is brilliantly constructed and has its own unique style. Both the story and characters are over-the-top and therefor also extremely fun. This is a movie were basically is very little wrong with. It's some perfect mindless entertainment but with a complicated storyline. So it's still a sort of movie with a story, which you have to pay a lot of attention to, while watching. The movie is made in the same style as the previous Guy Ritchie movie, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". There are lots of similarities between these two movies, so if you liked "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" you'll most likely also really like this movie as well.Main difference with "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" though, is that this movie has a 'bigger' cast with some more well known names in it. Jason Statham who made his debut in "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" plays the main character in this movie. Brad Pitt plays a very fun role and fits surprisingly well into the typical British storyline and atmosphere of the movie. Also well known actors like Benicio Del Toro and Dennis Farina fit in very well into the story and the movie in general. But perhaps the biggest positive surprise of the movie was Vinnie Jones. He had been given quite some dialog in this movie and he shows that he really can act. Most movies he plays in, he is given very little dialog, a shame because judging by just this movie, he is a very talented actor.Maybe the movie becomes a bit too complex at times, which is mainly due to the very many characters that play a prominent role in the story. It perhaps gets a bit too much at times but overall it doesn't make the movie any less fun to watch, just more (too much) complicated. The movie has some very fun and original moments in the story, even though the movie is a bit too similar to "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" at times. Which is also the main reason why I still regard "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" as a better movie. It came first and therefor it's more original and refreshing. Basically "Snatch." is just more of the same. Not that more of the same is a bad thing in this case but it's just of course not as refreshing and original as with "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" was the case.If you like a well constructed movie with a solid and complex story told from multiple points of views this is a sort of movie that you'll love. Also highly recommendable if you liked "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels", of course. I don't mind seeing more movies like this being made.9/10
Now this is a good movie!
posted on 07 Jul 2009I can't tell you how great this film is, you gotta see it for your self. (sorry if it sounds like the matrix tagline) This film is packed with action and funny jokes. Really funny. Storyline is great, how these characters link to each other in some way or another is just brilliant. Many great actors here, my favorites are Tony, Turkish, Mickey, Franky, Vinny, Sol, Tommy...the list just goes on and on. NEVER a boring moment in the movie, no nice looking girls in the film and yet it's an excellent film for guys since me and my buddies all enjoyed it very much. I rented "Fight Club", "Snatch", and "Dude, where is my car?" (i know, i shouldn't, gave up in 10 minutes), and in my opinion "Snatch" is a more entertaining film then "fight club", because the flow is smoother, and there are just too many good actors in Snatch. Benicio Del Toro didn't get alot of scenes but he shined in every one of them.My all time favourite movie was "Matrix", now "Snatch" is up there with it. Have you ever watched a movie and afterwards you couldn't stop thinking about it? then you know how I felt.
Stylish British gangster films - I love 'em!
posted on 01 Jul 2009While not as funny as 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels', this movie is every bit as good. I am a big fan of this type of movie. The slick British gangster film, stylish and fast paced. This one intertwines two plots, illegal boxing and a stolen diamond. Throw in a few dead bodies, a dog, some pigs, gypsies and gangsters, and you've got a great film on your hands.
Great movie. One of the best!
posted on 01 Jul 2009Snatch has it all! Great fighting, great actors, great storyline, goodcomedy, except beautiful women. Brad Pitt, Jason Strattham, andDenis Farina were off the wall, and histaricle! And Brad Pitts voicein the movie was amazing! A must see movie for people who likethose actors, and that genra.
Another point for Britain
posted on 01 Jul 2009This movie had one flaw...Diction. The britsh was so cockney I couldn't understand a word they were saying. But other than that it was badass. It worked so perfectly. The story, the way it was filmed was totally flawless. It was boss. Jason Statham was very good in this movie. I was quite enjoying the depth in characters. Thats what I love in movies. I can't believe they put Brad Pitt in this. All together this was a brilliant. I love Guy Richie movies. Perfect Cast. Perfect Story. Perfectly Filmed. See it and be amazed. ********************************* out of *************************************.
