Never ceases to amaze me
posted on 25 Aug 2009This is one of those fairly rare cases where the sequel surpasses the original. In fact, T2 surpasses a lot of films, old and new. It was made around 7 years after the first outing, and is clearly operating on a much larger budget than the original. It has a blockbuster feel to it, as to the late night, B-movie theme of the first one, which still became a cult film despite its low budget. The special effects are amazing, even by todays standards, but unlike other Hollywood blockbusters, it has story, emotion and depth to accompany the explosions, chases and CGI. It has been 16 odd years now since it was made, and despite afew choice haircuts and references to old school gaming systems, it feels as if it hasn't aged a day.Linda Hamilton returns as Sarah Connor, but unlike her character in the first one, she is now a lean, mean ass kicking warrior woman. Arnie returns as the T101 Terminator, only this time he is playing a bodyguard sent by the rebel side, to protect a young John Connor (Eddie Furlong) the future leader of the resistance. Those who have seen the film (almosy everyone) will know just how much protection John Connor needs, as the machines send back the dreaded T1000 (Robert Patrick), a being formed of liquid metal, that can manipulate his body into almost anything at the drop of a hat, queue amazing special effects.Sarah, John and the T101 unite soon enough and start a quest to try and prevent the rise of Cyberdine Systems, who are the company responsible for creating a special chip in the near future. This chip will give machines the ability to think for themselves, which in turn will have a devastating, and I mean DEVASTATING effect on the general population. They do this specifically by locating a computer developer named Miles Dyson, who is the lead scientist in the project. All the while, the T1000 is following their moves. He is more advanced than the T101, more ruthless and will not stop until his mission is complete. This film is literally great scene after great scene. There is the brilliant storm drain chases scene, Sarah's escape from the mental institution, T101 with the chain-gun, the battles between T1000 and his target's bodyguard, with the last half hour or so being pure excitement. The character development is brilliant as well, seeing Sarah's bond with her endangered son John, John's father-son bond with the increasingly human 'machine', and Robert Patrick playing the emotionless T1000 with cold eyed precision. This is a film which sweeps you up and pulls you into whats happening. It has laughs and humour to ease the tension, classic lines, great cinematography, top notch action sequences and scenes that will stay with you long after watching. If you haven't seen this, you truly should. It is unmissable.
One word: cool. "T2" is one of the coolest movies ever.
posted on 22 Aug 2009For most of my life I've been struggling with the same eternal question: is "Terminator 2: Judgment day" better than the original classic? Why make it any harder? It's better, period. I love the original movie because Arnold hasn't played the bad character before or after it and as we all remember back in 1984 he truly was evil in "The Terminator".Of course he's been wasting people like a one man world war or a some kind of a huge lethal plague but he's always been the big hero. When it was finally time to make a sequel Arnie was already so tame that the man refused to be the bad cyborg. But who cares, because he's far from being "too nice". On the contrary he's a real mean bad ass in "T2" as well, even though clearly fighting for the good side.In "Terminator 2: Judgment day" Arnold Schwarzenegger is for once in his career really, utterly one hundred per cent cool. Usually he just looks like the missing link between man and ape dressed in a commando suit which I personally don't find the coolest thing around. But is it just a coincidence that of all the clothes the terminator could wear he just accidently happens to choose the biker outfit: black leather jacket, boots, sunglasses...! He truly was bad to the bone, no doubt about that. It's safe to say more than anything else, "Terminator 2: Judgment day" is an ode to absolute coolness. I mean really, this is one of the coolest films ever made. Let's not forget Robert Patrick who is definitely in the most memorable movie role of his life playing T-1000. Actually the whole movie is a competition between the two actors about who's the coolest. What Patrick does with his finger in the end when Sarah Connor tries to shoot him, I just love that scene! If that's not cool, I don't know what is!I'm looking forward to see "Terminator 3" but in the same time I'm ready to be disappointed because I expect it can never be as good as the first two. Of course more than anything I hope I'm wrong. First of all, is it just me who feels that Schwarzenegger is starting out to be a bit too old for this part? The man turns 56 this summer, why would someone want to built a cyborg with wrinkles? And what's the point of making a terminator movie without Jimmy Cameron or Linda Hamilton in the first place? The whole terminator-idea is Cameron's own baby and no one should steal it from him. All the same, they could make the film without Arnie. He turned from bad to good so Robert Partick could play the good cyborg in T3 and the role of the evil one could go to...well, Vin Diesel or anybody...Leo DiCaprio? Who cares, if they are going to make a sequel that stinks they should really make it stink then. But it's too early to say anything, I'll just have to wait and hope for the best and fear for the worst. Anyway, nothing can take away the fact that "Terminator 2: Judgment day" is one of the best action movies in the cinema history filled with classic lines, spectacular action, magnificent special effects, fantastic story full of excitement, surprises and thrills. Best of all, Arnold might be a little softer but the film is still extremely violent and dark as hell. Remarkable, startling first rate movie experience that will live on forever. 10 out of 10.
