The Machines Will Rise

PLOT SUMMARY

More than 10 years after 'Terminator 2', John Connor now exists only as a drifter - living 'off the grid', so no more Terminators from the future can hunt him down. Unfortunately, SkyNet does send another one back - and this one is called the T-X, even more powerful & advanced than the dreaded T-1000. However, another CSM-101 Terminator is also sent back to protect John against the T-X. Now, Skynet is patiently assuming control of civilian computer systems, under the guise of a computer virus. John has also met his future wife, Kate Brewster, whose father - a U.S. Air Force General - is in charge of the military computer systems & is leery of up linking SkyNet. However, when the SkyNet virus infects the U.S military computers & leaves the country open to attack, the machines begin their horrific takeover. Soon a nuclear war will result - and the war against the machines will begin. Can the outdated CSM-101 Terminator eliminate the highly advanced T-X - or will a darker future await man following the nuclear attack?

Not the 'feel' I expected.

posted on 29 Aug 2009

This movie was much more enjoyable than I had expected it to be. Though I was really hyped up and ready, I knew it could be awefull. And it wasn't - not aweful-, but I didn't get the feel I had expected to get.It wasn't the script or the story or the action... for me, it was the score. That background music that you hear playing was different (oddly different) than the other two. Kristina Loken did a great job as the TX, though a bit robotic in her actions, she had the look and glare that said she had what it took to be as "unstoppable" as Arnold and Robert were in the first two... but not as creepy. I know it may sound odd, but I blaim her lack of creepyness on the score. I was expecting to hear the violin screams and machine roars as in T2 which made the T-1000 absolutley desturbing for me. When I did her the T-1000's music in the background (which was only about 4 times lasting 3 seconds) I was like "OKAY!!! Here we go!"... Then it was gone. Oh well. I thought I might talk about that in this review.

Solid Arnold Action Flick

I went into this movie with a very low expectation. After so many bad movies this summer I was sure they were going to ruin Terminator as well. That however did not occur. The filmmakers obviously knew that they were not up to the task of coming up with a coherent story line so they just decided to have two hours of non-stop violence. Add to the mix some outstanding one-liners and very twisted time humor and you end up with a movie that was refreshingly good. If you are looking for a film that will get you emotionally involved as you watch the characters struggle with themselves to grow...this is the wrong film. If on the other hand you just really want to see a bunch of stuff get blown up then this movie is right for you. 8/10

Rise of the dollar

When compared to the first and second Terminator movies, T3 is probably average at best. The special effects were top notch but the movie seemed forced. Whereas the first and second at times grew deep and philosophical (or as much as this storyline would allow), T3 had none of that. It was just action scenes mixed in with ho-hum dialogue to explain what was about to happen next.Terminator 2 technically was a sequel, but it didn't *feel* like a sequel. T2 could have stood on its own.Terminator 3, on the other hand, pretty much assumes that the viewer is familiar with the storyline. Old characters (just one really) are shamelessly plugged in for quick appearances that didn't further the storyline one bit. New characters have been added and their histories faked to appear as if they've always been a part of the Terminator world. The movie watched as if it was the last season of some long running television series overdue for retirement. On the plus side, T3 has some strengths. As mentioned earlier, the special effects were excellent. Also, the writers gave the Terminator some hilarious moments. This is a short movie and the action moves briskly. Watch it if you're a fan of the series or if you're into awesome action scenes, but don't expect it to be very deep. 6 out of 10.

Disappointing and predictable.

Memo to director: an extremely long car chase with lots of destruction does not a movie make if the rest of it falls so flat. I was actually bored during the car chase, feeling as if they'd run out of plot and so figured they'd drag it on for as long as they could. On the plus side, Nick Stahl was a much better replacement for Edward Furlong than I expected. Clare Danes is always good. Ms. Loken - nothing special. Bring back Robert Patrick! And where, oh where was the soundtrack. I can't think of T2 without hearing Guns'n'Roses screaming through my head. There was no anthem to this one to kick it into gear. All in all, there was very little that was new here. For the most part it copied T2 but couldn't match it.

Not as good as it could have been.

I must admit, T3 is a fairly entertaining film. But its not even half as memorable as T2 and T1. I pretty much expected this. There are very few lengendry directors and James Cameron is one of them. And so i always knew that no matter how hard they try, T3 will never be what it would have been if James Cameron had made it.The story is pretty much the same as t2 if not for the ending. Arnie is back and does his job perfectly. Nick Stahl and Claire Danes work well together. Kristanna Loken is a very sexy women but just not scary enough. Robert Patrick's T-1000 is the scariest terminator of all time and all others will only be derivatives of his performance.T3 is a neat effort but it still is just an 'effort' at re-creating James Cameron's magic.

