Obsession. Betrayal. Revenge. Some girls have all the fun.
Ben Cronin had the perfect life until he met the new girl.
His biggest fan just became his worst nightmare.
Wanna pretend that it never happened?
It's murder getting the man you want.
Hold...Your...Breath...
Ben Cronin has it all: the admiration of his many friends, a terrific girlfriend, and he's on the fast-track to an athletic scholarship. Not that it's been easy - every day Ben juggles countless hours in the pool (training for a critical swim meet), with a job at the local hospital, and finding quality time with his high school sweetheart, Amy. Ben's rock-solid, promising future and romance with Amy are turned upside-down with the arrival of Madison Bell. Madison, the "new girl in town," quickly sets her sights on the impressionable Ben. While their first few meetings are innocent enough, the obsessive and seductive Madison wants more - much more. Seducing Ben is only beginning; she becomes his biggest "fan" and most unexpected nightmare, as her obsessions quickly spiral out of control into betrayal, madness and, ultimately, murder.

Don't Subject Yourself to Cruelty
posted on 23 Aug 2009This movie was such an absolute piece of crap. It was bad enough when they remade Dangerous Liaisons as Cruel Intentions, but at least they had Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon rising above the material and trying to act like it was a real film. Swimfan has no redeeming qualities. A Fatal Attraction for our generation? I don't think so. I'll take the original, thank you very much - this one can land on the shelf where it belongs.
Swimfan was really good if you don't compare.
posted on 23 Aug 2009I understand that this movie was like Fatal Attraction, but there are a lot of movies that we could compare any movie to if we were to seriously break it down and compare them to another. This movie was very good, and I loved it. I thought the whole experience of cheating and the gf closeness was great really. I mean even thought it was comparable this is a separate film, and I really enjoyed it. Oh by the way for all the horn dogs that were talking about Madison and Amy and how they looked....Madison was hot for a thick girl...and I thought Amy was beautiful. Thats my opinion don't disagree with my comment unless you don't like what I said about the movies, not the girls. This was really a good movie.
Great Friday Night Fun!
posted on 30 Jul 2009Here's the way to enjoy Swimfan. Don't take it seriously. Yes, the entire movie was told in the 2 minute trailer, but it's fun. It's one of those wonderful meaningless movies that you go to on a Friday night to be surrounded by junior high kids who just got dropped off by mom and dad at the theatre door. The acting isn't great, the plot is nothing new. But, it's a really fun movie It was worth the 7.75 simply for the entertainment value.
swimfan =not a bad breastroke
posted on 22 Jul 2009I had huge hopes for this movie and when it was over not a bad flick. At times it was very predictable and been done before a 100 times over. But i knew that going in ,the acting was very convincing and top notch. My only cheif complaint it needed to be at least another 15 - 20 minutes longer. For me this is more like a guilty pleasure like film.Others will enjoy while some may think its a complete waste .Overall it delivers on most fronts and is very fast paced.I have always been a fan for this type of genre boarding on horror, so my opinion may be a little biased.
Worse than Gigli
posted on 20 Jul 2009Wow, what to say of quite possibly the worst film I have ever seen. I'm going to spoil most of the film, so if you haven't seen it, don't read.
Where to begin? Off the top of my head, a steroid test administered 20 minutes before a swimming meet would not give results that quick. A coach would never tell an athlete as the competition started that he was off the team. From a former swimmer who was pretty decent, I can tell you, people in the school do not kiss up to you and are scared as if you are about to get a football scholarship to Florida State. How does the fat girl's cousin all of a sudden become friends with Ben, and help him fool her? How did the fat girl get into the hospital and switch a tray of drugs, and know exactly which ones would be going to that old, horny guy? Oh, another thing, as I mentioned, being a former swimmer, I know it is damn near impossible that this guy could have started swimming in juvie at 15 or so, and two years later, would have the times to get into Stanford. Also, if Stanford was trying to recruit this degenerate, two people would not fly out to New Jersey to see him. A graduate assistant would come see him, and wouldn't be wearing a shirt and tie. Again, this guy isn't going to play football for Florida State. Overall, I think you could get more enjoyment out of Gigli.
At least with J. Lo, there's something to look at. I'm glad I my friend works at the video store, so I didn't have to pay for this one, yet debating ever speaking to him again, as there was no warning when renting the movie.
However, there are a few editing techniques I liked, such as the blue tints inside pretty boy's house, and the rapid jump cuts during some of the "seduction" scenes if you want to call them that. Wow, I could keep going and going, but I'm just getting more angry thinking about this film. It should've been nominated and won a lot of Razzie's.
Swimfan, 5 stars >> ultimate summer thriller!!
posted on 26 Jun 2009This movie was totally what I thought it would be plus more! "Swimfan" keeps you in suspense and thinking what's going to happen next; that "edge of your seat" feeling. This movie was a hit, I would definitely recommend "Swinfan" to ANYONE!!