Eye candy in every way
posted on 19 Aug 2009The Silence Of The Lambs was not the only masterpiece of 1991! There was also another movie called Terminator 2. Direct sequel to 1984´s hit movie The Terminator. 7 years after the original, film technology was not the same. The director used the latest FX in film industry to show his vision. And it was surly great. Breathtaking effects & action scenes who updated the genre to the much higher levels. The movie gives you the two coolest robots in movie history (along side with Bishop in Aliens). Also the second strongest action female star (after Ripley in Aliens) of all time.
Everything from technical, directing, casting, music, atmosphere to the screenplay is great. This is the second time that James Cameron doing a sequel that is actually better than the original (he made also Aliens). I hope that True Lies 2(2002) is going to be even funnier & better than the original. You have to learn from history that you can trust James Cameron. He is one of my greatest inspirations. I have seen all his movies several times (not the first one: Pirhana II from 1981). I could not find it on IMDB witch is bizarre.
Here is the magical career of James Cameron in short: sensational hit low budget movie of 1984: The Terminator. The dynamic & adrenalin kick movie of 1986: Aliens. The very special one of 1989 & the godfather of CGI movies: The Abyss. The unbelievable eye candy of 1991 & another CGI godfather: Terminator 2. The gigantic action-comedy of 1994: True Lies. And the most brilliant epic magic movie making of all time who was the unsinkable movie of 1997-1998 in Cinemas: Titanic. What a career!! T 2 is the reason that Steven Spielberg left go-motion for CGI in Jurassic Park (1993). T 2 is also the reason that George Lucas decided to do Episode I (1999) because now the technology was right for his vision. Forget Terminator 3 without James Cameron. T 2 IS the one you should remember. Four time Oscar winning Terminator 2 IS simply THE greatest, smartest, coolest & most brilliant action movie in the universe!!!! (10/10).