T3 vs. T1 & 2

posted on 23 Aug 2009

I'll make this short. Very short.T1 - only got one thing to say: goooooooooooooooooooddammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn! T2 - Even better than T1 - story line kept - not many f... ups here T3 - What can I say ?? This is rubbish. I don't consider this to be the closure, but more a standout blockbuster movie. You don't even have to have watched the others to get it.So dear film companies.. CEO's ; Dear Board.. do it again, but get James on it this time, will you ?Ah well.. there's some time I'll never get back.

Extremely disappointing

They should have left well enough alone. The only thing that saved this movie was the ending, otherwise it is a complete waste of time. Even the two or three humorous lines by Arnie can't make up for the poor plot, poor writing, and excessive special effects. This was definitely made for young men, the T-X sucked, she wasn't menacing, interesting, or threatening, unlike the T-1000 in T2. But she had big boobs. Whoopie. The acting of the two main human characters was mediocre at best. I'm not sure what the writers and director were thinking making John so slow witted and insipid, it did nothing but irritate and annoy.I bought this sight-unseen to have the complete series, and I'm sorry I wasted my money. Like the Highlander and Alien movies, it's a shame when Hollywood doesn't recognize it's time to STOP MAKING SEQUELS!

Awesome

I can't believe the amount of criticism heaped on this movie. Sure, I went along to the cinema expecting the worst, as most sequel of sequels tend to disappoint. However, the movie was anything but disappointing. From start to finish the movie is non stop action. What more do you want from Arnie? Deep theological musings? Do me a favor! It was also refreshing not having to listen to Connor's mother mumble on and on throughout which I found tedious in T2. 10 out of 10.

I could've waited longer to see this

When you watch T1 then T2 you "hope" no one will attempt to make another sequel unless they can match 1 and 2. Unfortunately T3 does not meet this line, in many areas. 1st - there's too many jokes for Terminator where it should have been left out. 2nd - Not being sexist but a female Terminator having a fight with the Terminator doesn't go well she should have been a support character or something and we could have seen some excellent fight scenes. Although her character was made to be "tougher" than the Terminator it still makes you laugh. I see this as a serious movie not one where you crack some jokes - not at least at the Terminator's expense. On a positive note this may set up a base for T4 and hopefully someone may bring it back to level we know it as.......The movie is enjoyable but for me, not as 1 and 2.

Michael Biehn (Kyle Reece) must be in Terminator 4 or it will FAIL!

Personally I wasn't too pleased with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines even though the movie unexpectedly ended the way I had hoped for. The feeling I was given during Terminator 1 and 2 was completely gone by the third. I blame this mainly on the music and weak characters. I see the first two movies as a puzzle. All the pieces seemed to fit together because James Cameron took the movies to heart and made sure everything was perfect. In the third movie it seemed like the movie was filled with many holes. The theme was completely lost, certain elements which I had hoped to see (the familiar picture of Sarah Conner from the previous movies, how in the world Cyberdyne Systems was able to rebuild itself and continue research) never showed.Agree with me or not, I believe that Arnold shouldn't have been in this movie. He was no longer necessary for the movie. Having another Terminator going back through time even though it was getting old with all these Terminator's going through time just doesn't work in my opinion. T3 should have been focused on the character John Conner more and on the birth of Skynet as it unleashed its wrath upon the world. I would have continued with the "Empire Strikes Back" theme but would have put more emphasis on it. I would have shown more T-80's (Those Terminator's from the T2-3D show at Universal Studio's.)Now for the point of me posting this topic. I feel the 4th and final movie should include Kyle Reece. His importance in playing the important role of the soldier going back in time to protect the past Sarah Conner is all too important. Plus he's one of my favorite characters! With Arnold supposedly coming back for the 4th, I think thats lame! >.<

As good as T2?

This film had a lot to live up to, but thankfully it far exceeded my expectations. Rather than sully the reputation of the franchise, this film builds on it and gives, I think, the most human film of the series. The action is still there by the bucketload, but it never falls into the Matrix Revoloutions trap of set peice after set piece doldrum. It's not quite as epic as T2, and not as taut as the original, but this film's ending kicks the sh*t out of both them. Roll on T4!

Awful - a has-been hacking a ham-fisted money fest

An appalling production with dreary direction and really ham-fisted acting. Arnies' looking and sounding very past it - way past retirement. The whole thing was just awful. It should not have happened. its has spoilt the previous two films.

