Out of this world!

posted on 29 Aug 2009

I was really looking forward to watching this movie. However, after reading all the reviews-mostly bad-I didn't have much hope for it. Thankfully it turned out to be a GREAT movie!!!

The Story
As you know it stars Eddie Murphy. He is the owner of a nightclub on the moon in the year 2087. Some goons try and buy his club and he doesn't want to sell. So-they try and kill him! Eddie has to find out who the bad guy is and stop him. He is accompanied by his robot body guard played by Randy Quaid who did a terrific job. If I hadn't known Randy was staring in the movie I wouldn't have been able to tell it was him! The ending is terrific-I never would have guessed that one!

The acting was good. The plot was good. The ending was good. The futuristic scenery and vehicles was good. It was an all around good movie! It was a little campy (but aren't all space movies) but a lot of fun just the same!

If you are considering this movie don't let the negative reviews disuade you from getting it. You WILL enjoy this movie!

The Movie is Kick!

Granted the film is not state of the art sci-fi, it does have many funny scenes with a good story line and yes, some cornball stuff. It pokes fun at the hard core space films using robots and updating robots. It is a fun film not a film for serious film critics or hitech sci-fi fans. The film is clean of language and sex that is all too common in today's films and, the film does not really need them.

If you are looking for a non-typical fun film to kick back and watch, Pluto Nash can be just good clean fun.

Another Man on the Moon?

Eddie Murphy plays a bar owner named Pluto Nash who is famous on the Moon. That sounds out-of-this-world! A couple of dirty businessmen want him perished because he has the hottest spot on the Moon! How insane is that? "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" is an insane movie that deals with intergalactic conspiracies and insane androids. Nobody should care about the story; it's a comedy that isn't funny. At least the special effects are noteworthy. Rosario Dawson is in it too, which is a plus. Randy Quaid is Bubba, the android who runs about 5 mph, maximum. John Cleese is an automated driver for a stolen car. Luis Guzman saved the popular Pluto Nash, but has a problem with robots. Jay Mohr plays a singer who wore a quilt and has two wives, one cloned. If you can stand the outrageousness, then you may like this movie. If you want to see a real hero on the Moon, then watch Clint Eastwood rescuing mortals on "Space Cowboys." Too bad this movie made a whopping twenty bucks at the theaters; it's decent enough to see.

A complete bomb

Eddie Muprhy is in so many films, and I know it's unpopular to like him, but I think he is extreemley talented. This is a bad film, but what surprised me is that it cost $100 million to make, but I guess it went over budget, so as a result there was little advertising. It made 2.2 million in it's opening weekend. Sometimes studios fell that since they spent that much money. Would you wrater release a film that cost 100 mil and got 2.2, or a film that cost anything under that and grossed anything higher than that. As a studio, wouldn't you want the film that would make the most money at the box office, regardless of what it cost to make. What if it cost 20,000 to make and would pull in 10 million wrather than the other way around? Its about what will be most successful at the box office. If they lived this one out, I would do a better cut, and advertise it. Ive seen 2 ads for this, and about 25 for Spy Kids 2. Spy Kids 2 is doing well, and cost less to make. But your options go down if it is a bad film. However, they could make an awesome trailer, and get the people to see it. Even though I didn't like it, it is marketable. Now, they rushed to get this out, and their potential blockbuster (financially) is a bomb. A big budget bomb. This joins the category with another big budget bomb, Harlem Nights, with Eddie Murphy. They HAD to make a good preview (thers some funny material), and play it a lot. It wouldn't be a bomb. Nobody would like it, but they'd get there money back. Maybe it will be successful on VHS and DVD.

A Hated Joyride!

