TAGLINES PLOT SUMMARY

Martin Freeman plays Chris, a frustrated TV producer who is forced to leave his unreliable flatmate Bob played by Velibor Topic in charge of showing a series of real estate agents around the house he is trying to sell. Worried by Bob's habit of spending all day working in the basement playing loud music, Chris asks his friend to listen out for the door bell and show anyone who comes calling inside. Bob promises to do exactly that and for once, not to let him down. Over the course of the day, whilst Chris struggles to cope with his insane TV presenter colleague Jerry, played by Richard Harrington - back at the house it is soon clear that bonkers Bob is taking his promise to Chris rather too literally. Bob has indeed, allowed anyone inside, including a couple of gun-toting gangsters - an incompetent young Brit played by Danny Dyer and an incontinent American played by Corey Johnson. That evening, Chris is surprised to return home and find his flatmate, four estate agents, two Jehovah's Witnesses, a corpse and a terrified children's entertainer in what remains of his flooded kitchen. Of course, a roomful of water and broken furniture doesn't mean the end of the world - but the half-crazed American sitting outside the toilet with a gun, just might.

Terrific - don't believe the (bad) hype!

This little film has some terrific dialogue and is certainly (regardless of what some people would have you believe) very clever and funny. But its also quite scathing with swipes about some British TV and film and the cult of celebrity in particular.I remember watching it (with a medium sized but very enthusiastic audience who seemed to be loving it) and wondering why it got such rotten write ups. But after seeing it reviewed on a cable station by some irritating telly presenter who trashed it and I started to realise... One of the characters in the film is an irritating telly presenter who is totally obnoxious and an utter plonker. More than one character has lines ridiculing TV presenters - just as Martin Freeman's character lays into the British film industry. Ha! It's really not surprising then I suppose that every film snob and rubbish telly presenter hates this film.I would say its limitations are obvious however and if watching truly low-budget films ain't for you don't bother. As another rather irritating British TV presenter would no doubt say; it's as cheap as chips! But very stylishly directed and funny with it.

....oh dear oh dear.

It pains me to write such a scathing review but by not doing so I'm simply encouraging these people. First off, just because a film is made on a small budget does not automatically make it good nor endearing. In fact in this case, the small budget is probably the films sole achievement in that it prevented large sums of money from being squandered on a one legged race horse with the shits. Have you ever seen a comedy at the theatre? Ever heard people laugh and thought "what the dickens are you on"? Well even these twats weren't laughing. Things got so bad by mid way my cat took his first ever bath. This is not film, this is children....no monkeys making images that leave you feeling like moving to France. Got to go, there's a clown at my door.............

Quite possibly one of the worst movies I have seen...

I hate to be the one to rain on a parade (even a small one like this) but from the very first scene, you could tell this film was going to be absolute shite. Its a shame really, as I quite like Martin Freeman and Danny dyer. I was intrigued as to how they would mix in a film together, but to my dismay, they did not even have a scene together!! I think I need to repeat this - The two lead actors (who stand side by side on the advertisement posters and DVD covers) did not have one scene together!!!! They did not speak to each other and never appeared on screen at the same time. Just about sums up this poor excuse for a movie. False advertisement. The dialogue was painful, every single character in the movie was unrealistic, and un-human like. The scenarios were far fetched, the plot was crap, the jokes were thin, Freeman tried too hard to be funny (and played a poor mans Tim from The office), nobody was likable, and worst of all, some of the characters were so annoying that it almost drove me to switch off, as I couldn't bear to watch, or listen to them any longer. This low budget stinker was an epic fail. Even Danny Dyer couldn't inject some humour and charm into this, but bless, he tried. What a waste of time. How anybody could rate this movie as 'ten stars' is beyond me. Ten Stars? Seriously? Come on....I won't even give some of the greats ten stars, as ten stars implies that a movie was perfect. This film was far from perfect, almost the opposite, meaning that it was almost completely dire throughout.Watch it if you like, but if you've seen a lot of movies, and watched a lot of great movies, your review will probably similar to mine.1/10

Excellent, yet unusual comedy

Was a flip between this and 28 weeks later. Glad I made the decision to see this film. It felt rough along the edges, and there was a small period of time when I wondered if this was to be a chuckle once film. However, as the story built it simply got funnier. The storyline was so obscure and unusual that it felt fresh, and original, even if it was a bit low budget. With an array of strange characters, A low grade "gangster", a crazy screwed up TV presenter and even a clown, this films suited to those people that need a laugh, and don't expect a big budget Mel Gibson thriller. Think of this film as a low budget Shaun of the Dead.