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
posted on 16 Aug 2009A very rare instance where the sequel is just as good as the original. Writer-director James Cameron pulled out all the stops for this ambitious sequel (with a much higher budget than the original, the highest ever for a movie at the time), which contains spectacular action sequences, a better, if not as effectively simple storyline, and classic, Oscar-winning special effects (who can forget the "liquid metal" scenes?). It's seven years after the events of the first movie, and John Connor, the future savior of the world, is a 12-year-old who lives with a foster family and has his mother locked up in an institute. A new-and-improved terminator then comes from the future to kill the boy and another one, who looks like the one whose mission it was to kill his mother, comes to protect him. ***1/2
An awesome mile-a-minute achievement in modern film-making
posted on 13 Aug 2009As amazing as it seems, this is the first time I've watched a film I've seen many times before with my reviewing purposes in place. There can be few modern movie-goers who have not seen "Terminator 2: Judgement Day", such is the reputation and hype behind the picture. The big-budget follow-up to Governor Schwarzenegger's most famous role and probably the best in the trilogy, this film's special effects have just slightly lost their ability to make jaws hit floors. Not that it make a huge difference anyway, such is the force "Terminator 2" hits you with.Usually, I begin here with my plot summary but let me just say that if you haven't watched the first film then you'll be at a disadvantage when it comes to watching this. To recap, the future is not a pleasant place. Mankind has all but wiped itself out and machines are conspiring to finish the job but are thwarted by the human resistance led by John Conner. The first film saw Arnie go back in time and attempt to kill John's mother Sarah Conner (Linda Hamilton) before John is born but this time, he's sent back to protect John as a child (and played by Edward Furlong). John's would-be assassin, though, is another machine and more advanced than The Governor. He's a liquid metal shapeshifter (Robert Patrick) and he'll stop at nothing to kill John or anyone who gets in his way. "Short Circuit" this ain't.This film is a rare event - a moment in movie history where everything comes together perfectly and everyone is on top form. Schwarzenegger, Hamilton, Patrick and Furlong have never been better than they are here and director James Cameron displays a level of enthusiasm not often seen for the film's story - unsurprising as he started the ball rolling with the first film. You just sense that there were so many ideas left out because there wasn't room for all of it! Once the action begins, there is precious little time to get your breath back and even so long after release, the film's stunt-work and gun battles still stand the test of time. Which is more than can be said for the setting - seeing John in his "Public Enemy" T-shirt and the cringeworthy "Hasta la vista, baby" line (since passed into modern culture) is the most prominent reminder that this film is almost fifteen years old but trust me, it still looks bloody good today. There is very little to criticise "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" for, even if it failed to prevent the release of the lacklustre "Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines" a few years back. The one complaint I could have is the reduction in the "on-screen death" department but I've had a really bad day and I needed some carnage. What cannot be denied is that this is a film of the very highest quality and has only recently been eclipsed as one of the best action films of all time by the all-conquering "The Matrix". I have no hesitation in awarding this film a maximum score and neither do thousands of other IMDb users. If that and the sheer amount of good publicity don't persuade you of this film's merits then you should be shot, quite frankly. Watch it and try not to have nightmare about stainless steel skulls with red eyes...
The Metal collectible case was replaced!
posted on 07 Aug 2009This is incredible! One of the reasons why i bought this collectors edition was to collect the Metal collectible sculpture embossed package. When I saw what i received, I noticed that the Metal collectors box was replaced with a metal colored cardboard. This is an outrage, I really wanted that metal cover. The descriptions of this dvd said that it contained a metal package, not that it was replaced. Oh well, aside from that, it's one of the best collectors edition when compared to the previous collectors version.
Let's see how much of L.A. we can trash in 2 and1/2 hours :)
posted on 29 Jul 2009TERMINATOR 2 grossed 400 million dollars for a reason.....it was a eye popping action spectacular, featuring a woman as the action hero along side Schwarzennegger. The film, some would say is different than it's predecessor..a spectacle for action fans, a RAMBO fanatics SPARTACUS or CLEOPATRA. Terminator 2 focuses on the illegitimate son of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese in the first film. One thing I did not like was the A TEAMISH violence by the T 800 at places like the Cyberdine building. However, I understand the possible motive. When I saw this movie I was blown away by the freight train/panzer column through a pastry shop pace at which it was set. i had never seen such a fast paced action movie in my life before. The film pleases the audience goers, however I was drawn to the first films more human tale of the classic 'man out of time" love story. This plot point is replaced by the subplot which involves Sarah Connor fighting for the acceptance of her son and her sanity after the events of the first film. The effects are visually arresting and many have yet to be topped, including many dangerous helicopter sequences. On a scale of greatness this is APOCALYPSE NOW for action and science fiction action fans. Enjoy.