'The Adventures Of Pluto Nash', I know this movie for being one of the biggest box office bombs. The long-ago released never gained popularity even it's DVD/video release, I know people who dislike this movie like anything.Honestly, 'Pluto Nash' is not as bad as people say it is, it's a okay one time watch. There's really nothing to write about this flick, it's a film where nothing stands out, it's just passable stuff. The bashing it received was way to gory to see. All I can say is watch this flick, keeping it's disastrous history behind.Eddie Murphy delivers a fine performance, so does Rosario Dawson. The actor who plays the robot Bruno is hilarious! Alec Baldwin is there in a miss-a-blink appearance. All said n done, 'The Adventures Of Pluto Nash' is an average watch. No Thumbs Up, No Thumbs Down Either!

Great Sci Fi Comedy

Im a big fan of movies like star wars, titan ae,and spaceballs, and i place this right next to those on my shelf.
"The Adventures of Pluto Nash" is about a nightclub owner(murphy)
who refuses to sell the club and gets his name put on a hitlist for it.Full of action and laughs

I was pleasantly surprised for ONE reason...

After hearing all of the negative buzz about this flick, I rented it myself because I just HAD to see how bad this was. And, while I admit that it's a definite bomb, I found myself enjoying it. Why is that? It's not 2001: A Space Travesty. That Leslie Nielsen vehicle is not only by far the worst sci-fi comedy ever conceived, but in the running for the most godawful movie ever created. If that movie were put into a time capsule for future generations to find, it would suggest a race of total jackasses. Pluto Nash, however, only suggests childish filmmakers, which is quite welcome after all of the heavy, serious fare we've seen lately. So to all of you knocking this movie because it's not funny, it's not interesting, or whatever, why not rent a copy of 2001: A Space Travesty? I guarantee you that Pluto Nash will feel like Gladiator after the unrelenting 90 minutes of hell that lie in wait for you. In this respect, I feel Pluto Nash has been unfairly criticized.

Not good, not bad, simply "there"

posted on 17 Jun 2009

I went in to watching this movie expecting to get cheese and crony-ness, but this movie failed to deliver even that. But that's not to say this was really bad, the movie failed even on that account. This movie is simply....there.To start, I actually liked the colorful sets and whimsical settings, I was thinking "oh maybe this'll be something like The Hitchhikers Guide" But unfortunately not. The main problem in this movie is: it doesn't know what it is. Everything in the movie stays in a wish-washy middle ground. There were jokes, but they weren't pushed to the point of being funny, making this a comedy. There were moments of action, but it wasn't pushed to the point of being cool, just the few moments of very generic gun fire. So this wasn't an action movie. And there was an attempt at a mystery story here, but it wasn't pushed to the point of really being interesting. It was incredibly underdeveloped and no suspense was built up as things were supposedly "revealed." So this wasn't a mystery. So then what was it? So while this isn't a "bad" movie, it's definitely not a "good" one either. Unfortunately the makers left the slider bar somewhere in the middle.

Some of the best...

