i have already seen this
posted on 24 Aug 2009i feel like i just wasted 2 hours of my life. i have already seen this movie. it was called YOU GOT SERVED. this is a pathetic attempt to match it. ******SPOILERS********** 1. movie starts off with 2 groups "battling" in dancing for money, with a dude who is in charge and holds the money (sound familiar?) 2. someone gets shot and it is oh so tragic (sound familiar?) 3. two black guys get in a fight over a girl (sound familiar?) 4. the movie builds up to a big competition, including MTV vjs (sound familiar?) 5. the competition ends in *gasp* a tie (sound familiar?) 6. the 2 teams which have been enemies the whole time get to duke it out in a dance/step competition and of course the good guys win, guy gets the girl, blah blah (sound familiar?)terrible.
Simple yet very Entertaining..
posted on 24 Aug 2009Columbus Short did a good number on this one. Meagan Good as always will be known for the girl that the main guy likes.I just hope, she does not do too much movies like this. It is like she is doing the same roles on all her movies. (Only commenting on the movies that I saw). I do think she has potential.A very inspirational movie, yes it's a little boring I have to admit. But the dance routines are very well rehearsed. That's why this movie was not all that bad.The dancers make it seem like a piece of cake when they are dancing.A good DVD movie, for you and a boyfriend/girlfriend.
Stop Sippin on that Haterade!
posted on 20 Aug 2009This movie may have not been the best movie ever but I don't think it was not entertaining that it deserves a 2.2. If you were in the theater alone, then maybe. I went and saw this with two 17 year old girls. I am a 15 year old male. There is plenty of eye candy to go around so we were all pretty into it because the lead guy has not shirt for half, and the main girl has more cleavage than Jennifer Love Huette in Ghost Wisperer. Now on to the movie. The story line and the acting were not good, so if you are that interested in watching a movie with deep plot and great casting see something else, not Night at the Museum. This is a mix between Drumline and every dancing movie ever made, but you HEAR the ryhthm, unlike all of those other dancing movies where you see everything. I give this an 8 because the dancing in this was amazing. I was even glad to see stars from one of my favorite movies, Rize. Tight Eyez and Miss Prissy were in the opening scene. There was dancing throughout and good music that we were all dancing on the edge of our seats.
Must see!
posted on 12 Aug 2009I think this would have to be one of my favorites. From reading the other comments that I have seen posted by other guys, I want to suggest something to the guys out there. Just because the movie does not sexually arouse you in anyway, does not make it a bad movie. From reading other comments, that is what I was lead to imply about the reasons for people not liking the movie that would rather see something that is more arousing.I would have to say that this movie is a must see for all who are able to think and do not need everything showed to them before it will be understood.

posted on 02 Aug 2009I know the comment made by this person has never been, seen or read on the history of steppin' as it pertains to the African-American college scene. The movie tried to show an aspect of African-American fraternities and sororities within the frame work of a feature film. There are four major fraternities and four major sororities, to try and show all of their contributions would take way more than two hours. The use of major rap stars to get people to watch the movie is not the problem. Advertisers use colors, vocab, timing, age, etc. to bring perspective people to a product. Please read and understand before making a bad judgment. On any given Saturday anyone can watch USC football and hear all of the famous people that have come from that college, but how many times has that happened for the African-American colleges? I don't want this to break down into a race battle, but please read and understand the history that the movie has tried to portray. Matter-of-fact there was a picture of Michael Jordan shown in the movie, but they never showed what fraternity that Michael Jordan belonged to. Well to flesh that out he belongs to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Also, Thurgood Marshall belongs to the same fraternity and he was a Supreme Court Judge. So, I say this to let people know that there is a lot of information below the surface if you care to look!!
Worst movie in a long time!
posted on 19 Jul 2009I didn't want to see this movie but my girlfriend dragged me out to see it.. I wanted to see the Departed again last night. Turned out to be the worst decision of the night.Horrible acting, Horrible story, very corny.. I don't recommend anyone to see this movie unless you know the cast and crew members and decide to make fun of them ..I guess the only people who would enjoy this movie are the Disney channel watching little kids who are into this new dance fad thing. Even if my little cousins likes this movie I think I'll be forced to disown them from my family.. If there's a choice to see this movie again or jump off a bridge .. i think i'd accept the latter!