Just like the stone, "Snatch" is flawless
posted on 23 Jun 2009What a great film in every aspect. In my opinion, the writing alone made this movie, from the classic British sarcasm, to the story itself.
Everything in this movie meshed together to make it one of the all time greats. And without that meshing, it would not have been nearly as good.
That dog....it had me in stitches!!
posted on 05 Jun 2009I saw Lock, Stock when it first came out, and loved it, I knew it would be huge because of the love of gangster films flockin about at the time. When I went to see Snatch I was not expecting it to be that good, I thought it would be too close to Lock, Stock and everyone had already started to refer to it as a sequel, when it is clearly not.Snatch centres around a few people, but the narrator is an illegal boxing promoter called Turkish, who gets into trouble when his boxer is knocked out by an indecipherable Irish guy called Mickey, who is played brilliantly by Brad Pitt. There are alot of things going on here, but the good thing about this film is that they all get tied up and twisted around each other at the end, so there are no loose ends.I was surprised at the performance of Brad Pitt, he's a bit too mainstream for me, but in this film his acting and accent are superb. The only bit I didn't like involving him is when he stares into the flames, that is a bit too much like a hollywood blockbuster scene.Anyway, overall I loved this film. Oh and the dog I mentioned, watch out for it, its soooooo funny!I give this film 9 out of 10
Maybe one of the best(if not the best)comedies ever made
posted on 05 Jun 2009"This movie rocks!" You know that line don't you? It really does rock. I've seen this movie more times than I can count!:) I can watch it every day, and every time it'll make me laugh. Everything about the movie is great. The script, the cast, the soundtrack. Even though the movie is a bit MTV-video-clip-like it still is great. You don't even notice these things until after the movie has finished. The leading actors are great. Jason Statham is one of the best actors these days. Alan Ford also gives an incredible display as "Bricktop". He is just amazing. Benicio Del Toro is also great. He isn't in a lot of scenes, but whenever he is on screen you immediately get to like it. The story is perfect for this type of movie. Diamonds, money, England, funny accent, funny characters. The "Pikeys" are EXTREME. You just love the accent. When they tell Turkish and Tommy they want a caravan for Mickey's mom and the two of them can't understand what are they saying, or when they are betting on the field about the last match and the rabbit. It's just amazing. And the one-liners are great. Just great. My favorites are Alan Ford's "Do you know what nemesis means? A righteous infliction of retribution, manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by a horrible c-nt. Me!" and Jason Statham's "Protecion from what? Zee Germans!" I give this movie 12 out of 10. Watch it. WATCH IT! NOW! You'll not regret it. This is one of the finest movies ever.
Super smash 'n' grab
posted on 03 Jun 2009Guy Ritchie and the boys show that Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels was just a launch pad.Snatch juggles more characters, more convuluted plotlines and more gags than Lock, Stock, and is a far more satisfying treat. The cinematography is spot on the money, slick without looking like a commercial. The soundtrack is pumping, and even manages to fit in a (personal joke?) Madonna track.Every principle, of which there certainly are a few, turn in excellent performances, bringing their cartoon character gangsters to life. Bullet Tooth, Four Fingers, Brick Top? Do people really have names like these?Brad Pitt manages to invent a whole new language (pikey), Mike Reid shows he does have a life outside of Eastenders and smutty stand up, and there's even a chance for Ewen Bremner to roughly reprise his role as Spud in Trainspotting.Catch it before ze germans arrive.
Now that was worth 10 bucks !! (18 with soda and popcorn)
posted on 03 Jun 2009It has been rare that I have walked out of a movie theater and was pleased. Guy Ritchie is able to keep the pace fast and moving at all times. I would have given it a 10 if it weren't for the 'ard to 'ear accents. It is such a well done ensemble cast that not one character overtakes another (particularly with stars Brad Pitt and Dennis Farina. The humor is witty and at times very understated but enough to make you laugh out loud (many many times). With all the crap that is churned out of Hollywood, it is refreshing to see a film that comes across as though it was crafted by professionals who love their work more than making money.GO SEE IT !!!!!
been there, done that, but it still kicks butt!