A lot of reviewers on this site seem to dismiss "Pluto Nash" because it was a box office failure. I say: So what?! Did you invest money in this movie? Probably not. And yet, you as viewer, are treated to a -I admit- mediocre story, but with EXCELLENT special effects. I like to think of "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" as a feel-good science fiction. There is no 'deep' philosophical theme going on, but then again: this film never pretends to be like that. It's just a film with a happy ending. Yay!Here are some things I really enjoyed:- Low/no gravity battle. Did Star Trek ever do this? Once! Almost every SF film or series ever tries to evade low/no-grav battles. And yet, it looks so cool! The special effect department did a wonderful job making this look realistic.- Futuristic dancing. I love that! Every decade has it's own silly dances and it's so funny to look at this from an outsiders point of view. Just like watching 'jumpstyle'.- John Cleese was a realistic and believable CGI character. I don't need to reminds you how awful CGI characters can turn out (Jar Jar Binks!). Cleese was a floating projection of a head in a hovercar, but he was memorable and quotable.- The gun that goes 'WWWWHHHHhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiii' in an super high pitched tone when it locks on target.- An android with a personality. Star Trek needed many seasons to establish the character of Data, but "Pluto Nash" gives us at least one android with a genuine personality. Very nicely integrated into the story too. - The music was great. I am personally not really fan of R&B or rap, but I loved the way the music was put into the story:*The dancing and the 'fast-forward' R&B music were hilarious*Songs about the moon*The 'scratching' sounds during fight scenes worked out perfectly*The up-beat R&B style music was contrasted by some other types of music, like Tony Francis' show and his intro song (when he's wearing a kilt). Refreshingly divers. - Some have said it wasn't funny enough. I think these reviewers are not getting the subtle humor of this film. If you were hoping for Police Academy jokes, this might not be for you. The level of sarcasm is higher, e.g.," That's what I love about you. I ask you a simple question and four hours later I get a simple answer.") - The TWIST in the end. In retrospective it makes sense, but it really comes as a surprise on the first viewing.- CGI was great. The Lunar Highway scene, the deserted desert area of the moon with Earth in the background, the establishing shot of 'Little America', the hovercar chase... All very impressive. This film is getting a lower rating then it should get. There are enough movie references in this film for a film student to write a small paper about. There are worse films out there like "A Sound of Thunder" that get a higher rating than this film, even though they had a comparable budget yet messed up on the story AND the CGI.

Eddie Murphy at his best

Do not let the box office statistics or the poor reviews put you off: This movie is excellent modern comedy for the sharp witted.
Science Fiction aficianados will be kept amused with the futuristic gadgetry, and those who don't usually go for science fiction will be carried through by the humour. While the plot is undoubtedly superficial, this is because it is not the focal point of the film: The satricical humour and richness of the characters provides the entertainment.
The robot characters steal the show, lead by Randy Quaid, who plays Murphy's side-kick bodyguard robot, Bruno. Bruno's 'Your sister didn't seem to mind' quip is without a doubt the funniest moment of the movie, and sets the tone for the next hour-and-change.
This movie is excellent light-hearted entertainment and should not be missed.

Shoot me if you must, but I liked the movie.

Ok, let's face it, it's not an Academy Award winner, but Pluto Nash was a fun movie (catchy theme music too). I can't believe all the bashing this movie has taken, for a goofy fun movie...lighten up people and enjoy. Pluto Nash may not be Gone with the Wind, but it's also not Dude Where's my Car :-)

if your looking for a movie to laugh with this is not it

This is not a movie that is generally thought of as funny because of writing or acting but it is funny because oof how out there it is. you can not take it on face value but if you are looking for a funny off colar movie this is it.

What happened here Eddie?

I don't know what went wrong here but Eddie Murphy should never have made this movie. If you ask me it's the worst movie he ever made, infarct its one of the worst movies I've see in my life.So do your self a favour don't see this one..

Not a bad B movie

posted on 29 Mar 2009

I saw Pluto Nash for the first time on HBO and really enjoyed the move. It is a great B movie, cheesy plot and acting, but good action and great visual effects. It just didn't come together how I would have liked as Pluto was too much of a good guy to be a bad guy. But, there are certainly much worse movies that have been made like the Italian Job, but watching Pluto Nash, I never wanted to turn it off and watch a blank screen instead. Critics be damned, this is a good movie to watch on a rainy day. I wouldn't say to make a sequel, but the premise was solid, the lead actors good, the visuals excellent, but there is just a lack in general direction in the movie, but each scene is fun to watch. Give it a chance, don't expect a lot, and enjoy.

Soundtrack is the best thing here

posted on 23 Mar 2009

10 out of 10 - But only for the soundtrack!!!!!! That is..The soundtrack (by John Powell) is the only good thing about this movie. And guess what.....WB won't release the license for the release of the Score because it WAS such a FLOP!!!! That really is a SIN.Y the hell sacrifice an absolutely WICKED Score just because they think the film wasn't viewed by enough people (at the cinema maybe) but general viewing over the airwaves, cable and DVD....there must be more! I'm also sure that Mr.Powell wasn't too happy about the S.track not getting a release either.I want to see a RELEASE A.S.A.P.or even a bootleg...does not bother me!!

