Underrated teen film
posted on 31 Aug 2009In the wake of all of the hype surrounding the "Brat Pack" movies of the 1980's, this bittersweet teen flick gets lost in the fold. True, it is a "John Hughes" film, but it doesn't contain any of those annoying teens who appear and re-appear in so many of the same movies. The best part of this is the young Eric Stoltz. His portrayal of the somewhat shy and very sensitive Keith just makes my heart melt. (Where, oh where, can I find a man like that?) Also, I have to mention the very hilarious Elias Koteas as Keith's skinhead friend. That was definitely a strange role to see him in! Very good film, worth seeing over and over again.
Awesome. How can you go wrong with John Hughes?
posted on 31 Aug 2009Classic 80's teen angst romantic comedy. My favorite types of movies. The soundtrack kicks all ass, and it sure is refreshing seeing a regular Joe such as Keith (Eric Stoltz) put a snob like Hardee Jenns in his place. This movie's got it all: romance, humor (damn awesome writing and dialogue between Watts and Keith), and above all, HEART. It's great. I own it, and you should, too. -Skip Frederiksen
Round and Round They Go....
posted on 31 Aug 2009The highlight of this movie is hearing the underrated classic "Miss Amanda Jones". Watts, the drummer, is great as the sensitive tomboy. The 1 reason this film DOESN'T get 5 stars is because the classic song "Some Kind of Wonderful" isn't featured in it, to my knowledge. Heck, the movie Can't Buy Me Love isn't about the Beatles, but at least the song is included. Come on, guys!
absolutely cool
posted on 31 Aug 2009I think the script of this film is very straight forward. However, Mary played very good. Watts was the type of gal I adore. After watching this movie, I knew what I really wanna be. I wanna be as cool as her! Or simply like her! She was very generous as well. She could even fix a date for Keith. And the ending was very happy, too. Guess what. I watched this film in 1999. But I don't think it is old-fashioned. Olddies is goodies!
Wondeful. Nuff said.
posted on 31 Aug 2009This movie was a classic. Granted, I was all of eleven when it came out, and I was 12 when I saw it (too young to see it in the theater). All i remember is that for any kid that was strivingt to be in the in crowd (hey, who didn't?) This movie is your story, where you get the happy ending. Hey, sometimes, even I was able to enlist the help of a class bully to help me out. And what about that classic eighties music? Especially at the end of the movie!
Genuine teen angst, Masterson is great !!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009I grew up in the L.A. area in the 1970's. I had an obnoxious sister, a " greaser " good friend, and a beautiful good " buddy " I didn't realize was there. Believe me, this film tells it like it was for some of us. If my " buddy " looked like Mary Stuart Masterson, there would be a Mrs. in front of my Mr. on our Christmas cards. John Hughes was paying attention.
Essential Teen Angst
posted on 31 Aug 2009Before teen angst was a household word, it was a movie. Great music, great scene. Good actors, good supporting cast. Drama, comedy. New wave before it was alternative. Skaters and jocks living and learning in the same neighborhood on the same planet in the same solar system. What could be more real?
Solid John Hughes production
posted on 31 Aug 2009Basically reversing the roles from Pretty In Pink, it's easy to see why so many people love this film. From the great soundtrack to the solid characterizations, there really aren't any weak moments. Particularly good is Elias Koteas as Duncan, and Mary Stewart Masterson as Watts--luminous in a tomboy role.
I love best friends falling in love with each other!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009If you believe that best friends can become couples then you will adore and love this movie. Mary Stuart Masterson is great in this movie and Eric Stoltz perfectly plays the clueless object of her affection! It is a great movie!!
Three great actors for the price of one.
posted on 31 Aug 2009How can you lose? You've got Stoltz, Masterson and Thompson, all before they became big stars. The teen angst is genuine, the characters a little too cute, but the ending just what every heartsick high-schooler could want. Masterson serves every tomboy/unappreciated best friend just right.
THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!! FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009This movie is the best! This is my favorite movie of all time!!!!
I have watched this movie so many times I have it memorized (sad but true) However, I never get tired of it no matter how many times I watch it! WATZ played by Marie Stuart Masterson is what makes this movie! This is the perfect 80's love triangle movie even better than The Breakfast Club which is another great movie! IF YOU HAVEN'T seen this movie you are missing out!!
FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!
Greatest '80s movie ever!!
posted on 31 Aug 2009This is one of the best movies of all time and by far the best movie of the '80s. We all went to high school with these people, we all loved or hated them depending on where we stood. It's like going back again without the bad hair cuts and tacky clothes.
This is a great little movie about falling in love. And I must add that "the kiss" in this movie is perfection. Eric Stoltz and Mary Stuart Masterson made you feel it... all the way to your toes.
Pretty in Black Leather
posted on 31 Aug 2009One of my favourite movies ever. A feel good movie with a thumping soundtrack, SKOW has an ending that although a little cheesy has one of the classic ending lines. (watch it to find out!). Mary Stuart Masterson is outstanding (and outstandingly cute in leather and denim!) as the Drum playing Tomboy Watts who has fallen for the artistic non-conforming Keith (Eric Stolz). The storyline is a little predictable (or maybe thats just cos I've seen it too many times) but you just don't care as the film
takes you through all the emotions you remember in your own teenage angst ridden years. A must see for any 'teen' of the late 80's or early 90's.
good movie!
posted on 31 Aug 2009Some Kind Of Wonderful remains one of my favorite 80s movies. Not quite up there with Pretty In Pink, but nonetheless very entertaining. Eric Stolz is great as the loner Keith and I totally sympathize with Mary Stuart Masterson's Watts. The girl has it bad and she's only seen as a friend. She suffers from the "Ducky" syndrome a la Pretty In Pink. Lea Thompson is also very appealing in this role. Awesome music!! I especially love the song playing during the scene where Keith and Watts "Kiss" in the garage. Can't wait for the dvd! :)

BEST TEEN FLICK EVER
posted on 31 Aug 2009I am not a John Hughes fan, but this disarming movie takes the "teen" out of teen flick. The characters are so keenly drawn, and the poignant, potent romantic entanglements so utterly winning, that this movie is hard to resist. Mary Stuart Masterson is simply heartbreaking in this movie, and unaffecedly so; Eric Stoltz has never been more appealing, or attractive. The details follow suit -- from Keith's realistic family to the Barbie-like world of the "pretty kids". This simple movie earns its well-deserved emotional lift, and remains with you.