awesome movie
posted on 05 Jul 2009I'm a white 16 y/o guy that live right by st. Louis and i have seen other movies that have been similar to this...the story line is about the same with some differences....the movie is very predictable...but the stomping is awesome...i love to watch movies like this...this was a very good movie...and very worth the 7.50 i spent to see it....go watch it...and if your white...be prepared to be the only white guy in there...so don't see it if your a sick racist...another thing...that makes this movie better than the other ones is that April is FINE!....it can get sad at some parts but all together the movie is awesome...i wish i could step like them....but i didn't like the whole fraternity thing...i didn't know that fraternities had step teams...i guess i am too white
Breakin' was a better movie
posted on 01 Jul 2009I am a fan of the old Breakin' movies and music from when rap first came out in the 80s and was G-rated. Stomp the Yard was truly a comedy that wasn't intended to be one. Remember that scene from Dodgeball when Ben Stiller's team comes into the ring making snake sounds? That is what this movie was like. There was only about 10 minutes of good dancing and the rest of the dancing was crap. A corny show, but it made me laugh, which was perfect for a Friday night.I would not watch this movie again if it appeared on TV. Nor would I recommend anyone pay money to rent/watch it.The plot is full of clichés, stereotypes, etc. to the point that my suspension of disbelief was broken and the movie just seemed downright corny.I still enjoyed it because it was a good laugh. And I still listen to my old Grand Master Flash CD with the old school G-rated break dancing music. =)
I loved Stomp The Yard
posted on 01 Jul 2009Well I highly Disagree with Doctor K. I felt the Movie was great. it was a great college movie....I would like to say that it depends on where you come from for you truly get the meaning of the movie....it was nothing like you got served and it was better. Well i feel that in order for you to critique something you have to had been in that position before which I can clearly see you haven't. the movie was showing that college was not all about work, work, work and test, test, test but you can have fun in college, join sororities and have fun while your accomplishing big things. I feel as a freshmen in High School that movie was good it taught me to stay in school and to go to college and just have fun it's not as boring as people say that it is(college that is) It taught me to join a sorority....Oh and another thing if you never seen it than stop leaving comments HATERS STUT UP YOU NEVER EVEN SEEN IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN TALK I SEEN IT I'm starting to get the vibe that you do like it you just want to get a little attention>>>Why wait and see it on demand when you think that it is crap OOOOOOO Busted you do like it like i said attention. It's very good and so what if its similar to you got served ,it's not
This movie was great!
posted on 27 Jun 2009This movie was great! I am a young, African-American, college graduate. I believe that anyone who is open minded and loves dancing and culture will enjoy watching this movie. Even though, I have never pledged, I have always been intrigued by Greek Life. I love it when a group of people can come together for a common, positive reason. It did bring out most of the common stereotypes of Greek life, positive and negative. It had a great plot and it was entertaining from beginning to end. It was awesome seeing some new and up and coming talent mixed in with some moderately known actors and actresses. If you like movies such as Drumline, You Got Served, Breakin' and Breakin2 2 (1980's). I would go see it again!
what a waste of time
posted on 25 Jun 2009Alright let's get this straight...last night my girlfriend actually got me to see this movie that was ''SOOOOOOOO BRILLIANT SO FUN AND SOO GOOD'' ...So Damn !! I just watched it, who actually would refuse to see a movie that someone tells you is good...well Don't DO IT, just don't watch stomp the yard ...first of all, the plot is very easy to figure out, and by easy I mean like 10 minutes after you pushed the start movie button... You see this black guy who always danced and stuff..his cousin gets killed by some white ass guy who had been defeated in a break dance competition ...(omg wtf, it's like killing someone for having lost at chest ....eeew...) and after that the black guy doesn't want to dance anymore but you actually know he will, only by the title of this piece of garbage...So after that, the main character called DJ goes to a new city a new school, you know a really really original introduction to a movie... So it's really easy to know at the beginning that DJ is gonna be the leader of a break dance team, he's gonna have to defeat a rival break dance team, Screw the other team's captain girl, and make his cousin special move to win the competition... I know I only bitched at the movie, but it his hard to describe how bad it is... SO I will only tell you what was good, the main title and the ending credits.... for anything else... the acting is bad, the plot is bad, the main story is bad, it deserve minus 1000000, it's almost worst than Paris Hilton's the hottie and the nottie... don't rent this, don't watch this just act like you've never heard of it....
Stomp the Yard
posted on 19 Jun 2009This movie was extremely inspiring. Showing that anyone can come out of a bad situation with their head held high. By far one of the best movies I've seen... ever. The actors were excellent. At the end everyone was smiling and clapping. I hope the writers know that they have changed my life. The same situation happened to me. I recently lost a close friend, and this film gave me inspiration. The only other movie that has influenced me this much was "The Gardian." It was also very inspiring. Also, the actors looked like pros at "Stomping." 5 Stars, All the Way!Great Job.
Great Movie! Not what I was expecting at all!
posted on 03 Jun 2009Nobody should pay attention to the rating above, which is now at an atrocious 2.0. I'll bet that half the people that voted didn't even see this movie, and just gave it a bad rating because they're ignorant, and possibly even racist... I'll admit, I wasn't expecting to like this movie when I went to see it, but there are no good movies out at this moment, so my girlfriend and I chose Stomp the Yard. Don't get me wrong, its not winning any Academy Awards, but it greatly surpassed what I was expecting. With most movies like this one, its hard to find dancers that can act, and actors that can dance, but I have to say, this movie did contain very well acting, and a great cast. Everyone should see this movie, its inspiring!!!