Just cut to the chase!
posted on 29 Jul 2009Wow, what can I say. The comedy of a naked terminator in the bar again. The weasely phych was quite a wonderful return performance. A nice little tidbit with the Blue semi and the original terminator. Can anyone say T2 was planned before T1 methinks! But if you are watching this movie, I suggest, nay, I dare you to try to find a better chase scene in any other movie. Maybe the chase scene in "Bullet" is better, but that is debatable. As far as pure mayhem and destruction of property goes I do not think there is any better. Thats why I say, just fast forward to the chase scene!
My thoughts.
posted on 29 Jul 2009When I was young and I first saw this film, I absolutely loved it. But then again I was easily impressed by anything that was science fiction. After all, another favourite film of mine at around about the same time was Lawnmower Man, and when I recently watched that again I wasn't very impressed. (Why couldn't that guy just close his eyes?)I watched Terminator 2 with pretty much the same expectations, but found that the movie was both better, and not as good as I remembered it. For someone else who is a first time viewer of the Terminator franchise, this movie would seem great, but others may notice that it is a general revamp of the themes (and ideas) of the first Terminator in 1984.I watched it and was given the impression that the film was made largely for special effects rather than storyline. The storyline was good, especially with a Terminator playing a central role, giving its points of views and behaviour towards a human world. My problem is that it seemed to have many of the story components of the first film. For example...1. The Terminator wears 'tough guy' clothing - however a Terminator wearing a priests uniform, or a bright green jumpsuit with sandals would look stupid.2. Mimickry of the main characters parents - This of course is what the T-1000 was built for, but mimicking Johns foster parents was just too close to the mimicking of Sarah's mother.3. The tanker chase - Very obvious parralel.4. Terminators running a rampage in a police station/criminal hospital.5. The bike crash/helicopter crash leading on to the tanker chase. All this gave me the impression that James Cameron was using Terminator 2 as a means to do what he wished he could have done in Terminator 1 if he had a much bigger production budget. I don't think he needed to do this, as Terminator 1 stands on its own two feet very well, especially for such a small budget.Of course, there are many Terminator fanatics out there who would fervently disagree with everything I say. That is the problem when you give criticism to a cult film. You can attract some whackos, who don't seem to realise that it IS just a film, no matter how much they enjoyed it. There is nothing wrong with being a big fan of a movie, even to the point of obsession, but defending it like it is a religion is not healthy.I will say what I liked about it, however. There were parts in it which were exceptional, especially with the paradox regarding technology from the future being used as a template for SkyNet - the creator the the technology in the future. I loved Sarah Connors dream sequence, which was very disturbing. And verbal exchanges and behaviour of a (mildly) benevolent terminator - I loved that. It's pedanticly malevolent attitude towards the value of human life, and its final appreciation for it by committing suicide (self-termination) was excellent. Arnold Schwarzennegger really did give one of his best performances in his movie career. And his dialogue was very well thought out, giving authenticity to his robotic mind.I feel that this film could have done more. It could have had a better plot. Apparently, Cameron was going to have an elaborate beginning sequence set in the future, with the actual raid on SkyNet time-displacement facilities by John Connor, the transportation through time of Kyle Reese and the discovery of a second terminator being sent through time. He should have filmed this - This would have helped set apart the first film from the second. It certainly would have given the die hard fans a lot to cheer about, including myself.I can't get used to the change in Sarah Connors character and behaviour. Although she was obviously affected mentally from the first attack in T1, at the end of the film she seemed calm and resolute. In the second she was barely sane, and foaming at the mouth half the time. This was novel at first to see such a change, but it did wear a bit thin. I don't think Linda Hamilton is suited for Tough-Girl roles, like, say Sigourney Weaver. She should have played the quiet intelligent type... Yes tough, but not so bezerk and wild eyed. This Terminator 3 business is, sadly, more than likely going to be a big joke. Johnathan Mostow is a good director, so there is hope there, but the scriptwriters have written some real garbage in the past. If you don't believe me, hire 'The Net' and watch for the microwave scene. If it's going to be as bad as I think it will, what it will do is cheapen the first two movies. It will probably do well in the first week or two but (like Jurassic Park 3), fall in popularity as word spreads that the movie is just popular science fiction trash. What a shame... I have my doubts about T4 - unless Roger Corman buys the rights to it when they are selling at bargain basement prices. Can I quantise how much I enjoyed T2???7.8 out of 10 (9.3 out of 10 for T1)Worth the hire - maybe even to own.