Loved by all except the critics....

...that seems to be the fate of this very interesting and funny little film. I'never seen anything like it before which probably goes some way to explaining the vitriol spouted in several magazine crits I've read - I can only think they don't know what to make of it.I've seen it once and thought it was very clever and as i said funny (in my opinion) so why all the fury? I think just that - it's clever and quite acerbic and that's what most critics seem to want to aspire to. I think they just hate being shown something that says everything they wish they had had the wit to say first.Anyway - I'd say go along and see this. It's rare a comedy garners so much praise and loyalty on one side and so much hatred and venom on the other.

Why hasn't this film been everywhere?

I hadn't seen or heard anything about this film. I got roped along. But must say I thought it was funny. It just made me smile. A lot.Looked it up when I got home and it's only on in a few places!!?? But why? I suppose it might come across as being too smart/cynical which may account for some of the angry reviews I saw. But it is full of great lines and actually really warm and cheerful if you watch it all and take it in. I don't claim to be an expert but to me this was a good one. A really good one. It's not on at the cinema I saw it at anymore - after one week. So maybe I'm in the minority!

All Together Rubbish

Almost from the word go this film is poor and lacking conviction but then again most people would struggle to show commitment to a script as uninspiring as this. The dialogue really does not flow and sometimes as in this case more is less (or should have been). This is also backed-up by odd scenes (e.g. the Cemetry slow-motion walk) that you think might lead somewhere but only seem to waste a few more seconds of your life. The plot is a strange combination of gangster / situation comedy which I am sure seemed a good idea at the time but if ever there was a case for someone needing to be honest with the scriptwriter then here was it.Martin Freeman is okay but then he seems to have one character which always plays so I am beginning to wonder if he was given a script or just filmed and told to react as normal. Finally - humour. This reminds me of the 'Python (I think) quote about Shakespere, of his 'comedies' - If he had meant it to be humorous he would have put a joke in it. Well I didn't see one.Don't waste your time - I did because I was watching it with a friend and kept hoping that it was going to get better. It didn't.

not as good as i hoped

Oh dear. good cast, but to write and direct is an art and to write wit and direct wit is a bit of a task. Even doing good comedy you have to get the timing and moment right. Im not putting it all down there were parts where i laughed loud but that was at very few times. The main focus to me was on the fast free flowing dialogue, that made some people in the film annoying. It may sound great while reading the script in your head but getting that out and to the camera is a different task. And the hand held camera work does give energy to few parts of the film. Overall direction was good but the script was not all that to me, but I'm sure you was reading the script in your head it would sound good. Sorry.

Totally original and very funny...

...that's what this film is. And yes, made for peanuts which apparently makes it open season for some film critics to attack it. Remember all the fuss about movies like Clerks and El Mariachi? Good grief 'The All Together' is funnier than the former and better looking than the latter! I love Martin Freeman but he's about the fifth funniest character in this. It's packed with laughs and the dialogue is so memorable. So why isn't this movie getting the praise it deserves?Anything new and different (that isn't a miserable worthy drama) gets savaged by the film geeks in this country. Don't believe these sad little men (as they all seem to be male). I've seen this twice now and both times the audience were loving it and at the end it got applause!

Funny film, another good British film to add to my collection.

This was a very funny film, all the actors fit their roles very well, i even enjoyed the French guy, he made added a lot of funny scenes to the film.Although its nowhere near as good as Shaun of the dead or Human Traffic, it is a decent film and I'm glad other people have left good comments about it because otherwise i would not have watched this film because of the bad comments it receive but I'm glad i did get to see this film. Its quite a short film, 1hr 15mins but its well worth seeing. We need to support the British film industry so i will purchase this when its available on DVD.