Overall a great movie.
posted on 08 May 2009I went to the movie w/ some cousins and they are frat/soro's from College. We really enjoyed the movie. Though, as some people stated, the story line was somewhat similar, the overall movie was entertaining. It brought me back to the days on the "yard" and hanging out when the greeks stepped and "came out". I think the brothers that completed this film did a great job at delivering it.For those that appear to be hating on the movie. Get a life. If U didn't like it, that doesn't mean someone else won't.If u went to college, I think you would have identified with it more, especially if u went to a Black college or HBCU. But even if, u didn't the essence of the movie was phenomenal. It's funny because as we were leaving the movie a group of white "kids" who were leaving the film, were mocking it stating that the Movie was "gay" to them, etc. They couldn't identify, but I guess if the movie was about getting drunk till u passed out or taking advantage of girls, then they would have. Go figure....
Racism is all i can say
posted on 06 May 2009I am Hispanic and I am curious to know, why is it that most of these African American cultures movies that come out always get low ratings. I thought this movie was off the hook. Talented dancers, it had a moral about education and its importance, discussed teamwork, contained some history pertaining to fraternities, contained, good acting, etc. So why did this movie get such a low rating? It ha to be a bunch of white Americans rating this because most black movies get low ratings and its quite aggravating. The only reason I didn't give it a 10/10 was because the story was not original. Explain to me why OLD SCHOOL was about a white fraternity and it got a 6.8 rating and this one which I thought was 20 times better got a 3.1? I feel it's racism. People, it's a good movie. Forget the ratings because if this starred Britney Spears and Lindsey Lowhan, it probably would have gotten a 7.5
Soo unreal/Yeah right
posted on 02 May 2009I'm not a negative person but this movie wasn't good, not TRUE at all. This was nothing but a newer You Got Served but at college, that's what they should have called it part 2. It was a good quality movie but so unreal like Drumline, and everybody in college, well a HBCU can agree honestly. The writer did know history and he was not knowledgeable of the actual facts of the Fraternal background. Thats why they don't let freshman pledge because they are unaware of the school/frat history. With this movie people will think the black colleges are all about ans like this. This guy had no right to be in any frat his first year of college. So unreal, Kappa Kappa Psi Derek D Jamison Derekddj@yahoo.com. email for any additional questions PLEASE anyone
Did I miss something?
posted on 24 Apr 2009Apparently the makers of this movie did... actually they missed several things. This movie is basically a mass of stereotypes. They're ALL there... let's run through it, shall we? First, you have the obligatory waste-of-time opening sequence. This is the part that might as well have had a red caution sign flashing that said, WARNING: this movie sucks. Get out of here and save yourself the trouble.Next, you have the "too-badass for class antagonist." I believe I saw this kind of character in "You Got Served." (Another cinematic turd.) Then there's the chick on campus that takes a shine to the main dude, but turns on him once he screws up and does/says something stupid. And finally, the fact that there's almost no good dialogue, and no comedy to flesh it out.If you're going to make a movie, take these things into account... it'll help. And now, for the verdict: this movie is a 1 out of 10.By the way, this is based on the fact that I actually saw it... I'm not racist in any sense of the word.
Best Movie All Year! (Please Don't Look At IMDb User Rating)
posted on 16 Apr 2009It's crazy. IMDb users are a bunch of racist people. They want this movie to goto the bottom because it has "black" people in it.This movie has been the best movie I have seen in a long time. It was enjoyable and I would advise EVERYONE to go see it. It was so good, that I saw it with my girlfriend as much as I saw it with my best friends. The movie gets a 10. Nothing less. I can't believe it did good. Number One in the box office! I hope everyone enjoys this movie. This was better than most movies out. I'd watch this over Children Of Men ANY DAY. (As you can tell its going on DVD soon) I hope Stomp The Yard stays in Theaters for a long time.
Don't take things so seriously, this was a fun movie
posted on 10 Apr 2009I walked into this movie knowing nothing about it other than that ridiculous line from the previews in which Sway is yelling, "I've never seen stepping like this before!" But I knew better than to take it seriously. Of course this wasn't a great movie in the sense of being a work of art. It didn't break any new ground thematically, cinematically, or culturally. But let's be honest, it had no such intentions. This movie was designed to be watched purely for entertainment value. And in that respect, it was successful.A large part of the movie's appeal probably just came from laughing at the particularly inane moments - "TNT is the most powerful explosive known to man!" - but let's not kid ourselves, the creators meant for things to be this way. And give credit where due - the dance scenes are definitely impressive at points. So while this movie undoubtedly deserves its poor reviews, I frankly had a lot of fun watching it. So if you go in with the right expectations, this can be an enjoyable movie. And please, don't be so sensitive that you get offended by the "perpetuation of African American stereotypes." Just get over it.

For once the hype was right
posted on 26 Aug 2009I was expecting another a "Drumline" but this movie had flavor of its own. It wasn't too corny or too sappy. The dance moves were hot, the guys were hot (Columbus Short, Brain J. White, Laz Alonso)and the soundtrack was hot. What more do you want from this film. It wasn't an extended music video like "Idlewild". There was a good moral story to tell with well developed characters and some comic relief. You really start to feel for the lead character. You can see him grow into a better person and acquire life changing characteristics. This movie is about personal development. He doesn't just go to college to learn academics but also how to work with other people as a team and learns to stick up for himself and most important to learn how to forgive. If you liked "Rollbounce" then you will most likely appreciate this movie for what it is- a feel good just have fun film.