posted on 30 May 2009okay, most, if not all, reviews of "snatch" inevitably state that it is exactly like "lock, stock, and two smoking barrels," down to plot twists, dialogue, characters, and actors. this is true. "snatch" contains all of the elements that made "lock, stock" a major hit. but it does it even better. so what if guy ritchie's script and direction is nearly identical? he's given "snatch" a better script and better actors. the script is just marvelous, the camera gimmicks are more entertaining and enhancing than pretentious. and brad pitt gives his best performance as a gypsy irish who is even more indecipherable than benicio del toro's mumbles in "usual suspects." mike reid as brick top is utterly frightening, boris the blade is hilarious, and the scenes with tyrone, vincent, sol and the dog are unbelievably funny. go see this movie. it's fast, furious, and an absolutely wonderful time.
Brad Pitt and Benico Del Toro...
posted on 30 May 2009I thought the only good thing about this movie was Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro. I've seen a lot of movies, and this one...was one of the worst ones I've seen. Half of the time you can't understand what anyone's saying, and they jump around alot, from characters to characters. I still don't know which ones were good and which ones were bad... Anyways, I would recommend not seeing this movie, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions....I will definitly NOT be renting this movie again....The best part of this movie was watching Brad Pitt box, shirtless......and you can see Brad shirtless in other movies...
Plain Speaking
posted on 26 May 2009What do Irish gypsies, a bullet dodging Russian, a bullet toothed hitman, a 400 lb getaway driver, bare knuckle boxing, a ravenous dog, a pig-farm-owning-gangster, a flawless 84 carat diamond, and two hopelessly unlucky small time crooks have in common? A hilarious spoof of your most feared Hollywood gangster movies. This story is one week in the life of two really 'good fellows', who spiral down the road to gangster doom, all for the want of a second hand trailer home. (A.K.A Caravan). Now this film has been around a while, and the first time I saw it, was on VHS. I didn't think about it, but if you get it on DVD, you might want to turn on the English Subtitles.I'm not kidding. The story also spoofs the various impossibilities of the spoken English language, and having subtitles just may help you from straining your ears. It's a little dated, but see it anyway. It's a good laugher.

A Stylish & Engaging Thriller... Congratulations Guy Ritchie!
posted on 20 Aug 2009Guy Ritchie has directed a stylish and engaging thriller the likes of which I have not seen in many years (I kept having feelings not experienced since "Pulp Fiction" and perhaps even 1985's "No Surrender" - but that was a long time ago and an altogether very different film). I enjoy good thrillers and this one is top-notch. Yes, there is a lot of violence - including unlicensed, bare-knuckle boxing - but the omnipresent humour lets the audience accept the violence as the context within which stories like this happen. It's hard to wince when a dog in the background is squeaking because of a squeaky toy it had swallowed whole earlier in the film. Not tremendously clever but it works very well in this movie. The acting? Top drawer stuff. Jason Statham's "Turkish" is excellent and even Brad Pitt's performance is very good. Alan Ford's "Brick Top" is absolutely wonderfully delivered - this character is positively scary - and Dennis Farina ("Cousin Avi") is quite good as well. Sure, none of the roles called for much emotional range but there were no embarrassing accents or out-of-character moments which destroy lesser outings. The entire cast merits high marks - as much for supplying the comic relief as for ensuring that no part of this movie dragged. The story? It's actually an amalgam of several stories where the weaving is at such a breakneck speed that you have to keep on top of the cast of characters or you run the risk of losing the thread altogether. The stylish introduction of all the main characters at the beginning of the movie turns out to be not only style but substance. While the story starts out as a standard heist plot, it departs from it very quickly as one group after another is brought into contact with - and possession of - the stolen gem. The interesting thing is that story ends up being as much about "One Punch" Mickey O'Neil (Brad Pitt), an Irish gypsy (called "Pikey's" apparently) as it is about this giant diamond. The real interest in this story comes from the connections between the quest for this diamond and the story about Mickey O'Neill's abbreviated boxing career. If you can keep up with its pace, "Snatch" is an excellent thriller to go see and will certainly be first class video rental fodder in the future. Congratulations to Guy Ritchie - I'll be renting his earlier outing, "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" sometime soon. For the time being, I give this one a 9.