The greatest movie of all time.
posted on 29 Jul 2009You cannot find out a better action movie than T2. It brings you excitement, emotion, and a little regret. The first time I watched I was just five. Every character is so perfect. Especially, Arnie and Robert fit their roles perfectly. The Terminator is still a machine. But he is a machinery hero who knows the life's value. T - 1000 is cold with his mission. The stunts are so great that you cannot remove your eyes from the screen. I remember I watched it when the movie was published on VHS tape. Now you can watch it on DVD or Blue-ray disc. You will be never bored with it though you watch it many, many times. You may suspect what I say. But, after enjoying it by yourself you see what I tell you is true.
Truly one of Cameron's Best
posted on 26 Jul 2009I write this comment after watching T3 : Rise of the Machines for the 4th time and it just makes me think that Cameron's movie was not just great, it was phenomenal in every aspect.Discount Arnold's wooden (yet perfect for the part) acting and some minor goof ups with the dates (in the present and the future), you have a movie that not only makes you stay and watch for 2 hours, it also makes you think about war and all its fallouts. The very strong woman character in all of Cameron's movies, Linda Hamilton, in this case is a fine example of how a great director can draw some really good performances from mediocre actors. The sound and the SFX in the movie are far too ahead of their times and are comparable to some on the movies I see today. All in all, an enjoyable film that I promise you will not regret seeing.9 stars out of 10
Simply the most impressive DVD I've seen yet!
posted on 20 Jul 2009A great action movie comes to life on dvd in your own living room. The sound is incredible and the video just as awesome and lifelike. The storyline is better than T-1 as are the special effects and action sequences. Well worth it!!
EVERY ARNOLD FAN SHOULD OWN THIS!
posted on 17 Jul 2009I cannot think of high enough praise for this ultimate edition dvd of TERMINATOR 2-JUDGMENT DAY! Comes with extras that will keep you busy for hours, and the picture and sound quality will amaze! All you terminator fans, get this or "GET OUT" (chuckle)
This is the ultimate showdown
posted on 17 Jul 2009Terminator 2 probably showcases the best good guy - bad guy duel ever. The score to this movie really adds so such feeling and you can really get into it. It really makes the movie something special, just like The Shawshank Redemption or Speed. Robert Patrick makes an excellent portrayal of a shape shifting cyborg called T-1000. His facial expression during the entire movie makes him all intimidation. The plot flows methodically and there aren't any plot holes in the entire thing. Perfect ending to a perfect movie, I just hope 3 is as good.
James Cameron's masterpiece!
posted on 14 Jul 2009Terminator 2 is not only a mind blowing movie with spectacular special effects and unbeleivable action, but cultural phenomenon akin to capturing lightening in a bottle.Never will such a perfect action/sci fi movie ever be made in the history of filmdom. The casting of Arnold is perfect beyond belief. He was born only to play the role of The Terminator. His minimal dialogue enhances the roles mechanical robotic qualities.James Cameron is certainly a dedicated filmaker who cares about his work and the expectations of the audience. The only other film that comes close to T2 is Aliens, also directed by Cameron. His use of computer effects to augment and supplment the storyline is rarely ever used in todays overblown blockbusters. In fact the special effects in T2 are so good that today's effects PALE in comparison.Robert Patrick is perfect as the predatory T-1000, and will be forever be remebered as the guy who gave Arnold a run for his money, as he definately attempts to steal the movie in some scenes.I am appalled that a T3 has been made without James Cameron. T3 may be a decent action flick, but it looks embarrasingly juvenille from the trailers and TV spots. Whats with all the sunlight??? Arnold even stated a few years ago he would not do T3 without Cameron. After Arnolds diasasters such as End of Days (not bad flick) he needed a hit and the only way was to bring the Terminator out of retirement, with or without Cameron. Thats Loyalty for you.T2 is the best action movie ever made, and if you have not seen it yet, you have probably seen paradies, ripoffs, and copies of the movie. But watching the original will give an appreciation as to how this movie shaped future action movies, as it is groundbreaking.I wished James Cameron had made T3, but I doubt he could have topped the perfection of T2, and that may be one of the reasons he decided to opt out of T3.