"Very Suspenseful!"
posted on 20 Jun 2009 "Swimfan" is actually the teen version of "Fatal Attraction" in which a good-looking swim jock, engaged to a cute simple creature, sleeps with another girl unbeknownst to him who is a psycho. Once this psycho realizes she can never have the jock she goes out of her way to destroy him and his girlfriend. I was actually surprised how good this film was. Jesse Bradford is breathtaking to look at and Erika Christensen portrays the role of the psycho to perfection. The movie had a lot of exciting moments and the message of it is clear: if you play around you can get burned.
The DVD features 10 deleted scenes, audio commentary by the stars and director John Polson, and a wonderful featurette "The Girlfriend From Hell".
The Associated Press calls "Swimfan" a "creepy thriller".
I loved it.
posted on 20 Jun 2009Swimfan was a decent suspense movie for the teenage genre. I assure you this is very cleche, but lets face it, so was Titanic. Swimfan delivered quite a few scares, some laughter, and some intense moments. It is kind of like Fear meets Fatal Attraction only better. The editing is awesome and the main characters did a good job. My MPPA rating: PG-13 for disturbing and sexual content, some language and violence, all involving teens.
This movie was awesome!
posted on 12 Jun 2009Swimfan was an awesome movie, Erika Christenson did a GREAT job at being a psycho! Oh my God, the camera angles were so cool, they made the movie even freakier then it already was! This movie was FREAKY...but so GOOD, everyone under the age of 35 should see this movie! If your over 35, you're probably gonna think this movie is sorta trashy and weird...but I seriously thought it was one of the best movies I've ever saw!
Down to the Point
posted on 12 Jun 2009I just want to get down to the point with this review. Let's just say that it wasn't what I thought it would be. The plot was very good, I'll agree to that, but it didn't seem right in a teen movie. It jumped around quite a bit and it seemed like the actors were actors, not exactly living the part, but merely playing them, unsuccessfully. The story line was also very rushed and if it was given more time to develop, the movie could have been much better. Still, the idea behind it was good, because it showed how are obsession could go . . .
Fatal Attraction with teens
posted on 10 Jun 2009Basically if you have seen or heard of Fatal Attraction, this is the same movie. The high school jock with a big future and great girlfriend has a one night stand with the new girl in school. Of course she becomes insane, and starts demanding things of Bradford as she slowly destroys his life. And yes, this is another movie where if he just told the truth and admitted his mistake, the entire movie would be over. And if you can guess where this movie is going you need not bother seeing it. Stick with Fatal Attraction, it's a much better movie, with better writing and actors.
OK thriller, but rent Fatal Attraction instead
posted on 29 May 2009This movie is just a teenaged Fatal Attraction. The director copied Adrien Lyne in the cinematography as it shows the same frame from different angles and such. The characters are beleivable despite the fact that teenagers dont usually become obsessed stalkers. The movie is actually good, not great but decent. Erika Christensen is good as the stalker type and the other actors make a good delivery as the stalkees. 5/10.
why ?
posted on 17 May 2009This was possibly the worst movie I have ever seen , or at least it stands out in my mind that way thinking about it . It was rated here as 15's though a drunk child could have figured out the ''surprise'' ending . I'm not usually one to complain too much about a movie but this one did nothing for me . Its no more than some soft-core porn and soft-core violence blended into an hour and a half of predictable dialouge . The ending came as no shock at all and I presume that it was supposed to . I gather from the name that the writer's wanted to do something original but the name is the only original thing about this movie . It is your typical teen horror/thriller with your typical stereotype teen's . Most of it is set in a school and preety much none of it is really believable . Even for a generic teen thriller . The only people I would advise to see this movie are those who read reviews like this and feel they have to see it just to see how bad it really was . I felt like I had been robbed of my money and time . At the back of my mind the entire time watching it I though to myself ''There are so many other better movie's on right now in the same building . Why am I watching this ? ''
WHAT A GREAT MOVIE!
posted on 09 May 2009Even though they say its another teen movie so they totally think that it sucks, but they have to see it. It was really really great and i would like to see it again. The actors were great especially Erica for being so crazy and the guy from bring it on (forgot his name) this was a total different part from him but he did great. Everyone should go and see it, i know i will again!