I knew this film would be hard to follow in the footsteps of 2 prior outings, but I had hopes that it could re-kindle the awe I had as a child when seeing T2. This film had nothing worthy of it. The acting was rather bland and uninspiring, the dialogue lacked punch and the hunour was quite corny (even though I laughed a few times). This film lacks the drive and dark edge of the prior two films. In fact it didn't seem to add or build up to anything significant at all. It seemed like a re-work on T2. To excuse the plot holes and actors that did not reprise their roles we were given new information, which changes the way you view T2 from now on.The inability to connect with the characters makes it less appealing aswell. They were too jokey with one another which lowered the suspense of the dramatic moments. The part where John Conor puts a gun to his head and threatens to pull the trigger made me cringe and laugh at the same time.An unnecessary addition to the series. 4/10

The Terminator is back and better than ever

I thought that it would be very hard to follow on from T2 , but somehow they managed it and I think that although u can guess whats gonna happen in a couple of the scenes, the plot is still cleverly engineered in that it offers superb action scenes that are enjoyable and there is a nice level of tension torwards the end when u see the machines beginning to rise, I particularly liked one scene where there is a giant machine rolling down a hallway and Arnold suddenly bursts through the ceiling, rips it head almost completely off and uses it's gun's to blast at another machine just yards away, I would recommend this to any Terminator fans as it is a powerful chapter in a thrilling saga

good flick, better than I expected

I was a big fan of T1 and even a bigger fan of T2. I have to admit, I expected nothing from T3 at all; I was afraid of them ruining it.After all was said and done, it was way better than I expected. Although it had a few technical problems here and there, over all it was a good movie with a non-hollywood ending. Give it a try!

well done

This film was awesome. I enjoyed the story, character development, action, and I hope we see a T4 very soon. I went into the movie with high hopes, and I was very satisfied with what I saw. I cannot think of anything negative to say about T3!

it shud have died with jim cameron

just as i always suspected. Rise of the Machines should never have been made. ok fair enough, the studio has made a profit, so for them and for arnie ($30 million dollars in his pocket and respect to him) and it was in fairness a fairly decent film. but in context with the earlier films The Terminator and Judgement Day, it doesnt even compare.James Cameron wrote Judgement day clearly to have a closed ending, so no sequels could infact be made, and therefore as such we have an immediate hole in the T3 plot. this however i can just about abide. But the constant self parody of arnie's T-800 character erased all the intensity and seriousness for which he was originally created. he no longer is the unstobbable murderous cyborg, but instead a comic figure which audiences laughed at consistently. the for a start it relinquishes any potential intesity the film may have had.also the first two terminator films had schwarzeneggers character as still character which would kill at the slightest opportunity, again this was gone in favour of a more younger audience pleasing character. all well and good, but in context with the this world created by James cameron it does not fit.i could go on forever about holes in the plot and nitpick consistently but i know a lot of ppl have yet to see this. and most probably you will enjoy it. but serious observers of the first two who were enthralled by their brilliance will be disappointed by such a lesser film

Let's send a robot back in time to prevent them from making this movie

There is absolutely nothing interesting in this movie. It is a lazily assembled amalgam of plot points from T2 and lines from The Terminator. It's as though they were too lazy to think up anything interesting and instead defaulted to trying to lamely remind you of bits you liked from the first two.Yeah, there's lots of destruction in this one, but who cares? The filmmakers completely fail to create any suspense. There's no character development, there's no plot, so there's nothing to invite the audience into giving a crap about any of the "characters". Claire Danes's character shows some promise at the beginning of the film, but her character quickly becomes a simp. Even Arnold gives lame line deliveries, as though he learned his lines right before they rolled camera. Not the good kind of Arnold lame that worked so perfectly in the first two movies, it's just authentically poor***possible mild spoiler ***The police psychologist who talks to Claire Danes in the graveyard makes reference to having witnessed the Terminator assault on the police station in the original movie. But in that movie, he leaves just as Arnold enters the station. He's not even there when it all goes down! This blunder epitomizes the whole mess that T3 is - they were too lazy to get it right, they were more interested in coming up with a gag than doing anything dramatically interesting.By the way, in the "flash forward" scenes at the beginning of the movie I thought the guy was the doctor from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. But it's really Nick Stahl.BTW, Nick Stahl does look like he could be the child of Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton. That's about the only detail of this move that looks like it had any thought given to it. The special effects look fine, but that only matters if they're used in service of a good story. But T3 has never been within two miles of a good story.Boring! See the first one again instead. I gave this one a 2 out of 10, and that was being generous.

Terminator 3: Excellent!

"Terminator 3" is a very well made movie with amazing action and awesome special effects. It had very big shoes to fill and in my opinion Mostow delivered a good (not great) film. Sure, it could have been much better but it also could have been much worse. The things i did not like are some errors in the movie. For example, in T2 John is 10 years old. But at the opening of T3, John says he was 13 during the events of T2. I cant imagine them making a mistake like this. This is a huge error. My biggest problem with it is the comedy. Sure, some used joked could be funny, but its not at the right place in a Terminator film. The movie should have been more dark and serious.7/10

A great addition to the Terminator series, but it's no T2

Just don't expect something to top Terminator 2 when you sit down and watch it. I can't say that enough. However, the movie is definitely exciting and very good...finally a good movie in the summer of 2003. Incredible action sequences (the car chase is better than the Matrix's) and a great story with some interesting characters. The TX terminator does a really good job (almost as good as Robert Patrick did in T2) and is also extremely hot. So, yeah, nothing wrong there.Go check it out, especially if you loved T2. This is definitely a movie to catch this summer no matter what, though.