Total recall of excellence from it's previous
posted on 14 Jul 2009I remember seeing the first Terminator, and it was very good. Though, this one sparked many areas that the first one did not. This movie had action, and suspense, and acting, and(of course) graphics that out-did the first one. I may be talking into my generation, but it's an opinion that I hold, and one that I will keep. Finally, Arnold was able to play the good guy, and he was still his old self. The grim faced get-outta-way terminator that we all loved from the first one. Linda Hamilton also improved, showing she can defend herself this time instead of always running. To me, it's hard to decifer that a mental institution can turn you into a gun handling combat marine when you were once a soft hearted little angel that just wanted to be hugged. But, that's what it was and it was fine with me. I loved every moment of this action flick. The soundtrack was above average, but the graphics are definitly the highlight of this film. Nothing looked unreal, like it did in the first Terminator. The bad guy was totally awesome. He was basically indestructable in which made the movie actually pretty scary at times. Horror and action made a nice blend for this movie. Terminator 2: Judgement Day was definitely "Bad to the bone" and earned my 10/10 rating. My one complaint was the fight scene between the two terminators, kinda lame.
The Sci-Fi genre has meet its zenith
posted on 08 Jul 2009Terminator 2, I know few people who have not seen this masterpiece. This movie is directed by James Cameron and I think many would agree that Terminator 2 is one of his best films. The acting is pretty good for an action flick. Robert Patrick does a convincing job as the cynical T-1000. The rest is of the cast is ok. Computer graphics excel in this movie. I still can't believe how they did this in 1991, and the graphics are still comparable current films. Action is great and there's a lot of it. But there is also a great story. If you see one sci-fi film this decade...See Terminator 2
Follow me if you want to live...
posted on 08 Jul 2009There is nothing like this movie. It's an action film that isn't boring; a suspense film where you don't expect one; sci-fi without the silliness.Linda Hamilton comes back ripped. All the softness is gone and she is totally convincing (and disturbing) as the ragged-edge neo-terrorist preparing for the apocalypse. Schwartzenegger is at his best - few lines, none of the smirking - as a robotic, menacing presence. Medium-sized Robert Patrick is perhaps even more menacing, buoyed by state-of-art effects. Joe Morton is the movie's human soul.

THE BEST DVD EVER!
posted on 25 Aug 2009You can just tell this thing is going to rock by the metal case, the 32 page booklet, and the rest of the packaging, but then you open it up and realize it's a masterpiece. This DVD exemplifies what DVD should be! Check out the interactive menus and you'll be amazed. The THX trailer is astonishing. The amount of footage they packed on the 2 DVDs (technically called side 1 and 2)will shock you. And then the movie. I would watch the uncut version last to really appreciate the value of the deleted scenes. Keep the booklet handy to point out the added scenes. This is not some crappy 2 minutes of footage, it's over 20 (I think). For the most part these are significant scenes. ESPECIALLY the part where Sarah wants to crush the Terminator's CPU. Previously, this extra stuff was only available on the 2 tape VHS set, which was hard to wade through and change tapes over. Maybe it was on a LaserDisc, but again I don't know that. If you don't own a player or DVD-ROM, wait no further. The Star Wars Trilogy won't be out for a long, long time and this edition of T2: Judgement Day is a must have....