Fodder that seems to work better than it should
posted on 29 Apr 2009Ben Cronin (Bradford) is one of those high schoolers that almost had it all: plenty of good friends, a sweet girlfriend (Appleby), and the swimming skills of a champion. His life and success track are scrambled, however, with the introduction to Madison Bell (Christensen), a vixen who becomes smitten with him. Madison seduces Ben in the pool one night, and while he feels guilty after a session of horizontal watersports, Masison goes Glen Close in Fatal Attraction crazy when he turns her down, and the movie starts to turn. From the previews, Swimfan looked like a bad movie, an "Attraction" set in high school suburbia with Michael Douglas' role as a swim fanatic instead of a businessman. While the last third of the picture veers off heavily into the land of the un-yielding female revenge cliche, the first two-thirds of the film are actually a pretty provocative, tight character study with issues of infidelity and confidence. Christensen, who made a startling breakout role as a judge's intoxicated daughter in 2000's Traffic, plays it rather straight and sensual, which gives the film a boost, until her over-the-top climax, and shows that, in a B-movie sort of showcase, she can hold her own. Fatal Attraction for Teens
posted on 25 Apr 2009'Swimfan' is not original, but it shouldn't have to be. How many 'original' movies get made now a days anyway. Everything has ripped at least some element from another film. All the original ideas have been used up. That said, even though this film ripped on 'Fatal Attraction' it still could have risen above the ashes of its destined failure to produce a quality thrill ride. The only, and I mean only, fault here is the weak script...and that's a really big fault. Erika Christensen and even Jesse Bradford step into the Glen Close and Michael Douglas roles nicely, Erika showing that her brilliant turn in 'Traffic' wasn't an accident, but it's the plot-hole ridden script that makes this little more than pop-corn fluff. It's a decent film, and it has its replay value. It's one of those, "what do you wanna watch?"..."I don't know you pick something", kinda feels to it. No one will suggest this film because it was outstanding, but when there's nothing to do and you want to kill time it serves the purpose. Too bad, cuz it could have been better.
Worth seeing just for Jesse in speedos!
posted on 23 Apr 2009I know everyone seems to hate this movie, but I LOVED it it!It made ME jump, and hey, there's always Jesse in speedos! Swimfan goes for about 90 minutes, but I AND the 3 friends I went with left the cinema feeling as though only half an hour had past.Need I mention Jesse Bradford in speedos again? (didn't think so!)
Silly and derivative stuff that will hardly please even the teen target audience
posted on 21 Apr 2009Despite a bit of drugs problems in his past, Ben Cronin is now the best swimmer in his high school and has nothing but good things in his future. He is popular, he has a girlfriend, a nice SUV and the top universities are watching him. When he meets new student Madison he thinks nothing of it even thought his friends are all planning to "bang" her the first chance they get something that seems unlikely given the affection Madison seems to have for Ben. Things come to a head in a late night fling in a pool that Ben doesn't plan to go any further; Madison however has other ideas.Starting with the setup that you expect and going just where you know it will, this teenage copy of Fatal Attraction is derivative at every turn and just gets silly as it pushes for enough action to appeal to a jaded youth audience. The plot is obvious and all through it you do get the feeling that it is just going through the motions and relying on the extremes to hook the audience rather than building genuine tension or characters instead; it is a bit insulting to the teen audience that this is what is considered suitable for them, but I guess they don't have to support it with their money. The plot twists get sillier and sillier the longer the film goes on and eventually I just tired on it it just felt like the writers knew they had to keep upping the ante in place of anything better. This can be seen in the total lack of motivation or depth to Madison this is not a hurt Glen Close, Madison just steps from flirting to bunny boiler in the space of thirty seconds.Without any character to speak of, Christensen just hams it up and overplays every part of Madison; there is not a real person in her performance and she doesn't try to find one. Bradford is a typically bland teen star good looking and able to talk and run but not really suited to more than that. He fits the material well enough but he is nothing special and has a fine career of TV movies and such ahead of him. Support is roundly average and even Dan Hedaya is clearly struggling to muster the energy to deliver his lines in his short scenes.Overall a very average film that is vastly inferior to Fatal Attraction and really does the absolute minimum to appeal to the undemanding teen audience. The longer it goes on the sillier it gets and most people will have tired of it long before then. Not really worth checking out, and if you are target audience you should prove them wrong by finding something better to do.

I've seen plenty of suspense films, and have labeled many as 'cliche', and I don't know why, but...
posted on 31 Aug 2009This one actually worked for me! I guess it felt original enough since I haven't seen Fatal Attraction or the like. All the camera movements gave that chilling atmosphere. They had Madison do all the right things to get you going. I was totally convinced that this psychotic, obsessive girl was all that.*SPOILERS* I remember the scene at the parking lot with Christopher posing as Jake Donnelly and they surprise "bust" with the camcorder seemed intense enough that you felt you were off the hook. NO WAY! She kills the cops who arrested her (OK, that she managed to steal one of their guns is far fetched. Like that happens all the time with even tougher arrestees.), knocks out Ben's mom before getting him, then takes Amy to the pool and tries to drown her. It was all done very well. A definite 8/10 stars in my book.