Campy sort of fun

posted on 21 Feb 2009

While there have been better movies, there have certainly been worse. This movie is a reasonably harmless way to kill a couple hours and, considering what has been on TV and cable lately, it might well be worth your while to rent this one. Besides, any time we get the chance to see the lovely Pam Grier (I still can't believe she's been around Hollywood for 30 years now!) it's worth the rental fee. Pywrit scale of 1-10, I give this one a 6.

a disaster of seismic proportions

First there was "Howard the Duck;" then came "Ishtar;" now we have "The Adventures of Pluto Nash," a film so misguided in its conception and so ham-handed in its execution that it can take its rightful place among the great cinematic blunders of all time.

At what point, do you reckon, in the course of making this film, did star Eddie Murphy, director Ron Underwood and the investors at Warner Brothers Studios realize what a monumental turkey they had on their hands? In this classic misfire, Murphy plays a former smuggler turned nightclub owner who is being chased by a bunch of henchmen trying to muscle in on his scene. And, oh yes, did I forget to mention that this all takes place on the moon circa 2087? I kid you not. Well, all I can say is that "Total Recall" this is not.

What all these people could have been thinking of when they sank their money, their time and, most important, their reputations into this hopeless enterprise is beyond mere mortal understanding. Suffice it to say that, with the exception of some outstanding art direction, set design and special effects, "Pluto Nash" is stillborn from the word go. The story is banal, the acting stilted, the humor nonexistent. Most shocking of all are the alleged "action" sequences, which look as if they were shot and staged by some precocious junior high school students working on a class project for extra credit. Murphy, Rosario Dawson, Pam Grier, Peter Boyle, John Cleese, and, above all, Randy Quaid - all fine actors under other circumstances - are made to look as ridiculous as possible, running around like mad trying to take all this seriously and pretend that they AREN'T stuck in one of the legendary bombs of all time. It's truly a painful and embarrassing sight to behold.

Then again, how many actors can say they've appeared in one of the classic movie boners of all time? There's immortality of sorts even in that, I guess.

NOT...BAD...AT...ALL!

(...) "...Pluto Nash" has lots of action, great special effects, an all star cast and it's got its funny moments, too. What more should people expect? Perhaps it's because they're expecting a gut-buster of a comedy like many of Eddie Murphy's other movies. If you are expecting this to be a knee-slapper, then you won't like it either. But why should all of Eddie Murphy's movies have to be gut-busters? Many reviewers disliked his movie "Showtime", I admit it wasn't a knee-slapper, but it was a pretty good movie. "...Pluto Nash" has lots of action, great special effects, an all star cast and it's got its funny moments. What more should people expect? My only complaint is that the curse words and sexual content in it blown it for me. Why does Eddie Murphy still think it's cool to curse? I believe cursing shows stupidity and I know he's not stupid. Anyhow, He doesn't curse all that much in it but it only hurts a movie that could have been so much more enjoyable. If you only collect Oscar Award winning movies then this movie should never grace your very thin collection of movies. If you just like to watch movies then this one is a must rental, at least. If you're a die hard DVD collector then "THE ADVENTURES OF PLUTO NASH" is a must have. In my opinion...it's a very neat and nicely done action-packed sci-fi and a honor to have in my DVD collection! Lower expectations

This is one of those movies that you read about here on the IMDB, and find that everyone pans. So you go to see it at the dollar theatre not expecting to be entertained, but just for the popcorn and pop and to smooch with your girlfriend. When you do that, you could be pleasantly surprised. This movie is fun, not fantastically funny, but entertaining. Kind of a cross between The Fifth Element and The Milagro Bean Field Wars. Visually, big screen presence reminiscent of Total Recall. Go in planning not to like it, and you will probably end up buying it on previously viewed DVD or video someday.
